Lost Playlists in iTunes

When loading a new playlist onto my iphone the computer froze. When we rebooted, all the playlists were gone. In several forums I've read that when you hover the cursor over Playlists, "Show" or "Hide" should appear as an option; it does not. Newly created playlists will show in the list, but no previous ones. I've also read that I should look in Previous iTunes Libraries folders but the playlists are not there either. I'm working with the most recent version of iTunes. Please help

They are just smart playlists so you can re-add them. Create new smart playlists to replace them. In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist
Recently Added:
Match the rule "Date Added">"is in the last">"1">"Days" make the days and the interval to suit yourself, you can have days, weeks or months.
Top 25 Played:
Uncheck the "Match the following rule" box
Then check "Limit to">"25">"Songs">selected by "Most often played"
Recently Played:
Uncheck the "Match the following rule" box
Then check "Limit to">"25">"Songs">selected by "Most recently played" make the "limit to" to suit yourself.
For all of these also check the box "Live Updating"

  • Lost playlists in itunes, but they are on iphone!

    Hi
Recently I lost my HD but had an external one so replaced my music back into itunes OK (apart from ratings!!!)
But I lost all my playlists!
I still have those playlists on my iphone and want to import them to itunes and update the lists on the phone. Can this be done?
At the moment itunes wants to erase my lists on the phone and start from fresh, which is NOT want I want to do!
    Thanks

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Lost Playlists and recent iTunes purchases

I just updated my itunes and iphone software as suggested when I opened the application. My recently purchased itunes and all playlists are no longer visible. Please help! THanks

today I had to restore my computer back to a date from last month. I just bought my phone last month also. Well when I restored and fixed a previous unrelated problem, my itunes would not open. It gave me a error about could not open itunes. Something about needing to download it again. Luckily a few weeks ago I backed up all 248 purchases. Well I DL'd itunes 7.7 and no music was there nor my playlists. I synched my phone and it deleted all my songs off the iphone and deleted all my free and paid for apps. I reconnected to sync the phone again and authorize the computer again. Finally got all my apps and songs back and synched on the iphone (and playlists on itunes).

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via  your purchase history.
Here is a review of Music Rescue.

  • IPod Playlists in itunes 5.0

    ITunes 5.01 / iPod Clickwheel 20GB / Mac os 10.3.9
I have lost my playlists in iTunes but still have them on my iPod, how can I copy just the playlists from the iPod back to iTunes.
I have all the songs on the iPod and the Mac, so it's just the lists that I want.

    Troubleshooting http://www.apple.com/itunes/mobile/faq/
When I connect my phone, it doesn’t show up in the source list in iTunes. What should I do?
First check that you meet the minimum system requirements mentioned above. Also, be sure that you’ve either installed iTunes from the CD that came with your phone or installed it from the iTunes download web page. Visit www.itunes.com/download to download the latest version of iTunes. Also, be sure that your phone is in “Memory Card” mode. To do this on your phone, go to Settings > Connection > USB Settings. Be sure the Default Connection has “Memory Card” selected. If you are still having difficulty, choose iTunes Music Store Service & Support from the Help menu in iTunes. For hardware issues with your phone, visit: http://www.hellomoto.com/ROKR or contact your cellular phone provider.

  • Lost playlists in apple tv 4.4.2

After updating apple TV 2 to version 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 the ability to access my video playlists from my streaming iTunes mac on my apple TV directly was lost.  There appears to be no setting that will fix this (previous versions allowed you to chose to share playlists) in iTunes or apple TV.  They do remain available in the remote application on my iPhone, iPad, and iPod, but they are no longer available from the Apple TV / computer / movie / menu area were they once were.  This feature is very important to my family and their ability to access content quickly from multiple apple TVs in different rooms etc.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can turn playlists on/off in settings > Audio & Video

  • Does icloud restore my playlists on itunes

I had to restore all my files my computer and the itunes playlists were gone  can they be restored?  Do they have to be manually entered again?

Playlists are one way synced from iTunes to the iPod. So if you lost the playlists in iTunes you will lose them on the iPod as well when you sync the iPod to your library.

