Lost my PDF Presets in CS6

I lost my PDF Presets (CS6) so when I try to save to a PDF format, the std presets are not there.  How do I reload them?  I previously created a custom preset when building a book for Create Space and that is the only preset there - & I have not used this since.  (Just background info).

Hi. Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.

  • Load, edit or delete PDF presets in CS6 InDesign not possible.

Load, edit or delete PDF presets in CS6 InDesign not possible, it says: The folder may be write protected.
How do I solve this problem? I also work with Adobe Acrobat Professional X.

    OK.
Lets back up a bit and take things step by step so we all know exactly what's going on, and what you've tried and haven't tried.
First, what version of Windows are you using? The use simple file sharing is the very last option on my system (XP Pro) if you open Explorer and then use Tools > Folder Options > and select the View tab. This is also the tab where you will need to make hidden and system files visible, and I strongly recommend showing extensions for known file types as well. As far as I know this option (not to use simple file sharing) is available in XP home, too.
Second, once you've taken care of the first part, please do a search using the search in Windows Explorer, for *.joboptions under all files and be sure to select more options to search hidden and system files. You may find these files in more than one location, but the bulk of them will be in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings (note that this is the same directory as the one in the tree called "shared documents" -- I have no idea why the name is displayed differently in the folder tree than in the path in the address bar). Right click on one of those and select "Open Containing Folder" option.
The folder should open in a new window. Click the go up one level button in the toolbar (looks like a folder with an upward arrow on it), then right-click the settings folder icon and select either Properties or Sharing and Security (both open the properties dialog) and click on the security tab.
At this point, in all probability, the allow options are all grayed out because they should be inherited from the parent object. On my system the only user listed is "everyone" and they have full control. If yours is different, please let us know, and we'll go from there. If it's the same we'll try something different.

  • Illustrator actions stopped remembering pdf preset in CS6

    Hi guys,
I used to have my actions set up so i could easily save PDFs with different pdf presets, depending what the work was for (print, magazine ad with bleed, newspaper ad without bleed etc).
Now when I try CS6 and set up these actions in Illustrator it seems like the action wont use the preset I set it up with, and just defaults to the last one used.
Is there something I'm missing or is this indeed a flaw in CS6?  Its pretty time-saving for me so it would be a big deal-breaker upgrading to CS6.
    thanks

I had pdf actions that saved them to my desktop in CS5. Imported them into CS6, they did not work so rerecorded them in CS6 and they work.

  • Illustrator PDF Presets

I do not have any of my PDf presets in CS6 that I had in CS4 (like High Quality Print) does anyone have these or can I download them for somewhere. The illustrator default is creative enormous files.
    Thanks

You'll probably want to ask the folks over at the general Illustrator forum to help you out. They're more knowledge about Illustrstor-specific questions like yours.

  • Editing PDF presets in Illustrator CS6

    Question:
I want to edit the PDF presets I have already set up in Illustrator CS6. They were set up for a specific print job that I no longer need. For the life of me I cannot find an edit button OR a reset to default list button.
Either I am blind or digging too deeply and haven't found it yet but I'm now at an offical loss. If anyone could point me the right direction I'd be a happy person.
    Thnx

What OS? For a Mac they are in Users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings. If it's new version of OSX (10.7 0r 0.8, the User Library is hidden. Do a Google search on how to make it accessable.

  • PDF Presets lost in CS4 after uninstalling Photoshop CS5 trial

Upon removal of the Photoshop CS5 trial, I lost all of my Save as Adobe PDF Presets (.joboptions) in the CS4 versions of Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign. I miss them... so much....

Add me to the list of those affected as well....  *sigh*
    Edited to add:
So I contacted a friend and he sent me a copy of his default presets.  These need to be installed in the Macintosh HD > Library > Applications Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings folder.

  • Lost Ability to Choose PDF presets in all CS5 Suite

I am no longer able choose a pdf preset when saving a pdf from any application in the creative suite (Print, Screen, etc.) I can choose "Program Default" and custom. I don't recall if I've even tried to save at any of these sizes since installing CS5, so maybe they are just gone?
I also don't recall what updates may have happened to start this problem. I seem to remember doing a Mac system update that had an acrobat/reader update, but I'm not 100%.
Has anyone else encountered this? Fixes?

