Lost my Ipad 2 on flight need serial no

I lost my Ipad 2 on flight, they are asking me to provide the serial no and i do not have one.
i cloud was not set up on this ipad, Called customer service of apple they kept on transferring me to some dumb TOM, DICK & HARRY who do not know how to help me kept on hold for 4 hrs with this.
Is there any way to get the serial no ...?

If you have registered your device, you can go to https://supportprofile.apple.com/ and log into your apple id. Your devices appear there with serial numbers.
Additionally, your serial number is included on the original receipt when purchased at any Apple Online or Apple Retail store, or any Authorized Apple Reseller.

If you had installed iOS 7 it would be Activation locked, but I see you only have iOS 5. You do have a backup of you iPad files on your computer or iCloud, don't you?
If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Please help! I "lost" my iPad at a local store. The GPS on my phone shows the iPad is still in the store (over 24 hours.) I've searched every square inch of the store and cannot find it. I fear it may have been "stashed" by an employee. The police need a serial number for a report. How do I get that? Will I still be able to locate it via GPS after the battery dies?

Did you register it with Apple? If not, you would have had to write it down. Once the device goes out of wifi or if the thief turns wifi off...its gone. All they have to do is restore it as new, you wont be able to detect it again. Sounds bleak I know but its hard to get it back once its gone...no matter what Apple says.

IF you have not done so already, you need to sign up for ICloud at www.icloud.com. Sign in with your Apple account. From there you can locate your iPad if it is turned on. iCloud allows you wipe your iPad clean if necessary. Oh and don't put you iPad serial number out there. Someone may be able to hack into your account.

I recently lost my ipad and need to change my apple ID. When I go to the ID page it gives me the option of changing any of my details except my ID which does not have an edit button next to it. How can I change the ID itself and would I lose access to my existing apps if I did change it? I have spent hours signing out of every feature on both my mac and iphone but how can i do this from my now lost ipad and would it make any difference if i could? I am very confused and frustrated with all the apple jargon on the help pages and support communities. Please can somebody help by talking english to me??

Why do you want to change the ID? If it's because you've lost your iPad just change the password so that the person now in posession of it can't get into your iCloud account.
If you really want to change the address which forms the ID you can do this at http://appleid.apple.com provided that it isn't an @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address - if it's one of those that would explain why you don't have an 'edit' button and you can't change it.
It you were able to change the ID that won't affect your access to apps since the account itself remains the same, though of course the login has to be changed on every device signed into iCloud or iTunes.
If you are going to change either the ID or the password you must turn of 'Find My iPhone' on any device it is enabled on or you will find yourself in difficulties.

The only tracking feature Apple offers is the one tied to your iCloud account (https://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my-iphone.html). If you did not have an iCloud account set up on the iPad, or did not have the "find my iPad" setting enabled under that account's settings, then you cannot track it remotely.
There is nothing you can do but hope the police do something, or you find it yourself. Apple does not get involved with lost or stolen property.

However, I hope you IMMEDIATELY changed your AppleID password when you noticed the added email - the only way someone could do that is if they know both your AppleID primary email address AND your current password.

No, unless you had Find My iPad enabled on it then there isn't any way to try and locate it.
Have you reported it to the police in case somebody hands it in ? You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc., and if it was a cellular model also contact your carrier.

I have the locator app, but since it is not a 3g and the wireless wasn't connected at the time, there is no way for me to locate it right? I also have it password protected, so even if someone wants to return it, they cannot access any of the info inside?? (Wish i would have just put my contact info somewhere on the case)

You do not 3G to locate the iPad. The iPad must be turned on with WiFi on and you must have turned on Location Services in the settings as well or you cannot locate it. If you use a passcode - no one can unlock the device - unless they know the passcode as well.
My advice would be to call the airport and the hospital and see if the device turned up.

If it's a 3G device you should also inform the cellular service provider that the device is missing/stolen. I can feel your pain in this matter, I've never left a device on a plane, but know that once you disembark from the flight, getting anything back that was left onboard is pretty much a lost cause.