  • Programmed playlists in iTunes

    Hello,
I run Mavericks and am looking for an app to play iTunes playlists at a pre-programmeded times. For example, I wake my iMac at 5:25 am and wish to start playlist(s) at 5:30 am. In the past, I used iCalendar, but that had problems. Then I found an app called iTunes Alarm, which was better, but it was written in 2010 and it has some stability issues on Mavericks.
Ideally, I would like to find something where I could easily shift the times that the playlists start. For example, I would start the first playlist at 5:30 am, but that wasn't always a good time, especially if I had a late night. Therefore, before my Mac shutdown each night, I'd like to quickly be able to shift the playlists start times. For example, if I had three playlists set to start at 5:30 am, 6:00 am and 6:30 am, and I wanted the first to start at 7:30 am one morning, then they would play at 7:30 am, 8:00 am and 8:30 am. Basically, the playlists would be defined as:
    Playlist 1 : Start time + 0
Playlist 2 : Start time + 30 minutes (or whatever value you wanted to have)
Playlist 3 : Start time + 60 minutes (or whatever value you wanted to have)
    etc.
Then, whenever you wanted to change the start time, you would enter a Start time value and save and the app would use that start time and offset values until they were changed.
Anyone know of an app that would provide this flexibility? Would be interested in freeware, shareware or a professional app if one exists.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Lance

    Thanks for the info!
Another question: I have an .itl file from 9/06 in a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries". This file I assume would contain most of my lost playlists.
If I do another CD backup - which I think will collect just new additions to my library since 9/06 - can I then delete the current .itl (which would leave me with an incomplete library but one which would include the old playlists), followed by an import from backup CD of the newer, missing tunes?
    Thanks!

  • HELP! Lost Playlists, Lost Podcast, Lost iPod

I recently upgraded my system to 10.4.3 from 10.3.9. My Itunes library has always been on a different hard drive (disk#2) from my old start up disk(disk#1). I had to migrate everything to a new startup disk (disk#3) as well (out of room) before I upgraded the software. I used SuperDuper to copy everything from the old system and make it bootable, everything worked fine. Then I upgraded the system. ugh.
When I first started up iTunes, it did not have any of my songs there. So I went to preferences and chose the Itunes library from the second hard drive (disk#2) where it has always resided.
I discovered my music, but not my playlists nor my podcasts.
Then when I plugged my ipod in, Itunes doesn't recognize it and wants to erase it and restore the whole thing.
"This Ipod is synced with another Itunes Library and can not be synced with two Libaries, do you want to erase it and sync it?" But it is the same library - just a new system! This makes me nervous because it is the only place I can find my podcasts and playlists. So I how can I...
    1. Get my playlists back
    2. Get my podcasts back - especially audible subscriptions
    3. Update my ipod by getting the ipod or itunes to recognize that it is the same library!
    Any advice?
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) upgrading lost playlists, podcasts, ipod authorization etc..

    Hi,
I'm not exactly sure what to do about this, but after having 180 views, I think that you deserve some feedback.
I'm pretty sure that your new system recognizes that your iPod is set up for another system, which in this case, would be your 10.3.9. An iPod cannot be setup for two systems.
Also, did you log into your iTunes Music Store account? If so, you should be able to resuscribe to your podcasts without having to purchase them again.
As for your playlists, theres about a 99% chance that you can't retrieve them, because your hard drive #3 just recognizes it as audio files, and not a music library as you view it in iTunes with playlists. The only chance you have to get them back is to rebuild them.
I would suggest that you wipe your iPod and restore the music from your new library. If not all of your songs and podcasts and whatnot are on your hard drive #3, then there might be a way to get most of them off your iPod first. It's to much to explain right now, but ask if that seems to be the situation.
    Good luck!

  • Why wont a playlist form itunes sync with my iphone?

I made a playlist in itunes but it wont let me sync it to my iphone. HELP!!!

I'm having the same problem too. I just reset my iphone 4S and thought that would help. Nope. I lost over 200 plus songs in my library since that ios7 update. My hubby is so lucky. He never updated his iphone from the i06 and he has no problems with his iphone nor his itunes. I really thought something was wrong with my iphone.

  • Restore lost playlists to Apple computer

How do I restore lost playlists?  I have an apple computer.

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps youshouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl - start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • HT201272 Is there a way to retreive lost playlists?

Is there a way to retreive lost playlists?  One of the not so great features of ITunes seems to be that you cannot move playlists from older devices.   We've lost playlists that are dear to us, even though we have the songs in our library, the playlists were lost in the last 'upgrade' since we seemed to not be signed in with one of our Apple ID's.   I know that it was on one of our previous cloud back-ups....

Yes.  When I didn't see them in iCloud,  I found my old notes in my EMAIL folders of all places!!! Check you emails (any emails that you may have used) and see if you can find a folder called NOTES.  I couldn't believe my notes were scattered between three different e-mail accounts.  If you go to SETTINGS, then Mail, contacts and calenders---check which email addresses are listed, and if any are turned ON, turn them off, then your notes won't be synced to your e-mails and will instead will go to ICloud if you have Icloud set up.  Check it out, worked for me.  Good luck!
