Lost printer access after daisychaining linksys secondary onto Actiontec primary router

Help please..Need to get printer connection lost when FIOS Actiontec router wireless G replaced with WRT160N.
My devices;
a Dell Vista desktop is home pc, hardwired to...
a FIOS Actiontec wireless G router (model # MI424WR....  the current router they're installing and...
Ricoh Aficio printers (first was just a printer; second one, is printer and fax...) are hardwired to same Vista desktop.
Plus, a laptop and...
a desktop pc's, both running XP SP3; both connecting with Netgear USB wireless adapters; WN111v1, and WN111v2.
recently added Linksys WRT160N router to the network to control the wireless, taking that duty away from the Actiontec (which had to keep as DHCP enabled primary router, for TV service.)
Apple Airport Express as wireless client; just to play iTunes wirelessly thru home stereo.
first configuration;  All worked fine 2 months ago, before I installed FIOS; original configuration was, Aficio Printer hardwired to Vista desktop; RCN broadband service with modem; router was Linksys WRT160N,; security bounced between WPA 2 and WPA, depending on what worked at the time.   my XP laptop could connect wirelessly through network, to that printer.
-then, switched from RCN broadband to Verizon FIOS; implemented second configuration;  modem removed, replaced by Actiontec wireless G router for internet and tv, initially taking away the Linksys for the Actiontec for wireless etc.   I was still able to use the Actiontec's G signal to find the printer through the network; so, still OK.  I also changed security from WEP to WPA2-AES, which worked fine; even adding Airport Express for wireless iTunes to home stereo.  But Not happy with G speed;
then implemented third config; - so dusted off and daisychained the Linksys as secondary router, hardwired to the Actiontec, to act as an access point for wireless, shutting off the Actiontec wireless signal.  Worked great for N internet connection; but now cannot connect to printer.   Also at this time, Coincidentally, a different printer/fax machine replaced the original printer; Aficio brand.  No drivers were added to the other pc's for this printer.
Net result; my XP pc's can still connect to router and internet; but cannot install the new printer completely.
my XP laptop shows the printer, but gets error "spooling service not running".  an XP desktop doesn't even show the printer when browsing to add printers; it gets stuck at error "cannot add a printer not in the trusted network".  Named all computers as WORKGROUP and did the windows network set-up.  I also have McAfee antivirus on the Vista home pc; but have Norton Symantec from Comcast (long story!) on the 2 XP pc's; so I cannot fully identify and manage the three pc;'s on the network.
trying to fix; last night i downloaded and installed onto the XP's microsoft's hotfix  (? Lttp or whatever) which successfully made them show up on the Vista network map, with properties displayed etc.
I also hardwired the laptop to printer and installed Aficio drivers; it seems to be installed, but never got it to print a test page.
'wirelessly i can bring the printer up on laptop network map, see properties and settings (for printing); but get error message when trying to print test page.  Meanwhile, the vista desktop can still use the printer, as always.
my ideas;
1. change WPA2-AES back to WEP; just to see (but hardwiring printer to laptop didn't succeed completely...?)
2. could put McAfee on all three pc's, if that would help.  rather not, i prefer the Symantec (but hardwiring ruled this out, right??)
3. try to configure so that all devices are identified clearly on the network, and managed.
any suggestions?
thanks, pdoyle

How did you connect the linksys to the actiontec?
If it was lan port of actiontec to wan port of linksys the presumably the linksys is on a secondary subnet which will give you problems getting to the printers as there is no route to them.
If that is what happened you just need to move all your hard wired ethernet connections from the actiontec to the linksys.  One everything is on the same subnet then it should all work OK again.  In addition anything on the linksys subnet should be able to see anything on the actiontec network (not vice versa)

  • E3000 as an access point with an E3200 as the primary router not showing all connected devices

