Lost ratings during data migration to new mac

I recently bought the new macbook pro and had the applestore migrate my entire data to from my old macbook. Absolutely everything worked out fine except that I lost all ratings in Lightroom version 2. As I have around 15,000 pics and most of them rated I am a bit desperate. Lucky enough I still have my old macbook working and also have a back up where the ratings are still showing. How can I combine the old ratings with the ratings of my new catalog, as I have already rated more pics on my new mac. Thanks

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

  • How do I migrate data to a new Mac?

    A) what is the correct sequence to migrate all my data to a new Mac?
    B) does the migration create an exact duplicate of what is in my "home" folder? Including paths to external hard drives that have movies, photos, etc on them? Such as an external iTunes library?
    C) what cables do I need for the data transfer? USB? Ethernet?
    Thanks

There are many methods to transfer to a new Mac. OS X can migrate just about anything into the new or current operating system. (A)
    * If you have an External Hard Drive (Time Machine setup) and backed up everything, OS X can restore the current files onto the new Mac. All it requires is your current credentials stored on the system. (B)
    * If you are migrating without an External Hard Drive and you are using a USB Cable, it will detect your computer and perform the transfer automatically after plugged in and following the tutorials (C)
(If you are using Windows and copying the files, you can use a USB transfer cable or copy/paste to the EHD. It's not recommended to use Windows Backup as it will be encrypted)
If you have purchased iPhoto or Aperture, you can tell it to scan your computer and EHD for the photos and videos already stored and it will copy them onto their own location folder after following simple settings.
On a restore, iTunes will import your library of music, videos, and applications and have it ready to sync with your device.
You can also perform a restore of your music, videos and applications (but not photos sadly) via iPhone or iPod or iPad after following two steps:
    * Store / Authorize Account (with device plugged in)
    * Right click iPhone / Transfer purchases from iPhone
    * Device will quote then sync automatically

  • Back up data to a new Mac.

When you buy a new MAC, you can back up your data, to the new MAC.
You can do this process at very beginning when you first set up your new MAC or you can do later, at any time, by using Migration Assistant.
What are the difference by using the two procedures? What are the good and not good things?
    Thank you

When you do it when you first setup the Mac, there is no chance of synchronization issues of old and new data.
If you do it later, you have to be careful to backup any essential data first to an external source before importing, as it may be overwritten in the synchronization process by accident.

  • How can we upload questionnaire to CRM 2007 during data migration activity?

    Hi all,
I have an requirement where i have to upload questionnaires from an existing CRM system to SAP-CRM 2007 during data migration activity.
i just go through what are questionnaires, how we can create them and how we can assign them to transactions.
how can i upload during data migration activity ?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the 'Upload.aspx' page was missing or corrupted from many document libraries after migration to 2010 from 2007.
Per my knowleadge, the upgrade process sets the SPWeb.CustomUploadPage property for upgraded sites to a custom upload page titled
uploadex.aspx, as opposed to upload.aspx which is the default page for file uploads. And this custom upload page contains the “Destination Folder” field.
To removes the custom upload page (uploadex.aspx) from SPWeb, and reverts back to the default upload page (upload.aspx), we can use PowerShell script to loop through all Web sites that are contained within the site collection, including the top-level site
and its subsites, and checks to see if the SPWeb.CustomUploadPage property is not equal to blank. If true, then it sets the SPWeb.CustomUploadPage property to blank.
Here is a great blog for your reference:
Destination Folder field in site upgraded from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010

  • "Extended Photo Info" lost/invisible after migration to new Mac with 10.6.2

I just migrated my iPhoto library to my new Mac running OSX 10.6.2 from a Mac running OSX 10.3 I did this by copying the "Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder to an external drive. Today I tried to use "Show Extended Photo Info", and information appears to be lost? There is no Camera or Exposure information. I re-imported a photo from an old e-mail, and it does have the information! Do the Event/Location/Face features cause this to be deleted from my photos? I used these feature a lot before noticing anything was wrong.
Any ideas? Can I somehow check to see if the JPEG file still has the information? It is not too late to re-do the library import. I cannot live without the exposure information, as I like to play with my camera settings.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After copying the library to the external HD did you open it directly with iPhoto? When iPhoto 09 converted that library to the latest version it would not have done anything to lose the EXIF data which is stored in the library's database files.
You didn't import that library into a new library did you? If you didn't then try rebuilding the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • After migrating to new mac, email folders are lost.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer files and data from my old MacBook Air to my new MacBook Air. Everything seems to have transferred just fine, except for my email folders. I have tried plugging in Time Machine to restore them from my backups on my old mac, but the new mac doesn't recognize backups on the old one, so I can't access it through Time Machine while in the mail program. So then I tried searching for my mail files, which (according to what I've read) should be in Library/Mail, but I have no Mail folder that I can find by that path (or, really, by any other). I believe both macs are running Mountain Lion.

