You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If the other music is not on the iPod or on the computer you will have to get it from where you obtained it the first time.

No. I have quite a few more 16,000, so I don't manually manage. Making playlists for each device makes things much easier to organize. You can create regular lists of essential tracks and smart playlists to automatically catch new content, top rated, most played etc. If you'd done it this way all along configuring a new or restored device would be the work of moments.

  • Says over 25,000 songs when I'm not...

I have used Match successfully for while, but since the new update I have an issue.  I'm weird and still buy everything on CD, and I have a couple thousand, so I used to keep more than 25,000 songs in my library, but with the limit I keep it around 24,800.  Whenever I've bought a new CD, I've deleted some from iTunes that I don't listen to as much to make room for the new stuff.  When I used to delete tracks/albums, iTunes would give me a pop-up with a check box for "also delete this song from iCloud" (or something like that).  Now it just says "you are deleting this file from all your devices"... which it doesn't do... it deletes it from my library and on my main computer's iTunes, but not from the cloud, so they remain on my devices.  This then means that I can't add new songs because they take me over 25,000. Even though the deleted songs are deleted from the actual library, they remain in the cloud and prevent me from adding new additions.
Any help on how to get these deleted songs out of the cloud to add new ones would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've not been able to resolve my issue.  I have deleted songs from iTunes and from my computer completely, and I am under 25,000 songs, yet it says I'm over.  At the same time, Match is not updating.... playlists and albums I've deleted from my computer and the cloud remain on my devices etc.  Help is appreciated.

  • Over 25,000 songs...

I have well over 25,000 songs in my iTunes library (45,000 actually).
Can iTunes Match capture at least the allowed 25,000 songs from my library, instead of none?
If so, is there a way I can select which songs from my library get pushed to the cloud on iTunes Match?
    Thanks!

  • How does one get iCloud if they have over 25,000 songs?

I have over 35,000 songs in my iTunes account, is there anyway that I can use the iCloud?  Everytime I try, it tells me that I need to have 25,000 songs or less.

    iCloud has no such limit.
iTunes Match has a limit of 25,000 songs but iTunes purchases do not count towards that limit.

  • I have backed my iTunes with over 10,000 songs on a hard drive and than i reset my computer to factory settings, when i put it back on my macbook pro only 2030 were able to be downloaded back to the same computer

i have backed my iTunes with over 10,000 songs on a hard drive and than i reset my computer to factory settings because my email was hacked, when i downloaded the music back to my macbook pro only 2030 were able to be downloaded . how can i download all my music back?
    michel p.

I usually err on the sideof caution when someone says "downloaded" and take it to mean anything fro actually downloaded, to copies, to imported, to moved (frolder to folder), but even if they were "downloaded"... if the old email was hacked, and subseuqently closed out, that leaves the downloaded files "orphaned" if you will, belonging to the old ID. So, while they may be on the HD, they're inaccessible now.
One of the biggest reasons I NEVER keep anything in my library with DRM employed in it.  I bought it. I own it. I'm not going to get locked out of it.

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?

[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • I joined itunes match. I had over 1,000 songs.  Now I have 298.  Where did they go?

You can only sync with one computer. When you synced to the new computer it would have erased it and synced what was on the new computer.
You always need to have a backup, an iPhone is not a storage device.
When you get a new computer you need to transfer your library before syncing
If you don't have a backup you may be out of luck
The only thing would be if you're in the US and have access to the iCloud beta to reload purchases

Restore your library from a recent / current backup.  If you've failed to maintain a backup of data you obviously regard as valuable, see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

When I want to randomly play (shuffle) all my songs, it seems that the same songs are being played. I've got over 13,000 songs loaded - it seems to me that I shouldn't be getting any repeats. I unrated all the songs, thinking this might affect how often a song gets picked to play. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hello there, RJ Quick.
I've located the following Knowledge Base article that might be the information you're looking for:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12165
The following section may be of help:
Change where imported files are stored
Choose iTunes > Preferences and click Advanced.
Click Change and select a new location for your files. From now on, new songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. Songs you’ve already imported stay in their current location. To go back to storing imported files in the iTunes folder, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and click Reset.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

This article is vague and unhelpful. My iTunes needs help from a pro.
I have over 120,000 songs -- NO movies, TV, radio, or books...
I have other programs which efficiently run things which are not audio-based.
So why can I not get iTunes working well?? It now takes at least 10 secs for any operation to be completed!
That is just plain evil. But I am sure I could do something to help.
All the music is on an 2T external drive.

TS1717 as noted in the thread title...
Brigancook, is the library database on the external or just the media? iTunes reevaluates smart playlists and rewrites its database after every action on the library. I've found this can make a library half that size, with a lot of smart playlists, quite sluggish. That said I'm aware part of my problem is aging hardware. Having the database on the internal drive may improve performance if it is currently on the external.
I'd expect to see an exponential relationship between size and response time which may explain what you see. Cutting down on the number of smart playlists might help. If we're really lucky the long awaited iTunes 11 might have streamlined some of the background processes as well as cleaning up the front end.

I have two iTunes libraries I need to merge.  Both contain over 34,000 songs, so I cannot do it manually.  Is there an easy way to do this?

Drag the media folder from one over to an open iTunes window.  Go away and have a long lunch.  Of course if you have a lot of common content you will be spending your next vacation sorting out the duplicates.  Oh, you can search the Internet because I am sure somebody has some wonder tool that purportedly prevents duplicates, not that I would trust any automated method.  I always deal with duplicates one by one.
Consolidating Multiple iTunes Libraries - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/consolidating-multiple-itunes -libraries-api1/ - Basically using consolidate/organize to make sure all your media are in one place, then copying media from a second library to the main one by simply adding the media as new files.
Commercial software that purportedly helps merge libraries (not a complete list, nor have I tried any of them):
    http://supersync.com/
    PowerTunes - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powertunes/ (commercial software)
