Lost photos due to Image Capture Import Error

Hi.. I lost my hundreds of precious photos taken during my vacation during the import process using Image Capture.
I took hundreds of photos in my iphone 5s during my vacation. I came back and haven't started the iphone backup yet which was my first mistake.  I then used Image Capture in my MacBook Pro to transfer the photos from 5s camera roll to a folder in my macbook.  I checked the option "Delete After Import" which was my second mistake!
During the transfer, it successfully transferred some of the photos but over half of them were not.  There was errors after the import process so those error out pictures were not found neither in my Macbook nor in my iphone.
I tried different recovery tool to scan my iphone or my macbook but still no luck.  Can you one of you give me some help on this?  What else can be done to recover the lost picture.  A million million thanks to you all in advance!

Same thing happened to me. I tried using iPhoto to back up over 8,000 photos. Unfortunately, I kept getting an error at around 3,000 and had to start over several times. After restarting my macbook, I was able to get further but after around 1,000 to go, the error popped up again! Hours! So I chose Image capture to get everything. I too selected 'delete after copying' to avoid having to delete 8k pics manually. After it was done, I was alerted that some photos could not be copied. When I checked the folder, only 4k pics were there! Where's the other 4k? On top of that, my phone which is over capacity still shows over capacity and has about 600 files with missing icons on them. Not sure what to do. Curious if a restoration of the phone will bring it all back.

  • 10.8 - image capture - "import to" does not allow to select a program

    Hi,
after updating to 10.8 I was hoping that my problem with 10.7.4 and Image Capture would be solved but it persist and additionaly has removed all my setings.
When Image Capture shows the pictures of my iPhone I select some pictures and go to "Import To Other".
That will open the "Open" dialog with all Programs/Applications on my Mac, but all Programs/Applications are grayed out.
Until 10.7.3 one was able to select any program to send the pictures to it like Evernote, ExifRenamer, etc.
Anyone else has the same issue?

  • Image Capture sends error message when importing photos from my camera

I tried to import photos from my Fuji FinePix JX600 using Iphoto. Received an error notice and was unable to import. Tried Image Capture and it imported 220 of 407 pictures and then sent an error notice. Very frustrated. It's a new camera and I never had any problem with my old camera. Can anyone tell me what the issue may be and how to resolve it?
    Thanks

    Good afternoon
There seem to be a number of possibilities.
Here is a thread that conatins a number of solutions.  The most common one is to load 50 pics at a time.

  • HT1349 Suddenly both my husband and I cannot import photos from our iPhones (4) to our Mac (10.6.8) - error unrecognisable file - these files are .jpg. I have tried importing using Image Capture - same error.

I had a thought about any changes we may have both made recently - in The Camera settings we turned HDR off - because we had 2 images of the same photo.
Maybe the import is failing because of the duplicates

    I've managed to fix this.
After 3 attempts, Image Capture (instead of iPhoto) was finally able to pull my photos/video off my iPhone. There were a few shots missing, I'm guessing those were the "corrupt" ones. No idea how or why I could end up with corrupt images, the only shots on my phone were ones that I'd taken with my phone.
After that, I opened up Photos on my iPhone, selected every photo and every video and deleted them all.
Then I took a couple shots with the phone, re-opened iPhoto, and everything seemed to work dandy.
    Still. Lame.

  • Photos lost in transit from Image Capture to Iphoto

While importing photos from my Nikon CoolPix L22 camera, 50 or so vacation photos were lost during the transfer from Image Capture (the Nikon's default software) to iPhoto.
The photo's were all saved as Jpegs, and are now listed as .ipmeta. Help?

I had the same problem tonight with Image Capture and have been unable to recover my photos. I had it set to delete from the camera, so it appears they're simply gone. I read on another forum about a hidden folder, /private/tmp; I checked that and the images are not there (apparently they're only there until the camera is disconnected). This seems like a major bug that Apple needs to address; people have been having this issue for years.

  • Deleted duplicates from Image Capture import list, now the remaining singlets won't import

Hi I was importing my photos from my iPhone as per usual using Image Capture.  I saw there were duplicates in the window and deleted them 'permanently'.  I later tried to import the remaining singlets and they didn't exist! Now my iPhone only shows photos up until 2 weeks ago, and there's nothing in my trash folder, recently deleted folder on my iPhone, and nothing in my private/tmp folder from today.  Any help would be appreciated.  I can still see the images (name and details) I want to import that produce an import error in the Image Capture window and am afraid of unplugging my iPhone...