That Library folder is actually the one in your home folder, which is hidden. You can view it by clicking the Go menu in Finder while holding the Option key down - you'll then see a shortcut to Library.
The mail is held in ~/Library/Mail/V2, inside folders named for each mail account. You should be able to use the File - Import Mailboxes menu in Mail to retrieve them.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro. All data from prior Mac was migrated to new Mac. If I run Time Machine and "inherit" the old backups will TM take up where I left off, or delete and overwrite the current data?

I have a new Macbook Pro. All data from prior Mac was migrated to the new Mac. I want to continue Time Machine on the new Mac and retain the history. An option is to "inherit" the old Time Machine. I want to make sure this does not errase the current data, but creates a current backup.

  • Does Migration Assistant copies all iTunes/iPhoto data to the new Mac?

I currently placed all my iphoto and itunes data on an external harddrive in my current setup. I have a MacMini 2010. Im planning to upgrade its HARDDRIVE with a smaller capacity but faster SSD.
So here goes my question... (the fact is, i haven't tried Migration Assistant ever, hence these troubling questions..)
I would keep my old harddrive intact as it used to be. I would install the SSD on the MacMini and do a clean install of OSX Lion which is also the current version of my OS in the old HARDDRIVE. I'm planning to attach the OLD HARDDRIVE using an HD enclosure and connect it using USB/Firewire externally. If i use, Migration Assistant to copy my settings and files in the OLD HARDDRIVE, will it also copy all my itunes/iphoto data into the new SSD? (music and photo data that are stored in an EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE right now) - meaning itunes and iphoto data folders are in an external hard drive.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit. Im hoping itunes and iphoto would just LINK all those files as it used to be on my EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE and NOT COPY it to my small capacity SSD.
Do you get it? Please ask me if you don't. I just want to make sure a smooth transition to the new SSD if i push thru.

You can restore your iPod to "New" which will erase every thing and install fresh iOS software or you can restore to a particular backup that you have previously created. In this case, your iPod Apps & data will appear as per the backup. Note that some content is not in a backup and will need to be synced back to the iPad from the iTunes music library or from, for example, the iPhoto photo library.

  • IPhoto Migration to new Mac--MAJOR ISSUES

We just got a new iMac to replace our previous 2006 iMac that was running Mountain Lion. It had already been determined by a Mac repair person that our old iPhoto library was corrupted and that we couldn't migrate that Library to the new Mac. Rather, we'd need to drag the "Originals" folder to the new Mac. Note: Due to the amount of photos we have, we store our photos on an external hard drive. (Also, nevermind that the 35K photos that were so carefully organized into folders and albums over the past 8 years would be lost). Fine. That's what we did. Major issues ensued:
    1. Everytime I've imported photos from my iPhone over the past two years, random photos (mostly those that I edited in Apps like hipstogram) multiplied and were reimported EVERYTIME I plugged my phone in the Mac. There are, like 10 copies of certain photos.
    2. Many photos are somehow duplicated, but in different "rolls." How do I even find the duplicates? They're dated when they were imported, not created. Grrr...
    3. During the import to the new Mac, an error message let us know that 795 photos were not imported. Which ones? Don't know.
    4. The WORST issue of all, a lot of the metadata on the photos is incorrect. Some is user error (Canon camera had the year as 2007 when it was really 2008), but a lot of photos imporated from the iphone over the years are saying 1/20/1980 or another nonsensical date. Or the photos are dated as the date of import, not when they're taken. So, not only did I lose the organization of the library, the metadata is incorrect. For many of the 35 thousand photos over 12 years.
The result? A jumbled nightmare of "Events" that aren't in chronological order in the new iPhoto.
Sidenote: Why can I navigate to the Originals photo files in the old Mac, but I cannot navigave via the finder to the Originals in the new Mac? The only way I can get there is to click "Go to original file" from iPhoto...and even then, its location is unclear.
I don't know what to do from here. The options as I see them:
    1. Clean up the duplicates/metadata in the old Originals folder and re-import the folder to the new Mac.
    2. Start with the current debacle on the new Mac and painstackingly reorganize all the folders (cleaning up, correcting dates).
Another sidenote: Is there a way to delete a photo in iPhoto and truly delete the file? I started deleting duplicates on the new iMac and I have to navigate to the original file (in its mysterious location), delete it, and then delete the thumbnail in iPhoto. This may take a year or two to complete. There has a be a better way. Help.....me.....

