Lost power,,, lost configuration

I have a newly installed E2400 Linksys wireless router.  About and hour after getting it fully set up,  we had a storm come through and it caused a momentary power outage.  Long enough to reboot everything.
When everything came back online,  I found that the E2400 had lost about half of the configuration that I had just completed.
(Yes I did save the config.  when I finished.)   Is that normal?   Am I going to have to reload the config file everytime we get a power glitch?????
Solved!

Well in this case try to do the configuration again.Enabling WEP or WPA/WPA2 wireless security key or password on the router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless security which is dynamic in nature, which means that it changes depending on the time renewal you will specify.
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wireless security which does not change.  It provides comparable confidentiality to a traditional wired network.

  • Lost configuration after power outage

Can someone please help. I have an older linksys wireless router (b) and all of a sudden it loses it's configuration if the power flickers in the house. I have had this router for 4 years with no problems to date.
Now it loses it's configuration every time the electric in my house flickers or goes down due to a storm etc.
Does this mean the router is dying on me? I am very familiar with routers and have saved my configuration, but for some reason this continues to happen.
I did see some other posts, but no real answers regarding this issue.
    Please advise.

i think the best best bet here would be to use a power surge protector ..

  • Lost Configuration

Everything has been working fine with my router (WRT54G, ver. 2) for as long as I've had it, then several weeks ago I couldn't connect and after verifying I had the current firmware (via direct connection from my PC to my ISP) I reset the device and then reconfigured it. Again, everything was working fine.
Then tonight, everything stopped working and the configuration was reset to factory defaults.
I played Halo 3 over Xbox Live earlier tonight so I at least had connection then, but when I tried to connect with my laptop my wireless SSID wasn't available: only the unsecured "linksys". Turns out it was mine, and all configuration data was lost.
I restored configuration from a recent backup, verified the settings, and still nothing works. I'm typing this using a direct connection from my PC to my ISP (cable modem; Comcast).
Is there anything that could cause the router to just reset? And any clues why restoring from a recent configuration backup doesn't yield a network connection? My laptop can connect to the WAP and my PC diagnostics shows me connected to my router, but there's no Internet connection. I've already restarted the router though I haven't reset it again. I'm about to try, but I can't keep resetting this thing all the time. It's a poor customer experience. Besides, I'd still like to know how it reset itself with no known interaction in at least several weeks other than power cycling it a few days ago (due to a power outage and the modem and router coming up at different times).

Resetting the device and reconfiguring it (not restored from backup) allows me to connect and post this reply, but my main question is still how did this happen?
My device has decided to reset it's configuration twice now for no apparent reason. The firewall is enabled with the defaults set (anonymous requests blocked, multicast packets, and ident port 113 disabled) but can someone still send some crafted packet to cause this? I haven't seen any such reports on /., though I admit I know that isn't the best source of information on attacks.

  • PRS-T3 lost configuration after reboot

Hi there. Everytime i restart the reader, or it turns off by itself, it lost all the configuration like the date and timezone, and all the notes and highlights dissapears. I tried everything, softreset, hardreset, format the internal memory but the problem still persist.
Anyone with the same problem? Or a posible solution? Thanks

I have heard there may be a problem with the plug-ins using the configuration API in certain conditions.
Please open a support request to get known work around / fix.

  • Time Capsule lost configuration

I went into my network settings and made the network available only between 6 am and midnight.  I saved it, but then the computer couldn't get on the internet.  When I clicked on the wifi it keeps asking me for a WPA2 password, which I entered but it is saying is incorrect.  When I went back to my network settings, all my configurations are gone and it is locating an OLD bellsouth info.  How do I fix it?

A sudden power outage or voltage surge due to  a thunderstrorm or similar can cause the Time Capsule and other AriPort rotuers to lose their settings and return to factory defaults.
You might want to plug the Time Capsule into a surge protected power strip to help minimize the chances of this occuring again the future.

  • Lost configurations when rebooting pc

Whenever i restart my pc, the "browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo" entry in about:config turns to 0. I have to manually set it to 20 each time and if i don't open firefox as administrator it will set back to 0 if i restart firefox as well.
Also i have to re-set the "show my windows and tabs from last time" as well every time as well. If i manually restore last session after start up i wont have the same session i was browsing before turning the pc off.
Aside from that, the history and book marks are working good.
I am using firefox 27.0.1, windows 7 ultimate.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
If you have software like Advanced SystemCare that might reset some files to older versions to protect these files against changes then check the settings or uninstall this software.

  • [RESOLVED] Gnome Updated - Functionality Lost...

    Laptop:
    ASUS F5 Entertainment System (PRO50N)
    Turion 64 x2 CPU
    Mobile NVIDIA GeForce 7000M.
    Gnome3 Fallback Mode
    Proprietary NVIDIA Drivers
    Kernel 3.2.1-1
    Hi.
I updated my laptop today after not updating for a while and now I'm having quite a bit of trouble with gnome3.
Gnome itself loads normally at first glance. But then you begin to see things aren't quite right. The first problem is that there is no mouse cursor at all. You can see different things being highlighted when you hover over them, and you can click on things as per normal but there is no cursor.
Second problem is that if you open an application (e.g. Firefox, Terminal, VNC), it opens full screen and covers both of the panels. In addition, there are no close, minimise or maximise buttons visible any more.
The third problem is when you click the minimise to desktop button on the panel an error appears stating:
"Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager"
    Things I've tried:
Rolled Dbus back to version 1.4.14 from 1.4.16 - Rebooted; No change.
Reinstalled Gnome completely - Rebooted: No change
The only error in /var/log/everything.log is:
WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start application: Failed to execute child process "volwheel" (no such file or directory)
    No errors in /var/log/error.log.
Renamed .config, .gconf and .gconfd to allow new ones to be created. Started xserver. I now get the default gnome3 background and a retro style 'X' shaped cursor, but no panels load. This is probably due to gnome3 loading without fallback mode which has never worked on my laptop. If I try to re-enable fallback mode from the console using the command:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session session-name 'gnome-fallback'
I get an error outputted stating:
    ** (process:2488): WARNING **: Command line 'dbus-launch --autolaunch=e968348bcb1af19a68dbb72400000b51 --binary-syntax --close-stderr' exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here?
If you need any more information let me know.
    Thanks for any replies!
    Scott.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't seem to show the errors that i'm seeing when I type "startx" thats why I asked if there was any way to copy it.

  • Configuring Internet on solaris 10!!

    Hello everyone,
I am new to solaris 10, i use broadband internet that requires username and password. Please tell me how can i configure it using java dsktop. Please tell from the scratch.
    waiting for reply
    Amitoj

    Sorry for my English, please.
I have a DSL connection that uses username and password, I use network card and router modem.
I can connect using ppp. It's easy to configure. First of all test your network configuration, or type sys-unconfig and clear all.
When the computer reboot, answer the questions, network? yes. router NO, DHCP NO, services DNS, other questions will be video driver, keyboard, etc.
You have in :http://www.phildev.net/solaris/spppoe.htlm an excellent guide for configure ppp.
REMEMBER: First reconfigure your system, I had a several days lost configuring ppp.

    Thanks in advance.

All that is needed is the following:
    xinit -- -xf86config /path/to/file vt1
    # or
    xinit -- -xf86config /path/to/file vt$XDG_VTNR
The first is specifically for starting from tty 1, the second is the general form.  Startx includes the XDG_VTNR, which is why you see the difference.  I think you could also use `startx -- -xf86config /path/to/file` but I never use starts, so I'm not sure if it passes parameters to X in the same way.
EDIT: startx does take arguments for X in the same way.  So the following would also work:
    startx -- -xf86config /path/to/file
This would be the same as startx, just with the new config file.
(edit: added vt prefix as noted below)

Any hints on what it's not working? I use Slim as login manager, and when it comes up, the left screen only show a small portion of the screen.

