Lost Quick Time

I was downloading video's on Live Wire and all of a sudden my QT plug in stopped working. It would download the sound but not the video. The site said by browser did not have the correct QT plugin. So I went to the Apple QT download page and downloaded what I thought the plugin might be. Still no luck. Even on one of the plug in pages a greyed out Q was on the screen. I checked QT in my preferences and looked at the plug in's that were available and all were checked, e.g., flash, Dvix etc. I'm at a loss. Short of reloading Safari again I would like to ask some pro's on what to do. I did a Disk Utility and found some problems with the latest iPhoto download but nothing else. Any ideas?

First of all don't use LimeWire or any other P2P. Half the stuff on there is po*rn and the other half is full of viruses and spyware (which probably wouln't affect a Mac but you never know). It will screw up your machine plus it is illegal for copyrighted content.

My computer has lost all data/programmes including Quick Time Pro

After a virus infection I had to wipe my laptop clean of all files including, sadly, Outlook Express with over 7 years of emails on it! One of these contained the information for Quick Time Pro which I paid to have in about September 2007. Having no information with which to log in as a Pro customer I am unsure if I have to pay all over again to rejoin. Can I still use the old password? How do I obtain it once more? Any help from other PC users would be gratefully received.

Final cut lost audio tracks lost in quick time

hello,
I seem to be losing audio tracks when I make a quick time movie from Final cut Hd for making a dvd in IDVD.
The audio source is ok.
I have up to 12 tracks of audio, but this only happens when it feels like it, the tracks work in different places on the timeline.
I render audio mixdown.

Hi Jeremy,
Your first step would be to delete all the audio render files and re-render and do another audio mixdown. It could be as simple as a corrupt render file. If that doesn't work, post back.

Quick Time Pro 7.0.1 - mpg2 lost

I had to back to my old version of OSX. Now I have 10.4.2 and 7.0.1 of Quick Time Pro. But when I try export material from Final Cut Pro 4.5, there's no possibility to export as MPG2 (from Quick Time Conversion). I hadn't any problems earlier with it. Help!

I believe MPEG-2 export via QuickTime was actually enabled by DVD Studio Pro application (not FCP).

Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?

Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.
All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible?
I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

How do I uninstall firefox 4 and use the previous version. I do lots of work related tasks that require quick time to work and it doesn't with ff4.o.

Quick time crashes and I have lost almost all sounds/video sound capability with the new ff4.0. I want to remove it and replace it with the previous version until the bugs are fixed.

Maybe wait another day because Firefox 5.0 will be released on June 21 and maybe that version works better.

You can click the Volume icon on the Windows Taskbar near the clock and click the Mixer link at the bottom to open the mixer.<br />
You can adjust the volume level for each application in that window, so make sure that Firefox is not muted or set at a low level.<br />
You will only see the Firefox program in the Mixer if you are on a website that plays sound.<br />

Making a Quick Time for Export needs no rendering?

Is it true that when you Export a Sequence as a Quick Time you don't need to render, that it renders itself? That's what someone told me. That would save me hours of lost time! Thank you in advance.

No...rendering happens as it exports. It'll render the frame, then export the frame. It will not save any time at all. IN fact, in some cases, it adds time. Do a test. 2 min sequence...unrendered. Time it...render, then export. And then undo the renders...and just export. It will take the same amount of time.
The best part about rendering and then exporting is that you now have a rendered sequence you can play back. If you just export...the renders only appear in the exported file.

What version of iPhoto are you using?
This is the the first time I have ever launched it.
Does that mean there are no photos in the library? If so move it to the Trash bin in the Dock and launch iPhoto again.
If there are photos in the library do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Quick Time 7

Quick Time 6 was working OK. When I upgraded to Quick Time 7 there was no change in the video but I lost all sound. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I am using Windows XP.

With that one, let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now run the utility (“Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up”), select any QuickTime entries in the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, and then click “Remove”.
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
7. Restart your computer.
Does an iTunes install go through properly now?

I have upgraded to IOS 7 and now I wish I did not as I have lost face time and iMessage and they would not get activated no mater what I have tried .it seems they are trying to get connected but are unable to do so.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

Quick Time Failure to initalize

HELP I have tried all of the suggested remedies laied out in itunes support for loading / unloading Quick time and iTunes. They were working before I lost my hard drive with all of my operating systems. I am unable to start Itunes. Quick time v.7.1.3 play mpeg files without sound

From day to an other day, I dont know why, but quick time stop to produce sound and it is affect too the player of Itunes. It is the same effect for all my mpeg files.
My mpeg, codec MPEG1 muxed, files look ok because mplayer OSX play them correctly.

Hi! I'm having a similar issue. Also on QT 7.1.3 and the latest Flip4WMV, all of the sudden a couple of days ago I lost audio on my MPEG files. In addition, when the video first starts, it pauses for 0.5-2s and then starts playing. The audio indicators at the bottom show a quick spike and then nothing.
I opened the Audio MIDI Setup and under the Audio Output section is says Output Is Not Supported! I also tried the Garageband trick and it does not work.
WMV and MP4 video play just fine. It's only regular MPEG files (I assume MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). And all my files play just fine in VLC and MPlayer2.
Any help would be appreciated.

No more Quick Time pro

6 monyhs ago, i uppgrade and payed to Quick time pro. I got the Licensnumber and I have the Ordernumber, in my diarybook.
After uppgrade till Leopard, I have Quick,time, but not Pro. When I try to put the licensnumber in to the line, meeages telling me wrong figgers. I like to send a mail to Appel and tell them, I like to have back my Quick Time Pro. Yhere is no way I can be in tuch with them.
Do you have some sugestiance.
