Lost my playlists and something else :o(

I have a MacBook Pro, with the HD partitioned into "Mac HD" and "Audio". I have a rather large music library on "Audio" that is linked to my Serato library.
Today, I noticed that some of my playlists were missing.
I found this online: iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support and followed the instructions. I have now gone from well over 22000 songs, to just over 5000 tracks.
I noticed there are 2 iTunes libraries on my mac. One on "Mac HD" drive which appears to be about 30 gb, and another on the "Audio" drive (where I have set iTunes as the default drive and folder for my music).
The playlists I was looking for were not restored with the above process. However.... When I do a Spotlight search, I can find the name of the playlist I'm missing on a file called music.txt. How do I get all this back to normal?

I should add, when I started the process from the link above, iTunes started dumping audio onto my "Mac HD" drive... something I didn't want to do. I only have about 20gb free space there now

  • "And the beat goes on...." Lost all playlists and 8.0.2 takes away features

Upgrade to 8.0.2 has been a disaster-beware out there. Lost all playlists and have yet to get an answer on how to fix that problem so am just going to create new playlists(could be a good thing).
The latest f...up is that 8.0.2 seems to have taken away the option of creating a "smart shuffle" with songs being played less randomly-used to go to Preferences, Playback, and one of the options was a slider where you could choose how random your shuffle would be. Now there is no slider for that and I keep hearing the same songs constantly in my "random shuffle".
This is one of the reasons people are warned not to ever upgrade your itunes-because Apple ALWAYS takes away features from their customers in their latest upgrades-it's their whole corporate philosophy and mindset. They don't care for their customers-just want to appear "cool" and above everyone else(sometimes called arrogance).
So, is there a way to get the random slider back? Can I "downgrade" my itunes so I can get features that have been stolen from us by Apple?

You might have had a damaged 'iTunes Library' file.
Look in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes to see if such a file exists.
Unfortunately these damaged files cannot be repaired.
iTunes tries to restore as much information as possible, but some information is lost.
Your missing 2000 tunes probably still are on your HD.
To add these again to the library, drop the 'iTunes Music' folder (in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes) on the library window in iTunes.
iTunes will now add the missing songs to the library again.
If all goes well, your library will now list the 6200 songs.
Concerning your iPod. I think it's best to start from scratch.
If your iPod is set to automatically update, connect your iPod and immediately press and hold the Command and Option keys. Hold these keys down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Holding these keys prevents the iPod from auto updating.
Then restore your iPod and set it up the way you want.
Your 'Purchased' playlist will re-appear on your next purchase.
In the meantime you can create a Smart Playlist with the rule:
    Kind - contains - protected
This playlist will then list all your purchases.
After the Purchased playlist re-appears, it will only list new purchases. If you want it to contain all purchases, drag the songs from the Smart Playlist to the 'Purchased' playlist.
Or just forget the 'Purchased' playlist and use the 'Smart Playlist' to view your purchases.
    Hope this helps.

  • On my list of calls made/received some of them have an icon which is a phone handset and something else.  Can you tell me what this is and where to I D icons?

On my list of incoming/outgoing phone calls some of them have an icon beside the name which is a telephone handset and something else I don't recognize.  Can anyone tell me what it means and where to find a list of icon explanations?  Thanks.

You're probably talking about the handset with an arrow pointing up and to the right. That indicates an outgoing call.

  • Swapping between 801.2X and something else - vanished buttons

I use my computer at home and at uni, and must swap between two different servers and airport systems (although I'm not entirely sure of the technical stuff) and the buttons for doing this have disappeared. I took them for granted, so never really paid much attention to what they said, but I know they're gone!
I had to go into 'Internet Connect' then up the top there was a row of buttons, and I had to swap between 801.2X for uni and something else for home. These are the buttons that have disappeared.
Does anyone have any ideas where they might be? It makes it very hard to swap between the two now, and I never know if my internet will work properly.
    Thanks!

If only life was that simple! I already have them set up as different locations. I was told when I first set up for the uni system that if it wasn't working, to change from VPN (home) and 802.1X (uni) in at the top of the 'Internet Connect' box. It's these buttons that have disappeared, along with 'Airport' and 'Summary', and the option for adding a new 802.1X connection is greyed out in the File menu (although the New VPN Conenction one isn't).
Thanks for trying, that would be a great idea, but it's already been done... Any more ideas?

I sync'ed my iPod and lost my playlists on the iPod and Genius appears.  How do I get the playlists back on my iPod?

All you can do is restore from backup if yu have one. If you backed up to iTunes make sure that autosyncing is turned off. Otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the backup with you data might be overwritten. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devicesand check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

This article on how to re-create your library gives one way that is most likely to restore the most stuff. It also links to other methods if that doesn't work.

  • Lost all playlists and purchaced music when upgrading

I Just upgraded to itunes 7.6 version and 'bam' all my beloved playlists and purchaced music are gone! - anyone have any ideas where they could be? The playlists that do appear on the screen are ones that I created some years ago for an earlier transfer to a long lost ipod. Help!!!

Perhaps the upgrade reset the iTunes Music Folder location?
Edit -> Prefs -> Advanced tab -> General
If you know the location of your songs see if its changed. If you know the name of one of your songs, search your PC? for that song name. That should show you the location of the file. That location should be in the General tab above.
What about your account info, did that get reset? Can you still sign on?
    Store -> Sign In.
I dont know how all of the purchase music thing works yet because ive been working a 2 week long issue myself that I just fixed.

