Lost Project library files -   edited functional film clips  have caution d

I have edited a number of clips from one minute to 10. I left them in the project Library. They seemed fine and I left them there for later transfer to iDVD. Now a number of the files have caution ! sign and the edited project is non functional with only one frame.
I believe the event library is still OK so information is there to reedit- What has happened- can I somehow retrieve the Project library folders intact again?

Hey!!!!!
Your problem sound quite common. Is it possible that you deleted or moved any of the clips from their default location. iMovie always stores its clips and events in one place.
If you have moved ANYTHING that you used in the movie (pictures, music or clips) that could mess up the movie. I would advise not moving any of the elements of your movie until you have transfered it into a Quicktime movie.

I recently had some 8mm film transferred to DVD. I am trying to edit the film clips using Premier Elements 4.0. so I can reburn the films on a single BluRay disc. Some of the film clips copy into the project but others don't. I tried copying the VOB filed onto my hard drive and then changing the file extensions on the VOB files to MPEG but this was no help. Some of the VOB files contain numerous film clips but my software does not appear to be able to recognize them as such. I need to know if replacing my old Premier Elements with the new Version 13 would solve this problem or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    What do you have now.....
What computer operating system do you have?
We can go into the finer points of source and your intentions, but for now it would appear that you are using SD 4:3 source media to get to a HD 16:9 result. Lots to discuss in this regard.
What was given to you on the DVD disc? DVD-VIDEO 4:3 or something else?
If DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, you should expect to find on the disc a folder named VIDEO_TS. That is your target for your video files.
If you were given a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, then all you want from it are the video files, specifically
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on through that series until possibly getting to
VTS_02_1.VOB, and so on. How many files you have beyond the VTS_01_1.VOB file will depend on the size of the DVD-VIDEO.
Does the above scenario apply to you?
The alternative might be someone giving a DVD disc (data disc) which contains just the VTS files mentioned which were copied from
the VIDEO_TS Folder. So, you do not get the whole VIDEO_TS Folder, just the essential video files. Does this scenario apply to you.
I see no need to replace your Premiere Elements 4 with a later version unless you have a huge project and need a later version that will be a 64 bit application running specifically on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer.
Consider...Premiere Elements 4 and if you have DVD-VIDEO on DVD....
    1. Place the DVD disc in the burner tray
    2. Open Premiere Elements 4 and set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard (assuming you are working in a NTSC setup)
    3. Go to
    Get Media
"DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader"
"Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" and its Advanced dialog.
Set the Source in the latter dialog for the drive which has your DVD disc inserted in its tray
You should see your VTS_01_1.VOB thumbnail in the "Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" Advanced dialog.
With this VOB selected, click on Get Media to get the file from there into the project.
    Should work fine.
Complications may be involved if the people who processed your footage gave you something other what is described above.
Please review and consider, and then we can plan our project strategy accordingly.
    Thank you.

  • TS1967 When trying to recover a lost iTunes library file, the programme moved all the normal contents of iTunes folder to the desktop. Now what must I do?

When trying to recover a lost iTunes library file, the programme moved all the normal contents of iTunes folder to the desktop. Now what must I do? There is no iTunes Library.itl file. On the desktop it is labelled iTunes Library.xml. Several others files have appeared there too including iTunes Music Library.xml
Before I can use the programme is it necessary to take another step?
    Thanks for advice.

