Hi Dhinoo:
There were no themes in previous iMovie versions. Perhaps you mean iDVD themes?

  • Old movies already on DVD's...How do I get them onto iMovie

Have already transferred old VCR tapes to DVD. Is there a way to get them into iMovie ?? I can not import.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
I'd recommend reimporting from VHS to DV, but if you aren't prepared to do that you can convert your DVD's to DV with 3rd party software (I use mpegstreamclip - free, but you will also need the  QT mpeg2 playback component installed to use mpegstreamclip on mpeg2 files).

  • I lost my videos in iMovie when setting up iTunes on my iPadAir

I purchased a new iPadAir and then recorded 5 new videos in iMovie on it. I then needed to bring in an MP3 recording from iTunes to edit into one of the videos, so I began setting up iTunes on the new iPadAir. While setting up iTunes I was asked if I wanted to keep my settings from my old iPad, and I said "Yes." Then when the setup was complete, I had my old videos from iMovie that were originally on my old iPad...now in iMovie on my new iPadAir, but the 5 new videos I had just recorded on the new iPadAir had completely disappeared from iMovie.
    I'm running on iOS 7.1.1.
When I go to "Manage Storage" it's showing that the latest Backup for the iPad was incomplete, and the backup size is 1.4 GB.
Then for iMovie itself under "Manage Storage", it's showing a backup size of 0.1 KB under "Documents & Data".
I'm guessing that I've now lost these 5 new videos, but if you have any idea about how I can retrieve them let me know.
    Thanks.
    Jim

I now see that a file was stored on the hard drive of my laptop computer from the exact same time that I was synching iTunes between this computer and my new iPadAir. The file is named iMovie200, it's an iOS file, and it's 654 MB in size.
Could this file, among other things, contain the 5 videos that I'm missing? If so, how do I get the videos from this file and import them into iMovie on my new iPadAir?

  • IMovie is no longer opening my videos in iPhoto/Photobooth. Claims that it is not authorized to and tells me to open them with iTunes. I want to open them with iMovie! Help, please?

This is kind of complicated, but basically my Mac OSX laptop's hardrive recently crashed, but I got a new one and used a passport to put all of my old Word docs, iTunes, photos, and movies back onto the new hardrive. Everything was working fine until I tried to use iMovie. I filmed two new videos in Photobooth, imported those into iPhoto and then prepared to go to iMovie to import the new videos (that was my system) so I could make them Youtube-compatible. However, at first iMovie wanted to make thumbnails of ALL my videos (up until then I had just assumed all of my old 50 videos were buried in my iPhoto?), but I just dismissed that and agreed to it, and it gave me the memo that it would take 4 hours to do, but that was alright... UNTIL I got a pop-up thingy saying that "iMovie is not authorized to play this content. Open with iTunes to view" (something along those lines) and then the rainbow wheel of death appeared and I had to force-quit. I tried this three times. I finally checked on iTunes to discover that all my old movies had transferred over to iTunes. That hadn't been that way before. I would prefer to have them on iMovie/iPhoto, and I NEED to be able to use iMovie to edit and such. Can anyone explain to me what might be going on and offer a quick fix (if there is one?)? Sorry for the lengthy explanation! Also, if this requires a visit to the Apple store, in the meantime, is it possible to upload a video to Youtube from iTunes (one that I made, not purchased from iTunes)?
    Pretty please someone answer!

    Well Authorize the Computer...........

  • New & Old Versions of iMovie

    Just a quick question...
I have to do project for school & the computers we are using are called "eMacs."
They have an old version of iMovie on them (not sure which one) & i was wondering if I could create a video using iMovie on my brand new MacBook Pro & be able to open it on that older eMac. My teacher said it wasn't possible...but I wanted another answer.
    Can anyone help me please?

    thank you though!

  • Converting old dvd for imovie

Six years ago I converted old home movies with a VHS/DVD converter.  I would now like to get them into imovie for editing but it couldn't import/read them. So, I downloaded Handbrake and converted the DVDs to .m4v and Imovie wouldn't import that either. I saw on some previous discussion that suggested changing the file extension to MOV, I did that and imovie will still not recognize them.
When I try to just open it normal with quicktime/itunes I get the message that it is not in a format recognized.
Are there some setting in Handbrake that I am missing when I originally convert?
    Thank you!

You didn't say what format you converted them to, but if you don't feel like spending $55:
You need to convert the files to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Idvd download "Old Themes"

    Hello
Can anyone please tell me about downloading the "old theme"s to my new imac. The message gives me 3 options. The internet download is 302MB and after watching the spinning beachball for about 1/2 hour I force quit and tried to log off and got blue screen with spinning clock thing and finally had to do a hard shutdown. So, was it really doing the download (spinning beachball) or was it just stuck? Did I over react? How long will it take? Is there an easier way?
This is really, really, REALLY important because I have dozens of archived idvd projects with old themes attached AND iMovies (version 5) of those idvds that aren't supported with leopard!!! To recreate them is, well, impossible! I have all the pieces parts but not the time or the patience to reassemble them. Some are pretty long & involved. At least I archived a version of each iMovie in idvd ,,, but now THIS .. another hoop to jump thru! Please advise,
    Thank you,
    Beth

    SDMacuser,
I finally figured out what the idvd message was telling me about using the 2nd disk to install extra media. Success! Didn't have to download.
I will NOT be switching to leopard for my ibook at all. Tiger is just fine. At least I can tweak my OLD imovies, create an archived idvd version, and transfer them to an external to burn on the imac (my ibook doesn't have a dvd burner and a patch to use my lacie firewire burner hasn't worked yet). It's like going around the block just to get next door.
    Thanks for your input!
    Beth

  • Old themes on new computer

I have a new iMac and came with the latest version of iLife. Now how would I get back my old themes onto my computer. Never had any older version of iLife on this computer it's brand new.