Our Mac person determined that our library was corrupted because various attempts to rebuild the cache/library were unsuccessful (spinning wheel and error messages).
try to reproduce this on your old computer nad report the exact error messages (and look at the iPhoto menu ==> about iPhoto to get the version)
So, from what I understand, the best path forward would be to fix/rebuild the old library to be able to migrate it to the new machine
    Yes
I do have a question about deleting photos in iPhoto. How do I handle eliminating duplicate photos in an iPhoto library (new or old)? My understanding is that deleting an image in iPhoto does not delete the actual file (in originals or masters or where ever it is housed on the Mac). Does this matter? Why would deleting photos in iPhoto cause corruption of the library?
Duplicates - IPLM does them very well
And most certainly deleting using iPhoto properly does totally remove the photo form iPhoto and from th ehard drive
Deleting in iPhoto is trivial - select a photo in an event, press the delete key and empty the iPhoto trash (do not let the iPhoto trash get large since sometimes iPhoto does not handle large trash bins well) - on later versions then you need to empty the system trash too
Do that and the photo is gone from iPhoto and from the Mac (given that you have a corrupted library past deletes might not have worked - from a properly working library it will work)
Deleting using iPhoto will not corrupt anything
    BUT you stated
I started deleting duplicates on the new iMac and I have to navigate to the original file (in its mysterious location), delete it,
That is NOT using iPhoto to delete photos - it is using the finder to go directly into the contents of the iPhoto library and makeing changes  - that corrupts the database

  • After Migration to new Mac Pro, intermittent slow downs, SROD's

I started with a my intel mac mini, Leopard OS was installed on an external Firewire drive, most applications were installed on another partition of that same drive. I bought a new mac pro 8 core, and an additional firewire external drive that I set up as my Time Machine drive on my old mac mini. I did a full backup of my old mac mini system and then attached the time machine drive and the other external hard drive to my new mac pro. I used the migration assistant to transfer files to my new mac pro. However, now there appears to be something occuring between my internal mac pro hard drive and the old external hard drive from my mac mini. When using some applications, Itunes, Logic Pro, Firefox, the ap will hang and appears to be trying to access files from the old external drive. I hope I'm being clear with what the issue is. I'm thinking duplicate files on this external drive and my internal drive are causing some problems? I need to know how to repair the issue, and preserve my data files?

    bb240z wrote:
Thanks for your quick response. I know I've been somewhat confusing here. I'm running the latest Snow Leopard update on my mac pro now.
Then please update your profile, as it still shows the mini and Leopard.
And I'll ask a Host to move this to the Snow Leopard > Time Machine forum.
All the aps and data were migrated onto the internal HD in the mac pro, and the aps and files and directory structures, etc. are still also on the external drive that used to comprise the OS of my mac mini. I'm thinking that may be part of the issue, but I'm new to Mac and not certain of that or how to fix the issues.
Depending on how you did that, I'm not sure everything on those partitions got on to the new Mac's HD. Check that first, via the Finder.
Let's start with iTunes and/or iPhoto.
First see if you have the same stuff in both places. Use the Finder to see how large each is on the external HD, and compare that to the iTunes and iPhoto folders on your internal HD.
If they're not on your internal HD at all, use these instructions to move them:
    Moving your iTunes Music folder
    Moving your iPhoto library
If the versions on the external are newer than the ones on your internal, delete the ones on the internal and use those instructions to move from the external to the internal.
But don't delete the versions on the external just yet. Eject and disconnect it, and make sure everything's fine. It won't hurt to leave the data there for a while, especially as long as it's disconnected.
If the music or photos on your HD are the same, or newer, hold down the Option key while starting iTunes or iPhoto. That will give you a prompt where you can select which one you want to use.
Once you've selected the ones you want, eject and disconnect the external. Then use as many apps as you can, to see if everything works properly and all your data is found.
Without knowing what other apps you have, and how they work, I can't tell in advance whether any others will be looking for the external drive. If you get error messages, you'll have to deal with each app that seems lost.
I'd be inclined to keep the old external "on the shelf" for quite a while, just to be sure nothing got missed.
Have you started doing Time Machine backups of the new Mac yet? When you do, you'll get a prompt about whether to "re-use" the Mini's backups. See #B5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum. You probably want to select "Re-use," especially if there's a considerable amount of space on your TM drive.

  • We can see thumbnails of horizontal photos but can't see full size photos after data transfer to new mac

    hello,
We just updated to a new mac from a 7 year old Mac because the logic board died. =The Apple reseller did a data transfer and now we cannot see full size photos on our new screen. We see the thumb nails but when we try to open a photo in the photo section of the library we get a black screen with an exclaimation mark. How do we fix this?
    thanks!

When you first boot your new Mac, it will boot into Setup Assistant. It will walk you through registration and then ask you if you want to migrate. Choose the disk you want to migrate from and choose all settings. No newer apps will be overwritten with older ones. No third party software will be lost. Although you should check compatiblity of apps with ML.

  • Data migration to new macbook via external usb?

So I have a macbook pro right now and am looking at getting a macbook. I want to use the data migration assistant during the macbook setup to keep all my files, applications and things from the mbp.
The question is can I use a external usb drive to do this or does it have to be firewire? I wouldn't actually have both computers at the same time, so I would create a restore on the external usb and just plug that intot he new macbook. Would that do?
If not and I need firewire, would a simple usb to firewire adapter work?
    Thanks

Patience sir. People who have an answer will post. If no one does, it's probably too esoteric for most. See "A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs" at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=580146. That should get you started.
