Lost photos when upgraded to Iphoto 11 - Time machine is off.

I just upgraded my iphoto and have lost all my photos. When I upgraded it was pretty quick and asked me which iphoto I wanted to use. I clicked on the first one. It didn't open the first time but the second time it opened fine...NOW ALL MY PHOTOS ARE GONE! My time machine is off (apparently the computer comes like that and you have to turn it on) and I have no backup!
PLEASE HELP!!!

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • Lost photos when upgraded to mountain lion

So I had all of my photos stored in iPhoto, but my work upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (yes, I realize Lion was skipped), I lost iPhoto along with all of my photos.  iPhoto came pre-loaded on my machine, so I don't have the software to re-install iPhoto.  Advice?  I did save my photos on an external hard drive (via time machine) prior to upgrading, but I'm not sure if they'll be accessable since I don't have iphoto on my computer anymore.  Thanks!

  • Lost photos after upgrading to iPhoto 11

My library had grown to 90,000 pictures, so it was recommended (local Apple Store) to upgrade to Aperture sonce it had better database management.
I purchased Aperture for 80 it then asked that I upgrade iphoto so the library is compatible for both. I purchased iphoto 11 for $15
After installing, iphoto 'upgraded' my library to be compatible
When done, my 90,000 photo library shows as 47000 ! It can't find half my pictures
Navigating through 'Package Contents' , fortunately, I still see my pictures in 'Originals'. How do I safely get the library - ipHoto-11 or Aperture to see all 90,000 ?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Restore a book project in iPhoto using Time Machine

Using iPhoto '11 (9.1). My wife spent an age working a photobook for a friend's wedding. I found her in tears because just as she was about to order copies online she decided to try a different theme and it wiped the entire project. I said 'have no fear', Time Machine will have a copy.
How can I restore this photo book? When I open iPhoto in Time Machine, the photos are there, but all the projects disappear from the screen once I enter Time Machine.
I notice that there is a file called "allProjectsAlbum.apalbum" in the iPhoto database – should I try to restore this?
    All help appreciated.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Cannot Find Photos on External Hard Drive Using iPhoto and Time Machine

    Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on this forum and am really hoping for some help! I have a 2006 PowerBook G4 that is running iPhoto and Time Machine, and I've used an external hard drive to backup everything on the computer via Time Machine. When I plug the external hard drive into my newer 2010 MacBook Pro, I follow this path to try to access the photos:
         External Hard Drive > Backups.backupd > PowerBook G4 12" > Latest > Macintosh HD > Users > Me > Pictures > iPhoto Library
When I click "iPhoto Library", I get the following message:
"The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library."
So, I do as the error message says and I hold down the "option" key and iPhoto launches and says:
What Photo Library do you want iPhoto to use?
In this case, I choose "Other Library..." and again follow this path:
         External Hard Drive > Backups.backupd > PowerBook G4 12" > Latest > Macintosh HD > Users > Me > Pictures > iPhoto Library
When I choose this, I again get the following message:
The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library.
So as you can see, I'm feeling a bit like I'm chasing my tail in trying to open these photos. I did follow another user's advice and confirm that all photos are infact on the hard drive by using the "control" button and clicking "iPhoto Library" under the pictures folder, and choosing "Show Package Contents". All looks to be in tact in the "originals" folder when showing package contents, however, I just can't find a way to actually view the photos in iPhoto. I really don't want to import all the photos to my current MacBook Pro, because I'd like them to live on the external hard drive (which is formatted for Macs) so that I can browse the photos on the external drive, rather than housing it on my computer.
One other thing I tried was opening iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and going to File > Browse Backups...  which essentially opens Time Machine and shows me the photos on my MacBook Pro but gives me no option to view them from my External Hard Drive.
Any super users out there willing to lend me some help?
    Thanks!

The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library.
You can have an iPhoto library on an external drive and use it from different machines
and you can have a Time Machine backup
The two can not be on the same volume - and iPhoto can not access the TM backup - it must be restored to use it

  • How do I get photos from iPhoto via Time Machine?

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and am unable to find my photos through Time Machine.  I tried following the previous discussions on how to do this but I did not find a Master's folder when searching on package contents after right clicking on iPhoto in Time Machine.
I accidentally deleted some photos in iPhoto the other night and was hoping that I could easily retreieve them from my Time Machine Back-ups but this is not the case.  Where the heck are the iPhotos photos stored?  I have a MacBookPro running version 10.8.5.
Thanks in advance for your help-
    Sheri

    Thanks, LN
I only need to retrieve a few photos...not the entire library.  Where is the master's folder located, specifically?  I was unable to find it and I looked very thoroughly through all of the folders.

  • Restore photos from iPhoto without Time Machine

I was having trouble opening iPhoto so I deleted the application and reinstalled it on my Macbook Pro.  Stupidly I was of the impression that all of the photos I had uploaded to iphoto were also being uploaded simutaneously in my pictures file.  I lost about 5,000 photos.  I don't have Time Machine.  Is there any other way to restore deleted photos on my Mac?

The photos are not in the application but are in the iPhoto Library package which is located in your Pictures folder.
Once you get the iPhoto application reinstalled apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

how do I import my video files from old iPhoto - in time machine - to new iPhoto?  Photoes came across, video said incompatible.
i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto
