Lost photos in iPhoto? Please help?

My mac: OS X 10.8.2
My iphoto: iphoto '11 version 9.4.2
I uploaded some photos from my Canon eos 50D to iphoto. They were there that day, I was able to send a few to my friends and even watched the slideshow. So, they were definitely there.
However, today I checked the album again and they are gone. And funny how only 1 photo is left.
I checked the Masters folder and it's true that only that 1 photo is left in that folder.
I saw some other discussion about iphoto lost Canon photos.
Here are a few things I think may cause the problem:
     - I copied the iphoto library to a portable hard-drive ( WD elements ). When I connect the Canon camera to my Mac, I import the photos in the library that is IN that USB.  I even remembered import the photos in my Mac, then copy that album in the USB, then delete the original album on mac from the Trash folder. Does this permanently delete those?
     - I remembered reset the date on my camera. Does this make the previous photos change somehow, and iphoto couldn't recognize them by dates?
     - I do have back up on Time Machine, but I can't restore those lost photos using the back up.
Thank anyone if you can help me with this problem

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Lost photo's & music PLEASE HELP

    PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!!!!!!!
Long story but when I was playing music on itunes last week my Powerbook G4 froze. When I went to have a look I could not do anything. When the computer rebooted it would not accept my password and I was locked out.
After 2 hours on the phone to nick a lovely tech from apple, we have rebooted but I am not able to retreive information on our previous user name. I have lost 4.5 days of music and 850 photo's!!!! Devastation!!! He suggested I post to see if anyone had any ideas. When I go into my old user and try and open a file it says "no mountable file systems".
If anyone knows how I can try and retreive info please, please help me. Thanks

If Disk Utility gave a "no repairs needed" report, it almost clears the drives directory. I say almost, because often DiskWarrior finds problems that Disk Utility doesn't.
Worth a try, and in the link I placed under Disk Utility (above), is using fsck to check the disk.
Can you tell me what the file types were? I assume .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff and .mpeg4, .mp4, or .mp3....
Reason being, the error is often associated with .dmg (disk image) errors.
Also, because of the nature of the error message, there may be a way to mount the files using hdiutil. You can try and mount these files, in Terminal, from the command line using hdiutil, run as root:
$ sudo hdituil attach file name.dmg
Replace "file name.dmg" with the name of the file. This should properly mount the files, though I am having trouble getting it to work..........
Since I am still green when it comes to using Terminal (love to play, cause lots of problems, and learn as I go), if you would like to pursue this path, I would suggest checking this suggestion in the OS X Technologies: Unix forums. Post a question regarding mounting files that return the error "no mountable file systems", and see if someone will walk you through the process a bit better than I can.

  • Lost Photos-Feel Clueless-Please Help

Yesterday I uploaded some photos into iphoto. I looked at them by scrolling through the library and was able to double click on them for editing etc. Later in the day I changed cards in my camera and uploaded more photos. Again everything worked fine. Later on, I found the majority of the earliest batch of photos is completely missing. They appear in the library window but lack any corresponding file in the library folder, modifed folder or data folder. I can see in the iPhoto window that I have a photo called "IMG_ABC," for instance, but searching the computer turns up nothing for "IMG_ABC." In other words, I can see the thumbnail for the photos but all other records of them are lost. Any clues or ideas as to what I might have done or how to fix this? Sorry for the long post.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
They appear in the library window but lack any corresponding file in the library folder, modifed folder or data folder.
What happens when you double click on them in the iPhoto Window? Do they enlarge? Or do you get a ! or ? If you do get those symbols: The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents. The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
Alos, what happens if you right-click (or cnrtl-click) on one of the pics and Select 'Show File' from the menu that appears?

