Lost Recovery Disks, what now?

I've got a Satellite A135-S5427 running Vista and a stupid question.
It boots, but hangs when it tries to start up Explorer. I can run Task Manager but Explorer doesn't work. I assume that explorer.exe was corrupted.
Normally I would copy this from my Vista disk, but I don't have any of the disks that came with the computer. Is there a place I can get new copies of the disks, or some other way to salvage this?
Thanks!

You can order replacement Recovery Medai via the information found in this post.

    Hi,
There may be a work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
If you don't have access to a retail disc, you can create an installation disc yourself - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-link...
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

  • Iphone stuck in recovery mode, what now

Updating iTunes has nothing to do with an iDevice going into recovery mode.
If the device is in recovery mode, restore it via iTunes on a computer.

  • I lost the disks.  Now have new computer.  How do I install the disks?

I purchased Photoshop CS years ago.  The disks have become lost.  The computer I was using had to be replaced.
About 2 – 3 weeks ago I contacted you and got an activation key for installing the product on my new laptop, including the links required.  Unfortunately I forgot to write down the key before logging off. Then the laptop was found to be faulty and had to be replaced.  I now have a new laptop and would like to install Photoshop CS on it.
Is there any way you can help me?
    Thank  you.

  • Laptop stolen, lost 2000 songs, what now?

I know itTune is a "one way street" iTunes to IPod but is there any fix for this? I have my iPod but my laptop was stolen and I don't what will happen when I synch to my new laptop. Will the iPod go crazy since the source songs aren't in the new version?

    Shelly,
Here is a small ray of hope.....
As long as you have not reloaded much (or any) new information to the iPod, the following links will direct you to software that has a chance of recovering some or all of your iPod’s music files. Most are not shareware or freeware, so you may have to spend a little money..... Several members here have gotten good results from Recover4All.
This PodSalvage software will only work with Macs running OS X. See the PodSalvage page at SubRosaSoft.com: http://www.subrosasoft.com/MacSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=2
This link will give you several 'Erased iPod' recovery resources for both Mac and Windows users:
    http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45619
Make sure you read through many of the posts on the iLounge – some folks had good results, others had poor results. There seems to be a split camp on the effectiveness of recovery programs.
Either way, strongly consider a backup strategy after you recover/replace your music (as you already know)

My ichat app is missing, I have checked in spotlight and nothing.... I do not have a disk, I don't know what to do, can you guys help me??
    Thank you all in advance

If you installed the new Message beta program, it replaces iChat.  It should have what you need to do iChats.
You can use the uninstaller within the Message program to uninstall it and replace your iChat.
Disregard if you didn't download Messages beta.

  • Newbie Query regarding creation of Recovery disks and Backups

    Hello ppl/Admins,
Some clarification required (my questions might seem dummy ...but i have no choice).
I'm a newbie and just received my first laptop ever Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 (WinXP).
    My queries are:
    1) If i create a 'Complete Backup' under Lenovo care application will that include the entire hidden partition? Or do i need to  use some other software like Norton Ghost to  backup the entire image of the  hard drive?
    2)  Is there a way to only backup the hidden partition?
    3) I have noticed in other threads users refering to system and recovery disks, what/how are they used/created (i dont see any
create recovery disk option under lenovo care button)? How does a recovery or system disk differ from a backup?
My sole intention is to save/backup the hidden partition so that i could restore the laptop into its factory settings if things go wrong, so if anyone could help....it will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi atomic, if you look under the lenovo program file you will see two different entries that relate to restore / recovery, I'm not at my machine now to directly tell you what is called, other than one is towards the top half and the other nearer the bottom.
The one at the bottom has two options, the first is to create recovery media (I'm presuming this is for if rescue & recovery fails to boot up).
Under this there is then a 2nd option that refers to creating a restore cd, of which it will only let you make s single copy under MS licencing.  I'm of the impression that if required and used, it will take a user back to factory restore settings i.e. original factory restore as it arrived.  This I'm presuming will image the partition as well.
As for the other recovery option higher up the menu, this is for actuslly creating backups and restoring  system and/or files.

  • Recovery Disk Problems

    Hi guys,
I have ordered the recovery disk, and now I am trying to reinstall my system.
What I don't get is it is written on the envelope of the DVD, that "You will lose all the data on the hard disks".
And after starting the installation it asks again, if I am sure I want to start it, because I'll lose all my data.
So my question is, will it erase all my partitions??! Or it will format just partition C?
It would be absurd to have to copy 200GB of data from the other two partitions...!
Please tell me it won't delete the data from the other partitions!
    Thanks,

Even if somebody told me otherwise, I would always assume that the entire hard disk will be reconstructed.

