Lost playlists when migrating?

I got some good help from Apple support, who told me how to get my music back, but I seem to have lost my playlists during the migration. I still have my older computer next to the newer one, and it would be no trouble to hook them up. Is there a way I can copy the playlists from one machine to the other? TIA!

Repairing permissions on the iMac G5 was interesting. It took a half hour just to read the - and then nothing. So I stopped the repair, got out my Leopard disc, booted from it, and tried again. LOTS of permissions problems, and many of them seem to have to do with iTunes or front row. And - I ran the repair twice, and the same long list of incorrect permissions came up both times. Also, I had a hard freeze on the G5 while watching a TV show in iTunes. I haven't used it much yet, but no other program has given me problems so far. So-
I wonder if something went wrong with iTunes itself when I migrated? Should I perhaps uninstall it and bring it over again?
don't bring it over. remove it and reinstall. click here and follow the instructions.
I don't want to do that if I don't have to, since I'm so close to having the G5 usable.
reinstalling iTunes is pretty safe. it will not affect your media files.
All my music, ringtones, etc, are actually there - just none of my playlists.
you could try to re-create your library and playlists. click here for information.
Anyway, thanks for your help so far. One other question - since I was moving from Tiger to Leopard, the migration assistant automatically brought over classic - which won't run in Leopard. Could that also be screwing things up on the iMac?
i doubt it. however, if the machine you migrated from was not trouble-free, you could have migrated those problems along with the rest.
if all else fails, i would consider performing an Archive and Install.
when that is done, you have these options to move content from the old to the new machine:
1) connect the Macs with a firewire cable and start your old Mac in Target Disk Mode. drag the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) to the music folder on the G5, overwriting the iTunes folder in place there.
2) transfer the iTunes library from the old Mac by using any of these tips/instructions.

  • Lost Playlists when importing from PC

Hi, I have had my itunes running on bootcamp under Windows. I have changed this to Mac and installed itunes again only to lose my playlists.
This was all backed up before switching over. How do I find my playlists?
    Tony

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Sorry to hear about the lost pictures.
Follow this article to attempt to find the missing pictures by name (which should still be visible in iPhoto when you click on the pictures and then click on the information button): http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1995. If you can locate the pictures on the computer you can drag them into the iPhoto icon in your dock which will import a fresh working copy to iPhoto:
I suggest you limit your use of the computer and iPhone until you can contact a data recovery specialist. The more you use the computer / iPhone the more likely that the data you erased could be overwritten by the computer and will be unrecoverable.
You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there. Here are a few examples:
    http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com
    http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/
    http://www.totalrecall.com/
You can also use data recovery software to retrieve accidentally deleted data yourself. Here are a few examples:

The pictures may be in the backup of your iPhone made by iTunes when you sync (assuming you didn't sync again after you removed the pictures). You can restore your iPhone from it's backup if you like: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
For further suggestions on restoring your iPhone from backups I would post in the iPhone forum: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=201

  • Lost playlists when I installed newer version of itunes.

My employer recently purchased a new computer for me and transfered all of my files to a new Macbook. (Also, I have my itunes set up to run from an external hard drive.) Anyway when I tried to open itunes, I got a message saying that Itunes couldn't read...something because a newer version was installed etc. Well, I read on the forums how to fix that, and I can now see all of my music in the itunes library but my playlists are gone. I saw a post relating to this and followed the steps of downloading the newest version of itunes, etc. but I still have no playlists. I desperately need to retrieve these somehow...please help.

As long as the books are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

I lost all my playlists when downloading the new itunes. Besides honestly wanting to cry, is there anyway to get them back without making them all AGAIN? And thanks so much, stupid Apple. Am looking for a new MP3 player to take your stupid ipod player's place. I used to love my ipod...now everytime I turn around, apple has screwed with something that causes ME time and trouble.

  • HELP! Lost Playlists, Lost Podcast, Lost iPod

I recently upgraded my system to 10.4.3 from 10.3.9. My Itunes library has always been on a different hard drive (disk#2) from my old start up disk(disk#1). I had to migrate everything to a new startup disk (disk#3) as well (out of room) before I upgraded the software. I used SuperDuper to copy everything from the old system and make it bootable, everything worked fine. Then I upgraded the system. ugh.
When I first started up iTunes, it did not have any of my songs there. So I went to preferences and chose the Itunes library from the second hard drive (disk#2) where it has always resided.
I discovered my music, but not my playlists nor my podcasts.
Then when I plugged my ipod in, Itunes doesn't recognize it and wants to erase it and restore the whole thing.
"This Ipod is synced with another Itunes Library and can not be synced with two Libaries, do you want to erase it and sync it?" But it is the same library - just a new system! This makes me nervous because it is the only place I can find my podcasts and playlists. So I how can I...
    1. Get my playlists back
    2. Get my podcasts back - especially audible subscriptions
    3. Update my ipod by getting the ipod or itunes to recognize that it is the same library!
    Any advice?
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) upgrading lost playlists, podcasts, ipod authorization etc..

    Hi,
I'm not exactly sure what to do about this, but after having 180 views, I think that you deserve some feedback.
I'm pretty sure that your new system recognizes that your iPod is set up for another system, which in this case, would be your 10.3.9. An iPod cannot be setup for two systems.
Also, did you log into your iTunes Music Store account? If so, you should be able to resuscribe to your podcasts without having to purchase them again.
As for your playlists, theres about a 99% chance that you can't retrieve them, because your hard drive #3 just recognizes it as audio files, and not a music library as you view it in iTunes with playlists. The only chance you have to get them back is to rebuild them.
I would suggest that you wipe your iPod and restore the music from your new library. If not all of your songs and podcasts and whatnot are on your hard drive #3, then there might be a way to get most of them off your iPod first. It's to much to explain right now, but ask if that seems to be the situation.
    Good luck!

  • HT201272 Is there a way to retreive lost playlists?

Is there a way to retreive lost playlists?  One of the not so great features of ITunes seems to be that you cannot move playlists from older devices.   We've lost playlists that are dear to us, even though we have the songs in our library, the playlists were lost in the last 'upgrade' since we seemed to not be signed in with one of our Apple ID's.   I know that it was on one of our previous cloud back-ups....

Yes.  When I didn't see them in iCloud,  I found my old notes in my EMAIL folders of all places!!! Check you emails (any emails that you may have used) and see if you can find a folder called NOTES.  I couldn't believe my notes were scattered between three different e-mail accounts.  If you go to SETTINGS, then Mail, contacts and calenders---check which email addresses are listed, and if any are turned ON, turn them off, then your notes won't be synced to your e-mails and will instead will go to ICloud if you have Icloud set up.  Check it out, worked for me.  Good luck!

  • Attaching a PLL automatically when migrating from 6i to 9i

    Hi,
is it possible to attach a self-written pll-library automatically during the process of migration (6i->9i) when using the migration assistant ?
How can I achieve this ?
Where do I have to put entries in the migration assistant, converter.properties, search_replace.properties ?
(I have in mind the example of the attachment of the reports-pll rp2rro.pll containing the workarounds of run_report.)
Especially when migrating a great number of Forms to 9i it could be useful to execute an automatic attachment of self-written PLLs instead of attaching it manually.
    Has anybody an idea ?
    Best Regards,
    Michael Wolters

    Hi,
actually you would upgrade the application sources from Forms 6i to Forms9i and then run teh Forms Migration Assistant for the clean up /this at least is my understanding after asking one of our Designer Product Managers).

  • What did I do wrong? I used to have iTunes installed on this computer and lost it when it crashed. No I can't get past a certain point in the installation point. I keep getting an error message stating that I need to verify that I have access to this file

Help!! What's going wrong here. I used to have iTunes installed on this computer but lost it when it crashed. I've tried re-installing it numerous times but I keep getting the same error message. "Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes.Resources\es.lproj\iPadLicense.rtf. Verify that you have access to that directory." I know I have access to that directory because on a different computer I can sync my iPad and iPhone. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to go in and authorize or turn on? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

You can start the playlist playing in the iPod app and then switch into the Photos app and start your (non-music) slideshow - as you've found out you can currently only select a single track in the Photos app. Whether that will change in iOS 5 I don't know, but you could try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

My phone is lost.  When I use "find my phone",  it says that my phone is "offline".  It has a charged battery and I hadn't turned it off.  When I call my number it immediately goes to the voice mail.  Does that mean someone has found it and turned it off? What should I be doing.  I have used icloud to lock and send a message to my phone but if it is offline does that do anything?  HELP!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It may be that someone has turned it off or it may be that it has been lost in an area where there is no reception. The best thing that you can do, is contact your provider and let them know that you have lost your phone, and change your iCloud password at My Apple ID

Something has changed on my iPod. When I sync it now it scrambles music between playlists. So, I will be listening to my jazz playlist when suddenly holiday music from another playlist is there. When I go to iTunes, however, the playlist is as it should be--jazz in the jazz playlist, holiday music in the holiday music playlist. I have two iPods--one is syncing properly while the older one is not. Any thoughts?

You are currently managing your music manually. You can either sync or manage the music manually, not both. If you want to sync, all the music currently on your phone will be erased and replaced with whatever you decide to sync to it.

It appears to be a bug with the current build. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
