Iphone songs and playlists not syncing to itunes library

I have bought songs on on my iphone. However, when I sync the phone to my computer, these songs are not transferred to my itunes library. I have worked out that I can right click to force it to transfer purchases. Is there some setting I can change to ensure that it does this automatically?
My playlists are also not syncing (even though the boxes are checked). I have altered them on my iphone but all of these changes are lost as soon as I sync it to the computer. How do I stop this?

I thought I was doing something wrong as syncing iTunes with an iPhone was never a problem. However after upgrading to iTunes 11.0 on one of 5 Apple computers, we now are experincing the same problems as reported above. Playlists in iTunes 11.0 on an Apple iMac running OS 10.7.5 are not syncing over to an iPhone 4 running iOS 6.0.1.Even though specific playlist that have been checked to be transferred, they are not migrating over to the iPhone. We have not tried syncing to any of the iPods yet but I think the same issue may occur.
As to the work-around described above to create playlists on the iPhone, it is a viable option. But if you do this I would make sure to deselect music syncing because you may wipe your playlist on the phone until a patch is created to fix this issue as well as other reported bugs. (iTunes 11.0.1)

Iphone 4s and 5 not syncing with Itunes

Please someone help me. I am having the same issue with my iphone 5 and my daughters iphone 4s. We are using Windows on Asus newer laptop. We are on the most up to date versions of Windows and itunes. When you plug into computer and it connects to itunes, it says that the phone needs to be restored. When you try and restore it, it gives you an error. I then take it to anyone who has a mac to restore it, bring it back to our computers and try again. This time, it will recognize it but when you try and sync the music, it will go through steps 1-4 and then the bar with the music will instantly go back to no audio on it. I have tried the process several times and it does the same thing. When I take it to the apple store, they say it has to be an issue with my pc because it restores fine on their mac. Help!

If the issue remains, try these steps:
Disconnect the device and quit iTunes.
In the Finder, locate iTunes in the Applications folder and drag it to the Trash. (This will not remove any of your iTunes media or your iTunes library.)
Choose Go > Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/Extensions
Click Go.
Locate the file "AppleMobileDevice.kext" and drag it to the Trash.
Restart the Mac.
In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
Click Go.
Locate the folder "MobileDevice.framework" and drag it to the Trash.
In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
Click Go.
Locate the file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" and drag it to the trash. (Do not move the similarly named "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist" file to the Trash.)
Restart the Mac.
Download iTunes and reinstall it. Test to see if the issue persists. Then, restart your Mac a final time to confirm issue is still resolved.

If you have to restore, yes everything will be erased from your iPhone. If you have a backup, you can put that backup after the restore.

Just an update it is a hardware issue and very common for iPhone 4s. I have to get my phone rewired which basically means new wireless chip. The amount of money I spent on buying an iPhone I should not expect to have anyway hardware problems happening. Make sure you have a warranty as luckily I've saved myself from spending more money to get this problem fixed.

My iPad has been stolen. Someone broke into my house on Tuesday. I have already tried locking it through icloud. I have reported this to the authorities but they cannot do much unless I give them the serial number to the iPad. With the serial number they can put it into a database and send that inormation to pawn shops, so i the theie tries to pawn it, the pawn shop employeee can convscate the iPad and hand it over to the authorites. I have the same problem. ITunes boots up just fine, I can access all my stuff, but when I click on the ITunes store, all my computer says it that iTunes has stopped working- and that Windows will notify me if a solution is available. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and also run computer diagnostics and compatibility tests between my computer and iTunes. It give me no error code at all.
I've tried to get into the store through menu options as well- like trying to access my account- but anything that has to do with accessing the store shuts the whole program down.