I recently rewired my home with cat 6. All network and telephone comes in to the basement. While most devices in the home were converted to LAN connections a few remain WiFi connected.  The connections are as follows:
    Cable modem -> E3200 ->High Speed Switch <--> E3000.
I purchased the E3200 to be the primary router. I'm using both 5.0 and 2.4 ghz connections. I set up my (existing) E3000 as an access point (AP) according to these instructions. I used the LAN-LAN setup so that all devices would be on the same network. Both E3200 and E3000 are at the latest firmware level. Both use the  same SSIDs, one each for 5ghz connection and a second for 2.4 ghz connection. Almost everything is working but there are a few nagging issues.
    1) A smart  phone connected wirelessly to the AP shows as a LAN connection when viewing the E3200 DHCP client list
    2) I set up a DHCP reservation for my network attached printer on the E3200.  When it connects via the AP it is not assigned the predefined IP address
    3) I can see the network attached printer on the E3000 MAC filter list but I can't see it when viewing DHCP clients or MAC wireless clients from the E3200 even though the printer is attached and working correctly.
I can understand the reasons for issue 1 but it seems that a client attached to a wireless AP should also show as wireless to the main router.

Well, let me know what IP addressess you have assigned to the network devices? Second if you remove the switch from the network (between E3200 and E3000) does the issue still persist... Once powercycle the whole network and then check whether it happens or not.

How you have connected this both the routers to each other?
    LAN - to - LAN

  • Lost Printer Sharing after HP Driver Upgrade.

I have a 3.06 Intel Core Duo iMac and a 253 Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. Both are running 10.6.8. They have until recently successfully shared my HP C8180 All in One Printer, the iMac being connected to the printer via USB and to a Netgear Router via Ethernet and the Macbook Pro being linked to the router wirelessly.
Having just updated the HP Drivers via software update on both machines the Macbook Pro is no longer able to connect to the printer via the iMac wirelessly and the printer is not reported as being "Nearby". It does however connect via the iMac if it is connected to the router via Ethernet !
Printer sharing is on on the iMac, I have tried removing the printer from both machines Preferences and re-instating them (which coincidentally has meant I have lost the connection to "Lightscribe" and can't get it back on either machine !) I've tried installing the latest HP Software to try and get the Macbook pro to connect to the printer directly via the router but witth no success - it reports that some of the HP software is not compatible with 10.6.8 despite HP saying it is for 10.6.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the laptop to print in the way it did up until earlier today and how to get "lightscribe" back?

After more experimentation I found that not only was Printer Sharing not working neither was File Sharing but printer sharing worked if both computers were connected to my Netgear router by ethernet but not when the laptop was connected wirelessly.
This suggested a wireless problem, possibly within the Netgear Router. As both could access the internet however they were connected to the router it looked as though the router was not passing an incoming wireless message from the laptop out to the iMac via ethernet.
I finally found a solution to the printer sharing part of my problem. I remembered eventually that I had a similar problem some many months ago and that it resolved itself after all of my equipment had been switched off and disconnected from the mains power.
Consequently I switched everything off, unplugged it all from the mains power supply and left it for 25 minutes. On reconnecting and rebooting everything the printer sharing now works properly again with the MacBook Pro connected wirelessly and the iMac via ethernet to the router an, for printing, the iMac via USB to the printer.
I think that the  loss of "Lightscribe" may relate to the way the printer is set up internally. Reviwing the Printer User Manual I suspect that it is probably reverted to a set up allowing control of "Lightscribe" internally rather than via a computer (possibly this happened after a reset of the printer to factory settings some time in the past) and when I removed Lightscribe from the list of printers in the iMac's Print & Fax preferences the iMac couldn't find it again. As I don't use "Lightscribe" I'm leaving well alone.
Hope this self reply helps others.

  • Lost printer features after upgrading to Windows 8

    I'm using a HP Deskjet 2060 K110 AIO.
After installing Windows 8 from Windows 7, the option for "Pages to Print" (print even and odd pages) and "HP Real Life Technologies" were missing, even after installing driver from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4157...
I tried installing the driver from the CD it came with, it doesn't want to install.
Is this feature deliberately removed or am I missing something?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Those features do avaialble as part of the driver provided with the HP Full Feature Software, by your description I assume you wrongly added the In-OS driver included within Windows 8.
Follow the steps below, that should add any feature of the printer:
    1. Download and run the latest full feature software below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-109371-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
    2. Once the installation dialog appears, click CTRL + Shift + ESC to launch the task manager
    3. Right-click the HP-DQEX5.exe process and select Open File Location.
    4. Right click the top address bar and select Copy address as text.
    5. Open the control panel and then go to Devices and printers, Right click the HP Deskjet Ink Adv 2060 icon and select Printer Properties.
    6. Open the Advanced tab, then click on New Driver.
    7. Click Next, click the Have Disk button, paste the software address by clicking CTRL + V and click OK.
    8. Complete the wizard and click OK to confirm the changes. your pritner driver should now include any of those options:

  • Lost internet access after 10.10.2 update

Since the OSX 10.10.2 update my iMac (late 2008) can't access the internet anymore.
    This is what happend:
Due to the incorrect installation of the OSX 10.10.2 update I had to reinstall OSX from the recovery disk. The installation went smoothly and OSX 10.10.2 is now installed.
    The Problem:
The system can't connect to the internet anymore. From my Wi-Fi router (Fritzbox) the iMac gets an IP address and it is also possible to access the routers GUI via web browser by entering the router IP. If i enter a www. address in my web browser (Firefox) i'm getting the message "no internet access". The same thing happens with other browsers or programs which want access on the Internet. But My MacBook and Windows PC can easily access on the internet, so i can exclude a problem with the router or modem.
Here's what I've tried, without success:
    - Disabled OSX firewall
    - Little Snitch deactivated
    - Disabled Avira Antivirus
    - Enter the IP address instead of www in your web browser
    - Hosts file in /private/etc deleted
    - Restarted the router, modem and iMac
    - Go through OSX Network Diagnostics
    - Reinstalled OSX 10.10.2 i
    - Little Snitch completely uninstalled
    - Connected the iMac directly to the router via LAN cable
    - Various alternative DNS server (Google, openDNS)
    - The DNS cache emptied via terminal command
    - deleted all preference files in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration containing "wifi", "network", "nat", "preferences" and "airport"
All of these things didn't help at all and no web browser or other program is able to access the internet. Any ideas what to do further?

  • HT1338 Do I have to reinstall my print drivers after upgrading to 10.8? I seem to have lost both my printers and my ability to download from my camera. Never had problems with 10.7. I'm a little scared.

Do I have to reinstall my printer drivers after upgrading to 10.8? I seem to have lost the ability to communicate with either of 2 wireless printers and to download pictures from my camera. (Photoshop keeps telling me it can't find the device.) Any suggestions?

Have you repaired permissions and restarted your computer after installing ML?  Checked your printer settings in System Preferences?
If Software Update does not list any updated drivers for your model printer, you should go to the printer's manufacturer website and download the drivers from there and/or contact their tech support to determine if your printer is compatible w/ML.
Read the various Knowledge Base ML printing articles.  Here are a few to get you started:
OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found
OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot a USB printer
OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot an AirPort printer
If none of the above work, post back w/the model of your printer and how it's connected to your computer.  USB?  Wireless?

    Try "Pacifist"!
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package

  • Lost IP access to Linksys wireless router WRT54GS v.4. How to restore?

Apologies for the long post and multiple questions. If you can answer at least one of them, I will be appreciative!
While attempting to set-up wireless networking between my new Westell Model 6100G and Linksys wireless router WRT54GS v.4 (with most recent upgraded firmware), I lost access to the Linksys. When I hooked up the Linksys again via Ethernet to my XP PC with the modem no longer connected, I was unable to access it via IP 192.168.1.1. All I get is a blank web browser page (with the usual “diagnose, etc.” button). I assumed this is because the IP address conflicts with IP for the Westell, but I am also concerned if it is hardware failure. I have tried resetting the router, but no luck. I have tried ipconfig /all which gave me a different ip address. But when I tried to access the Linksys using this ip address, I was unsuccessful. I hooked up the router to a different pc with no present Internet access and tried IP 192.168.1.1, but still no luck. Trying the IP I got from ipconfig /all at this new pc failed as well.
Is there a chance I have a hardware failure? I had access last night when the linksys was at its original location (I only checked it once before turning in), but I seem to have lost access ever since I moved it closer to my desk and to a new electrical outlet. When turned on, the Linksys has green lights in the right places, so it looks fine, but, again, no access via IP.
If it’s not hardware failure, how do I find out what IP address the Linksys actually uses now if it is no longer 192.168.1.1? Or how do I change it?
Is a WRT54GS v.4 worth the trouble or should I start over and upgrade to a newer router?
Is Linksys the best choice with the Westell 6100G? The configuration procedures seem very complicated compared to my ease of router/modem configuring in the past.
    Solved!

"_when I setup the Westell modem in bridge mode, will I lose my Internet connection?_ "
    Answering my own question: "yes."
I found what looks like a good step-by-step guide to hooking up a Westell 6100 to a Linksys
    router at:
    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/vz/4._Hardware#13600
It provides more detail and up-to-date illustrations than Verizon's instructions at
    https://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/SetUp/QuestionsOne/87126.htm
(which appear to be for an earlier version of the Westell 6100), although they are otherwise similar. The DSLreports faq confirms that Internet and IP access to the modem will be lost during the setup phase. For a "newbie" at such linking, this bit of information is very helpful!
Thank you, Telcoguru, for confirming that I should have followed the instructions exactly from beginning to end before becoming concerned and skipping steps.
I will close this thread and wait for a long lazy day, to try linking the Westell and the Linksys again. If I need to post again, it will hopefully be with more specific questions about specific steps that haven't worked as they should.

  • Lost Deskjet 5740 printer driver after upgrade.

Lost Deskjet 5740 printer driver after upgrade. HP site has a download but it does not appear in the driver list after downloading it. Ideas?

Okay, as of last night, both the printers are working fine. I uninstalled the 5740 and then tried several different rearrangements of the two printers. First I tried hooking the 5150 to the AEBS and it printed fine. Then I tried hooking the 5740 to the AE and it printed fine. Finally, I tried my original configuration with the 5740 hooked to the AEBS and it printed fine! Very frustrating.... I'm not sure if Apple sent an update I downloaded in the meantime that fixed the problem or what. I can't think of any other possible explanation.
So to recap, I can vouch that I have an HP Deskjet 5740 connected to an AEBS and an HP Deskjet 5150 connected to an AE, all set up on a WDS (wireless distribution system) with Leopard and everything works as expected. Hopefully your printer magically started working again as well Bibycat.

  • Lost ALL access privileges after software change

I have a G4 running 10.4.3 Tiger. It began to act unstable--contant freezes, etc--and out frustration I loaded the only software I could find (OS X 10.3) and as a result, solved the freezing but lost user access to everything I have--IPhoto, iTunes, movie files, etc etc. iPhoto won't even launch! How do I regain access to the files? I bought the Mac used, and the original user accounts were set up by the previous owner, so I don't know passwords, user names, etc. Help!

Tough to figure what a 10.3 install might have done with the 10.4 files, Downgrades by a whole point were never figured in.
First, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when done.
    Then I'd get EasyFind...

  • Lost print capability on Mac 5 years after install

Yesterday my home office network lost print capability with both my Windows and Mac computers. I was able to re-enter a new IP address for Windows - up and running. I have been trying all tricks I know which aren't many due to the reliability of my AirPort Extreme mushroom router. I was able to print once, one document at a time on my Mac but have to reset the network single IP address each time. What's up?

I have been trying all tricks I know which aren't many +due to the reliability of my AirPort Extreme mushroom router.+
Not sure what you mean by that. What have you tried?
First things first, if your Extreme is 5 years old, the proper forum to ask post is in this one: Airport Extreme (non-802.11n model).
Next, if you're really running OS X 10.4.5 you ought to update it to the latest version of Tiger, which is 10.4.11. I know of no reason not to update.
You might be successful by simply deleting the printer from your printer list and adding it again. I've also found it's best to assign the printer a fixed IP address. If your network suffers a power failure causing your Extreme to reassign IP addresses, your printer won't receive a different one next time it boots. When that happens, it makes the printer hard to find, network-wise.
I've assigned my network printers an address of 10.0.1.100, 10.0.1.101, etc, which leaves plenty of available addresses on that subnet, so consider doing that.

  • Using an old AEBS as a printer access point

I would like some help please on how to configure an old (2006 UFO) Airport Extreme Basestation as a wireless hub I can use to plug some printers into for printing over a wireless network (if it can be done). I'm using Airport utility 5.3.1.
I recently purchased a 500GB Time Capsule which acts as both a backup device and my ADSL wireless router. This made my old Airport extreme redundant, but I want to use it as a wireless printer server. But I'm a bit stuck on how to configure my Airport network and Apple support and a local reseller haven't a clue!
To start with I setup my Time Capsule device, connected it to my D-Link ethernet modem and everything is working fine. I then reset the old AEBS which creates a new wireless network called Apple Network a78a67. I then switched back to my Time Capsule network and did the following in Airport Utility to Time Capsule:
    - Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
    - Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
    - Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
I applied the settings and restarted the device. Then I switched back to to the new Apple Network a78a67 created through reseting the AEBS. This is the bit that makes little sense to me...
    - Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
    - Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
    - Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
    - Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.
The problem being that I DO NOT have an option to choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu. The only two options I have are to "Create a Wireless Network" or "Participate in a WDS Network". Likewise there are no options to choose a network name from a pop-up menu. So although I can configure and switch between two wireless networks, it seems the two devices don't want to talk with one another, thus I have two wireless networks.
What I want to do is to have one single wireless network - with Time Capsule providing internet access and the AEBS providing wireless printer access.
I have tried configruing the AEBS using the "Participate in WDS Network", but on saving the settings an error message is displayed regarding a lack of WDS Nodes???
    Can anyone advise please?

    willonamac wrote:
Thanks for your help and advice. I got there eventually in a roundabout way! At one point I was given an error message stating that the configuration could not be retrieved from the Time Capsule. Then the internet connection via the modem was lost. But after a couple of intensive restarts, both units appeared under the same network and I can see my printer connected now.
I've seen this with AEBSs when changing their configurations, too. Glad you got round the problem in the end.
One more question through, I've connected a 4 port USB hub to the Airport Extreme Basestation but I can only get one printer to show up at a time under System preferences and Airport Utililty. Is this because the USB hub being used is not self powered or because this model of Airport Extreme only allows connectivity to a single printer at any one time?
I think it is because you can only use one printer at a time with this model. See this knowledge base article for details. You likely have firmware version > 5.5 but I'm guessing don't have the relevant AEBS model. Take a look, though.

  • WRT600N - Lost Wireless Access

I tried a search and found nothing similar.  1st, everything had been working well, then, for some reason, I lost wireless access to the internet.  I can still access my local network wirelessly (printer and a couple of other local items) but no internet.  I can access the internet normally using a wired connection into the router (plus all the local items).  I have check all my sttings and have "booted" everything a handfull of times.
    Any suggestions?
    Jim

As you have mentioned in your post, you are able to go online when you hardwire your computers to the router, but you are not able to go online wirelessly through router. Here are some settings which you can changed on your router, and i believe that this might solve your problem and you will be able to go online wirelessly..
This if for 5GHz Wireless Settings :
Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network.Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
This is for 2.4GHz Wireless Settings :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