  • How to prevent PDF presets to alter image quality

In experimenting with various PDF presets, I noticed that with grayscale images in Photoshop, saving as PDFs using different presets, alters image quality, specifically the contrast.
Therefore, it seems like saving an image in the "wrong" PDF preset could undo a lot of prepress work. Is there a better way/format?
To get a crude idea: there is an 8.7% decrease in the percent black between 10% and 50% values (the range) on a step wedge between the original in Photoshop and the HighQuality PDF, which showed the same values, and the PDF/X-1a, which compressed the range by 4 percentage points (approximately a 8.7% decrease).
A visual, and idiosyncratic, assessment of four versions of the same image  (Photoshop grayscale, High Qualtiy PDF, PDF/X-1a, and PDF/X-3), which included a step wedge and color ramp, would rank the fidelity to the original from best, HighQuality, to worst, PDF/X-1a.
The same grayscale image in Photoshop CS6 was distilled (File > Print > Adobe PDF) to PDFs using unmodified PDF presets in Acrobat XI distiller.
The following composit screen shot (all four images on the screen, screen print, reorganizing them, then reducing the image to a 120 dpi at 4.2" wide (including text) gives some idea of the differences, but a lot got lost getting it here.

I do a lot of work with print-on-demand books (design and formatting), and I am active on the CreateSpace (the p-o-d division of Amazon.com). Although CS will accept work in virtually any PDF preset or origin (doPDF, cutePDF, etc.), PDF/X-1a is the recommended format, and for other companies it is the only accepted preset.
    Here is the dumb question:
On the monitor (as the screen shot shows) the four images (PS, HQ PDF, PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-4) appear quite different: i.e. my video/monitor system is representing the images differently.
A screen shot of all four images on the screen at the same time, then with the info window open in Photoshop, I assessed their CMYK values in the exact same places on each image (lining the images up, using the measure tool and  guidelines, measuring at high magnification); here (the color original followed by the original grayscalse conversion) are the black values (C00 M00 Y00 K1-100):
The images display differently, and those displays measure differently.
When I view the PDF images, they appear differently, but if i measure them (Output Preview set to Dot Gain 20%) the K values are the same.
When the same image is prepared using different PDF presets (a previous set of test using different images and looking for something different) they will print (printed in a black & white book by CreateSpace) differently.
How can one predict how a grayscale image will print? How can one prepare it and safely convert it to PDF?

  • Errors in Export to PDF for web use - some images are lost when PDF is enlarged & in browser

I have a multi-page PDF in InDesign CS6 that I want to export to view on the web. I need the file to stay under 2MB, and I need it to be crisp and nice enough to read the type on the page (as small as 9pt type).
The errors that are occurring are the following:
On some browsers, some images will entirely not show up. Some of the missing images have been pasted into the document, some placed. I cannot think of a correlation.
When the PDF is enlarged (Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.10) to more than ~200%, there is one placed image that will mostly disappear. What I mean by "mostly" is that little bits of it are still visible, like I masked it carelessly or something. Since this is only occurring with one image it seems that it would be a problem with the image itself, yes? I'm all ears if I'm making a mistake. It is a placed .ai file with no link errors. Should I not be placing directly from illustrator? It renders wonderfully from 100% all the way up to 188%, and then if you enlarge by margins of 1% little bits of it disappear, almost a chunk at a time.
The way I've been exporting is:
File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print)
Adobe PDF Preset: Smallest File Size
    Standard: None
    Compatinility: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
Options: Optimize for Fast Web View
Export Layers: Visible & Printable Layers
    Compression
I always change the downsampling from [100/150] to [150/225]. I usually leave the JPG image quality low. I leave both bottom boxes checked (compress text and line art, crop image data to frames)
    Output
    Color Conversion: convert to destination
    Destination: sRGB 1EC61966-2.1
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
However, after reading a few other forum questions I started trying to export as Acrobat 4 so that it would flatten. When I do that, problem #2 still persists although I didn't test problem #1. I haven't tried using Distiller, and using the "prepare for web publishing" action within Acrobat itself makes the PDF too artifacted.
At the heart of my question is this: I am a young designer at an old company that is not necessarily keeping up with the times. I REALLY want to know what the best, most efficient way to export a pdf for web viewing is. Does this exist in InDesign, outside of InDesign? Does it exist at all? Tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I can get better!
    Thank you in advance.

Show Large Images is a preference inside of Acrobat which might be disabled.

  • PDF presets not showing up in indesign CC

    Hi,
We have about 28 CC users on mac (mavericks), and we've just started using Indesign CC within the last month or so.
My problem is that we are 'deploying' via remote desktop, a standard set of PDF presets so everyone have the same settings. This works fine on cs3-cs6. But for some reason it does not work with indesign CC. CC wil only show the presets that are in the users/xxx/Application support/Adobe PDF/Settings folder and not the ones from the default folder /Library/Application support/adobe/adobe PDF/settings .
I can add them by either loading the presets in indesign one by one, on every single mac, or manually  also on every single mac, put the presets in the users folder, but both options really suck. Mind you we change presets very often, so this is really not ideal for me.
Hope someone can help direct me to the master PDF preset folder for CC - The one folder who rules them all !!!