Don't worry. I'm all for caution. I guess I should have asked a little more about what steps you took while trying to recover your lost library?
The permissions thing may be a red herring, but if there is a problem with file access rights to the designated media folder iTunes has been known to place files on the desktop instead since it can access this location. The most common cause for such problems is working with a folder on an NTFS drive via a differnt account or on a different computer. In the normal course of events folders created inside user profiles have limited rights for other users.
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Normally the iTunes folder will be created at <User's Music>\iTunes with the media folder inside it. The library files should all appear in the same place so your comment about there not being an iTunes Library.itl file is confusing. Is it just the case that the .itl extension is hidden? The two .xml files makes sense from the above and indicates that the active library is not in <User's Music>\iTunes, but you have a recovered file from when it was.
If, in fact, the situation is that your desktop is acting as the main iTunes folder, and contains the library file, Album Artwork, iTunes Media and (optionally) Previous iTunes Libraries folders, with all other content being inside the iTunes Media folder, then it should be relativly easy to rearrange your into the correct shape and move them to the correct location.
If things are more complex, with something other than a library folder containing a media folder, then reestablishing the normal order is more complicated. The iTunes consolidate function is used to bring copies of files stored outside of the media folder into the media folder. It may sometimes be needed as part of the process of tidying up, however it leaves behind originals. There are circumstances where there isn't room for two complete sets of the media files on the same drive which is why I suggested the script might be useful as it produces the same results for the library without leaving the originals for manual clear up.
I think before you do anything however, we should get a clearer picture of exactly what is where. Could you perhaps take a screenshot of the desktop and post it here? Take a look at this post on making a split library portable. The same techniques I outline there can be used to lick your library into shape, it is just a question of working out which to use in which order for the best effect.

  • I lost my add and edit function on my contact list

I lost my add and edit function in my contact app.

Thanks for this tip. Had this problem with my ipad. Brought it to my local Apple store. Two employees in the store I spoke with had never heard of this issue (including one @ the "genius" bar who suggested to just restore from my laptop). This fixed my issue! Thanks

  • How to move all thumbnail clips into project library for editing?

    Hi there ...
I haven't used imovie 08 for quite a while ... and I've forgotten how to do a major step .. which is leading to a lot of frustration. I need to drag all my thumbnails into the project library and have them available for editing. ANy way I try it now .... it seems to create one big clip in the project library .. so when I want to add a title or something ... when I drag it over to the clip ... it selects to add to the whole movie. Somehow I need to retain the individual thumbnails or clips ... so when I try to add effects it is just added to one clip ... not all of them ...
I had this problem before and I can't remember how I moved all the separate clips from the event library to the project library and had them retain their individual clip format available for edit...
CAn anyone help me .... thanks ....

    Hi,
This is a shot in the dark but: if it is anything like 09 there is a little slider in the bottom right hand corner of the project window which, if it is all the way to the right will only give you the whole movie.
Pull it to the left to give you different thumbnail settings.
    Hope this works.

  • While working on FCPX project, power failed. Power on, restarted, opened FC, Project Library shows blank icon, no clips. Click on icon, nothing happens. Haven't done back-up. Can project be recovered?

While working on a FXPX project, there was a power failure. Power back on, restarted FCPX, project name in Project Library is a blank icon, nothing happens when I click on it. Believing back ups were automatic and continuous, I made no back up. Can the project be recovered?

Years of fine internet use via WIFI then randomly it starts dropping then one day (weeks later) it is no longer accessible at all and even saying "No hardware installed" when I click on WIFI icon at the top right on screen. Here is how I finally fixed it!:
For six months I wallowed in this problem and had to connect my macbook pro to the internet via ethernet cable which as you can image was very restrictive :/
I have had numerous laptop technicans befuddled by this WIFI problem and most concluding with how my WIFI card must be broken and that I will need to buy a new one. The last suggestion I had on the matter was to buy a USB wifi dongle.
So I ended up buying this one, http://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/Unfortunately my macbook pro didn't want to read the install disc and it didn't autorun so it didn't work. After reading more forums I saw that you could download the program from the net and sure enough it worked.. BUT STRANGER when I took the USB dongle out the WIFI was still working!! The program appears to have reminded my four year old macbook pro that it is indeed WIFI capable.
So to find this miraculous program its located herehttp://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/HelpDesk_Download/
Same link as above just under SUPPORT>Driver&Tools
You then click on a file when its downloaded and a file called MAC will appear, then click on install. Within 5 minutes you should have your WIFI back. My macbook pro crashed again today but without having to get the shortest ethernet cable you've ever seen out again - I was able to install the program again and WIFI was up and running once more. Moral of the story - didn't need to spend any money to fix this and not even using the USB dongle.
So happy!! Hope it works for you too!
This also worked on a MacBook that lost its WIFI when a user accounts password was changed and the keychain password wasn't known to them - another random way to lose WIFI apparently

  • I have lost my toolbar for file, edit, etc. and I have also lost the toolbar for the internet address. How do I retrieve these?

I lost the file, edit toolbar when I tried to retrieve my active bookmark tabs toolbar. Last night I needed to print an airlines boarding pass and naturally I was very annoyed. While trying once again to find the toolbar, the internet address bar disappeared. Please help.

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

  • After updating to FF4 I've lost my toolbar (file, edit, etc).

This morning when I turned on the computer it ask me to update to FireFox #4. I did. Now when I'm in my e-mail there is no toolbar available at the top of the screen. It moved my bookmarks to the extreme right (used to be on the toolbar mid-left). I would rather have the toolbar than the update. Can I go back?

    I've disabled add-ons. I started in safe-mode. I cannot get the menu-bar up.
I've used FF for years. but its becoming more like IE all the time and I hate this FF4, I can't get any tool-bars up at all.
If i click on the menu bar ..it just removes it but never opens it, if that makes sense.

  • Lost playlists, Library listings on a computer, but have them on iphone

Aright, I am really getting sick of iTunes 9.2. This is the 3rd time this has happened and it is making rethink my decision to buy anything dealing with itunes.
itunes has started up and I am staring at a blank music library, blank podcast library and the default playlists yet again.
Does anyone have a fix for this crappy software that can't seem to hold a database? Because it is getting old real quick.
What I have done in the past is.
    1) Re-import all my music from the drive
    2) Export playlists from my iphone and manually drop them back into itunes.
    3) Manually add ALL my podcasts back to itunes.

Hmm, probably this awful cycle begins when itunes is shut down and its ITL file doesn't get saved correctly. Then the next time itunes is started, yes - itunes makes a new blank database file. It looks like an itunes startup issue, but begins when itunes is shut down.
As for random, there is probably some pattern to it.
As for mysterious process, it won't be mysterious after you figure it out.
redkeefy found it was the sony software on their PC. Another poster in that same thread mentioned Windows Live One Care was causing it for them. I've seen posts where other security software causes the same issue.
Years ago, the lastFM itunes plugin was causing trouble for me. lastFM fixed it pretty fast - the lastFM current version don't cause itunes problems. SimplpifyMedia on my Mac tries to,but instead of getting a totally damaged file, itunes just has to spend about 5 minutes checking the itunes library if my son resarted the Mac without closing SM first.
You need to be fairly PC-savvy to run that SysInternals tool. If it's beyond your skills, then try saving off the ITL file in another folder. On the theory that whatever is conflicting with iTunes will leave the ITL file alone in that other folder.
    Good luck!

  • Movie Clips in Event Library not Recognized By Project Library

I downloaded Photos but when working on a project in iMovie 9 my iPhoto videos were not found.  However if I revert to using iPhoto I regain my ability to move selected photos into my iMovie project so for now I will simply not use Photos.  However I still have a problem.  The movie clips in the projects in my Project Library don't find the clips in the Event Library in the iPhoto Videos folder.  I see either:  "This clip's media file is not currently available" or "Source clip is missing."  Is there some way to refresh iMovie?  Fortunately the projects shared to iTunes are still intact.

Many who post here use Preference Manager from DIgital Rebellion to trash preferences. It's reliable and the price is right – free.
I assume you've tried different events on different drives and the no-playback problem persists.
And just out of curiosity, can you play clips in a project timeline or if you open the clip in its own time line? And does the skimmer skim?

  • I've lost the file, edit, bookmarks, tools headings. How can i get them back?

I've lost my headings -- file, edit, bookmarks, tools. How can I get them back?

