Lost old backed-up files while moving music from an old computer to new Mac

I was following the support topic, "How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer" on the support tab for iTunes. I followed all of the instructions and in one of the final steps, I was gping to put the estimated 1000 songs I already had on my Mac back into itunes. BUT, the folder on the desktop that SHOULD have had the files in it is completely empty. I need help locating those files. iTunes now only show the roughly 700 songs that I transferred in from my old computer. My boyfriend is going to be so angry if I lost 1000 of his songs...I followed the instructions on backing up those songs...how can I fix this??? This is the address to the support article I followed: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

Did you search your HD with Spotlight to locate the missing tunes?

  • I've copied all of my iTune's library music  from my PC to my new mac. Now how can my I get my iPhone to sync with this new iTunes?

I did the "home sharing" to get all of my music from my PC to my new mac (as told by a apple worker). Then I copied all of my music and playlists from the shared library to my actually itunes library. Now I don't know how to sync my iPhone up to this computer..? I've tried and it'll say it's syncing but the new song i bought to test it out won't show up on my phone.

When you buy your new iMac you will be able to have the installation process transfer all your applications, data (including music, pictures, documents, etc) and settings to your new computer. In the past that was done via Firewire. I'm not entirely sure of the process with the new iMacs that don't have firewire. I think it can be done via ethernet and probably via tha thunderbolt cord using a firewire adapter but you'll want to check that out.
With the your new computer properly connected to your old computer, the initial booting of the new computer will include the ability to move everything over.
If for some reason you don't want to do that (smart if you have some horrible software issue that is causing problems) you can connect your old computer to the new one and start it in Target Disk mode where it will be seen as a hard drive. You can then manually copy over all your music and import that into iTunes (and any other data you want).
Somebody here will surely point you to directions for connecting an older iMac with no Thunderbolt to a newer iMac with no Firewire.

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

  • How do I transfer music from my iPod to my new mac?

I just got a new mac and would like to transfer my music from my iPod to my new mac. Ive tried a few programs to do it and it will not let me because of IOS 5. Any help?

if it was bought on the ipod then you can transfer
otherwise you have to rely on the 3th party programs catching up with ios5 way of doing it
apple makes it like this to avoid people using ios devices to tranfer illegal material from computer to computer

  • Moving music from iPad to computer

My mother bought an iPad2 about a month ago and downloaded all her music from her computer to the iPad2 with my help. Recently, her computer went nuts and she had to completely wipe it clean so she lost all of her iTunes music files. She asked me if there was a way that she could take the music from the iPad2 and download it back onto the computer. I have been told that this is impossible to do. Does anyone know if you can do this and if you can, could you give me detailed instructions on how to do so?
    Thanks!

This is a recommended method to move music from iPad to computer:
Step 1. Turn off automatic syncing in iTunes, do this through iTunes Preferences > Devices > check “Prevent iOS hardware from syncing automatically”, then quit iTunes
Step 2. Download iStonsoft iPad/iPhone/iPod to Computer Transfer  and install it
Step 3. Connect the iPad to the computer by USB data cable
Step 4. Run iStonsoft iPad/iPhone/iPod to Computer Transfer and click the arrow next to the iOS devices name, then click the arrow next to “Media” and then again next to “iTunes_Control”
Step 5. Drag the entire “Music” folder to a location on the desktop, this is all of your music and it may take a while to transfer
Step 6. Wait a while,Finish!you success to transfer music from iPad to computer
Tip: iPod and iPhone is also the same way,you can also transfer photos, video.etc

  • Moving Music FROM iPod to Computer...

My computer crashed, dammit. Fortunately, had my music backed up on my iPod.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like iTunes wants to allow me move it onto my new computer. Is this some crazy iTunes security feature, or am I doing something wrong?? Any workarounds??? Aargh!!!!
    Help, please?

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.

Can I copy music from my old iPod to my MacBook Pro?  If so, how?  Jim

If the above option is too much work you may want to look into iRip which you can find information on it at http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/ there are other software out there starting from free and going up in price, but iRip has a free demo to recover 100 tracks.

  • Transferring music from an Pod to a new mac

    Hi,
I have deauthorised my old computer and all of my itunes purchased songs have appeared in my library on the new computer which is grand.
However, my cd music from the old computer won't transfer via the iPod to the new computer, - is there a way to do this???
I havn't synced the new computer with the iPod except manually , and all new purchases have to be manually transferred into the iPod (which dosn't bother me too much) - the reason I'm doing it manually is becuase iTunes wants to wipe the iPod and put only the current iTunes library on the new computer onto the iPod.
    thanks

  • How can I get my music from my ipod to my new mac book air??

I bought a new macbook and can not figure out how to move my music from my ipod to the new computer?

    Hi.
You will need some sort of third-party software to 'drag' your music out of your iPod.
In order to make sure people don't use their iPods as giant portable disks to share 1000's of songs, they haven't made a function to extract your music from the device.
As said, you'll need some sort of software to do so.
    I hope this was helpful.

  • How to transfer music from my iPhone to my new mac book pro itunes

I would like to transfer my music from my iphone into my new macbook pro itunes

    Questions:
Is the music from iTunes store or other source?
Do you have an iTunes or iCloud account?
What kind of Internet connection(s) do you have available?
If you have an iTunes account and purchased the music there, you can just make sure the new MacBook is using the same account as the phone and sync, or look at the Purchased list on the left side in iTunes on the Mac. You should see your past purchases there and they will download and play as needed.
If your music isn't iTunes purchased, I don't know how to do it... someone will.
What is your setup as far as iTunes?

  • How do I add music from my iPod to my new Mac that has an existing library?

Hoe do I sync the iPod to the new computer without deleting any music from the me computer?

    Hello timfromsalem,
It sounds like you need some guidance for transferring media from your device to a new computer. I have linked to an article which will instruct you on how to manage your media:
