Lost renders

I am working on a large HD project with a lot of rendered files. Problem is, every time I render a new piece of video, all the other renders are lost (I think they turn up in the trash - something from Final Cut is). This means that I'm regularly having to re-render the whole project and at the moment this is taking up to half and hour. I have completed many projects in Final Cut and not experienced this, although this is my first major HD project. The footage was shot on and captured from the Sony FX7.
Any suggestions or help gratefully received.

Final Cut will trash render files it thinks are no longer used in the sequence. I know it's a hassle, but trashing preferences and repairing permissions can help. If your timeline contains nested sequences, try opening all of your nested sequences and, leaving them open, go back to your master sequence and render. After it's done, close your nested sequences and version up (save as). This has worked for me once before.

  • Lost renders - weird

Hi All - I have a feature project that arbitrarily seems to lose it's renders at different times under different circumstances. The lost renders are not in the trash, they are right where they should be in the render file. Nothing in particular seems to provoke their loss, and it doesn't happen all the time. It takes 3 days to render the project though, so it is a major pain when it does happen.
Does anyone else have this problem? It's been going on for months.
Also, if I can't get this to stop happening, is there a way to relink to those render files the way you can relink to a clip? Even that would be a huge help.
    Thanks -

By the way, using the reconnect media function, even when I click on the renders tab, doesn't work at all - FCP doesn't read which render is supposed to go where...

  • 6.0.5 introduces CC-level lost render files to CS6

With 6.0.5, CS6 has joined the ranks of CC, in not being able to retain links to rendered areas of the t-l when warp stabilization is applied to the footage (there may be other conditions as well which cause lost renders, haven't tested) -- not occasionally, but all the time.  Render once, and you'll have to render again when the program is reloaded.  This was not occurring under 6.0.3 -- at least, not all the time.
And no, I'm not submitting a bug report because 1) Adobe does not formally acknowledge existing anomalies (thereby saving its users a great deal of trouble), much less respond to bug reports, 2) as evidenced by the recent staff participation in the forum, Adobe doesn't appear to read bug reports or forum discussions carefully enough to understand what's at issue, and 3) unless the bug is instantly and easily reproduced, and is relatively trivial, as with the source window behavior in 6.0.4, the fix will take years anyway.

Well, the AVCHD/AVC-intra "bug" (let's not call it a "feature"; I still have hopes Adobe will fix it) has been confirmed by everyone who's actually tested it, with the specified conditions (timelines consisting of short clips or short subclips from short clips) and reported back here.  This includes Mr. Simon, though he somewhat understates the laggyness in my view, and doesn't regard it as important (some of us do!).  It also includes Eric Bowen, whose [frustrated] customer base must be a useful source of information.
And there are a number of threads on lost renders.  For every complainer, there have got to be dozens of users suffering in silence.  Or who abandon the product for something else, in frustration.
So we've got one "feature" and one widely reported but poorly understood bug.  I wish I knew what you guys are doing to avoid lost renders (assuming, of course, it's not project-specific, which I suspect is the case), but until then one can only hope Adobe fixes it.
Of course, it would be useful to know if Adobe actually acknowledges these issues, and whether it's working on them, if only to save one's breath, but maybe that's too much to expect from Corporate America.

  • Rendering in FCP: I render, close FCP, and have to render again

    Hello all,
Maybe this is a question which many of you will find easy to answer, but I do not understand why after rendering portions of my timeline that do need rendering, it plays fine, but if I close FCP and restart it later it needs to render those portions again...
Is there something I am doing wrong when I render? I usually select the clips that need rendering and choose "render only" and "clips that need render".
    Thanks.

check the trash for your lost rendered files. If they are there, your Render manager is deleting them prematurely.
If they're not in the trash, they should still be in your Render folder.
You can debug this (but not necessarily fix it), with some tedium, by opening the render folder and sorting by date. Render the project and note the new filenames, maybe label them red or blue. Close the project, open it. Are the files gone?

  • Memory usage gets high and stays high

I'll use my current project as an example, but I've been noticing this issue ever since I started monitoring my computer's memory usage. If I have an hour long Premiere CC timeline and render it, during rendering my computer's memory will go up to about 90%. After rendering is done, task manager shows that Premiere is still using about the same amount of memory, and it stays that way until I restart my computer. It's like it has locked into using certain resources and cannot let go. Any way to remedy this? I currently have 10gb memory (ordered 2gb more that is arriving this week), so it's not the fastest machine around, but should handle memory better in my opinion. I am fine with the rendering speed itself, it's just the tied up resources afterwards that seem like it could be fixed.
One more point - one solution is forcing Premiere and all its components to close. This gets the memory back to normal. Unfortunately, sometimes after I render a long timeline and force restart Premiere, when I get back all my render files don't properly reconnect and I'm forced to re-render the timeline. The fact that it doesn't reconnect to the render files is another related-issue I need help with too, if anyone can offer feedback. Thanks!

