Lost photos while trying to import to iPhoto

I was importing around 800 photos to iphoto. I have done this many times and it is usually slow but eventually works. After a long time it was finally done importing all of the photos into iPhoto. Every time I do this I click delete from iPhone, so I can make room on it. I dont use iCloud, i was never really taught how to. But while it was deleting all of my photos it just stopped but they were not on iphoto and they werent on my phone either. So pretty much i think they are gone. But i dont get how they would be gone since i spent about an hour importing the photos and the photos said they were imported but they arent there now?? I would really like to get my pictures back if anyone has any advice that would be great!!

I have also just lost a few hundred pictures while importing from my Canon EOS 60D.  Using iPhoto, I was importing about 800 pictures.  The process appeared complete and the software was finishing the delete request on the camera when iPhoto would no longer respond.  I forced a quit and crossed my fingers...  about 500 pictures were deleted from my camera but never showed up in iPhoto.  I repeated the download for what remained without a request for deleting from the camera and the cylce worked as requested.  Unfortunately I am now without 500 pictures I was hoping to work on.  This seems to be an ongoing theme for several users!!!  A recommendation to download a program called mediaRecover did not solve my problem since it soes not identify my Canon as a data source for recovery. (OSX10.6.8 iPhoto 8.1.2)

what version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.8 as you state correct for the OS? Has it ever worked? What has changed since it worked? Will Image Capture  ( in your applications folder) import the photos? How are you importing - USB to the camera? USB card reader? built in card reader?

  • Trying to import from iPhoto '09 - nothing happens at all

    Hey everyone,
sorry for opening a new thread, but since I could not find an answer depite an hour's search, I think I have to.
I am trying to import my iPhoto Library (8.1.2, 55 GB) into Aperture, disk space not being a problem. I can choose the menu command (>Import>iPhoto Library), pick my library (I have tried both original and backup) and then hit "Import". But then: Noting happens. No error message, no import. Just as if I had not clicked the command.
I have repaired permissions on both the hard drive and the iPhoto library, re-downloaded and re-installed Aperture (after cleaning the system), but now I am out of ideas.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Peter

I have checked all available options except for the restore from backup option
Well try again, this time use that option...
    If that fails:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I keep getting an error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.  What does this mean?

I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space."  What does this mean?

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

HOW CAN I AVOID THIS ERROR MESAGE WHILE TRYING TO EXPORT AN IPHOTO SLIDESHOW:  The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -61.)

    Hello,
I believe the issue was the external HD I purchased was not formatted for Mac . . . once I took care of that - all went well!  The slide show transferred and the surprise 70th birthday party was a huge sucess.  Thank you everyone!

  • Error Ox77686174 while trying to import songs

Just downloaded Itunes 7 and am getting the following error while trying to import songs to my playlist from the library.
ERROR OCCURRED WHILE CONVERTING THE FILE "NAME OF SONG". aS UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED (Ox77686174).
    Please help me. Thanks, Jodie
      Windows XP

I have found a work around to this error message. I always found that when importing a CD it loaded the first track and could not do the rest. So I now import each track individually. The important thing to do is to make sure you stop the previously imported track from playing then the next track will import. It cannot play and import at the same time. To import a track highlight it by left clicking on it and then hold and drag it onto the music icon in the library. Once imported it will start to play. Stop it playing and then repeat the above for the next track. As long as you stop the track playing you can import. Takes longer, but at least you can get the CDs imported one track at a time. (Trust these instructions makes sense.)

  • Lost photos while editing in iphoto

I was editing an album on iPhoto (while not connected to Internet, dont know if that matters) when iphoto crashed. When I reopened iphoto only the first (of many imports) import's photos were showing. I don't really want to reedit all those lost photos but when I plug my camera in it says that all photos were already imported and even shows the little previously edited thumbnail as an option to replace if i try to reimport (which I cancelled since those edits must be somewhere then) But why can't I view them anywhere in the library??

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Unreadable photos when trying to import old photos to new updated iPhoto??

After updating to Yosemite and updating iPhoto to 9.6, when trying to import all my old photos, it says they are all unreadable.  How do I update the file format of the photos to import them?

You found the right way to do it.  Never import an iPhoto Library into iPhoto. Just open the iPhoto Library by double-clicking it. You are lucky, that iPhoto prevented you from importing the iPhoto Library. It would have created a terrible mess of duplicate photos in all sizes.

    > Look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation.

  • The photos app hung while trying to import  48 new pictures.  Can close the app nor shutdown OSx - what to do?

