You might have upgraded the operating system?
You can always use the end call key to power down the device, you really don't need to waste space with an icon.
Anyway, if you want to keep looking...
1. On your homescreen, press the Menu key > SHOW ALL, so that SHOW ALL is checked.
2. Look in EACH folder on your device... Applications, Instant Messengers, Downloads, etc.

• Turn off icon preview on all folders?

Looking for a good way to turn off icon previews on all folders, especially on a networked drive.
If I open a folder and choose View > Show View Options, I can turn off the icon previews for that folder, but the others remain unchanged. (Even if I push the use as defaults button)
Is there a script to command that I can run to change this on all folders recursively?

Thanks!!! I had been looking for like 25mins before i luckily ran into this thread!

• Can i turn off icon labels in Symbian ^3 on my N8?

just updated my N8 from anna to belle and my first inclination is to turn off what was originally called tool tips, or the superfluous labels underneath each icon in the GUI.  i mean isn't that what the G stands for - Graphical?  the Nokia representative checked on it, but could find no user setting to resolve this.  she did say that in fact these labels are 'theme' controlled so i'm off in search of a (third party?) theme that would render my icons label-less...

hi mate,
there may be some custom themes that remove this label, but normally you cannot turn them off, no. i personally have no issue with them and find them quite useful in time.

• Configuration changes lost when turn off

Every change I do in preferences for Finder or any other application get lost when I turn off the Mac.
I haver cehcked and repair de disk privileges.
Operating system is Lion
Anybody can help?
Cheers

Only the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

• IPhone remains disabled after Lost Mode turned off by owner

Hi, my phone (iPhone 4, iOS7) was returned to me after I activated Lost Mode on iCloud. I have turned off Lost Mode on Find My iPhone, but my phone still shows 'iPhone is disabled' and I can only swipe to emergency calling. iTunes 'could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked and in Lost Mode’. Its location is accurate on iCloud/plays sounds so my 3G is fine. Please help, this is a real locked out owner and I am all ready to put in my legit Apple ID details and 4 digit passcode to enter my own (missing-and-found) iPhone.
50 miles to nearest Apple store! T_T
Thanks!

If disabled, you'll either have to force into recovery mode & restore it, as described here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Or, login to iCloud.com, from your computer, find the phone, the erase it.

• Settings / radio stations lost when turned off (Muvo TX

Hi,
I have bought a MUVO TX FM 52, but when I turn it off, all my settings are erased!!!
All my preset radio stations are gone, and all other settings are lost as well
I do hope/beli've that this is not how it's supposed to work - any ideas? Hints?
Thanks, Jesper.Message Edited by jespermuvo on 04-05-2005 08:22 PM

I recently bought a Muvo TX FM in US and came back to Brazil. After a few days, it started turning itself off at any times. A few days later, it stopped doing this and started turning off whenever I tried to push the wheel forward in the FM mode.
Has anyone heard of this? Can anyone help me?
Creative doesn't provide me with any support in Brazil. I really needed to solve this as soon as possible.
Please send me an e-mail ([email protected]][email protected])

• Why all settings lost from turning off power to Airport Express?

QUERY: Am I required to keep the Airport Express unit powered continuously forever after now, or have to re-enter all the network names and passwords every time the power is turned off?
I just bought Airport Express station a few weeks back. It's downstairs next to the cable modem and my 7-year-old iMac purchased in 2004, which has no wireless capability. There is NO cable outlet OR telephone line upstairs near brand new iMac, which is WHY I BOUGHT THE AIRPORT EXPRESS; I didn't want to string a 100-foot ethernet cable upstairs.
Monday a very patient Apple tech guy talked me through getting it set up, which involved my racing up & down the stairs, re-setting the unit to clear my unsuccessful data inputs from the previous week, watching and waiting for the unit amber light to turn green, then in-putting the new data. With the tech guy's help, it worked fine.
Since the unit gets HOT while plugged in to the socket, I switched off the power strip. (My disabled brother and I live together, and we have to share a single connection to the internet. I'm away from home during the day, so this has worked fine when we used ethernet cables and a hub seven years ago.)
BUT now the very first time I've powered up the Airport Express since it was working FINE, it's NOT working. Amber light just blinks slowly forever.
I'm posting this from my SEVEN-YEAR-OLD iMac, 'cause the Airport Express evidently needs to be reset. Since following the instructions the FIRST time DID NOT WORK, I wanted to find out if powering down the Airport CAUSED the data to evaporate, before calling Apple again. Hey! I've been working with Macs, teaching computer graphics and working in interactive games for 3 decades! But clearly, there are GAPS in my understanding.
Thanks for any comments.

• Turn off icon preview for everything except pix?