    Hello Rick.
Press ALT or F10 in your keyboard to make the Menu Bar temporarily visible. If you want it to be permanently visible, go into ''View > Toolbars > Menu Bar'', or right-click the Navigation Toolbar (the Reload button, for example) and select ''Menu Bar''.
If this doesn't help, right-click the navigation toolbar, select ''Customize...'' and click ''Restore Default Set''. If it doesn't appear right away, try pressing ALT or F10. You can go into ''View > Toolbars > Menu Bar'' to make it permanently visible, or right-click the Navigation Toolbar and select ''Menu Bar''.
If none of this helps, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Try disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal.

I have the same problem. It says I have 7 projects but only displays 6. Happend after using Voice over recording.
All movie clips are still there, just not all my editing info.

  • How to open my project library progress in timeline with FCPX 10.1?

So I've been having a huge problem with FCPX 10.1 and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out even what I'm supposed to ask--much less what the answer is.
So here's the basic problem. I don't know how to open my complete progress of a project library in the timeline. I have 5 projects, and two of them, for some reason unbeknownst to me, I just double click to bring up in the timeline. The other three, however, won't. Let me clarify more. One of the projects is not even showing up in the new 'Projects' sub-menu when selecting my library. The other two are showing up in the 'Projects' sub-menu, but aren't showing as having any content. Their time shows as 0:00. Now for one of the projects I mentioned before (the one that isn't even showing up in the 'Projects' sub-menu,) I know that its editing was saved because I worked on it several different times (having closed and opened FCPx in between) However when I was working on that video, I never removed it from my timeline. So whenever I opened FCPx, my progress it would just automatically pop up in the timeline.
My problem is this: I do not know where to reliably find my progress for my various project libraries and to open them in the timeline every single time.
If you need anymore information from me, please say so. My problem is very simply complex, because I'm just stupid enough with this software to not understand how to ask my question properly.
I worked on a specific project 3 weeks ago and I can't find the progress for it anywhere. I don't want to open specific clips in the timeline. During that project session, I had put all of my clips in the timeline and was editing them in specific ways that required them all being on the timeline so I could get a very specific and seamless effect. How do I get all of that progress into the timeline?

Okay so if I go into the sub-menu that pops up that contains all of my video and audio clips and right click the FIRST clip in my entire progress and load that into timeline, all of my progress is loaded as well--why is this the case? And why does the project itself show as having 00:00:00 progress in it?

  • Corrupt Library Files, Disk Util: No Valid Packages, apps, plug-in probs

Darn, I could just kick myself. The current state of my computer is flashing me back to a nightmare from my pre-Mac days.
While backing up files to DVD I inadvertently/mistakenly/clumsily/stupidly (not sure) dragged what I thought was a copy of the Library folder I had created on my hd into Trash. When some of my apps stopped working and messages about missing internet plug-ins began to appear I realized I had screwed up. I ran Disk Utility a few times and either got the error message: "No Valid Packages" or a system hang. I attempted to repair the Library by moving files back to where I thought they should go and now have 2 Library files (syst and user) that have become a bit convoluted.
The good news is that I copied all of the files from both Libraries to my hd so I think I have everything saved. The bad news is that I don't know what goes where and I don't have a frame of reference, (ie the file structure) to work off of. For example, there is only one folder, (Library) inside the System folder and I can't remember if this is right or not. (System > Library > Automator, Caches, CFM Support etc.) My User Library looks intact but may have had some files shuffled around.
The way I see it, there are three alternatives or a combination thereof:
    1) Ideally, I'd like to be able to get the files where they belong and return the file hierarchy to it's correct state.
    2) Start more or less from scratch and re-install all of my effected apps, plug-ins, etc.
    3) I read about an archive function that uses the OS installation disk to return files to their proper places. Can't remember the exact name and haven't been able to find the knowledge base article.
TXIA for any advice you might offer that will help get me out this predicament.

Copying Library files is problematic because of permissions issues that arise when you then try to copy them back.
The procedure you're referring to is called Archive and Install which will install a fresh copy of OS X and archive the old system into a Previous System Folder. See the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
