Lost My Links... Yikes!

Reconfigured a folder or two.  New enough at this that I forgot my paths would be affected.  I know there is a contingency built into Dreamweaver for that sort of thing but... can't find it in my books.   Where does a guy go to relink all the local files that I've moved to another folder?  Thanks.
Tim

If you did your "folder recofiguration" outside of Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver was not paying attention to the changes you made.
Best bet next time is to do your file management right in the Files Panel.
But for this time, I think you need to check your links manually, page by page. To make it easier, do a search on source code sitewide for "<a href" (or even just "<a") and do Find All.
When you double-click on each listing in the Results window, the appropriate page will open, with the <a href (or <a) highlighted in the code. Then you can check the link (or relink it) for each entry.
Refresh the search list periodically, if you want to check on your progress through the site.
If you are checking for image links, of course, use as search object "<img" and follow the same procedure as above.

  • Lost Photoshop link

A couple of days ago I upgraded from CS4 to CS5, and all was well.  Yesterday, I uninstalled CS4 and lost the link between LR3 and CS5.  When attempting Photo>Edit In, Photoshop and all Photoshop related options are grayed out.  It worked fine when CS4 was there, but as soon as I uninstalled it, it was gone.  All of my plugins are there, but no Photoshop.  Any idea how to get it back?  Please, keep in mind that I am not a computer nerd.....I'm a photography nerd.  Thanks in advance.

Easiest is to uninstall/reinstall CS5 (see also this Adobe KB article).

  • Lost iPhoto link once I downgraded to Mavericks

I hated Yosemite, so I downgraded back to Mavericks. In doing so I lost the link to my iPhoto library and can't seem to recover it. It shows greyed out library. When trying to select "which iPhoto library to use" the directory either shows greyed out or if it does show with open button, nothing happens at all once I choose to open. I have tried hitting command/option on opening, but it simply says choose iPhoto library and does not show option to rebuild as the Apple support suggested. Any help to rebuild this would much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Steve Miller

    It didn't. It doesn't.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Lost Network Link

    Hello -
I have a PowerMacG5 (Dual 2GhZ) running OS X Server10.4.6 . It is my department web and file server. Over the weekend it lost network connectivity for a little over a minute. Maybe a power failure and than a reboot?!
Or after an updat of the system software and if you've edit the hostconfig file and changed the HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC_ to HOSTNAME=FQDN? Than the automatic lookup doesn't work as it should.

  • I have lost the link to the backlight on my keyboard of my macbook

I have lost the backlight of my keyboard and when I go to the 'keyboard' in System Preferences, there is no link. Is it possible to lose this information by using a 'disk sweeper'?

Very straightforward. 10.6 by default does what's called an archive and install, it will only replace your system, you won't lose any files. Just to be safe though you should ALWAYS make a current backup before making any changes in the event that something does go wrong.
Insert your 10.6 disc and restart while holding the C key, should be pretty painless. Remember to run software update when the install is done to get up to date.

  • Changed HDD in NAS Drive, lost all links

    Hello world,
I keep all photos in separate directory structure (16.000 photos in 140 directories), and have the mediathek on the local drive.
Now I have changed the HDDs in my NAS drive (dLink DNS 323, connection via smb), and restored all folders from a backup. In the finder I can see all photos (randomly tested).
Although the share-name and the user-ID are set up the same as before, Aperture lost the connection to all photos.
I am not going to believe that I have to refresh the links to every single photo...
    Any idea anyone?
    Greetings from Germany

    Hello,
usually using "Reconnect All" should suffice to reconnect all files, if you restored your library from a backup.
But I am not quite sure, how you restored your library - do I understand this correctly:
Your Aperture Library (Mediathek in german) is on the system drive?
Your referenced master image files / original image files are on a NAS drive?
You had to replace the drives in the NAS and restored from backup?
Then your estored files are no longer identical to the files Aperture is referencing, and you will have to reconnect.
In the long term the NAS setup might be risky; Apple recommends to keep the Aperture library on a local volume, MacOS X extended formatted - your NAS is neither local nor MacOS X extended, see this Support Article:
Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library:
          http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252
    To reconnect your images quickly:
Make sure your NAS is properly mounted.
Create a smart album containing all referenced images:
File > New > Smart Album
Add rule: File status is referenced  (or offline, or missing)
Select all images in the smart album.
From Aperture's  main menu bar select:   File > Locate referenced files
in the "Referenced Files" panel you see two panes:
In the upper pane select the first image with a missing original (master) image file.
In the lower pane point the File chooser to the location of the master on your NAS.
Now the "Reconnect" buttons should appear. Press "Reconnect All". If you are lucky, this will reconnect all missing original files at once.

  • After a system recovery, I have lost my "links" on the desktop taskbar, can't find it to replace.

When I originally started using firefox, I found an "add on?" that put "links on my desktop taskbar so I could go directly to that link instead of having to open firefox and then typing it in. I just had to do a full system restore on my computer, and now I'm back up and can't find the add on or extension, or whatever it's called to put it back on my taskbar. HELP PLEASE!

