Lost password Trying to reset admin. password. Help, please!

I'm trying to reset the administer password on my ibook g4 because for the life of me I can't remember my password! I've followed the advice posted below and come to a screen that is black with foreign languages on the bottom of the screen. That as far as it will go. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you to whoever can help me.
Resetting the original administrator account password
Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account (of several) needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, the original administrator user may reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install CD (one whose version is closest the the version of Mac OS X installed). You should first disable Open Firmware password protection, if it is enabled. Hold the C key as the computer starts.
Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the CD yet.
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Set the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a normal administrator account.
Enter a new password.
Click Save.

Absolutely! That is causing the problem!
That is a Model Specific disc, and probably not version Panther 10.3.x, and will not work.
You can call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, and with the Serial Number of the iBook G4, you can order a replacement set, of the original system discs.
If you have the Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, you should also be able to use that.

Mail and password: Help please!!!

I have changed my password and on my iPhone and iPad there is no problem. However, on my iMac, 10.8.2 every time I put the computer to sleep and then wake it up again Mail tells me to verify my password. I press OK but it refuses to accept and I am forced to go to System Preferences, then mail where I press OK for the same password and the whole thing then works.
In Yahoo it works perfectly!
What is happening in Mail. I have deleted the account in preferences and set it up again but all to no avail.

You might try the following steps:
Restart the device by holding down the on/off button until the power down slider appears.
Try entering your password in another location (i.e. when you are using a different wifi network)
Reset all settings (settings > general > reset), this resets some of your settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It does not remove any of your data.
Try signing out of iCloud and back in (only if find my phone is disabled)
If this doesn’t help your best option may be to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

Let's ensure you are doing the reset process correctly.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.

Ideally you need to boot from the disk as you have no other media advisable. (e.g your hard drive)
Without some form of system disk or restore you wont be able to diagnose the problem with your hard drive.
By using a Mac OS X system disk you can load up the Disk Utilities and repair the hard drive if shown it's available. If it's not available you would need to replace the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS. Without any disk to support you, you are going to struggle.
You can obtain replacement disk, both retail copies or system disk on the Internet.
If you know what version of Mac OS X you had install (I'm guessing that it would have been 10.3, but would recommend 10.4) A retail disk is normally black with a colored 'X' on it, while system disk are always.
Always try and obtain a copy of the system restore disks (Gray) for your iBook
Ebay is another outlet that has genuine system disk for sell, but like any auction site, it's as and when someone is selling them.
The only other thing you could do is take it to a Apple repair agent who could check the hard drive on your behalf. That way you can get confirmation if the problem is the drive or some other fault. They may even help restore the OS for you.
I can't think of anything else to try without some form of disk to help you.
There maybe just one other small thing you could try.
When booting up, firmly rest your palm of your hand on the iBook next to the tracker pad on the left side.
If it works then it's another fault that I'm aware of.

Video lost because phone rang... Help please!

Airport extreme hub -- lost password help

My husband set up our new Airport Extreme a few weeks ago and things worked fine. The device recognized our printer, and we had no issues -- other than the scanner didn't work with the printer.
I resolved the print issue by downloading a new driver, but when I did that (it required removing all printer info from the computer and then doing a clean install), the reinstall wiped our printer out of the Airport Extreme configuration.
No biggie. I'd run the Airport Extreme share-USB-printer procedure again.
No go. My husband either mistyped or cannot remember the password to the hub, so not only can I not upgrade the Airport Extreme, I can't do anything with it. At all.
Does anyone know what I should do? I'm an admin on this computer, so I should be able to do what's necessary; I just don't know what that is.
I am also a new Mac user (new in December, after decades on a PC), so a resolution isn't coming readily to mind, and I would appreciate any help I can get. We only bought a service plan for our iMac, so the apple store wasn't much help, either.

I just discovered the Airport Extreme user guide online, and I think I have what I need. Apparently I can reset the system with a paper clip. Of course I can't find a single paper clip in the house. <sigh>

Admin password help please

I've recently purchased a 2003 G3 iBOOK. For genuine reasons I do not have the Admin password or any of the start up discs.
I want to upgrade the OS and without the password it seems impossible. Are there ways around passwording and will I need a disc? Where would one buy a disc if required?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Assuming it is an OS 9 Multiple Users password, you will need to find a disk to which the machine can boot.
Boot to the CD; open the System Folder on the hard drive, go into the Preferences folder and locate the file named Multi-User Prefs. Throw that file away and empty the Trash. Then do a normal restart.
A 2003 iBook G3 came with both OSX and OS 9 - it is bootable to either; however, as far as OS 9 goes it can use only the version that came on the disk set that originally shipped with it. The minimum version of OSX that it can use is the version that originally shipped with it, OSX 10.2.something (the exact version depends upon the specific model iBook); it can use any later version retail OSX package (10.3 or 10.4).
You can often get replacement original disks from Apple's Customer Support, by phone.

If you have forgotten the password to to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. Winston's comment applies if you have an iPhone which you bought second-hand and it is asking for an Apple ID (it will show it partially) which you don't recognize as yours.

Corrupted .rar file / incorrect password (help please)

hi there,
i have been sent several .rar video files and usually have no problem expanding them. i generally use Rar Expander and UnrarX. this time however, half-way through the expansion, it always stops, saying the password is incorrect or the file is corrupted. whilst it is being expanded i can watch the file up until the half-way point by locating it in finder. my mate has constantly tried uploading and sending me the file that seems to be corrupted but it's always the same issue. is there a way i can start the expansion after the corrupted file so i can see the other half of the file or expand each file individually. i also have VLC Rar Loader but for some reason I can't open this individual files in this either. please help, i would greatly appreciate.

Consecutive rar files cannot be opened individually. So if you have 10 .rar files, and the 5th one is broken, you can only view items in .rar files 1~4, and parts of 5 if you're lucky.
Sorry, but that's how split compression works. You miiight be able to fix it using some special tool, but I don't know of any that works if the resulting file is supposed to be one giant video file.
In all honesty, you would be better off re-downloading from their origins.