If you have iCloud backup turned on or if you have recently backed up via iTunes you could restore the phone from either of those sources. Camera Roll photos are included in those backups. Be aware that doing a restore will replace the contents of the phone with the contents of the backup so you would lose anything new on the phone since the last backup. • How to reorganize folders and photos based on image capture time

I made the mistake of not carefully importing pictures from iPhoto and now have a bit of a mess. My photos show up in the iPhoto Library folder with the year/month/day (when viewing the Lightroom navigator) but then they seem in almost random order. Lightroom doesn't show them under any year/month/date. Is there any way to get Navigator to organize them like it organizes my new imports ? (YYYY/MM/DD etc). I may or may not have lost much of my iPhoto metadata. I was hoping Lightroom could just go through all the pictures (mostly JPG's) and just use the capture time to build it's database.
I have one additional issue which is when I moved machines, Lightroom seems to have bad meta-data for many of my pictures. It's possible that i just put these photos in the wrong physical directory but again, I was hoping I could get Lightroom to just scan the image capture time and put the pictures back where they belong.

do other kinds of files ever show up in that folder or just those pdf files?
If the latter then it should be pretty simple. make a workflow consisting of a single action "print finder items" (or "print images") and save the workflow as a plugin for folder actions. then attach this folder action to the folder in question. to do that control-click on that folder in finder and go to more->attach a folder action.

  • Image capture import to dated folder

Is it possible to use the auto-import feature of Image Capture to create a created date folder to import the images into?
    Thanks in advance for responses!
    John

For other reasons I've turned off the auto rotate in my camera and rotate them before importing into iPhoto. A slick tool for that is PhotoToolCM, a contextual menu plugin that can do lossless rotations and EXIF data edits, capture dates, etc.
I'm not a professional but I've done a number of edits on a jpg which caused it to be slightly re-compressed each time and I've not seen any problems. Admittedly my largest prints have been 5x7 but it's not something I really worry about. Pros usually shoot RAW so they wouldn't be affected by jpg re-compression.
I am surprised at the amount of reduction you're getting. I've seen some modest size reductions due to editing but none as large as you've reported. I'm not getting any with my Canon. What camera are you using and what's the sensor size, i.e. MP? Do you find a difference is size between the landscape and portrait files?
If you're importing directly from the camera try using Image Capture on a bunch of test shots, both landscape and portrait, and upload to a folder on the desktop first. Then import that folder into iPhoto. You can then compare the size in the folder to the resulting sizes in the Original folder, unless you've already done it that way.

  • How to Get Photo Info in Image Capture?

I use Image Capture to download photos from my Sony digital camera. Is there a way to view some of the information about each image (such as date, file number, etc.) from within Image Capture prior to downloading the images? It seems that I am forced to go back to quit Image Capture and go back to my camera and view the image information there and then go back to Image Capture.
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

    Hello,
Setting view options in Image Capture:
You can view images and other items from your digital camera in Image Capture. You can see the items in icon view or list view. In list view, you can see information about each item, such as the date it was created, its size, and the exposure. You can specify which information gets displayed.
Connect your digital camera, and click Download Some.
    Choose View > as List.
Control-click any column header, and choose the columns you want to display.
Now, if you want, you can get iLife 06 and use iPhoto instead. You can set your default preferences so that either Image Capture or iPhoto launches when you connect your camera. But in iPhoto, once the images are downloaded to your Mac, you can see all the information in the bottom lefthand corner of the iPhoto window by simply selecting an image in your iPhoto library. It's so much more convenient then Image Capture. I use IC for scanning... that's about it.
If you need further assistance post back... and.. with Image Capture open, you can always click Help in the Menu top of your screen. If you don't find an answer there, just post here.

  • Does the new Photo app duplicate images on import (wasting drive space), or simply reference them like Picasa does?

Picasa simply references the original images, and any edits you make to the images leaves the original unharmed. This is the grown-up way to manage images. iPhoto and all, I really mean ALL other photo apps make this mistake of duplication of images on import - but not Picasa. I had iPhoto crash numerous times because it could not handle a large number of images. Picasa is way better than any Apple app thus far - so I'm wondering - does this new Photo app make the same mistake as all the others except Picasa? If it does duplication on imports, then it's doing it wrong.

