Lost MY home wifi, no one else's - what's going on?

My 3Gs has lost, and can't find, my home wifi network. I've had LOTS of hassles with the home network lately due to the Airport Express/Extreme firmware upgrades. Now the home network is mostyl OK but the phone is stuck on 3G. I can find neighbors' wifi networks but not the one at home. I'm sitting 3 feet from the Airport Express!
I've restarted and fully rebooted the phone.

I'll answer my own post in case others have this problem: in some cases the Airport Express 7.5.2 firmware upgrade requires you to change the network setting to 5GHz.
Apparently my iPhone 3GS does not pick up 5GHz wifi. I guessed that this might be the case and the wireless network back in "mixed" 2.5 GHz mode and presto, wifi reappeared on the phone.

  • When I try to burn music from my Playlist to a blank CD, the notification tells me that the list has too many minutes for the CD, even if I try to burn just one song. What's going on?

WHEN I TRY TO BURN MUSIC FROM MY PLAYLIST TO A BLANK CD, THE NOTIFICATION COMES UP AND TELLS ME I AM EXCEEDING THE NUMBER OF MINUTES THE CD WILL HOLD. THIS NOTIFICATION HAPPENS EVEN IF I TRY TO BURN JUST ONE SONG. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Katy, you are completely doing things in the wrong order.  You can't burn songs if you can't even play them, and iTunes can't play them if it can't find them.
The exclamation point normally occurs if the song file, or one of its containing folders, has been moved, renamed or deleted.  So if you encounter a track with an exclamation point, don't do anything else until you find the file.  It is usually somewhere else on your hard drive, or else in the Recycle bin.  Failing both of those, get it from your most recent backup.
After your restore it, make sure it can play.  If it can play you can put it into a playlist.  Then you can burn the playlist.

  • My ipod is really beggining to irritate me,wheni finally get apps sent to my ipod touch they are still saying "waiting..." and now the apps picture on all of them is blank and i still haven't dowloaded one app successfully. What's going on with my ipod?

My ipod is really beggining to irritate me,when i finally get apps sent to my ipod touch thay are still saying "waiting...."and now the apps picture on all of them is blank and i still HAVE YET TO DOWNLOAD ONE APP SUCCESSFULLY! What's going on with my ipod & how do i fix it?

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod yet?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If that doesn't work, are you still connected to a network?  Either way try connecting to a different one and downloading another FREE app to see if that helps.

  • IPad 1 running IOS 5.1.1 not working with home WIFI, but everywhere else

I have an iPad 1 supporting 3G and WIFI running IOS 5.1.1 and up to now it has worked great.  We recently had the cable modem in the house upgraded and the box included a better WIFI system than we had before.  After installation, all the laptops in the house worked great except my iPad.  One of the kickers is that when my wife came home with her iPad 1 running IOS 4, it worked great too.  And when I've gone to a hotspot, it also gets connected well.
The symptoms are that the WIFI menu will see my home network as an option.  When I select it, I get a spinner and the left side bar will indicate that it is using that network, but the spinner never completes.  The upper left will mostly stay as 3G and will occasionally go to a WIFI setting, but nothing will connect.  If I tap on the details, I usually don't get DHCP connection and get an IP address.  Once in a great while, I can connect up and have access, but it is incredibly slow and usually fades off in a minute.
I have tried turning off the iPad, resetting network settings, telling it to forget the network and try again and reset the iPad.  I have removed all security from the router, reduced down the encryption to WEP like the old wireless router and still nothing.  Of course the Cable company says it is the iPad problem and I tend to agree.
My next step is to erase and start over, which I do not wish to do if I don't have to.
    Any ideas?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • IPhone can't connect to internet on my home WiFi, works everywhere else

For a while I would get the "unable to join network" error, but renewing the lease or resetting the router would usually fix it. Now I can sign onto the WiFi, but I get page load errors and timing out on everything until I turn WiFi off on the phone. I have tried resetting network settings, manually inputing my phones Mac address into the router, changing the security mode on the router, resetting the WiFi settings on the router, still, no internet for iPhone.
Other Android phones, an iPad, Apple TV, Laptops and Desktops have all been able to access the internet through WiFi as well. My iPhone has no trouble using the internet on other WiFi networks. Have I somehow black listed myself in my router settings? Or have I somehow blocked the internet in the phone settings for just this network?

I looked into that and couldnt' figure out how. I've just now completely disabled "managed devices" and "managed services" under parental controls and that seems to have made it work. My room mate was having trouble with his laptop as well. I'm the only person who ever logged into the router's admin panel and I never added any devices to any parental control that I know of. I just looked at the log and noticed it had some blocked packets, the IP matched the one assigned to my phone, so somehow I got parental blocked :-/

  • I'm SUDDENLY having issues connecting to my home router, any one else

I was connecting fine until today. Had some intermittent issues connecting before, but not it just remains not connected. Have reset network, toogled wifi switch etc., Nothings working...o' yeah, restored it too.

Did you try rebooting the router?
Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • I can't connect to my wifi, but other people are able to although I am able to connect to other peoples wifi in their homes.  Any suggestions as to what is going on.