    Does
    setxkbmap pt
work? If yes, put it in  your .xinitrc or .xsession

    Put
    xterm*faceSize: 14
in ~/.Xdefaults (14 is the default size)
    Run: xrdb .Xdefaults
and start xterm to check the changes. I haven't tried it, though.

  • Lost all playlists and purchases !!!

    Hi,
New to forum and urgently need a really experienced person to help with this.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and have had no end of problems with my computer since. Anyway, have restored most files but my iTunes has been playing up BIG TIME! Have un-installed / re-installed / un-installed again and so forth...
Having thought I had lost all of my files (even after backing up!) I managed to finally restore everything today (after nearly a week of perserverence) including losing all of my playlists (which I somehow manged to find of sorts...some tracks missing from own compiliations for some reason??)
So, computer has nearly gone through the window having restored all 300 + albums / artworks etc and dragged all music across to playlists from Music file only for iTunes to close all of a sudden and when I re-opened all my playlists have vanished and the album covers remain but with no images! Also this time round my purchases have disappeared from my Purchases Folder...very bizarre.
Have dragged library back across and album covers replaced, but still cannot find orginal playlists and their contents anywhere on my computer or external drive...
Can someone please, please, please tell me how I can restore all of my playlists as they were. Can't even seem to find on my external drive now which they were backed up to yet i manged to find only yesterday...it's like I have a gremlin...have run a full system check and  no bugs or anything detected.
HELP!!!! Have spent toooooo much time trying to resolve this and now getting desperate...
A step by step guide would be really appreciated ;-)

    Hi, dynammyke75.
Although your iTunes Library display is empty, your song files are probably still on your hard drive.
So the first thing you want to do is to confirm whether or not that is the case. Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some ideas on how to find them, changing file extensions in the search as is necessary (i.e. .mp3 or .m4a.)

  • Lost libraries/playlists and bought tracks after update to iTunes 9.2.1.!

Help! I've lost all my playlists I've been creating since 2007. Just updated to a new iTunes version, and everything is gone.
Any advice on getting my playlists or old settings back? I have backups, and when I want to import the old iTunes libraries I get error messages that the files can not be read.
Other users with the same problem? And a solution?

  • Upgraded iTunes and lost apps, playlists, and songs

I recently had to update my version of iTunes so I could update my iphone. A  week or so after I did this I went onto iTunes and it looked different, all my apps were gone, my playlists were gone, and I lost all songs after 2010. I had a playlist for each of my family members ipods and a seperate one for my phone as my phone doesn't hold much. When I plug one of them in it says if I try to sync it will lose the stuff on the devices. I was reluctant to do this in the first place as this happened to me years ago with an update. I have since done it a few more times with no issues. But in order to update my phone it said I had to. I have about had it with apple products and hearing things that happen to others information and losing it all. I am tired of the constant asking for updates and upgrades. If there is anyone that could help me I would appreciate it.

Check and see if you have a folder named Previous iTunes Libraries.
Then use these directions to try and open them to see if the most recent one has all your meta data.

  • Itunes 7.0.1.8 lost my playlists and shows error -1450, pls Help!

I was a very happy user of Itunes 'till now. Really I have tried all, reinsatlling, sharing, reseting. But every time I close my computer my playlists dissapear and I have to reinstall my library. I have 4 Ipods, so imagine not having playlists! Of course I don´t want to sync...

Thank you for the suggestion, b noir. I appreciate the response. Here's what I did given the trouble shooting directions:
1)Disable Direct3D video acceleration in QuickTime -- I did this but it didn't fix the problems, so I re-enabled it again.
2)Disable DirectX in QuickTime -- I then did this. The problems persisted. I think disabling this may have even made things worse so I re-enabled it also.
3)Modify your System Drive Configuration -- I checked these and they are already set as recommended.
I have no problems with color, so that leaves drivers. Yikes. I don't want to screw up everything else on the computer. What kind of drivers are we talking about? I'm going to check the Dell website but I'm not exactly clear what I should be looking for.

  • Lost my playlists and itunes is not opening the library

About two months ago I purchased an external HDD and moved my music library to that. I redirected itunes to those files via the edit button/advanced and created the path. Within the last two weeks the library does not show the songs and all of the playlists are gone. I went into "MY computer" and followed the path to the external HDD and the music was still their, the path was directed to the external HDD but nothing shows up in ITUNES. I think my daughter updated at the suggestion of ITunes. but not sure if that was the culprit. HelP!!
    Thank you!

How did you actually move the music files to the external hard drive? Just changing the music library location does not move the music files.
If you right click on a file and select "Get Info", and then check the path shown does the file exist at that location? If not is it still in the old location?
When the update was done it probably dropped the play lists and songs it could not find which is why they are not showing up.

  • My iTunes crached! I lost my playlists and 60 GBs of music. Can I get back may playlists and music? How?

My battery went down. I opened my iTunes and there I found that all my palylists gone and most of my music gone. HELP!

I suppose you did not have a backup of your hard drive?
You need to be very exact in posting because we only have what you say with which to work.  You see some of your music listed in your library but all your playlists are gone and a lof of music also isn't listed in the iTune window?  I have never heard of that and to me it would say major file corruption on your computer, but then it surprises me the library file would even open.  If that's the case you may need to rebuild your library from scratch with whatever files are in your media folder.  This is going to take some doing so I won't start until I know that's what you need to do.  Of course if you do have a backup then you can restore everything quickly.
