  • I want to create a playlist on an old iPod Nano (I think it's from the second generation), but the computer it was originally linked to via iTunes died years ago.  How can I make a playlist out of existing songs on the iPod?

    Hello there,
I have an old iPod nano which I think is from the second generation (model number A1199 if that helps) with software at the latest version it can accept, 1.1.3.  I wish to make a playlist out of the songs currently on the iPod, but I can't see any easy way to do that from the iPod itself.  The next logical thought is to do it through iTunes, but the iTunes that was originally synced to the iPod died several years ago now, so I can't access that to make a playlist through (it's a very old iPod).  I do have iTunes currently on this computer, but that's synced with my iPhone and stores different songs which I don't want to be mixed with those from the old iPod (due to the mostly nostalgic nature of the iPod songs).  Is there any way I can either create a new playlist from the iPod itself, or through iTunes without having to sync?  Also note that most of the songs on the old iPod were uploaded to iTunes from CDs and so aren't connected with any iTunes Login.
Thanks for any help you can give.  Also, I sorta need to create this playlist ASAP so any advice you could give would be much appreciated

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

  • Itunes wont show my devices except my 6 year old ipod nano?

Iv tried reinstalling itunes, checking my drivers were up to date, buying a new usb cabel "from an apple store" and YES iv made sure my iphone/ipad is unlocked and hit trust this computer. i have an iphone 4s, iphone 4 and i also just bought an ipad air yesterday and that wont even show up in itunes!
after trying everything i could think of i found my old ipod nano and for some reason that shows up!
    im running windows 8.1
    i have the latest itunes
my laptop is an alienware 14.
can someone help me or do i just have to wait for the next itunes update to see if that works.

If it's an old enough nano, then it won't be using Apple Mobile Device Support to connect to iTunes. So, that suggests the problem may be with your Apple Mobile Device Support.
So let's try swapping your AMDS out.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
If the uninstall/reinstall goes through okay, do you now get recognition with your other devices?

  • I had an old iPod nano with my files saved on it and was stolen. I cannot find my old account. I bought an iTouch and made the new account that was needed for it to function. I was wondering how i could find my old account and get all the content back.

I had an old iPod nano with my content saved on it and was stolen. As well, I can't find and access my old account that I had with it. I bought an iPod touch and made a new account so that I could use the iTouch. Anyone know how to find the old account and how to transfer data from the old one to the new account?

  • HT1363 My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.

My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  Windows has all the most recent updates too.  I can reset the iPod, but the message to Use iTunes to restore comes back and I am stuck.

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
    Please help

  • Old ipod nano - when i connect it to my imac - error message

I have an old iPod Nano - when i connect it to my iMac, I get an error message that says I can't have more than 5 computers authorized with my account - My account only shows 4, but that's really beside the point since this iMac is already authorized and I sync other devices from it.  Any suggestions? It won't let me add any new content to this iPod.

  • How to sync old ipod nano to current itunes for ipod touch?

I have an ipod touch and upgraded itunes and registered new ipod. I have an old ipod nano that was previously registered to my itunes account. I'd like to add my playlists to this ipod as well. I'm afraid I will wipe out my library as I have in the past. How can I do this?

Sync it normally, following the instructions in this article if necessary.

  • I am about to upgrade my ipod. i want to give my old ipod nano to a friend. what do i need to do so they can use it on their computer?

i am about to upgrade my ipod and want to give my old ipod nano to a friend. what do i need to do so thay can use it on their computer and create their own itunes account?

Connect it to iTunes, select the Nano in the "devices" column and click "Restore". The warning window you get will ask you if this is what you really want to do.
Your very lucky friend will essentially have it in the same condition as if she bought it new.
One more thing: if you registered it in My Support Profile, make sure to un-register it. Only you can do that. Have your friend register it under her own Apple ID.

The buttons to my old iPod nano 1st or 2nd gen (I don't remember) do not respond/work. Can this be fixed??

The Sad face icon is usually a very good indication of a hardware malfunction or failure usually with the iPod's Hard Drive, which would also explain the loud clicking noise you are hearing.
I assume you have seen this article yet?

  • Is it ok if I use an old iPod Nano 4th generation charger with my iPhone 4S?

Is it?? Its from the old iPod Nano 4th Generation. Thank you for your help.
P.S.- I use the Apple Wall Charger I got with my iPhone.

it's the same AC to DC current since its traveling over USB 2.0 should be fine.
