Lost paper and color option after Os X installation

Hello,
in order to work with "the Gimp" I have installed X11 application yesterday on my iMac, not the best think I have done but... Os X reinstalled box version of my iMac 20" and then upgraded automatically to X.4.11, with all security, java, quicktime upgrades.
This morning I wanted to print with my Photosmart 8050 but no printing drivers where found. so I reinstalled it, once with printer connected with USB the other without.
Conclusion, same issue, I have in my printing menu, no way to change aper settings nor color setting, it look like a standard windows. Moreover, there is a strikedthrough item called "HP Photosmart PDE", when I click on it it says "this application is not compatible with your computer, ask your printer vendor to give you a good version." and it prints bellow "3.1" twice.
I have read in main post that 3.3 version of driver is included in Mac Os 10.4, so whats going up? Why my system was not able to find the printer from scratch after refresh this morning, why isn't there any better version than 3.1 in HP's web site? When I ask for an update in HP, it says there is not update for my system.
I trashed pref, restarted several time, refresh printing spool, reinstalled several time, but still nothing help in choosing paper or color like before.
I can still print without any control of previous item, .... but this is not the best of work. fortunately it is a home desktop... and I am not printing everyday, but...it is new year's time, and I have to print the card....
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for our answer, I have looked through the forum and haven't found any answer, unfortunately. I installed driver with both unconnected and off printer.
What bothers me a little is that I have a hard time to understand where this driver is sitting on my hard drive, to check what driver version exists.

when I install it from HP it says 3.1...

HELP! - Finding Specific Emails and Color options??

Hi..
Is there a way to group emails from a specific soure or with a specific heading etc (eudora does this for example by highlighting one and hitting option/command together-which then groups all emails in your box with the same source, title etc.)..and pull then all together in your in boxes..?
also is it possible to change the background color ( like Eudora) in Mail to something other than white? if so , how??...
and are their any other (other than fonts) way to improve the "look" of Mail?

P.S. and other tricks and insights to get me away from EUDORA (which I love ) woudl be appreciated...

1. Does the WiFi icon in preferences have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point?
2. Do you have physical access to the Airport router?
3. WiFi through local cable company - does that mean you have a Cable company device which also has WiFi built-in AND also have an Airport router?
4. Under About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> Network, do you see any wifi adapters? Usually a grey wifi icon in the menu bar implies that it has been turned off. If you Turn Wifi On in System Preferences -> Network -> WiFi, does the menu bar icon show you any change in the wifi icon?

Lost wallpaer and dock icon after boot

Sometimes during boot a fray bar appears, like when I update EFI and after boot I have lost wallpaer and dock icon.
In that case I have to reboot and during boot the gray bar does not appear and I get my wallpaper back but the dock is empty.

Did you remove the preferences folder or the preferences within that folder from /Users/Home/Library? If you have not then perhaps something has happened to your drive/directory that seems to have affected only that part of your system - unlikely but possible. Do you have a backup?
I don't know how SuperDuper works having never used it but can you recreate your backup sets from the backups themselves?

Lost bootcamp windows disk partition after mountain lion installation

Greetings all!
So I've had Bootcamp (windows 7 and snow leopard, 125gb of hard drive storage on each) on this MacBook Pro (late 2010) for over 2 years and I decided to upgrade to mountain lion.
As we all know that we can partition the disk under windows into smaller volumes, often labeled as C:, D:, E:, etc. my friend divided the hard drive storage for Windows into C: and G: when I first had windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2 years ago.
The problem emerged after I installed mountain lion couple days ago. I'm still able to choose the system I want it to run after i press and hold "option" key and it will log on windows without any problem. My windows desktop looks the same as what it was before installing. HOWEVER, my partition G: totally disappeared! Partition C: remains the same. I'm pretty sure that G: is still somewhere in the hard drive because the system tells me that out of 125GB of storage for windows, 50GB is used, which is the size of C:, and available is only 10GB! So the difference of about 60GB must have been taken by the lost partition G:. I tried searching specific files that I have in G: under windows but it returned me no results. So I'm thinking it might be virtual somewhere. The files in G: are very important to me, so I'm looking for help/suggestions here to restore that partition by all means.

Ok, I just found a way out this nightmare. The problem is that for a unknown reason, the password has to be entered as if it had been originally entered on a US keyboard layout (QWERTY)... So I had to find which keys I would have stroke if I had entered my password on a US keyboard thinking it was a FR one (AZERTY).

Lost library and playlistgs/smartlists after upgrade

I just downloaded the latest itunes and have lost about one third of my library and all play lists and smart lists. poof! I have searched the hard drive and all of the music is there in the music folder (including that which was not included in the library after the upgrade - why wasn't it all put back in?). So my questions are: (1) Is there any way to retrieve the smartlists and play lists? (2) How do I get all of my music from the music folders into the library?

I'm having the same problem on iphone4. All my contents on my iphone 4 are lost after I upgraded it to ios 5.1.1. That is includding my contacts too.
Every time I connected my iphone4 back to Itunes. It showed a pop-up menu said " Itunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iphone, would you like to restore this iphone again now?" but when I clicked "continue restore" button. It showed another pop-up menu said "an error occurred while restoring this iphone(-50)." Please see the pictures at below.
I think all the backup contents are still there. I have googled about this problem. I found many people has suffered this, but I couldn't find any solution.