I.m.o. it was a step backward in Leopard that icon previews were also made for text documents. This is nonsense. I have to see at the first glimpse what a Pages document is and what's an RTF; it's absurd to show the text preview in an icon! You can't recognize the content of a text document in 48X48, 0,01p size!
I can only turn the previews on / off for all kinds of files. But then I can't recognize pix either, which is annoying.
At the moment, I have made all extension visible, but reading an extension is not as fast as seeing a file's icon.
*Does anyone know an app, hack or anything to turn previews off for everything except pictures?*
Thank you very much
Peter

Baltwo,
Thanks for trying to help me out.
To give you some more detail:
If, for example, in Excel 2004 I do CMD-O, then a window pops up to open a file. Top left of that window I can select the view mode for that window (3 possibilities). Now, if it is ´list´or ´columns´ view I indeed only see generic icons. However, if I select ´icons´ view (leftmost possibility of the 3), I see all icons change into previews. This despite the fact that in finder I disabled icon preview for all view modes (including ´icon´ view).
Problem is the same in any application when opening files in ´icon´ view mode. A bit annoying.
Thanks,
HansC

• Lost Power Off icon

Hello,
I was re-arranging my icon and noticed that I somehow lost my Power Off icon.  Anyone know how I can get it back?
Thanks
Solved!
Go to Solution.

If you did a wipe on your device and then installed OS 2 I believe this icon is no longer provided. RIM has removed some of the icons that were present in the original OS version.
If you tap on the battery icon on the home screen you will get options to Restart, Stand By, or Turn Off. You can also get the same by holding down the power button.
If you deleted it by accident I don't know if any way to get it back.

• Airport turns off, won't come back w/o restart

My Airport card has been driving me crazy since approximately late May. It turns off at will, and I've searched the net and tried a host of fixes -- resetting RAM and whatnot (holding down various button at restart), deleting and adding a new location in network prefs, etc etc -- but nothing has worked. I'm afraid (and becoming increasingly convinced) that it is a hardware issue. Things are fine when I leave my MBP on the desk. But as soon as I try to move it, or put it in my lap, the Airport turns off (icon at upper right goes "empty"). And it won't turn back on unless I restart. This happens every time I move it, though if I'm reeeally careful and hold it at the front/sides, it might make it to its new location...for a bit. Then, if I move it around too much...gone.
I'm out of warranty and don't have Applecare, so if this is purely hardware related, I might be SOL...or have to do some surgery myself. But if anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated. Like I said, I've tried resetting everything at startup, erasing and adding a new location in network prefs...nothing worked at all.
(Also worth nothing, back in Nov 08, I had a problem with the board, which incidentally was also interfering with the Airport a bit....but it was mostly just causing system failure. Sent it in via an Apple Store, and when it came back, the board issue/kernel panics/etc were gone, but I had a HD hum....as in, faint clicking noise coming from the right upper area. Stops when I hold down the P, [, or ] keys, or those in the vicinity. Unfortunately, my warranty ran out shortly after, and I couldn't afford to lose my comp for a couple of weeks in there. *****. Now here I am.)

try a security wipe, doubt it will work but worth a try
backup device
options- security options- general settings
menu button- wipe handheld
wait till you BB reboots adn test it again without restoring your backup
if that doesnt work, try this
make sure you have DTM 4.7 or 5.0 installed and closed
plug in BB
click on start- run and type
cmd
press enter, then type
cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
press enter, then type
loader.exe /resettofactory
press enter
wait till you BB reboots adn test it again without restoring your backup.

• I was updating my ipod and i lost wifi, so i turned off my ipod, and when i tried to turn it on it went to the normal apple logo then flashed and went to a pink screen. Ive tried restoring it, but it hasnt worked. PLEASE HELP

So i was updating my ipod earlier yesterday, i kinda steal wifi from the neighbors so it was pretty weak.... i lost wifi (i think) because it stopped loading, so i turned off my ipod. And when i tried turning it on again it did the apple logo then went to a full out pink screen. Ive tried turning it back on and off a billion times, and sometimes the screen colors will change. I recently just tried restoring it like 10 times and usually itll just interenwrupt the restoring process. By the way, wh i plug it into the computer it doesnt recognize the device. I had to put it into recovery mode. Pleasehelp, this ipotd is my life. I cant take it to the apple store because its badly cracked, and ive had it for about 2 y and a half years. PLease help.

Hi-
I had the same thing happen to me Thursday night, and I just got mine right 30 minutes ago (and it is now Saturday am). Like you I repeatedly tried to restore it (by holding down the home key and powere button at the same time; then plugging it up to my computer and trying to get it to restore through iTunes). My computer didn't initially recognize my ipod either. - One thing- be sure that your battery isn't dead/dying. If it is, charge it (it should charge-mine did), then start the process of restoring it again. Make sure when you hold the home and power keys down that you are linked to iTunes.- You will eventually get a screen that has the itunes icon it, with a usb cable underneath it. At that point your computer will recognize your ipod, and you'll be able to restore it...This will take a LONG time.- Good luck.

• After recent update to airport on iMac, the wifi connection is lost when it goes to sleep and requires turning off wifi and turning it on to reestablish contact.

After recent update to OS on iMac, communication to airport is lost when computer goes to sleep.  To reestablish connection, I need to turn wifi off then on.

same problem here.
i have a time capsule.
symptoms:
excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar
airport utility is a complete waste of time
old airport utility is still better.