    Sue,
Well Yes, But I'm not one of-.. "those" you know.
If you want you can get to know me well. We get along so we shouldn't argue And I don't know, said I don't know, All these feelings just cloud up my reasoning. Cloud up my reasoning (MB20)
Besides, right, wrong or otherwise I'll be on your side. If for no other reason than the fact that your namesake is synonymous with an argument you simply don't want to be on the wrong side of.
Anyway we both missed the fact that the themes appeared to be iMovie themes because the iDVD button used to be in iMovie along with the clip, photo, effects etc. buttons.
My defense is insanity, what's yours?
    (pause)
Those: We came here for a good argument!
Us: AH, no you didn't, you came here for an argument!
Those: An argument isn't just contradiction.
    Us: Well! it CAN be!
    Those: No it can't!
An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a
    proposition.
    Us: No it isn't!
Those: Yes it is! 'tisn't just contradiction.
Us: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position!
Those: Yes but it isn't just saying "no it isn't".
    Us: Yes it is!

  • Is there a way i can use the themes from imovie in final cut

i would like to use the themes in iMovie '11 (e.g. news theme) in my video in final cut.

You can't directly. You could make part of the video like the open in FCE and export it and then import it into FCE, but the themes don't apply to FCE.

  • Can I get an old version of Imovie to macbook OS X 10.6.8

Can I get an old version of Imovie to macbook OS X 10.6.8?

How old? iMovie 6 upwards will work with Snow Leopard, iMovie 5 and below will not.
If you are asking how to install it, use your original install disks, then Software Update to get the latest version of the particular version of iMovie you have installed.

  • Themes in iMovie

I am making a movie for Father's Day. I am not sure how to use the themes in iMovie. I want to use them as chapter title pages. I select the them and see a drop zone but I cannot put a photo in the drop zone without it being chopped off by iMovie. What are the steps for editing the drop zone in a theme clip in iMovie?
I know how to use them in iDVD but they do not seem the same in iMovie. Not as easy to edit or configure. Unless I am misunderstanding something.
Can someone help me with this one? Not in any of my manuals. Much appreciated.

the iM theme's drop zones are 'as is'; if you drag a portrait-sized foto into a landscape-sized drop-zone, for sure some parts are 'chopped' ...
e.g. the Road Trip/Chapter has a square drop zone as No. 1...
prepare your fotos in a pic processor (PhotoshopElements, Graficconverter, Gimp, ....) to get control about the cropping...

I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported
and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
I shoot with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera has been set to deliver HD quality (1920x1080). But I have accidentally filmed with a frame rate of 60 (?).
When I import the films in iMovie I have been asked if I want to change to frame rate 30 (instead of 25). I have chosen 30.
Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

  • Old Themes - 'Portfolio B&W' - Menu Toggle is WACKY

    Hello Hello
I'm using FCEHD, and have created 4 DV clips that I exported into the Movies Folder.
I've tried repeated to create a properly functioning Menu and it's not going well .....
I'm using an Old Theme template called: B&W Portfolio
I drag the clips into the template and when I try to adjust and edit the Menu Buttons (using preview), I can't get the up-right-left-bottom toggle functions to work properly. And of course this malfunction is transfered onto a burned disc. The remote control on the DVD player also gets SCREWY
What the heck could be going on??
Guess I'll try using a different Menu Template, but it seems (I've already discovered), that the other templates that don't have the motion thumbnail style, seem to respond correctly (toggle correctly)
    Ummm??

Hi and thank you for your reply
The problem is that at least ONE of the thumnail images
(buttons), cannot be reached easily. Cannot be accessed by the remote control button. It does seem I can pretty much get three of them to work properly, but I can't get to the 4th button to work.
Let me try to be very specific:
As I mentioned, I would prefer to use the template called 'B&W Portfolio'. I would love to be able to drag 4 movie clips into the template. The template itself is designed for a maximum of 5 movie clips, so this SHOULDN'T be a problem.
Everytime I try to rearrange the buttons, to try to get them to work properly, it seems that NO matter what configuration I try, (using the 'free-style' technique),
the buttons will NOT respond in the correct manner.
The controls will NOT toggle over to at least ONE particular button, (one particular thumnail).
And this is reflected in both the 'preview control', and on the actual burned disc.
    It's frustrating ....
And as I said, this problem doesn't seem to appear on the other template types, (especially the templates that do not have the moving thumnails - previews).
    Help

  • Can you edit an existing theme in imovie?

I like the existing themes in imovie, but I would like to edit them to include my logo (ie. like the CNN iReport rather than a map of the world), how would I do that?  If I cannot edit an existing them, how do I make my own?  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

There is an active iMovie forum here, and on it I would expect you would get very good responses to your question.
