Lost previews

Help! Only just started using Aperture but somehow I've lost the preview images in Aperture. Just got lots of black outline boxes. Clicking on a box does bring up the original picture but no previews. Tried the Generating Thumbnails option but no difference. Any ideas please? Thanks. Kev

Couldn't find posts with exactly the same problem. But I found the solution is to re-import all your photos and create a new library from scratch - which does take a long time. Problem seems to have arisen because I did a lot of importing of photos whilst in TRIAL mode before purchasing the FULL mode.

  • Lost Preview monitor in log & Transfer

    Hi,
I'm logging footage in Log & Transfer and have lost my preview monitor. All footage is there. Can anyone help?
    Jeff

    Hi -
Are you trying to import XDCam footage from a camera storage card? Log and Transfer is not the way to do it.
You need to use Sony's XDCam transfer software to import the footage.
Some of the clips show partial, because they are larger than the file size limit of the card, and the complete clip spans multiple individual files - if you use the Sony XDCam software, it will join the partial clips automatically.
    Unless I misunderstand what you are doing . . . .

  • CS3. Ugrading to OS 10.6, I also lost preview of images in Photoshop

    CS3, OS 10.6, Mac
In upgrading to 10.6 on Mac, I also lost the ability to preview images in Photoshop. So when I go to Open and choose a folder, I have to know what each stock photo image # means as I no longer have the image showing up like it used to.
How do I get back to normal on that? Thanks!!!

Hi. Thank you. That kind of works but what I was looking for was where you had the list on the L and then in the column to the right, it showed the images so you knew what each number was for. So if you clicked on a number, you could see what that image was. Thanks again!

  • Power hit causes lost previews

I took a power hit yesterday when using LR.
Now when I open it, most of the thumbnail previews are missing. The grid boxes are there and the metadata in the righthand panel is there. The photos (the actual files on disk) are there, of course.
When I exit LR I try to back up the catalog. I get a Warming message that says "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its Preview cache and needs to quit. Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches." I hit OK, then the program hangs and I have to force it to exit.
It sounds like the power hit may have caused some portion of the preview cache to be corrupted. If so, though, why would LR not detect a problem when it opens? Since it hangs later, perhaps the catalog was corrupted as well, though again it opens fine and the metadata seems to be OK.
Any suggestions as to how to go about repairing this with the least amount of damage or lost work?

How much wattage depends on what you want it to _do_.
For example, at home I have a .. uhmm. rather large setup.  It will hold my computers, routers, firewalls, fileservers, etc, up for almost an hour.
Overkill?  yes, but at the time I got them (I have two), I was living in a place where power would go out for 20 minutes at a time randomly and I got tired of it. I have them hardwired into special electrical plugs mounted on the wall, and the units are in the basement.  (Funny story: right after I got them up and running we got a power outage.  Lasted 1 hour 10 minutes.  Sigh.)
If all you are looking for is 3-5 minutes of power to give you time to shut down or protect you from power surges, then you want about double the amount of wattage your system is using now.  If your computer uses 400watts, then look in the 750 watt range.  Higher power will increase your time/amount plugged in.  Some units (larger ones) you can also buy external battery kits to add time.
A KEY feature to look for in smaller UPS unit is that it conditions the line, not just one that jumps in as needed.  In other words, it is always "on" and making power for your systems.  That way brown-outs, spikes, etc, can't get through it because you're never really running on grid power.  Yes, I've picked up a couple of small units for my last work place, so I know the make them.
I prefer APC units, they are sturdy and plentiful, rack mount and batteries are easy to change when needed.
    Cheers!

  • Lost previews in photogallery widget ibook?

Suddenly when I send a preview to my iPad of my ibook and I look at it I can't see the little photo previews anymore When looking at the foto gallery widget.

Does some else also have this problem (working with 1.1 (190) version of iBook author)

Solved my problem by restarting Ibook Author.

  • Lost preview in Finder - cannot see photos

I saw another previous, archived post on this same topic. The answer did not work for the person who posted the issue, and it does not work for me.
The issue: Finder, in column view, should display a preview of the photo thumbnail icon when the file is highlighted. That function is not working. And I did <apple-J> and ensured that display icon was checked.
I reported this to Apple Care and their answer was Archive & Install, which I find to be a crude and unacceptable fix. There has got to be a more reasonable way to repair this - please help!!!

I hope this doesn't seem too obvious, but checking the "Show Preview Column" in View->Show View Options will add the preview column, but it will not make the icons in Column View show up as thumbnails.
With the option enabled, you will have a final column that will display a thumbnail of the selected picture. You may have to click on the little triangle next to the the word "Preview" in the Preview Column for the thumbnail to show itself the first time.
If you still don't see the thumbnail, it's possible thumbnails have not been created for your photo files. This often happens if the photos were transfered from another computer or if the camera does not automatically create thumbnails.
You can remedy this problem using this free software:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19673
Just launch the program, make the sure the parameters are set to create a thumbnail and drag your photos onto the Thumbs-Up dock icon. After that, your preview function should work fine.