    On the lost renders.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1144624?tstart=30
On the memory issue, I'm not sure anything is wrong here.  You say PP releases it when you close PP.  That's the expected behavior.

  • Losing link to render files

Here's the situation. Final Cut 6.0, running on client's Dual 2.3 OS 10.4.9. Feature film, project was fully rendered the last time I opened it. Now I open it and nothing is rendered, but Final Cut does not prompt me that any render files have gone offline. I check in the Render Files folder and the render files are all still there. I restore the project to the last autosave from last week, when I know it was good. Project reopens, everything now appears rendered in the timeline again. Great, so I Save it (also tried Save As... with same results), close the project, reopen it, timeline appears rendered for a brief moment, then the spinning beachball of death appears for several long seconds, and when it disappears, suddenly everything is unrendered again.
    Explanations? Solutions?
    Thanks,

  • CS3-Trouble with Transferred Trimmed Project

    Hello...
New problem; have not been able to find answer.
I need to cut a 20 minute SD video down to 10 minutes to share at a retreat for documentary filmmakers. The last interation of the video was on my editor's machine. Saved a trimmed project without previews to an external drive and then transferred the project to my computer.
The problem is that when I do changes, the renders are glacial. I timed one...2.5 minutes for 50 frames...and there was nothing fancy going on. When I save the project and reopen it, it shows rendering is needed again...some areas required rendering which were not changed.
Premiere seems to handle other projects ok. Crazy making...there is obviously something I do not understand about working with trimmed projects. My editor has a much newer and more powerful computer, but is running CS3 as well. (Running Win7.)
The computer is long in the tooth...but has always been fine in the past...and is fine with other projects. What's up? I know I need a new computer but this one should be able to handle this.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for that info. Sounds like things should work just fine.
The "lost Renders" often happens when one is using an external HDD to edit to/from, or a networked drive, but this does not seem to be your issue.
When I archive a Project (usually TO and external HDD), I will test that Project, prior to moving on. I have yet to encounter any issues, so long as my Assets are in the Project's folder hierarchy. I have run into issues, with Assets not being gathered, when the Assets are spread about. I encountered this with some SmartSound files, that were in a separate folder, since they were being used in about 22 separate Projects for that client. I learned to Copy those into the Project's folder structure, into Music sub-folders, even if that meant having 22 Copies on my system. That has been the ONLY issue, that I have had with archived Projects, using Project Manager, but do have to admit that other than my initial test, I have not revisited many over the years. Do not have any idea why the Render files are causing an issue, and also why the Projects are slowing down, as they are.
Hope that others will see what I am missing, and will have tips for you.
    Good luck,

  • Having to render again and again

Project created by granddaughter is only 5 minutes long. Has only titles and video, no transitions yet. No photos are used. If project is rendered, saved, closed and reopened, the timeline indicates it needs rendering again (red line above.) Each render takes about the same amount of time. Have already delected parts of the project in an attempt to possibly eliminate areas that might cause such, no luck. Have 100 gb free space for scrach files. Have worked with much larger projects on this computer with no problem. However, this is a new load of PE9 and a new load of Windows 7. I have not worked with other projects on this computer since these two changes were made.
She is under a tight timeline, so any suggestions very much welcome.

    Ted,
That is the way that it is supposed to work, and normally does.
As Steve mentions, there are so many, who "loose" their Rendered file links, that it does seem that there is a Bug. This holds for PrPro CS4 & CS5 too. Initially, we thought that it might be something like the use of external HDD's in the mix, or changing locations and Assets, but too many have no externals, and have not made any location changes, that I think there is a glitch. The trouble, however, is that this behavior seems to hit a few, but not most. There MUST be some difference there, but we've not isolated anything common to the Projects (systems, workflow, etc.) that would explain why - seems totally random, so really tough to diagnose. That is why we suggest the Bug Reports, with as much detail as is possible, to let Adobe recreate the issue in the lab, and get about fixing it. The issue seems too deeply entrenched for us mere users to troubleshoot.
I have never lost Renders in either of my Adobe NLE programs, but too many have, to ignore the issue.

  • Lost CSS style rendering

    Help!
I've read the FAQ regarding toggling CSS styles as I've lost/inadvertanly switched off the detail in the design pane leaving me only with the code. This was the advice:
Sometimes, though, your CSS looks completely wrong or isn't displayed at all. Usually, this happens if you have accidentally turned off the display of styles, or if you have selected an option other than Screen Media Type in the View > Style Rendering submenu or the Style Rendering toolbar. Make sure Display Styles and Screen Media Type are selected (they should have checkmarks against them like this:
However, I'm running an old version - DreamWeaver MX 2004 v 7.0.1 - and it doesn't have Style Rendering etc. under the View tag. Please tell me what I must do. (Don't say upgrade!)
    Thanks

