"Lost" purchased ringtone on iPhone 5

I have two purchased ringtones on the iphone in iTunes and created several via garage band on my mac.  The two purchased ringtones initially bhaved and were available as one would expect.  They are now "missing" on the iphone.  They do not show up in the tones list.
In iTunes on my mac under the iphone device, they show up in Tones, checked, with an exclamation point on the left of the check mark.  They will not play.  They will not delete.
In iTunes on my mac they show up under purchased and under Tones and play fine.
The two ringtones do not show up as purchased on the iphone in the iTunes app.
Note: For a couple days the purchased ringtones were available and played fine.  The tones originating from Garage Band continue to be fine.  I did set up backing up my iphone to my mac in the interim.  The iphone is sync'd with iTunes.
What does the exclamation point mean?
Any thoughts on how to make these 2 tones available on the phone?
Thank You!

Hi,
I had the same problem but what I did was go into the tones section of itunes, select one of my purchased tones and got info, then deleted all of the info apart from the track name, synced all tones with my iphone 4s and they are now on there.
Hope this helps
Well, this solved it.  Apparently changing the info, changed the file, and enabled the corrupted files on the iphone to be overwritten.  Clever - thank you.  A more "above board" approach would be preferred.  But hey, clever, thanks.

  • Syncing Purchased Ringtones To IPhone

I'm having difficulty getting my purchased ringtones to show up in my ringtone file so that I may use. Any suggestions?

Where did you get the ringtones?
The ONLY place to get ready made ringtones is from the ringtones section( not music) of the itunes store on the iphone itself.
If they are not under "Ringtones" under "Library" in itunes, then they are not ringtones.
If you bought them from your computer or the music section of your iphone, then you need to create the ringtones.
    Have you created the ringtones?
There are several ways to do this. Google will find them.
    I prefer Garageband.

  • Purchased ringtone on iPhone then sync'd with iTunes now I can't use it!

    Hi,
    Hope you can help.
I purchased a ringtone in iTunes on my iPhone which immediately showed up under ringtones in the settings menu. However, when I sync'd with iTunes on my Mac the ringtone has disappeared from the list of selectable ringtones on the iPhone. The ringtone is showing in iTunes under the Ringtones tab in Devices > iPhone and it shows that it will "sync all ringtones" but for some reason is not showing up on my iPhone as a selectable ringtone to use after sync.
    Any ideas?
I am running Snow Leopard, iTunes 9, and iPhone 3GS with 3.0.1.
    Thanks!

Thanks Luke - I did that and it worked. The iphone is primarily linke to my laptop. I then linked to our shared itunes machine to download some music from our library, that worked fine. However when I link to my machine, I can see the ringtone in ringtone folder, in the purchased folder and in purchased on the iphone folder but I can't get it back onto the phone. I have tried Sync and Transfer purchases, drag and drop and finally tried the authorise again as a last resort but nothing seems to work. Has anyone got any ideas?

  • Lost Purchased Ringtones with iOS 5

Iknow there have been a lot of issues coming up today with iOS 5 but I have a new one here and I am looking for some help.  I went to set my ringtone and realized none of my purchased ringtones are listed.  I tried going through iTunes on the phone to get them back, but they aren't listed in the purchased area and if I look them up in the iTunes store it doesn't show them like I purchased them.  Please help.  Thanks in advance

    Hey everyone,
I have a ringtone that I downloaded (not purchased) that wasn't showing up on my phone, but was showing up in iTunes. I tried the uncheck/sync/check/sync routine, but that didn't work.
So here's an alternative that worked for me, and I hope works for anyone else with a similar problem.
    1) Delete the ringtone from the phone.
    2) Delete the ringtone from the appropriate folder in iTunes (iTunes Music > Ringtones).
    3) Add the ringtone file back to the Ringtones folder in iTunes.
    4) Drag the ringtone to the iPhone icon in the iTunes sidebar.
    5) Sync your phone.
    6) Check your ringtone list in your phone's Ringtones window from Settings. It SHOULD be there now.
Please note this applies to downloaded or self-made ringtones. I've never purchased ringtones from iTunes, so I don't know if those are handled differently. Still, I hope this helps if the re-syncing option doesn't pan out!

  • No purchased ringtones from iPhone in iTunes on computer and/ or on iPhone?

I purchased all the ringtones from the iTunes Store on my IPhone 4S using OS 5.1.0. Then the update came from Sprint and Apple and as usual I reset the phone before I updated to OS 5.1.1. I was able to redownload and install the apps I wanted (I never reinstall all the apps I have bought when I reset and update the phone) and I was able to redownload all the music I bought but all the ringtones that I bought are gone and could not be found anywhere to be redownloaded. I went on my computer with Windows 7 as OS and iTunes version 10.6.1.7 and ringtones were not in the "Tones" section of the "Library" or "My iPhone 4S". They also were not in the "Purchased" section of the "Store".
I tried going to one of the ringtones I bought in the iTunes Store on my iPhone 4S and I got the message that I already had purchased the tone earlier on and if I wanted to repurchase it. I tried that and I got charged again and then that one ringtone showed up as a ringtone in my ringtones settings on the phone. It did not show up anywhere in my iTunes on my computer. Since I bought about 50 ringtones I am not very interested to get recharged for all of them to get them back on my phone.
I tried downloading all previously purchased items in my iTunes and all the ringtones including the one I re-bought were not available.
This is truly frustrating to me and I would like my purchased ringtones back on my phone, could anyone help me please? Already sent in a support ticket to Apple, anyone else going through this mess?
Thank you so much if anyone could and would help me with this matter.

Can someone please help? I have this same problem except ONE of my 10 ringtones transferred when apple replaced my iphone 4s with a new one. One of my friends is also having this same problem

  • How to find purchased ringtones on iPhone 4s

I'm new to all this. New to iPhone, new to smart phones, basically new to iTunes - I've had the software on my computers for years, somewhere along the line I created an account but really never used iTunes.
I bought a ringtone on my phone and want to put in on my wife's phone - we share the same iTunes account. After I purchased the ringtone, it showed up in my ringtones fine. However I can't figure out how to get it on the other phone, while playing around trying to find the way I went to the store from my phone, from the ringtones settings and can't even find that purchase at all. I know I was charged for it. When I look at recent purchases it has options for:
    Music
    Movies
    TV Shows
When I tap Music it shows all the music we've purchased but no ringtones - no option for Ringtones or Tones on recent purchases so I'm lost, please help and remember, I come from a Windows background and am not that fimilar with iTunes. I've googled for restoring lost ringtones but all the directions seem to be for a previous version of iTunes because I can't find what they are talking about.
    Thank You for your help!!

while I was playing around last night in between your answers to my questions I hit 'Consolidate Files' on the right click for the ringtone and didn't restart iTunes, didn't think about it last night but if the files were moved maybe iTunes needed to be restarted. I do not know this software but I'm guessing that is the cuase of my problems.
However I did hit Revert and Apply so I don't know.
On iTunes when you click menu File > Library > Organize Library... > Consolidate Files, you are letting iTunes manage your content, it will make a copy of your content to the path where iTunes keeps indices, media structures, etc.
It is a good idea to do that since it will update the database as well.
I am wondering if I should delete the back-ups for both phones and start over following your procedures again, I'm just a bit leary to do that. If I go that route, would I need to deregister and re-register phones too?
You can delete the backups in iTunes > Preferences...(Windows: Edit > Preferences...) > Devices > delete the backup here. After that, you can right click on iPhone in iTunes sidebar and do a fresh new Backup.

No, you do not need to de-register and re-register iPhones.

  • I purchase ringtones on iphone, but they don't show up as purchased in itunes and i can't transfer from iphone to itunes.

I have an iphone 3 on which i downloaded ringtones, two of which are not showing in itunes.  I now just purchased the iphone 4s.  When I synced the ringtones, those two were of course missing.  How do I get itunes to recognize that I purchased those ringtones on the iphone 3?
    Thanks!

Well Defcom, your last response didn't fix it, however, it helped!
You had me delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and com.apple.ichatAgent.plist. I did that and restarted with no luck. However, when I was in there, I found one other file that was related that you didn't mention, com.apple.ichat.plist. I deleted it too, restarted and boom, it works and she shows up now. Also, the fonts and such are working properly now too haha. So while you didn't solve it, you pretty much did! Thanks for your timely and helpful responses!

  • Lost Purchased Ringtones

I need some help. I went to hook my phone up to my computer to add some songs. When I did I backed my phone up. After backing it up I went to add my songs. When I got done my contacts were gone. And so were all the ringtones I purchased. How do I  get them back?

Do you have copies of them in the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library or on your backup of your library ? If not, and if they are still in your country's store, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Ios 8.2 and lost purchased ringtones

I Have updated to iOS 8.2 and have noticed my purchased ring tones have gone missing.
Can anyone assist in getting these restored please or do we have to wait for Apple to realise they have cocked up again ??

The ring tone is on my commuter and I have made a sync the phone still does not have the ring tone on it.

  • Purchased ringtone  iphone 4 that is not in my itunes library when i click transfer purchases from it appears in the tones library but in a paler shade of print with a dotted circle to the left of it when i take any action it disappears

have purchased ringtone on iphone 4 not in my itunes library when i click devices, transfer purchases from, it appears in tones in my library but in a paler shade of print with a dotted circle to the left of it, if i try to click on it or take any other action it disappears and leave a blank space i have tried this several time i want to transfer library to my new iphone 5 but i will loose the ringtone

I had the exact same issue!! Seriously p*ssed me off when I checked out my ITunes purchased items (via my computer) and noticed that most of the additional tracks listed on my IPhone playlist was listed there too. However, I never authorized any purchases!!  (I have actually written Apple Support asking for a full refund of all tracks listed on my purchased list)
Be careful when you swipe your finger to the left/right on those "additional" tracks on your IPhone playlist... I'm pretty sure that the cloud symbol is an option to download or automatically buy those tracks.
    Solution for the problem:
1 - go to your IPhone settings
    2 - choose "iTunes & App Store"
3 - go to "Show All" & "Music"
4 - turn off "Music" by moving the bar to the left (it should be a white color once you turn it off)
    Should solve your problem :~)