Photos app hung when trying to import 48 new pictures from iPhone.
After 2 hours of no results, I clicked to "stop import" and the app did not stop nor will it close.
Get little window that says "closing the library" when I try to quit.  Now been another 2 hours since stop import.
App is using 0 CPU cycles when checked in activity monitor.
Cannot shut down OS X as Photos is preventing/canceling the shut down/
    What to do?
p.s.  I was able to relaunch and import the new Photos to iPhoto since my last synch.  Need to free space on my iPhone since all of the apps have updates with iWatch support enable and that are now taking significant addition space on the iPhone.

Since you cannot even shutdown the system, try to quit Photos from the Terminal.
Launch the Terminal.app from the folder Applications > Utilities.
Copy and paste this command into the Terminal window:
    killall iPhoto
If this will also not terminate iPhoto, try this modification:
    killall iPhoto -KILL
The "kill" command sends a signal to the process to be terminated. Without a signal name as parameter, it is the "TERM" signal, the same as "Force Quit" will send. This request can be ignored. The "KILL" signal is the ultimate killer, it is not catchable and cannot be ignored.
    KILL (non-catchable, non-ignorable kill)

  • IMovie 08 hangs while trying to import iPhoto movies at the start.

    Hi guys,
When I open Imovie 08, it asks me to import iphoto movies. Then it stays there for ages and never ends importing those movies. I know I can just skip this process but I want to edit those videos from iPhoto.
I guess is some corrupted file it is trying to import what is causing this incident but I have no idea how to tell which is the "bad" file since iMovie doesn't give any information about it.
    Any clues?
    Thanks in advence

    Hi,
I wouldn't say I have such a lot of movies in Iphoto but deffintely they are quite a few... anyway, I suspect it will never end because the timer gets bigger and bigger; and yes I left it running overnight with no luck.
Is there any way to see in which video is iMovie having the problem? The other workarround means having to backup and delete videos randomly until I find "the bad one".
    Cheers.

  • TIP: What to do if the Recovered Photos File will not import into iPhoto...

Like many others in this forum, I just upgraded to iWork/iLife '06. When I installed iPhoto '06 it trashed my existing iPhoto Folder and placed all of my other existing photos (those not already imported previously into iPhoto) into a recovered photos file. I tried and tried and tried to import those "recovered photos" into iPhoto but it kept returning an error message on import "Unreadable file"
Finally I selected the "recovered files" then clicked on "Get Info" and found that the permissions were "locked" with a padlock icon. Clicking once on the padlock opened the permissions back to me the "owner" and the iPhoto allowed me to import all of those 425 "recovered photos". Whew! I hope this tip helps someone else out - I had to figure this out on my own...

The fact that you can use the Raws from your XSi is of no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Changing the Raw specification is one of the ways of upgrading the cameras.
IPhoto and Aperture support -  or don't -  the same cameras.

  • LR 1.4 Closes While Trying to Import Images

I just upgraded from LR 1.3.1 to LR 1.4 after not using LR for sometime. Prior to using 1.3.1 I was able to import photos from my hard drive or any location without any issues. Today I tried to import photos form my hard drive using 1.3.1 and the program immediately closes when I click on the import button.
I thought it might be a good time to upgrade to 1.4 so I downloaded and installed 1.4, but I'm having the same problem. When I go to the folder in question, I hightlight the first file in the directory and press the SHIFT key on my keyboard and hightlight the rest of the files.
When I hightlight the last image the program closes without warning. Am I hosed or what?
    Windows XP Home SP3
    2GIGS of Memory
    Plenty of hard disk space.

Have now done what you have suggested Victoria; am downloading a memory card now and, so far, it seems to be working satisfactorily.   I notice that Lr 2 and 4 also have this AGPREFS File; should I therefore delete this one as well, if I purchase LR4.1?   Victoria, do I retick the 'Store Presets with Catelog' again after removing the Agprefs File, or leave it unticked?
No, it hasn't fixed the problem.  As I am about to import a series of new images, another screen of the previous window suddenly imposes itself on top of the importing window, with the result that everything freezes up, and I can't even close Lr 3.6; Lr also sometimes goes into the 'Not Responding' mode for a while--or a black, blank screen appears for about 10 seconds, and even when the screen reappears I can't do a thing with it.   Its very frustrating, especially when one has many images to import!
Gavin, I deliberately don't use a card reader anymore as the 'guide rails' for aligning the memory card that I bought are too short, with the result that several of the pins have bent.   I have looked at virtually all the card readers that are available and find that all 'guide rails' are all too short to effectively and adequately align the memory card!   But what advantage does the card reader have over just using the memory card in the camera?   (Note: the guide rails in the D300 camera are much longer, and therefore there is little chance of the card becoming misaligned when inserting it in the camera.)