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to restore your iTunes Library from the external hard drive or backups, you can always contact Apple. I had recently lost my entire iTunes library when the hard drive it was located on crashed. After contacting Apple, they "reauthorized" all my purchased tracks and made them available from the iTunes store.

  • How to Identify titles that have lost the link to the music file/folder..

Is there a way of listing all the Music titles that no longer have a valid link to the source file and deleting them. I am afraid in my previous inexperience i inadvertently messed things up while trying to organise... ehum... Anyway, trying to organise again hopefully with more success now. Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

    TT2's +*lost & found+* will work.
another option might be this app:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

  • I cannot open a new tab by clicking on the X. Why was this function disabled when firefox updated. And I lost my links on my toolbar.

Firefiox updated and I've lost my AOL links and cannot open tabs by clicking on the X.

Note that the X is a close button and that the new tab button is styled as a plus (+) sign.
You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar New Tab button.<br />
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.<br />
You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

  • PSE 11 thumbnails lost file links

Using PSE11 in Windows 7, when opening the catalogue (which has some 14 000 photos) only a handful of the thumbnails at the front-end of the catalogue are linked to their files.  The remainder are unlinked.  After relinking them, the links are lost again when I next open PSE, necessitating relinking again.  Has anyone a solution to offer please?   Darrell

    Hello Michel
Thank you for your prompt reply offering help.
    I can confirm the following:
    ·         All of my photos are stored on an external hard drive connected to drive H on my laptop.
    ·         I connected the external drive to the correct drive on my laptop – H; confirmed by Windows Explorer
    ·         I opened PSE Organiser which was populated with the thumbnails – some 14 000
    ·         I list the thumbnails ranked newest first
    ·         The first approx. 460 showed the photos; the remainder were blank
    ·         I have randomly checked the properties of numerous thumbnails individually, both those displaying the photos and those which do not – they all show the correct drive letter – H
    ·         In some cases the thumbnail displayed the missing file ? in the top left-hand corner
    ·         In others it did not, but after attempting to open the thumbnail and then close it again, the ? is displayed
    ·         In any event the photo was not displayed in each case
On past occasions when working with this problem (it has never been resolved – I have left it alone for a while) I have taken the following action:
    ·         Optimised the catalogue
    ·         Optimised the thumbnail cache
    ·         Repaired the catalogue
    ·         Re-indexed visual similarity data and repaired it also
No errors were reported in these actions.
I have downloaded your psedbtool but have not run it because you indicate in your notes thereto that it did not work on PSE 9, and as you know I have v11 installed.  I am not sure about attempting running the tool??
Do you perhaps have any other suggested actions for me to pursue please?
    Cheers
    Darrell

  • I have 60 000 songs on a hard drive. The songs are referenced to the media file and not stored in the media file. I have moved the songs to another external drive. The itunes library has lost the link to the media files. How can I restore the links?

I have all my songs (60 000) on a remote drive. The drive is wireless networked. I installed a new router and had to map the drive again. Once this was done itunes could no longer locate the music. My music is not sitting in my media file but is rather referenced to the location of the music. Now that the location has changed due to the remapped drive how can I link the itunes library to the songs (media)again.
I have read many help comments and forums but so far nothing specific about relinking once the songs have already been moved and are referenced songs.
A step by step procedure would be helpful.
    Thank you
    Graham

I've uploaded a newer version that might catch that error. For some background on the script look at this thread.
iTunes remembers the location of each file in the database. If you right-click on a missing file, click Get Info, cancel when it asks you to try to find it, then look on the summary tab it will show you the last known location in the form file://localhost/<some path>. If you put the files back where they are expected to be, close iTunes and reopen, then iTunes will find them again. If not my script can attempt the task. When the script asks for a media folder you should respond with Z:\ since that seems to be where the artist folders are located.

  • Mouse pointer hand lost on links

There are a number of references to this problem (mouse pointer over a link momentarily turns to a hand before becoming the arrow again) all seem to be answered when the problem goes away. I have this problem and I know that if I close Safari and reopen it the problem clears.
    For a few days...
For me the problem hasn't been resolved as I'd like to know why its happening in the first place and fix it properly rather than a short term solution.

    Hi Redsmartie!
I get this occasionally and though it works yes it's a little weird to have the arrow showing instead of the hand. I don't get it very often so it's no big deal for me. If you get it often I'm not sure what can make it go away really? Possibly a re-install of Safari is your best bet? Or you could try some basic clean up (repair permissions, disk, reset Safari, replace plist) but can't say if that will help much?

  • PDFs from podcasts have lost their link to actual file-

Is there a quick way to restore all links to the files instead of one at a time? I'm getting the " ! " next to the name in iTunes.
    Thank you.

    No, I'm afraid.
What you can try is Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no faces, places, slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.*
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
*Current Beta of iPhoto Library Manager may get the Faces and Places information. Check at the iPhoto Library Manager site.
