Lost photos around 10,000 from 2003 - 2008

I am desperate!!! I was so fed up with opening up iphoto and the beachball from **** spinning around for hours while my 10,000 photos were loading that I decided to dump everything up to 31 December 2007 onto my hard drive, and delete them from the current library. I transferred the folders, and lo and behold, the new library (renamed as instructed in support) opened very quickly with the one photo I took in 2008. Hooray. However... I have to make a photo album for my 5 adopted children's birth parents, showing them how they have grown over the last year. There is nothing on the hard drive, and NOTHING ON THE MAC. Oh My God, I seem to have completely erased every single photo from 2003 to date. HELP ME PLEASE. I cannot take fake pics of the kids for the birth parents and I want them for myself too, as I was in the process of making an album, and it has all gone. My husband says nothing has ever really gone, and it can be retrieved if I know how (he is a pc guy so what does he know?) Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'm pretty sure your photos are save inside the iPhoto Library package. You can Control-click on the package and select the Show Package Contents Option. Then look inside the Originals folder to verify that your photos are in the subfolders.
You can try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. I'm not confident this will work but it's worth a try.
Next try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
Lastly if the above don't resurrect your library you'll have to start over with a new library and import the originals folder from the old one as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
To make it easy to recover from this type of problem, damaged/corrupted database file, in the future see the tip at the end of my signature.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Lost Photo or Picture Folder from my Home folders

Hi: I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2 and after re-booting. I went to open up iPhoto and all of my albums with the photo were gone. I see within the 'Search for" All images folder the photos in them. But the iPhoto album file is lost. How can i restore them?
    Thanks.

Can you see any pics in the iPhoto Window?
If not: Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Lost photos during a restore from backup on iPhone 4

This evening I lost important photos taken this past weekend when I tried to restore text messages to my iPhone 4. I didn't sync my phone prior to performing the restore. My last back-up was on 6/12. I restored everything from 6/12 and before, but lost everything from 6/13 and on. Can my photos be located and restored to my phone?

Why not? If old data is recovered by restoring, then new data after last back up lose. If keep new data after last back up remain, lost old data can't be regained, even may be user's lack of knowledge, iPhone should not be for the people of one class...I am really sad for all who suffer the lost of their hearts (valuable data that can never be recalled) like me. How can I continue to use idevices?????

  • Lost photos while copying them from iphone to PC

Last night, while I was copying photos from my iphone to my pc via windows explorer, two out of four folders suddenly göne from the phone.
I could cut/copy the contents of two folders and then pasted them to a folder in my PC. Then I tried to see the contents of the remaining two folders. Although they were still in the phone memory, windows couldn't open or copy them. I did a restart and there were only 6 old photos plus one video in the memory. When I try to play the video, it says "The requested URL was not found on this server." and can not open it. Anybody with a similar experience? I don't have the copies of most of the photos and I need to recover them via one way or another.

You can retrieve your iTunes store purchases from the iPhone to the computer. Connect the iPhone, select the FILE menu in iTunes and select "Transfer Purchases".
You will not be able to retrieve anything you have ripped from CDs.

  • I am trying to transfer my photos from old mac to new mac.  I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!  What happened?

And how do I turn off FACES?

I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!
According to you youo did not do what I instructed - you said you imported the old library into th enew library which can easily take a 2000 photo library and turn it into 12,000 including two ro three versions of each photo pus all the face thumbnails
The correct procedure has NO importing involved
drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac
    That is it

  • Can I move photos around in iPad?  There are some photos in camera roll, are those the ones I took with iPad?  Then there are some that are imported-I guess those are the ones from my camera.  Can I combine them into different albums?  Thanks

Can I mover photos around in iPad?  There are photos on the camera roll-are those the ones I took with iPad?  Then there are the ones labeled as imported-I guess those are the ones I took with my camera?  Can I combine pictures from both into one album?  Thanks.

At the moment no, you cannot move photos between albums in the Photos app directly on the iPad - but with iOS 5 (which will be free to download) in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device.

  • I bought a new Mac Pro from an Apple store, it was sold as factory sealed, but it's reconditioned - it has some strangers entire photo, library from 2003 to 2011 in the trash bin.