    Option "monitor-VGA-1" "Dell"
    Option "monitor-HDMI-1" "Asus"
Do you need the word monitor in there? I was under the impression you only needed "VGA-1". I'm having a similar problem to you though so don't take my advice too carefully (why didn't I back up my old conf file :'()
    Edit; You do.
Here is my krandrrc from when I used KDE. Could you put something in your autostart as a hack?

  • Edev configuring keyboard as mouse

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble with edev. For some strange reason edev/xorg seems to be configuring my keyboard as a keyboard then as a mouse, forcing x & y axis and the rest. Also my power button as a keyboard it seems. Not sure how to stop this.
My mouse also seems to be configuring multiple times. I'm using the razercfg tool to config that.
    Can anyone help?
    Heres my Xorg.0.log

I'm currently using pointerkeys when I don't have a USB mouse with me because my touchpad seems electronically dead.
I didn't want to merge the pointerkeys settings with the keyboard layout configuration so I created the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-pointerkeys.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "PointerKeys"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbOptions" "keypad:pointerkeys"
    EndSection
Pointerkeys are disabled by default at boot time, but you can simply enable them by pressing Shift+NumLock ( I think it's customizable).
When the pointerkeys are enabled your numpad works as a three buttons mouse. Don't expect it to change the numlock setting, when you press Shift+Numlock the NumLock led stays exactly the same.
1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 are used to move the cursor around
5 is used to trigger a single click, or a double click if you're quick enough
pressing 0 is like clicking and holding the button down, so you can use it for drag'n'drop. press 5 to release
slash, asterisk and minus select which button are you going to click with 5.
    / selects the left button
    * the middle button
    - the right button
The movements acceleration and so on can be customized, but I never tried.
Pointerkeys are not very comfortable, but they're really helpful for emergencies as most GUI applications are not really keyboard-friendly.

  • "stuck" cpu processor speed on different power schemes

Hi, I just purchased an X230 with an Intel Core i5 3230m.  I wanted to create an ultra low power scheme with minimum processor speed but found that the processor speed would not change from the maximum 2.6 Ghz.  I tried a few different power schemes and they showed the same speed of a 2.6 Ghz.  That isn't right --- the low power option should have a processor speed of 1 - 1.5 Ghz.  For some reason, I can't reduce the processor speed.  I'm stumped!
I'd appreciate any thoughts members may have on this.   I must be missing something fairly basic here.  But I tried changing it in Lenovo Power Manager and Win 7 Power Options.

even on the maximum performance scheme under windows, the cpu should throttle.  But the way Id tackle this issue: (1) check your bios and make sure you have all the power management features turned to auto or at least not at 100% all the time (its something along these lines).  (2)  Check your windows power scheme, configure the maximum battery one and do a min/max cpu speed of 5% and cpu cooling to passive.  This should force the CPU to the lowest state if (1) is met.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Power Management - Machine Wake Up Time is Randomly Offset

We have recently migrated to SCCM 2012 R2 from SCCM 2007 R3. Since moving the clients to the SCCM 2012 R2 server I have noticed that the Power Management Wakeup Timer is not working as it used to.
Power Management is configured as follows:
    Peak Hours: 5:30AM - 6:00PM
    Wakeup Time: 5:30AM
Previously, all power management configured clients would wakeup at around 5:30AM, some a minute or so before, some a minute or so after. Now they are on SCCM 2012 R2, I'm finding that they are waking up anywhere from 5:30AM to 7:30AM. At first
I thought this was due to the Deadline Randomization settings, so I set "Disable deadline randomization" to Yes on the Computer Agent. However, the machines are still waking up at random times. To ensure the change was propagated properly,
I changed the Wakeup Time by 1 min to 5:29AM and updated policy on a few test machines, but no joy.
Does anyone know why this is occurring?
    Thanks
    Kate

    Hi,
This setting determines whether the client uses an activation delay of up to two hours to install required software updates and required applications when the deadline is reached. By default, the activation delay is disabled.
If required software updates and required applications must install without delay when the configured deadline is reached, select
    Yes for this setting.