  • How can I get Lion re installed after crash and no recovery disk?

I bought Lion some time ago I did not do a recovery disk and now I had a huge crash. I started over with Snow Leopard cause that's all I had. How can I get Lion re installed?

Make sure you're up to 10.6.8 through Software Updates, and then re-download Lion from the App Store.
Incidentally, many Macs (from 2010 models onwards) have the ability to run Internet Recovery, even if your original hard drive crashed, which will allow you to re-download and install Lion directly from the internet.
But the best way is always to have a local backup of your system drive.

  • Looking for Recovery disk for my Satellite A355D-S6921

    Hey there,
I can't start win7 anymore on my Satellite A355D-S6921, it reboots automatically before login screen. I tried to press the "0"(zero) Key, but no recovery options, nothing happens. I also tried to restore the drive to an earlier point using F8 options, but an error message comes up before finalization. I've pretty much tried anything I could find on forums, but it stills restart. I believe my solution is to use a recovery CD, but I don't have one, and I can't run windows to create one.
Please I would be really happy if someone could create one from his/her Satellite A355D, and Megaupload a Disk IMG !
Here are the steps to create a recovery Disk:
1 Click Start, All Programs, Toshiba, Recovery, and then
    Recovery Disc Creator.
2 Select DVD (to create Recovery media on DVDs).
3 Select the items you want to copy by clicking the check box
next to the items Namerecovery files, applications (original
bundled drivers and applications), or both the recovery files
    and applications.
    4 Click Create.
5 Insert the first blank DVD into your writable optical drive
    when prompted.
6 Follow the on-screen prompts for completing the copy process.

    Hi buddy,
I agree with the previous user. If HDD recovery doesnt work you have to use the Toshiba recovery disk. Now its too late for creating this disk and you it would be better posting this in US forum. I think in US forum are more people with US notebooks.
If you dont want to wait for somebodys help get in contact with an authorized service provider in your country. The guys can help you to order such a disk.

  • Trouble with recovery disks

As I was using my Toshiba L305 Laptop, It suddenly started to reboot. As it turned back on the Toshiba screen came up then a screen that said Missing Operating System. I tried to use the Recovery disks that came with the computer. I inserted the first disk and waited till it told me to insert the second disk. It stared running and stopped with a black screen that says windows failed to start. it said to insert my windows installation disk and restart my computer. It also says
    File;\Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
info: the selected entry could not be loaded bacause the application is missing or corupt
My question is if I order the recovery disks on this website will that restore my computer or do I need to have the actual Windows Vista program disks ( which I do not have). I wondered if Windows Vista is on the recovery disks. what is my best option. Thank you

Toshiba's recovery disks restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents. That includes Windows, drivers, utilities, and assorted junk.
Always tell us which Satellite L305 you have when you post here. There is a label on the bottom.

  • Does creating a recovery disk erase your computer?

I created a system recovery disk and now I can't find my videos, music, and pics

Creating a set of recovery disks should have absolutely no effect on your computer.  Just curious-how many dvds are in your set?

  • Equium A210 171 What info do i need before i use the recovery disk?

    Hi,
I have 1 recovery disk that came with my equium, haven't used it before.
On the back of the recovery disk envelope it says "insert the first disk"
I'm assuming there should be a second?
Also what info will i need to provide during the install process? like serial number?
All i have is a black and white sticker that's on the side of the box it came in, but that was so long ago.
I'm having lots of issues with windows installer not running and many others,
Windows updates won't work either and i've tried to fix those but a clean reinstall of the os was recommended.
Now at this point nothing will install because windows installer won't work.
So i think i wil lhave to attempt a clean install, but i'm not even sure the cd drive will work.
I have gotten a great run out of this laptop, bit slow for my needs today but over all great product, bought in 2007.
With a clean os and 4 gigs of ram this thing could last for years more, can't afford a new one right now.
I have really tried to avoid using a recovery disk in the past, as i've never had any serious issues till now.
    Thanks

Im wondering why you get such disk together with your notebook why? Because I did not get the recovery disk but I had to create one using the Toshiba Recovery disk creator software
But my notebook is newer than your A210 this might be the reason why you got such disk
I created a recovery disk and I needed two DVD disks I think these depends on the image file size
    > Also what info will i need to provide during the install process? like serial number?
This is not needed because your system was already activated.
But I recommend to backup your personal data because the recovery disk would format the whole HDD and you would lose the files.
PS: recommend reading the other threads in the Product recovery forum!
