Lost Recent Files and Browsers
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on my MacBook running OSX 10.5. In the last few days it no longer shows my recent files, and it no longer has my Browsers listed. It tells me "Unable to read Preview in Browser Preferences. Please remove all Browsers from the list and add them again." I do so (but nothing to remove) adding Firefox as my Primary Browser and Safari as my Secondary (the 2 Browsers I have on my computer.) But it doesn't add either of them. And I get the same message next time.
Also my Recent Files no longer show up. It just says "Recent Files" and is greyed out. I didn't make any changes to this, and don't see a place in the Preferences to set this.
Please let me know how to restore these 2 things. They both went missing at the same time, so I'm guessing they're related. I haven't noticed any other things amiss. Thanks for your help.
This could be a sign of a corrupted cache file or personal configuration folder.
First try deleting the file cache.

If that doesn't work, delete your DW Personal Configuration folder.

Hope this helps,

The original user profile on my windows 8.1 pc is C:\Apple\acer sm. I tried changing it to C:\Apple\Apple. After I rebooted my PC, I found out that all my files and applications are lost. What shall I do to recover them?
Your help would save my life. Thank you!Hi AppleMist,
We wonder if you changed the registry entry or path of user profile.
If you did that in registry please try changing it back.
After changing your user profile and reboot, system won’t read the profile you changed but a new user profile (C:\Apple\acer sm or TEMP) should be created by system. Try renaming this new one as acer sm.old and changing the apple back to acer sm.
It should works fine if you didn’t change file in profile, if it doesn’t work perform a system restore.
Regards
D. Wu

Select most recent file and display
I've been considerig this and I am closer to how I expect it to work
This is what I have so far but can't peice together just yet.
Get the current open folder window look for the last item if shot within the last 30 secs of the creation date, if shot within 30 secs then select/highlight the file and use system events to press keystroke y using cmd and option down.(to put it on the screen in full screen) Display for 15 secs, or if esc hit then wait for next file to arrive and so on.
If the window is closed of the current open folder then end applescript.
This is how far I have got but can't link the ideas together well.
set theWindow to name of front window of application "Finder"
set theWindow to name of front window of application "Finder"
set theFldr to path of theWindow
tell application "Finder"
set theContents to sort items of theFldr by creation date
set theLastimage to (contents of item 1 of theContents) as text
--is it within the last 30 seconds?
-- yes, then
tell application "System Events"
keystroke "y" using {command down, option down}
delay 15
key code 53
--then wait for arrival of next image. and repeat.
--if theWindow is close end applescript.
end tell
end tellHi,
If you don't want to use a folder action, try this :
try
tell application "Finder" to set currFolder to name of front Finder window
on error
return -- no Finder window
end try
set tDate to (current date) - 30
repeat
set b to false
tell application "Finder"
set fWindows to Finder windows whose it's name is currFolder
if (fWindows is not {}) then
set tWind to item 1 of fWindows
set nFiles to document files of tWind whose creation date > tDate -- get newer files
set tDate to (current date)
if nFiles is not {} then
reveal nFiles
my selectionfullScreen(currFolder, count nFiles)
set b to true
end if
else
exit repeat -- quit the script, the current Folder is closed
end if
end tell
if not b then delay 5 -- no recent files, wait 5 seconds
end repeat
on selectionfullScreen(tName, n)
tell application "System Events"
tell process "Finder"
set frontmost to true
keystroke "y" using {command down, option down}
repeat (15 * n) times
tell window 1 to if (exists) and (its title is tName) then return -- the user close QuickLook
delay 1
end repeat
tell window 1 to if (exists) and (its title is not tName) then key code 53 -- close QuickLook after (15 seconds X (number of images))
end tell
end tell

