Lost playlists in switch from old comp to new. What to do?

I switched my files(saved an external HD) to my new iTunes library, but my playlists are gone. How do I get them back? If I plug in my iPod, can I get them back that way, or will they vanish when the iPod syncs?

I downloaded iTunes to the new computer. I wanted to be able to access my files, and I was told, in a diff. topic, that one way to do that was to open iTunes and drag and drop the library file into the open iTunes window. I did this.
I have access to the old computer, but it's badly malfuntioning. Even if I can get it turned on and get access to the files, I'm worried that any files I take from the old HD will infect the new comp with whatever the old comp was infected with.
As for the playlists--couldn't I just use the On The Go function(i.e. make OTG playlists out of everything on the iPods, and just retitle once I plug into the comp?)?

Songs From Old Comp and New

My old computer borke so i got a new one. I added some some songs from some CDs onto my new computer. When i connected my iPod it asked me if i wanted to replace the songs on my iPod (Old songs) with the songs i just put on (New songs). But what i wanted to do is get the songs on my iPod (Old songs) into my library with the new songs or get the songs from my library(New songs) onto my iPod and keep my old songs.

Connect your iPod and when you will get the message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Transfer iTunes from old comp to new comp

Hi,
Since my old laptop crashed, I have made its HD into an external drive till I can transfer contents.
However, I do not know how to go about iPhone syncing and saving info without losing data/information on my iPhone. As my iPhone also needs to be backed up!!
So where do I find the backup files for iTunes/iPhone on my old laptop (windows PC) hard drive?? So that I can transfer it to the new laptop (hopefully this should work??)
How can I go about backing up my iPhone on a new comp without losing info?

Easyesd way:
Copy the whole iTunes folder from your backup disk to the new Mac, replacing the existing iTunes folder in the folder "Music"
On your backup disk the folder should be in "Music" or, if that was a Windows machine, in "My Music"

Switching from old AE to new version: process

Hi all;
I'm about to replace my older AE (spaceship, 802.11g) with a newer AE (square, power-adaptor shape, model# A1264).
I have an existing network and am hoping (oh, how I'm hoping) that the network will simply find/use the new AE and go on happily.
Just want to check:
1) I have an existing network now. If I simply unplug the older AE, and plug in the new AE and connect it to the modem,
the manual indicates that I will just need to go to Airport Utility and select it, and my existing network will then use the new AE.
Is this all I'll need to do? Seems too easy?
2) The "new" AE was previously owned. I've held done the reset button for 20 sec or so.
Adequate to erase any/all old info on it?
Sorry for simplicity of questions, but I'm just hoping to forestall any problems, so please let me know
if there are any other issues, that anyone has encountered.

When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment. Also because, you have picked up a "previously owned" device, this would also be a good idea.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.
The other thing to take into consideration is that you can export the current configuration profile of your existing AirPort, and then, import it into the new one. Some setting will need to still be changed as the new router will some different or new features, but this would work as well. However, in the long run, I think if you start with the factory default reset, you can save yourself any additional trouble with the setup ... and start from a "clean slate."

Can anyone help??? I can not get my itunes libraby off my desktop to my laptop..

Simply log into your iTunes account on your new computer and click "Advanced" and "Authorize Computer".
If you have songs that you added from CD's, they won't stay with your iTunes account. However, you can simply transfer them by adding them to a storage device, say USB drive or simply a media disk. These songs can be copy and pasted from Music > iTunes > iTunes Media
Though purchased songs I don't recommend transferring because it's already on your iTunes account library.

Music not recognized from old PC to new, what did i do wrong.

So i just got a new PC. I saved my entire Itunes file on an external hardrive. The music all transfers to the new PC and i loaded it into the newest Itunes. I authorized the new computer through Itunes and got all artwork. Now i cannot play songs or transfer music to my i-pod. I had to rboot the Ipod. so now i have an empty Ipod and a bunch of Music I cannot play. I've connested my Iphone and it seems to recognize it, but I'm afraid to connest it again until i trust the itunes to work. When I try to play a song it say cannot locate the original/
What did i do wrong? What can I do? I still have the old tower available to retreive Itunes

The index page copied from the template is now reading the css. I did nothing other than shut down DW and open it again. Maybe it just takes a while for the process to complete. Am now creating more pages that are also not reading css. Will do the same and see if it all connects.

Changing from old product to new - what happens?

I am just wondering I have upgraded my old BT account from the old Unlimited Infinity 2 product to the Totally Unlimited Infinity 2 product (no traffic management)....
Checking web it says completed...
Checking my router stats it hasnt disconnected / reconnected....
Should the router not have disconnected when changing over from the old product to the new?
Or do I have to reboot the router?
Or am I still on the old product?

Need help transferring itunes library from old computer to new laptop

I recently purchased a new laptop and am having trouble getting my library to transfer to my new laptop, i followed this step by step process http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US and in the end ended up with no music on my ipod and no music in the itunes library on my new computer...
So then i went into Itunes on the new computer and clicked import library under File, so i found the Music folder that i had transferred over and it imported the music but all my playlist were not there, just songs. So i ended up syncing my ipod back to my old computer so i would get all the songs and playlist back on as it was originally before this whole process...
My desktop runs XP while my new laptop runs Vista Ultimate w/ SP1 home edition, dont know if this matters...
So not sure where i should go from here, i have already Authorized my laptop with the itunes store , i was thinking of uninstalling Itunes on my laptop and starting over from scratch, will this help?
BTW when i did the original transfer i used my Ipod as the hard drive as it had plenty of storage room left on it, i do have access to a 250GB external HD i was thinking of using that and trying that to transfer the library...
So if anyone can tell me how to transfer my Itunes library from old comp to new laptop it would be greatly appreciated...

The method you used should work if followed exactly.
The key points are - is your music all together? It must all be in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.
When you copy the iTunes folder to the iPod you get the library database with your playlists and the iTunes Music folder containing the music files.
Since you had trouble doing this with the iPod, why not try copying your iTunes folder to the external drive.
The method is identical the one for the iPod except you leave out the iPod specific stuff.
You install iTunes on the new PC, then you drag the newly created iTunes folder out the Music folder to the desktop, then you copy the iTunes folder from the EHD into Music, replacing the one you dragged out.
When you have done that, you need to check that your account has full control of your iTunes folder - Vista is fussy about that - you will not be able to edit track info if you don't have full control.
