Lost pix in iPhoto

I tried burnng a CD of some pictures from my iPhoto. Went through instructions and pressed "burn", then lost my pictures and now cannot retrieve them. All I get is the spinning circle with the prompt: installing photos". This has been going on for several hours already without presenting the photos. Can anyone offer a suggestion or phone number where I can get help? TIA
Miles

Thanks Brie Fly...however only one photo came back doing this. I found some photos in various places after pulling my Album but I get prompts like: "there is no default application specified to open document" or "the alias...could not be opened because the original item could not be found."
Some items in the album are the actual pictures that I can drag to iPhoto but other have only the icon and when clicking on these I get the above prompts. And, I don't have a clue as to where all the other photos went! I might add that I tried to use the directions in iPhoto's help menus under "Creating a CD or DVD..." Unfortunately when trying this I clicked on "export" and this may be the source of my problem. So if anyone has an idea of what I can do, your reply will be graciously appreciated. Is there a phone number for Apple that I can get to have someone walk me through what I should do? Thanks.

  • How to upload pix from iPhoto back to camera?

I am running iPhoto 6.0.5 and have a Canon Powershot S500. I have occasionally transfered pix from the iPhoto library back onto a Compact Flash card that I then take out of the camera and slip it into a digital picture frame to run a slideshow on the frame. I have before me a long set of instructions that I obviously wrote the last time I did this about a year ago involving setting up a window in Canon's ImageBrowser. I then transferred the pix from Iphoto to ImageBrowser and I was able to upload them from there to the camera. Since that time, my G5 crashed and I lost some programs including ImageBrowser. Since I don't seem to have the original Canon CD and their website does not seem to have the program available, I was trying to get the pix directly from Iphoto to the CF, but I can't seem to get the Export to work. Any ideas??

If the icon mounts on the desktop then it should work.
However, there can be complications. So
    1. Try export to the desktop, the drag from there to the icon.
    2. If you cannot export at all try Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
    3. If you can export, but the card won't accept it, it is likely that the card is formatted as Fat 12 or 16, which are Windows formats that don't like Long Filenames, non-ascii characters (essentially the 26 letters and 9 digits and nothing else).
hope the solution is in there for you somewhere.

  • I have lost all my iPhoto events after upgrading to Photos Version 1.0 (209.52.0)

I have lost all my iPhoto events. Or, am I missing something here?
I just upgraded to the new Photos from iPhoto on my iMac. The new Photos app imported and reorganized my photos by date and mixed all of my previous well organized iPhoto events into a jumbled lot.
How can I re-sort these photos back into an Event type of organization?
I think I had several thousand events.

Moments are the new Events.  All of your events in iPhoto are not Moments in Photo and were also brought over as an album. Open the sidebar with the Option+Command+S key combination and look in the folder titled "iPhoto Events".
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.

  • I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums

    IMac OS X  V 10.6.8
I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums.
    How do I restore?

Your only other option is to stop using your Mac as soon as possible to minimize precious data being overwritten to, purchase a high quality, fast external hard drive, preferably a FIreWire external hard drive such as these
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
using an OS X Snow Leopard install disc, format this external drive as a Mac OS extended (journaled) formatted hard drive with a GUID partition scheme and then, using a install disc of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, install a fresh copy of OS X Snow Leopard and boot your Mac to that external hard drive by using the Startup Disc icon in the OS X System Preferences Panel to boot your Mac to the external hard drive. Once your Mac is booted and running from this hard drive,  then use the OS X Software Update feature to update that version of OS X Snow Leopard to OS X 10.6.8.
Then, you need to do a web search for a Data recovery software such as Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue and purchase, download, install and use this software to perform data recovery of your iMac's internal hard drive following the proper instructions on how to use the software. to recover the data.
Be advised that any images you recover will no longer be in a format that IPhoto will read and most like will just be a folder with just the images alone without any more linkage to the IPhoto library, but I am not completely sure about this as I always have redundant backups of my entire system.
If this seems all too complicated and complex to you, you need to stop using your Mac ASAP and either contact an Apple Store or Apple Authorised reseller/service/repair center to find out how much it will cost for them to recover your data and bring your Mac in for a more professional data recovery.
I still strongly advise you purchase a high quality, large storage, fast, external hard drive to use for future data backups to prevent such a catastrophic data loss from happening, again.
Every  computer user SHOULD have, at least, one external backup drive and having redundant backup drives is even better.