. I bought a new Mac Pro from an Apple store 2 days ok, it was sold as factory sealed, but it's reconditioned - it has some strangers entire photo, library from 2003 to 2011 in the trash bin.
I was bought a Mac book pro as a birthday gift from the Apple Store in Leicester, after completing the initial set up procedure, I noticed that  the trash bin was full of some one's entire photo collection from 2003 to 2011.
This is entirely unacceptable for Apple: How long have Apple been fobbing of consumers who believe they were genuinely purchasing a 'new' Mac book?
How is it that I have someones entire photo collection on my 'branch new Mac Book Pro' - these photos included wedding photo's, birthday celebrations, family celebrations and children. Its a serious breach of data protection, it's an invasion of some poor persons privacy and private photo collection. What concerns me the most, is what could have happened if those photo's had fallen into the wrong hands. We managed to trace, locate and contact the person who the photo's belong to within 10 mins using information taken from their wedding album.
Understandably these people are also very distressed that their personal photos are on my brand new Mac Book pro.
I would like details of who to contact in regards this incident.

  • How can I find a group of lost photos from iPhoto?

When a recent Mac OS X update was installed on my computer which included the new Photo App, my iPhoto upgraded to this new app and was replaced by it on my desktop. In beginning to use the new Photo App, I discovered that it did not have the same editing functions as my iPhoto did. I decided then to go back to iPhoto, but when I opened up my iPhoto I realized in my album list that I had lost about a year’s worth of photos all the way back to the middle of 2013. I then decided to restore my computer to an earlier time using Time Machine so that hopefully my iPhoto would be restored with all of its photos. I went ahead and did this and had to do a rebuild of my iPhoto library to recover the lost photos. When I did this, I was not aware, that I had still lost some other photos out of albums from early September 2014. Before I was aware of this, I also erased my external hard drive and then did a backup because I kept getting messages in my computer that the computer could not do additional back up’s because there was not room on the external hard drive.
Earlier today, I tried to retrieve some photos out of albums from that. In early September 2014 and found that the album listed the photo number but there was no thumbnail and when I clicked on the photo it just brought up a silver triangle on black with an exclamation point in the middle indicating that that photo could not be found. I did a command option press and opened up iPhoto and I completed all of the various rebuilding and restoring options all the way up to and including restored iPhoto database. When I had completed all of this I found that I was still missing those photos, several hundred. I am wondering if these photos are still on my hard drive someplace. I could not restore them from the external hard drive because I had erased earlier backup versions, as I indicated. Is it possible for me to find and restore these photos? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.-MP

You created a mess and there is no solution - with the actions you have taken those photos are gone unless you have access to them from some other source - they existed in two place - in your iPhoto library and on your backup drive - you have traded the backup drive and restore an earlier iPhoto library so all you have is what you have

I was looking for something on the net, and i run into this post. Am not sure if you have found a soulution or not, anyways, if not here are some programs that i love and they show you every thing in your iPhone:
    iFunBox, iBackupBot and DiskAid
am sure they will help you find what you want and then you can just copy them to your computer.
if you use Mac, iPhoto will import everything for you.

  • Lost photos from iphoto library

I backed up my iphoto library from my old macbook to an external hard drive and now imported it to my new imac. When I open iphoto all thumbnails show up, but when I click on a photo a black picture with an exclamation mark shows up. Some photos open fine, most won't.
I tried rebuilding iphoto with iphoto's own rebuild and with iphoto library manager, both with same results: only 2000 of my 9000 photos showed up!
I did have a problem when first time trying to move files from the external hard drive - Lacie 1tb usb- once it was unplugged without first being ejected, and also it made my computer crash few times and I had to reboot the imac. I suspect this had something to do with the lost photos.
Is there a way to get these photos back?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The photos should still be in the library package file.
You may need to start over with a new Library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'

  • Iphoto 8.1.2 crashed while deleting  photos (7,000) from my iphone and the photos disappeared from iphone and iphoto

First i imported my photos to iphoto 8.1.2 when it finished, asked me if i want to "delete them from the camara"  i clicked yes and crashed while deleting  photos (7,000) from my iphone and the photos disappeared from iphone and iphoto

No early version of iPhoto can open a Library from a later version.
You can try revert the Library with iPhoto Library Manager

  • Why did my iPhoto library balloon from 3,500 photos to 53,000 photos?

I had to repair my drive. I exported my library to another drive. When I imported my iPhoto library back to my repaired drive, my library ballooned from 3,500 photos to 53,000 photos. There's hundreds and hundreds of duplicates. Pictures with just faces from whole pix and cryptic names under the photos. I included a screenshot. My whole iphoto library is messed up. If you have any ideas on how I can get rid of the duplicates that would be awesome!

    Why? Because of this:
When I imported my iPhoto library back to my repaired drive...
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
So, trash your this library and next time simply move the library to the Pictures Folder and then open iPhoto.
