Lost my Ipad on SW flight or Oschner Hospital in New Orleans

I lost my Ipad on a SouthWest Flight to New orleans OR at the Oscnher hospital in New Orleans on 12/5/11. I have the locator app, but since it is not a 3g and the wireless wasn't connected at the time, there is no way for me to locate it right? I also have it password protected, so even if someone wants to return it, they cannot access any of the info inside?? (Wish i would have just put my contact info somewhere on the case)

You do not 3G to locate the iPad. The iPad must be turned on with WiFi on and you must have turned on Location Services in the settings as well or you cannot locate it. If you use a passcode - no one can unlock the device - unless they know the passcode as well.
My advice would be to call the airport and the hospital and see if the device turned up.

IF you had activated find my ipad on the device BEFORE it was lost AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi, THEN you may be able to find the registered address of the wi-fi router to which it is connected.

If it's a 3G device you should also inform the cellular service provider that the device is missing/stolen. I can feel your pain in this matter, I've never left a device on a plane, but know that once you disembark from the flight, getting anything back that was left onboard is pretty much a lost cause.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. If you had installed iOS 7 it would be Activation locked, but I see you only have iOS 5. You do have a backup of you iPad files on your computer or iCloud, don't you?
If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Please help before I hit my new mac with a sledge hammer!!
I recently lost my ipad and need to change my apple ID. When I go to the ID page it gives me the option of changing any of my details except my ID which does not have an edit button next to it. How can I change the ID itself and would I lose access to my existing apps if I did change it? I have spent hours signing out of every feature on both my mac and iphone but how can i do this from my now lost ipad and would it make any difference if i could? I am very confused and frustrated with all the apple jargon on the help pages and support communities. Please can somebody help by talking english to me??

Why do you want to change the ID? If it's because you've lost your iPad just change the password so that the person now in posession of it can't get into your iCloud account.
If you really want to change the address which forms the ID you can do this at http://appleid.apple.com provided that it isn't an @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address - if it's one of those that would explain why you don't have an 'edit' button and you can't change it.
It you were able to change the ID that won't affect your access to apps since the account itself remains the same, though of course the login has to be changed on every device signed into iCloud or iTunes.
If you are going to change either the ID or the password you must turn of 'Find My iPhone' on any device it is enabled on or you will find yourself in difficulties.

you did activate find my iPhone but because you removed it from the devices list, you cant do anything further. You need the device to add it back to the list.

If you have registered your device, you can go to https://supportprofile.apple.com/ and log into your apple id. Your devices appear there with serial numbers.
Additionally, your serial number is included on the original receipt when purchased at any Apple Online or Apple Retail store, or any Authorized Apple Reseller.

The only tracking feature Apple offers is the one tied to your iCloud account (https://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my-iphone.html). If you did not have an iCloud account set up on the iPad, or did not have the "find my iPad" setting enabled under that account's settings, then you cannot track it remotely.
There is nothing you can do but hope the police do something, or you find it yourself. Apple does not get involved with lost or stolen property.

However, I hope you IMMEDIATELY changed your AppleID password when you noticed the added email - the only way someone could do that is if they know both your AppleID primary email address AND your current password.

No, unless you had Find My iPad enabled on it then there isn't any way to try and locate it.
Have you reported it to the police in case somebody hands it in ? You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc., and if it was a cellular model also contact your carrier.

The only way to "locate" the iPad is if you had previously turned on Find my iPad, in which case you could track it in iCloud - as long as the iPad is connected to a network and the thief hasn't wiped out the iPad and restored it to factory settings.
If you haven't activated Find, then all you can do is report it to the police and your insurance company.