  • Problem with opening some of PDFs in Photoshop CS6.

Hi, I have a problem with opening some of PDFs in Photoshop CS6. It is said: it isn't possible to carry out an order since the module of the file format cannot analyse this file

Don’t know if Reader has this, too, but in Acrobat one can check under Document Properties.
I can convert and place the file in Photoshop CS6.
I would recommend trying the usual trouble-shooting routines and if nothing helps un-installing, running the Cleaner and re-installing Photoshop.  (After making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved to s secure location.)

  • InDesign CS3 PDF Presets disappeared

One of my Macs that has been working fine for a while has suddenly lost it's PDF Presets. I should maybe say misplaced, as they are available in the File>Adobe PDF Presets drop-down menu, but not via the Print dialog.
    Dual 2.3 G5, OS X 10.4.11, InDesign 5.0.4, Acrobat 7 instead of 8 due to Quark, Quark 6.52

I ran through the usual suspects; repair disk permissions, update OS and CS3. No luck. I stubmled upon the link below, again, and manually set permissions for the Application Support folder. It works again (for all accounts).

  • Any way to export a book using a PDF preset?

Let me first explain the workflow we have right now, and that we are slowly trying to improve upon, but nonetheless...
I am designing a newspaper. We have two individuals who pagenate the pages, laying out the advertisements on them before sending me a packaged InDesign document of each page.
I, right now, am going and opening each InDesign document, then dragging it into my master document, which takes some time. I then finish laying out the newspaper with copy.
I thought recently I might instead simply open all the InDesign documents in a book and then finish laying out the newspaper from there.
My First question though is, can you actually thread text from one text box to a text box in another document within the book? If not, is there any practical solution to this?
Secondly, I tried exporting a book with one of the PDF presets we have created, but I only saw the two options, PDF print and PDF interactive. Is there no way to export a book as one of the pdf presets?
    I'm working on a mac on CS6.

First, no, you cannot thread between files, so you would need to move pages from one file into the other.
Second, you can certainly export the book to PDF. There are two "flavors" of PDF, interactive or print, but either one can be used to make a PDF from the entire Book. Choose Export Book as PDF from the Book Panel flyout menu, choose your flavor as appropriate, then choose a location and finally the options.

  • PDF output InDesign CS6

When I try to export a document in IDCS6 to one of the Adobe PDF presets, I can't specify specific pages of the document there is a button that allows you to select "pages" but no box where you can type in the specific pages...this does not happen in CS5.5 or CS5 versions...the panel is different...I often export specific pages of a document to be sent out for review and can't do it in CS6 version of InDesign

This was at first difficult to figure out for me too. I too used to create full PDF and then extract pages!
I was surprised (after discovering that I could type in it) that Adobe had such a UI.
Another learning was that pages needed to be specified as actual page numbers of the book (in case the file was part of book) not the page sequence in the file. But that is Ok.
It is discoverbility that "you can type in here" which I think Adobe should improve. (Maybe they have in CC I don't know, I am still happy with CS6)

  • Strange PDF presets just appeared???

    Hi everyone
Anyone come across this before. Just installed Indesign 6 today, works beautiful.
However these strange PDF presets have just appeared from no-where???
Can't delete them in the PDF define panel any ideas to get rid of them????
Any suggestions would be great. (screen shot below)
    Colum

I just purchased and downloaded InDesign CS6 from cloud on March 27, 2013. I see the exact strange Presets Colum in my newly purchase Adobe Indesign PDF presets
I use the same program on school computer (two different schools, two different compueters) and all of them have the usual/normal pdf presets.
I am in Canada and my primary language is English, so no, I definitly didnit use Japanese version. However starngely my presets show the same thing as yours does Colum! It was also crashing when exporting to PDF and in the pdf menu, it didn't give me the blank space to type pages I want to export. And also in that menu it showed something called Costume V!
I was on the phone with Adobe for an hour with no result (India, which frustrates me as anything as conversations on their call centre are not optimized and they are not trained well to know the latest changes in CS6 it seems!)
Then looking at Adobe online help I found one clue (Adobe didn't even upgrade the help to include them all! )
look at this page and search for worg Japan to see the Japan Magazine Preset mentioned! Did anybody found any other clues?