I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks

again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements
I was told I could delete multpiles thru image capture by transferring my iPhoto library etc

  • IPhoto 11: lost all photos., iPhoto 11: lost all photos.

    Hi,
I've lost all my iPhoto library.  I've read all the similar posts and have rebuilt thumbnails, repaired and rebuilt database and still nothing.  It looks like the photos are completely gone from my macbook air, but I don't know how this could have happened.  DOes anyone have any further steps after the ones taken above?
    Many thanks!

Download and run  Find Any File  to search for a file names "Library6.iPhoto".  FAF can search areas that Spotlight cant, like invisible folders, etc. If there is a second library on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Lost my complete iphoto library!!

    Hi,
I have lost my complete iphoto library. I have just upgraded to OS X 10.8.2 from 10.5 and I did not back up previous to losing it. Is there anything tha I can do to retrieve it?

    There are no guarantees.
You download the app and it will scan the disk for recoverable files. It will tell you what it thinks it can recover. Only then do you purchase, if you think it's worthwhile.
Given that the OS was upgraded from 10.5 to 10.8 there was a lot of writing to the disk in the process and the chancs of your deleted photos been overwritten is high.

  • Please help!! Ive suddenly lost my entire iPhoto library..says it doesn't exist although I can see the photos all in grey-but also the menu is in grey, can't do anything

Please can anyone help! Ive suddenly lost my entire iPhoto library while I wss cleaning up…sometimes I can find them, they're there but all in grey and so is the menu for iPhoto…so I can't open or do anything…

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Sending Pix from iphoto to PSE6

    Hullo.
When I highlight more than four pix in iphoto then select 'edit in external editor', only four of the pix open in PSE and those remaining have to be transferred as a separate step. Anyone have any ideas why this limitation exists? I know this might be a question for a PSE forum, but I thought I'd start here first.
    Thanks,
    Russ

No, it’s a limit of iPhoto. You can only send four at a time. I suspect that it’s to protect folks from inadvertently opening their entire Library in the external editor. No one has ever found a workaround.

  • How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto?

How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto? Instead of photos I have dotted borders or, in a few cases white boxes.

You could try rebuilding the database ...
Launch iPhoto while holding down the Command + Option keys.
The Photo Library First Aid window should open.
    Select:  Repair Database
    Click:  Repair
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If you do not currently have a wawy to backup your iPhoto library, you need to do that so that you can recover your photos in the event of a hard drive problem.

  • My Photoshop Elements moved my pix from iPhoto but the picture names have been lost???

I installed  a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 yesterday.  I had been using iPhoto and had literally hundreds of pictures, each with an aphpa-numeric names.  I imported the photos from IPhoto into Elements 12, but there are no longer identifying names on any picture.   Where are the names?  There is a column of numeric file names in [Organizer] along  the left sides - which mean nothing to me.  I have tried every button I could find and searched the Photoshop Elements for Dummies for a possible solution.  I asked two friends familiar with full blown Photoshop and they are perplexed.  So am I.  Has anybody any useful suggestions?  Thank you

If you used the "from iPhoto" command, you made duplicates of your iphoto library photos. Just delete them and then decide how you want to proceed. "From iPhoto" is to be used if you decide you want to use the elements organizer exclusively and not iphoto anymore, but you don't have to do that. You can make a small test catalog with just some photos from iphoto, or you can set up PSE as your external editor from iphoto, or you can export photos from iphoto to the desktop, edit them in PSE and then reimport them back to iphoto as new images.
Which would you like to try?

  • How can I delete all double verisons of my pix in iPhoto ?

all my pix in the iPhoto albums are stored double or even more times. Why does iPhoto not recognize this and how can I delete these hundreds of pix without clicking each one separately? Thanx.

Which copy of them did you delete? Those in the Data folder or the Originals folder? If it was the Data folder then you still have the full sized originals. If it was the Orignals folder then you're delete the full sized version of them and unless you have a backup you've lost them. You can try using a file recovery application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to recover the deleted files. It will let you run it in demo mode to see what files it can recover before you have to purchase it. Unfortunately it's no inexpensive.:(
If it were just the file in the Data folder you can try to recover the library as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
This creates a new library leaving the original one untouched in case the rebuilt version is not what you want.
    If that doesn't work try the following;
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