Instead of instinctively condescending like a grouch, you could have simply replied with the right answer and made me look bad, instead you only made yourself look bad Terence The Devil.
The real answer is that there is an option in the preferences that allows one to select whether to copy images in or just reference them.
Under Importing all one has to do is Un-check the "Copy items to the Photos Library" setting.
The only issue I have at this point is that it should be un-checked as a default.

  • Images and videos corrupted during Image Capture import.

    Hi there.
I built up a collection of 600 images on my iPhone over the last few years and filled it up. I used Image Capture to move them to my Mac Pro, and allowed the software to delete them off the phone as it went.
I now have plenty of free space on the phone and 600 images on the Mac.
    BUT
The images are corrupted / truncated. I don't have any other copies and it would be awful to lose the whole lot. They each have bands of distorted colour or sections where it looks low-res or black & white. The videos are the same, lots of blocky static and jerky playback.
Other people have said on this forum you need to make sure the phone is connected to a USB socket on the back of the computer (I used the one on the back of the monitor) - so I will do that in future but is there anything I can do to rescue these files?
    Thanks,
    KaiBosh

    Hi Ingo,
Thanks very much for your advice.
I do use Time Machine so it's likely the majority of these pics have been backed up in iTunes on my laptop and the backup files have been backed up by TM. This is reassuring to know.
Looking in the MobileSync/Backup folder on the laptop, however, I find five folders with seemingly random names, each containing a list of files with random names. I do not have 'encrypt backup' activated in iTunes. Oddly, the newest of these folders is six months old, even though I have backed up the phone in the last few days.
How can I retrieve my photos from these files? If I Restore my iPhone, won't I lose what I've added in the last six months?
    Any suggestion VERY gratefully received.
    Thanks again,
    KaiBosh.

  • PST Capture Import errored: Complete with errors.

we did a migration from Exchange 2007 to 2010, we already have PST files and want to import them using PST Capture to the new Mailboxes in the new domain.
while importing we were faced with an error saying "Complete with errors, hresult e_fail has been returned from a call to a com component", in the IPM subtree.Any solution to address the problem?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Please double check whether the .pst files imported successfully (ignore the error message first).
If there is anything corrupt, I suggest remove the request and re-import it for testing.
Since I am not familiar with the PST Capture Tool, I suggest asking Script Center for help to get a script to perform the .pst files importing. For your convenience:

  • Lost photos due to incorrect sd card removal

Recently, some friends and I took a trip to Seabase, in Key Largo, Florida. The trip was awesome, and I took tons of photos. When I get home, I sync my sd card with my macbook pro and cleaned the card when the photos were imported; however, I forgot to eject the card, and simply pulled the card out of its socket. After that, all the photos disappeared, they're neither on iphoto nor on the sd card. Is there any way to recover the photos? I am desperate.

You say that you "sync my sd card with my macbook pro and cleaned the card when the photos were imported"...do you mean that you imported the photos into iPhoto and chose the option to delete the photos after import?
If so, then the photos are likely gone off the sd card (although they might appear in the trash when the card is mounted again...).  But they should be in iPhoto.  Have you launched iPhoto and checked the recent imports icon in the sidebar?  Or looked for a new event?  Sometimes the photos don't immediately appear in the all photos view and you have to switch to another view andback for it to refresh.

  • Lost photos when iphoto crashed during import

I downloaded 92 photos from my camera to iphoto 7.1.5, I deleted the photos on the camera at prompt, iphoto then crashed, and the imported photos did not appear in iphoto.   The previous import shows up as the latest import.

You can recover the files from the camera with an app like MediaRecover

  • I can't download photos from my canon 350d to my apple mac - even using i-photo (what's image capture). The card doesn't fit in the computer and I don't ave a card reader. Is there a simple solution?

Can anyone help? I'm trying to get the pictures off my canon 350d onto my i-mac (I've tried through i-photo).

Option 1: Download Canon's software. Attach the camera to the computer (USB A to mini B) and the software will ask where to download your photos.
Option 2: Buy a CF card reader.  I recently purchased a PIXELFLASH card reader for $16US.