I enter my wifi Password and my iPad gives me the message that it cannot connect to the wifi.  I know the password is correct and other people do access it.
I have been able to access other peoples wifi with no problem.  Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

If you have more than one device in your house, you may find that this kind of thing happens from time to time, and it happens when your router gives to another device the address previously used to route Internet traffic to your computer, meanwhile your computer still thinks it's using that same, old address.  The technical term for this problem is “IP address collision.”
In the short term, the fix is to power off (not sleep) all the devices in your home that connect to the Internet, along with your router and modem.  Leave everything off for at least a full minute, then power on your devices in the following order (and make sure each one is fully on and working properly before powering on the next item): modem, router, any devices that maintain a permanent connection to the Internet, devices that only sometimes connect to the Internet (such as laptop computers or cell phones).  This process will clear out the routing tables and make all devices connect from scratch.
In the long term, you'll want to make sure each device that only sometimes uses your internet connection uses an assigned IP address when at home.  For Macs, you can use the location feature of the Networking pane in System Preferences to make this happen.  For other devices, you'll want to consult the user manual, or (probably) Google, Wikipedia, or YouTube.

  • Finder Window is messed up for only one folder. What is going on here?

One of my folder, at the top where it says "Name, Date Modified, Size, Kind", etc. is messed up. Even when I reboot the computer to a different hard drive with 10.8 on it, this particular folder shows this problem.
Above is the problem window on the left and another window on the right that is correct. I tried restarting the Finder but since this is happening on ONLY this folder (that I know of so far) wether booting off of one 10.8 drive or another, I don't know whats up. Clicking on Name or Date Modified or whatever does not sort the list like it should. Changing view options from list to colums and back does not fix it. Any thoughts?

Nevermind. Somebody on the MacRumors forums figured it out. Apparently that folder was set to "Arrange by" something. All I had to do was go to View>Show View Options and set "Arrange by" to None.

  • After upgrading iPhoto for Yosemite I have lost virtually all my photos in iPhoto.  What's going on??

Help!  I recently upgraded to Yosemite OS on my iMac desktop.  I then needed to upgrade iPhoto which I did yesterday.  Now, when I open my iPhoto icon there are only about 100 photos left of probably about 1,000.  I should mention that all the photos WERE there at first but then I moved my iPhoto Library to the dock and when I opened it, most were gone.  Does anyone know how I can get my photos back???  Please help.

    Ok
It is best not to move your iPhoto library around and there is no need to have it  available from the dock - leave the iphoto libraries in your uses folder - to sitc between libraries hold dow the option key while lunching iphoto - use the resuling select library window to select the library you want - it will remain your default library until you switch again

  • My ipod touch says that i am connected to my home wifi connection but i can't use the internet. what should i do?

i have an ipod touch and i have gone into my settings and connected to my home wifi. but the little bars that are supposed to come up in the top left hand corner do not appear and i cannot connect to the internet. is it my ipod? or should i look at my home wifi?

One way to isolate the problem would be to try your iPod on some other networks (Starbucks, Borders, Library, Apple store, etc.) If it does not work in those places you likely have a problem with your iPod otherwise it's likely a problem with your network.
Please provide some details on your router make/model, security type being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), any MAC address filtering configured and whether you are using static IPs or DHCP.

  • After 10.7.4 update can no longer see home wifi signal

Ever since I updates my MacBook air my home wifi ( the one I used for the update) no longer shows up on my computer. It shows up on my mac mini and iPad and my MacBook air can connect to other networks. Any ideas?

No NAS other than an Apple one includes native support for AFP. They all use an open source package called Netatalk that is junk. Many years ago Apple deprecated the old security modules that Netatalk uses.
The easiest solution is to hack up Lion so that it will connect with the old security protocol. Do a search for "lion dhx2" or something like that. Another option is to update your NAS to a version of Netatalk that includes support for DHX2. That is easier said than done. Netatlk isn't as "open" as other open source packages.

  • My iPhone 3G won't display or connect to my home wifi network

    Hello!
I have an old iPhone 3G that my dad gave me a long time ago. It had some problems, but I figured that's just 'cause it's old. But now I really don't know. One of its biggest (and only) problems is that it refuses to connect to my home wifi network. In fact, when I go to Settings > WiFi, it won't even display my network (it did once, but failed to actually connect), or any network, actually. I found once that in Settings > General > About > Network (Not Available), it tells me "SIM not provisioned". I've heard that you don't need a SIM card at all to use wifi on an iPhone, so what's going on here (in case I didn't make it clear, I do have a SIM card in the phone, and this problem occurs whether it's in or not)? Do I need to activate my SIM card (and if so will it cost me anything)? Or is my iPhone just whack?
If I wasn't clear in my question, please ask for clarification in the comments.
    Thanks!

We now have two older phones that will not recognize one of our networks.

  • IPod touch 5th gen. and iPhone 4 will not connect to home Wifi.  No issues anywhere else, just at home.  iPhone 6 had the same problem, but was able to correct with network reset.  Tried absolutley everything the boards say and nothing works.  Help.

Brand new iPod 5 and periodically will pick up our home Wifi, but when it loses it, it's impossible to reset.  Says "incorrect password" and it is the correct password.  No issue at all with Android devices or anything else on Wifi.  Only the iPod and an iPhone 4.  My iPhone 6 had the same issue, but I was able to correct it by resetting the network.  This "fix" doesn't work on the iPod or old iPhone.  Just keeps saying "incorrect password" no matter what you do.  Connection has been reset, passwords have been changed... Nothing fixes it.  And both are operating on the latest iOS update.  I just updated it.  Still doesn't work.  How crazy.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network. Yes
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before? no
Try the following to rule out a software problem:  (Not clear what you did)
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Since it connects to other networks that indicates a problem with your network

My MacBook Pro will not connect to my home wifi but will connect everywhere else. My other Apple devices (I-pad, I-touch, another MacBook Pro) connect to the router without problems. It was working fine but all of a sudden stopped working. Thanks!

    try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.