Lost Windows 7 boot option after creating new partition

First of all im new to Mac os.
i have installed windows 7 using boot camp and after it i tried to create a new partition from the main mac partition and it was created successfullly however now the windows 7 boot option is not available for some reason.
how can i have this option back?

You broke it by adding the extra partition, remove Boot Camp (read the directions as to how) and start again. Do not add partitions next time.
Do not use Disk Utility to remove the Boot Camp Partition, use it to remove any extra partitions.
Backup your machine now.

Under the tools tab and configuring options after it will not close by clicking 'OK' button but have to x out. thus nothing is saved

Hello, using firefox 6 . windows 7 . under the tools button click on options to try and configure after changing to my desired settings in this case it's my home page it allows me to apply but then it refuses to close the window by using the OK button and have to close the window by clicking on the 'X' out thus not saving my changes. HELP please?

Lost Designer "new connection" option after fix pack install

Hi ! everyone,
I'm new in BOXIR2 and need all the help anyone can give me.
The problem is ; after updating to the lasted Service Pack and correspondent Fix ( SP3 ; FP3.3 ), the Designer "create new connection option" doesn't work.
Is there a solution besides removing the updates?

Sounds like the install of the patch either failed partially or you ran into a bug. Open a case with support (deployment team) and see if they can reproduce. I tested on FP 3.4 and it works fine.

3rd party brightness and color options for quicktime?

I have quicktime Pro. Unfortunately, my graphics card on my ibook 12 inch does not support the video options on A/V controls.
I'd like to change the brightness and/or the colors of some of the movies I watch as sometimes they are rather dark or muted.
On the pro version, I can't do this ( why? I don't know. Isn't it PRO?). I know there are other viewers like VLC that can but I don't want to have to use that because I like the clarity of quicktime.
Are there any solutions to this problem? Maybe some third party add on that I can buy?

Depends somewhat on the TV you have in mind.
If a new HDTV you may have choice of HDMI (or DVI), component and composite inputs. Of course, some of those inputs may already be committed to cable, DVD, satellite, etc.
If you have a wi-fi network you might even want to look into Apple TV; a friend was very enthused by his when we had breakfast together this morning.

Lost audio and slowed video after changing to WIN 8

Apparently there were drivers to correct this issue from conexant high defintion audio 220. Is there any chance that drivers will be updated? And video has slowed down by 4 times.

Did you use the Microsoft Compatibility Center for Windows 8 . before you upgraded to Win 8?

Basically it says
HP provides upgrade instructions and drivers for most computers sold after October 1st , 2011.

You may have to go back to Win 7, on the other hand you can try to load Win 7 drivers on Win 8, does not always work though.

Lost albums and triple items after archive & install

Hopefully, I can write this so it is understandable.
First of all, I had a similar problem to some I have read here when I transferred my photos from my old G4 to my new imac, I found I had lots of those nasty grey boxes with the question marks. I did find that the originals were there, just in another roll but it happened to many different photos with no apparent connection. But.....I recently had a problem with my new imac and we had to do an archive and install...
Well, now I no longer have the grey boxes...(at least I don't think so) but I lost all my albums and I now have 30,500 items when I originally had only 10,000. (that is why I am not sure about the grey boxes, because I have not been able to open every photo)
It appears that I have all the originals, the modified, and the thumbnails showing up in the main library. I have iphoto library manager and when I open the only other library thru photo manager, it retained the albums in that one!!!
My concern is that I don't want to go in and start deleting photos and somehow screw up the whole library. I can always redo the albums, that is not the biggest problem. But 30,500 items to go through???? Not sure what to do next.

Although not recommended, it can be changed, but as you have seen, there are consequences if not done correctly.

Chrome and Safari image alignment and color problems after upgrading to 10.8

I have just upgraded from lion to mountain lion with a clean install. My website davidandora.com now displays image sliced improperly aligned in chrome and with slightly adjusted colors on some slices in Safari. They appear fine in the same version browsers on Macbook also running the most current mac OS. I suspect this is not a browser problem since there are issues with both browsers, but what could be causing this? I have run all updates on my computer and browsers.

Windows XP Pro Desktop - Screen Resolution and Color Quality - After Palm 6.2 Installation for Palm TX

Recently upgraded my Palm software to 6.2. for my TX. Now when I sync to Outlook, my windows desktop reverts to lower quality screen resolution (640 x 480 pixels) and lower color quality (8 bit).
I then make the necessary display changes for my windows desktop back to higher quality screen resolution (1280 x 800 pixels) and highest color quality (32 bit). Everything is fine until I sync again or shut down the computer and restart, causing the windows desktop to revert back to the lower quality screen.
Any thoughts on possible solutions to this annoying problem.

Hello!
First thing to do is to update the display driver for your computer. Also make sure to use 96 DPI for the DPI setting, using another setting can cause this issue too.