An update was requested in my iphone settings to sync my iphone with itunes. In my attempt to do this, I chose to sync with my old phone and lost all recent photos and apps. Is there any way to reverse this mess and retrieve what I had?
So, what i need to is
1. Check my iphone backup first if avaiable
2. Do ' restore ' my iphone at itunes
Is it correct?
After i do all of this, what is the next step? Is it
1. Just plug in back my iphone and itunes will automatically sync asking to use a backup ipnone?
Or need to do manually?
Make me confuse is, if i do all the step as previous mention, but pc still recognize my iphone as a ipod everytime i plug in into itunes.
How if i in pc dont have my iphone backup ? Because since first time plug in into itunes, i was used the ipod backup?
Sorry to ask too much since i really need help from your guys -

Hi - Hoping someone can help us out. We got a new computer about two years ago and recently realised that we are unable to play old songs which we had uploaded from various CDs and other media into our itunes library. When clicking on the song it brings up a popup saying that the original file could not be located. I have tried to find it through Windows Explorer but it still isnt working.
Ay help would be much appreciated

Recent files and volatile user
Hello:
We use a volatile user with Zenworks 6.5 so the list of recent files gets wiped off once a user logs out. Is there anyway to change that? We would like to still use a volatile user accoutns, but we would also be able to keep the list of recently opened files so the user can use it after they log off. Thank You.Jakub Gorecki,

You can move the location of "recent" through the registry. Move it to the user's home directory.

Hi,
I have both an Ipad and Ipad2. Niether are syncing on my PC which uses XP Pro. My Iphone 4 is fine. Apple suggested there is a file (which I cant remember the name of) which needs to be added again to my PC as it is either corrupt or lost. Can anyone help please?
thanks
DanThanks for coming back to me.
Unfortunately I have tried to re-install Itunes and this has not helped. Apple did say that the file which is corrupt is not loaded on by Itunes and needs to be done manually.
Apple are helpful instore, however it was only after asking 8 people in different stores that they came up with this. It would be great is someone who has had a similar problem could let me know.
thanks

Can I restore photo files from Time Machine without the use of an external drive? While I was transferring photos back and forth from a thumb drive something went haywire and my IPhoto was wiped clean! When I click on Time Machine I see all the dated pages (without an external storage drive connected), go back to a date where all my photo files are there, click "restore", and I get the message: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in file cant be read or written (error code - 36)"
Thanks so much Terence. I tried some of the fixes from that page, but then discovered the suggestion to compress the Time Machine Back up of the original library and transfer it as a zip back to my computer as detailed here:
http://pondini.org/TM/E9.html
That worked like a charm. I really appreciate it. -
HELP !My laptop is died Ive used recovery disc which restored it but ive lost my music but it isstil on my ipod how can i put it back in itunes library without syncing + losing it all?
Transfer iTunes' purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Tranfer other stuff by using the info in this previous discusssion.
Best iPod to PC
After you get the stuff in your iTunes library you may have to let iTunes erase the iPod and replace it s contents with what is now in your iTunes library. -
HT1766 I replaced an iPhone4 with 5 and restored it, lost recent texts and other info
I replaced an iPhone4 with iPhone 5. The 4 hadnt been backed up to laptop in about 4 months. I plugged my new 5 into my laptop, iTunes came up and I chose to restore it (instead of setting up as new phone, which I thought would cause me to lose all my info). I guess this was the wrong choice since it looks like all recent info is gone. Is there any way to get back the past 4 months worth of texts/info that is now gone?
Do you still have your iPhone 4, and, if so, does it still have your current info?
If so, you can back it up, then clear your iPhone 5 by doing Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
Then you would be shown the iPhone (5) Setup Assistant, which would again allow you to restore from a backup. This time, the backup would be more current. -
My iPhone lost all files and the screen won't turn on
I was using my iphone not suddenly all filies have been removed and the screen won't turn on and the phone is charged
How do you know all files have been removed if the screen won't turn on?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up. -
HT204382 how can i upload from my touch back to my mac lost all files and i dont want to lose music
help
I believe it is due to copyright issues, but regardless, Apple does not make uploading from the ipod to your computer possible out of the box. There are freeware applications out there, like on Version Tracker, that will do this. The easiest solution to the question you posed is to simply import the desired CDs into your itunes library, then sync.
Secondly, this question is better suited to the ipod forum.
Hope this helps,
Jeff