  • Does installing mavricks delete the photos in iPhoto please reply fast thanks.

im in the middle of installing mavricks after you restart your computer but I want to know if It delets your photos from iPhoto please help. And if it does how do I cancel the mavricks installation

    Hello Enzofranklin,
A Mavericks update should not remove any of your user data. BUT... things can go wrong and you should always have a backup. Do you have a backup? If not a Time Machine backup is very easy to set up. All you need is an external drive with enough space. This article has more info: Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
I don't have an install running in front of my to confirm this but I am pretty sure that you should have a restart option in the top left of the menu bar drop down choices. If you see the option to choose your start up disk, then choose Macintosh HD. You will need to back out of your install and log back into your machine normally to set up Time Machine.
    I hope this helps.

  • HT1414 I had a new phone and I clicked some pictures and then I restore my new phone with the old back up and I lost my new clicked photos...please help me how can I get back those photos?

I had a new phone and I clicked some pictures and then I restore my new phone with the old back up and I lost my new clicked photos...please help me how can I get back those photos?

You were already provided the answer. If you do not have a backup of the phone while the photos were on the phone, they are gone. When you restore your phone from an old backup, anything that has been saved to the phone since that backup is deleted. Sorry.

  • How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto?

How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto? Instead of photos I have dotted borders or, in a few cases white boxes.

You could try rebuilding the database ...
Launch iPhoto while holding down the Command + Option keys.
The Photo Library First Aid window should open.
    Select:  Repair Database
    Click:  Repair
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If you do not currently have a wawy to backup your iPhoto library, you need to do that so that you can recover your photos in the event of a hard drive problem.

  • I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk - I don't have any room left on my computer. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!  This is seriously frustrating!.
Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

  • I have a new laptop and have installed itunes onto it, but i am worried if i plug my iphone into it i will loose all my contacts apps and photos!! please help!!!

    hi there
i have just bought a new laptop and have installed itunes onto it but i am worried that if i plug my iphone into it, that i will loose all my apps, contacts and photos!!
    please help!!

I will try and be helpful unlike the the first two posters!!
When you say installed iTunes I am guessing that its just the program and not your old library? in which case when you connect your iphone you will get a message warning you that you will be replacing the data on the iphone with the library on the new laptop i.e. an empty itunes.
If this is the case what you need to do is on your old laptop,
1: open itunes and go into preference/settings and go to advanced and make sure that consolidate and keep         organised are checked.
2: Then go to file and click consolidate library.
3: close itunes and then go to start and open "My Music" folder.
4: Drag the iTunes folder out of My music and put it on an external drive or network the 2 laptops.
5: on the new laptop open "My Music" folder and drag out to the desk top the itunes folder
6: from the external drive or network drang and drop the old iTunes library into the "My Music" folder on the new    laptop.
now close it and restart iTunes and your old library should be visable and when you connect your iphone it will identify its the correct library to sync with.

  • When I try to open iPhoto it begins the process and then stops. It brings up a message that iPhoto has quit unexpectedly. Efforts to reopen it bring the same result. My timemachine has been accidentally turned off. I have 20,000 photos on iPhoto. Help!

When I try to open iPhoto it begins the process and then stops. It brings up a message that iPhoto has quit unexpectedly. Efforts to reopen it bring the same result. My timemachine has been accidentally turned off. I have over 20,000 photos on iPhoto. Help!

First, copy your iPhoto Library to an external so that you have a backup.
Second, see if you can create a new Library and have it open. To do this, open iPhoto while holding down the Option key. It will ask which Library to use, or allow you to create a new Library. Save the new library with a different name from the old one.
If that does open with a new library, the old library is corrupt, but all the files are still OK.
If it is a corrupt Library, iPhoto Library Manager can repair some corruption, or transfer the Library over to a new one.

  • Lost all photos in iPhoto! Help!

Help! All my old photos in iPhoto library have vanished! Recently, I imported some new photos from my Canon camera into my iPhoto library but prior to doing that an option box appeared and I can't remember the wording exactly but it asked me where I wanted to import the new photos into and I think I clicked make iPhoto library. And I just realised that all my older photos / events have disappeared. Only the new ones remain. I am an avid amateur photographer and have lost hundreds of invaluable photos that I took over the course of the last five years. If anyone can help me find my lost photos I would be so grateful. I use a MAC OS X desktop 10.6.8 and iPhoto version is 9.2.3 (629.52) Thank you.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Viewing photos from EXT drive in iPhoto, please help!

Is there any way to view my photos in iPhoto if I store some of them on an external drive (without having to copy them into the iPhoto library on the internal drive)?
There's a lot more room on my external drives and my computer is full; this would save me a lot of trouble but still keep them organized.

Is there any way to view my photos in iPhoto if I store some of them on an external drive (without having to copy them into the iPhoto library on the internal drive)?
Yes - but you need to move your iPhoto library to the external drive - iPhoto is not a photo viewer but a photo organizer and can only show you photos that have been imported into it
To move the iphoto library to an external drive quit iPhoto, drag the iPhoto library from your pictures folder to the external drive and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key - use the select library option and point to the external drive.
Once you have tested the library you can trash the iPhoto library on your internal drive (do not empty the trash until you test the library one more time)

  • Lost photos as iphoto crashed- how do I get them back?

As I was downloading my photos from my exilim camera, iphoto crashed and I lost my photos. I pressed the download and delete from camera button as I usually do- so there aren't any files left on the camera. Can I open one of those files in the picture library that I have no idea what their function is about and find my photos?? Are my pictures possibly hidden somewhere. Please help!!
    Powerbook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Isaac:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The photos in your library are in the User/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals folder. What happened is that the crash damaged the Library6.iPhoto database file, causing iPhoto to think there are no photos in the library.
You'll have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder and subfolders into the new library. Move the current library folder to the desktop and launch iPhoto. When it asks you what to do select "Create library". Then drag just the Originals folder from the library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window. That will give you the same rolls as was in the old library but no keywords, comments, albums, etc.
To recover the files in the camera you can try MediaRECOVER. You can run it in the Demo mode to see what photos it will be able to recover before you commit to purchase.
In the future for insurance against the occasional iPhoto database corruption that you experienced I recommend that you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get you your library back. With that in mind by keeping it current I mean backup after each import and after any serious editing or creating that you might do in the library like making books, slideshows, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Updting iweb/crashes/iphoto also crashed & lost photos/iweb & iphoto probs.

Can someone please help me....... I updated my iwebsite this morning by adding a blog (only 5 blogs in total on site) and importing a photo from iphoto plus changing a couple of words on a photo page.
I then published which was fine.
I then went to do an additional change and publish.
A grey screen came down on the screen followed by 'restart computer' panel in 3 languages.
I restarted to find that iweb would not open and that all photos in iphoto had disappeared.
I then spent over an hour on the 'phone with the applecare protection plan customer help - we rebooted, went into an alternate account and did various other things but I was told the photos were lost and that I should reinstall iweb.
I noticed that the iphoto info still showed 602 mb (aperture shows 305 & this application is fine). Having gone through all my programmes I have now found all my photo files in Adobe Bridge.
1.Can anyone advise how I can import these back into iphoto. (Fortunately most were backed up - just the last week's work wasn't and individual files for an exhibition)
    2. Can anyone advise what to do re iweb reinstallation and importing the saved iwebsite back in.
Sorry this is longwinded - should have done this in the first place rather than go to the apple care centre which hasn't resolved issue.
A big thank-you for any help or advice (I'm not a techy but can follow clear instructions!!)

If you look in your Pictures folder you should find the iPhoto Library folder. Check inside for an Originals folder and confirm that it contains your full sized image files. If so then you'll have to start afresh with a new library and import your photos from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
As for iWeb, locate the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and look inside. Is there only one .sites file in there. If there is more than one Control-click on the largest and select the "Show Package Contents" option in the contextual menu. Check to see if the files used to build your site are there. If so move the other file out of the folder and make sure the file is named Domain.sites. Then try opening it with iWeb.
To prevent iPhoto from this again check out this tip:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