  • Lost Preview, help!

My mom deleted Preview (she is a newbie). Is there any way to reinstall Preview without having to use the original installation DVD?
I would go to her house and do it for her but we live 200 miles apart and I would like to solve this online.
    thanks!

Are you not in possession of the install DVD? That would of course be the best way, in conjunction with something like Pacifist.
Did she empty the trash -- perhaps it's still on her machine?
If these aren't options, and assuming she only deleted the application itself, and assuming you two are running similar versions of OS X, you could package up your Preview directories and unpack them on her machine. You should be careful to preserve file permissions and ensure that file/group ownership is correct for her system.

  • CS6: lost previews and thumbnails

Surprisingly this is not in the FAQ section: how do you folks get around the problem of having no previews when opening a file from Windows Explorer?
I realise Adobe wants us to use Bridge but I'm sure I am not alone in finding this unstable and slow.
Another forum recommends intalling Sagethumbs which is great for showing thumbails in Windows folders, and also shows really tiny thumbnails when opening a file in Detail view.
But I really miss having the preview pane to see full size images when selecting a file to open in Detail view.
Has anyone found a workaround for this issue?

I like the FastPictureViewer Codec pack myself.  FULL support for all the functions required of codecs.  Commercial software, but quite inexpensive and well worth the price.

  • Some icons lost previews after 10.10.3 update

Mostly Photoshop JPEGS and TIFFS. Not all, not all the time. Have tried deleting finder.plist, did not help. Happens on internal drive and external drives. If I do a Get Info, preview shows as generic JPEG or TIFF icon.

You can destroy your system running programs like these.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • Lost Previews, Masters remain, Rebuild isn't helping

In attempt to repair a Dropbox issue, I pulled out the Preview and Thumbnail folders to my desktop and then rebuilt iPhoto.
Most of my photos are still visible in iPhoto but there are a lot that are missing. I only see the outline of the image that should be there. I can go to File > Show in Finder > Original / Modified and the image is shown in Finder.
If I drag the previous Preview and Thumbnail folders back in to iPhoto (via show package contents) then all my images return again. The difference is over 2GB though so I'd like to have it rebuilt and consolidated as much as possible.
    Any ideas?

    Think of it this way:
I open the bonnet of my car. I yank out a few pieces. My car won't start.
So I put the pieces back. The car starts.
That suggests that the pieces are important to the working of the car, no?
Similarly with the iPhoto Library: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
What exactly are you trying to achieve?
    Regards

  • Lost previews and snow leapord

Since upgrading to snow leapord l can no longer see previews when l go back to look at projects. l re imported some images from the weekend again last night to a new project, previews were fine then but when l go to the project today there is just the grey background, no outlines. Older previews in projects pre snow leapord are all still fine. Any thoughts many thanks

I'm having the same problem as well. The default Control / Arrow does nothing since upgrading to SL. I've gone into Systems Prefs and set up alternate keys to both cut on and move between the spaces windows. Nothing works!!
This kind of ***** as I use Spaces all of the time for my work.

  • CS3, Upgraded to OS10.6, Lost previews of images when try to do place

Hi. I upgraded to OS10.6 per our tech person. Now when I am in a document, I do Command/D to place an image. Now all I get is the list of the names, no more preview connected to  the names of the images.
How do I get back to seeing the images without having to open all of them when I want to place an image out of a list of images (long list!)? Thank you.

Corruption can happen for a number of reasons but the most common include when the app is unable to complete writing to the databse - by a crash or force quit for instance - or when there is minor directory damage.
If a back is not working then
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I lost Preview where and how I download it again?

I have OS X Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8 and suddenly one day the Preview app disappeare from my macbook and I find it no where in the App Store. What can I do to have it again and why it disappeare?

In the upper right hand corner of the screen, there is a maginifying class. If you click this, you can search for preview. If you find preview, just click it to launch it. You can tell it to stay on the dock by moving it to where you want it, or right clicking the icon in the dock > Options > Keep in Dock

  • Preview.app- PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Guys,
So I wasn't sure on where to post this... but I'm sure anyone can help me.
    I've lost preview.app
So now I can't open photos
I was wondering if someone could make a copy of preview (obviously for Snow Leopard) and give me a link to a download online or I can supply my email. Please help me. I've made sure it's not on my Macbook.
    Thanks.

You should be able to reinstall just the Preview app from the Applications DVD that came with the OS. No need to do a complete reinstall.

  • Probleme with previews in 5.3

    Hi
after having handled my files, I have lost previews in Lightroom.
If I change my catalog I found the previews but are Lightroom settings that are no longer available
    thank you for helping me
PS: if this topic has already been dealt thank you to guide me to the post please
    i use Windows 8 and LR 5.3

LR has created, for some reason I do not know a duplicate photos from multiple folders.
These dual have the same name as the original but the name is extended by "-2" and so by clicking the exclamation point I'm looking photo he take me well on the original ds picture folder on my PC
The problem reaches 5 or 600 photos one by one and this may be tedious.
would there be a quicker solution?