  • Rendered project and have lost the sound

I am using the trial version of adobe premiere pro CS5. I had completed my project and rendered it. However, after rendering I played it back and appear to have lost the sound. The files are there, they seem intact but there is no sound coming out!
Dont know if i need to click something???!!! But need help quick!
    Thanks
    Ellie

Glad that you found the culprit.
Just want to point out that the trail version does not handle anything MPEG-2, and not that much in other flavors of MPEG. Just keep that in the back of your mind, should you get a failure to Import such material, or go looking of Export Presets, that are not there.
    Good luck,

  • Lost Smoothcam Renders

ongoing issue, just wondering if anyone has an update / related info:
the issue is fcp losing smoothcam renders in a timeline, and having to continually re-render said losses.
    - smoothcam applied to clips
    - analysis done
    - render completed
so the timeline is now fully rendered.
if i have to render something in the timeline - for example i rescale a clip - any clip, one without smoothcam or any other effect applied - and then command R to render, fcp will lose all renders on all smoothcams in the sequence. this can't be "undone". the analysis isn't lost. just the renders.
i have this problem across machines and versions of fcp (6 & 7) just wondering if anyone has insight or workaround for the bug.
    R.

    Ryan Scott wrote:
This has been a problem since at least FCP 6. Smoothcam has been the culprit for me, which of course doesn't do any good.
What does that mean, "which of course doesn't do any good?"
    Ryan Scott wrote:
And can I just say that the workaround (exporting each smoothcam clip as self-contained) *****?!! We all know it does.
Of course you can say anything you want to but this is just your opinion, you may not presume to include me in we. Rendering Smoothcam is not a problem for me so it's not a workaround at all; pre-rendering effects a long-standing solution.

I kept thinking a fix was coming. Ridiculous. iOS is the focus now. And I'm seriously looking at Adobe.
    And I loathe that option.
iOS has the media focus, true. Since no one knows what Apple is up to it's easy to grasp at any rationalization. Does Adobe offer a reliable stabilization system that does not rely on rendering? I've never used Premiere (not for anything other than playful frustration) but I'm an After Effects power user and I've pre-rendered stabilized footage ever since motion tracking technology was introduced in AE.

  • Why are links to renders lost at shutdown or during edit?

    Refer
The problem: clips that have been rendered and saved lose their connections to preview files when the project is reopened.  These are clips that are dynamically linked to an AE project.  These clips were extremely slow to connect, showing “Media Pending” for a very long time,
And in the most recent instance, after editing a one-minute section of unrelated-to-the-prior-renders footage, many render links went away. Some were from the VFX clips, some from clips that have lived quietly in the project since the beginning.
Additional issue: Transcode test for colorist was unsuccessful on several tries.  I used a section of the project and rendered any red-lined clips. Then:
    Project manager
    Consolidate and transcode
    Match: Sequence
    Format: Quicktime
    Preset: Apple ProRes 422 - HD 1080p 29.97
    Exclude unused clips
Rename Media files to match clip name
Convert After Effects compositions to Clips
    I received this error:
I would be very grateful for any advice or assistance.
Oh-- yeah--  This might be helpful:
    Premiere Pro CC 2014.1,  8.1.0 (81) build
    2014 Macbook Pro
    OS 10.9.5    2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
DSLR h264 edited in Multi-cam sequences
Dailies on external Thunderbolt HD with plenty of room
Transcode destination on an additional HD with plenty of room
    Thank you

    Additional issue:
A clip dynamically linked to AE now shows the message "Frame not analyzed for stabilization. Click Analyze."
I clicked Edit Original, found the AE composition.  Warp Stabilizer was active. A few frames at heads showed the error. I clicked "analyze". When finished, the PR project lost all preview links for about 20-30 of the VFX shots.
And I'd just got the whole project rendered and green-lined.
Clicking undo on the AE project did not help.
Since I hadn't done anything else in Pr, I closed the project without saving changes.   Upon reopen, all preview links were intact.
Thanks for any help on this.

  • Web service soap call connection lost in rendered form generated by stichted fragments

    Hi
I have fragment which uses a webservice call to get data from database and the output is bind to fields on the fragment. these fragements are dynamically inserted in the insertion points and the fragments are stichted using assembler and the form is rendered and reader extensions are applied. when I click on the execute button of generated form the web service is not called because the connection is lost when the form is stichted and rendered.
I used the fragment in a standalone form and reader extended that form and everything works fine, the web service is called and i get the data.
can any body explain what is the problem with rendered form by stichthing the fragments, what needs to be done in case of stitched form?
    Thanks
    Mahesh

Firstly thanks for reply Sir, Sir when i called this from Dot Net it's working but i called from form builder then error occured.
    Error Code Is :-

Yes, if you duplicate without the render files and delete the original project you lose the render files. But render files get recreated - automatically if you have it set in the preferences (which is the default option). It just takes time.
