Lost safari's url field
I've just managed to lose safari's url field... click something and it's gone.
Any ideas how to get it back again?
Eme
Thank you for replying to Lesley Olley question. I just had the same problem after a resent up date. I felt so stupid to realize it was such a simple task after spending 7 hours searching all my applications, utilities, folders and the hard drive for a missing component. Then downloading various utility repair and maintenance applications. Gosh, what a wasted day. I hope Lesley didn't do this. But that sad part is I went a week going through Yahoo web browser to get to every place I needed to go that wasn't already in my bookmarks.
I did try using Internet Explorer but it ran so slowly (I'm on dial up) that even the extra time going through Yahoo was quicker then waiting for Internet Explorer to dial up the address. It is funny because on my XP computer dial up is actually pretty fast using Internet Explorer.
Thank you very much.

Safari copy url button doesn't work
I just upgraded from an ipad2 to an iPad air 2. Before, if I wanted to copy and paste a url I'd use the copy button. Now,on the new iPad air 2, the copy button just wipes out whatever I've previously copied, and doesn't copy the url.
You tap and hold down in the URL field until you get the option to select all. Then you choose the option to select all. An option to Copy appears and you select that and then you should be able to paste that URL into a text field.
Safari copy url button doesn't work
I Realize that you must know the steps but I am just double checking. If that is not working for you, and you are not having copy and paste issues elsewhere in other apps, I would try clearing Safari, force close it and then reset your iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data
Now force close Safari. In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Chrome and firefox searches on address/URL field are crashing my Mac
Hello,
Since Friday (3 days ago), I've noticed that whenever I use the address/URL field in either Chrome or Firefox to search for something - not entering a valid URL, but entering something for the browse to use Google to search for what I entered - my Macbook Pro (10.9) crashes - kernel panic. The same does not ocurr with Safari.
I have Norton Security installed in my Mac, and I have uninstalled both Chrome and Firefox, rebooted my Mac, reinstalled them, and the situation remains the same. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Here's what I got from the crash report:

Safari mangles url for rss feed
I have a local test 'domain' on my 10.4.11 system. That domain name is cvwa without any dots. This has the ip address of localhost and/or the ip address of the internal network (like 10.0.0.8). Urls like http://cvwa/default.shtml work perfectly on both Safari and on Firefox. However, if I use http://cvwa/tryrss.xml, Safari first, briefly shows feed://cvwa/tryrss.xml (as it should) but then immediately changes to http://tryrss.xml/ which, of course does not exist. Firefox has no trouble with it and correctly handles the feed. Further, if I put the same xml file on the outside with a complete domain name like www.cvwa.org, then both Safari and Firefox correctly deal with the feed. Is Safari broken or am I doing something bad? The test feed is http://www.cvwa.org/tryrss.xml if you think the xml is at fault.
I have turned proxies off completely for this test but it is the same on or off.
10.4.11, Safari 3.1 (but behaved the same just before the recent update to Safari)Go to your blog and click on the RSS button in the URL window of Safari to view the rss feed. Then copy the RSS feed page's URL from the URL field at the top.

Any way to have the URL field without the Google search window?
It would be great if someone had made a Safari Extension that only showed the URL field and not the Google/Yahoo field. Has anyone seen this? I found an extension for DuckDuckGo which I like. This is on Safari for the Mac on 10.7.1 and 10.6.2 on two of my machines that I'd like that to be added. Also if there is a PicSearch plugin that would be great. I'm trying to get rid fo all the cookie based search engines now that Google has changed their privacy policy, and I don't like Yahoo's either.
Nondisclosure statement would suggest that would not even be something anyone would know if it is a feature or not. Unless it is up on Apple's website. Did you see something mentioned on Apple's website? Also, I'm going to have to wait to see if I need new hardware for it. I'm still dependent on MacBook Pro 3,1 and iMac 5,1.

URL field shows base domain only
In Safari 6.0.3, OS 10.8.5, the URL field only shows base domain, not the full URL.
How can I restore the normal information, so it will show me the complete URL?Not seeing that... Aha! Issue has resolved itself with no changes from me! Must be intermittent.

I really like Safari 4 but the one thing that really annoys me about it is the way highlighting works in the address field. In Firefox if I click on the address the whole thing highlights and I can type in a new one which is what I usually want to do. If I want to add to the address I click the right arrow or click again in the address field. Logical and efficient.
In Safari the first click simply adds an insert bar, second click highlights part of the address, third click highlights the whole address. So to replace the address (my commonest reason for clicking in the URL field) I have to click 3 times!
Edit: I just figured out if I shift click I can highlight the whole thing in one click but that still requires two hands. Is there any way I can change this to a one handed click right click or even double click? Is there any way I can change this to a one handed click right click or even double click?
Click the favicon (the small icon) to the left of the url text. That will select all the text in one go. Or press cmd+l (letter L) to select all the text via the keyboard.
Cmd+l is analogous to Firefox's ctrl+l. -
Is it possible to disable the URL field's Autofill feature?
Safari is employing some type of autofill when I type in the URL field.
I have tried clearing my history, because I notice the suggestions that appear are websites I have surfed to before. Clearing history has no effect.
This is a really annoying feature. Is there any way to disable it?I guess in the scheme of things, this is not something Apple considers a priority. I and others have made the suggestion before via the Report Bugs to Apple selection in the Safari Menu. Consider doing the same. In the meantime, the spacebar is your only ally here.

Lost Safari looked Ina all the files in icloud I can see that it is used by icloud but can't access it. How do I get it back?
You cannot lose Safari as it is part of iOS. It's on your iPad somewhere.
Here are some choices how to proceed:
1. Go to your home screen, swipe from left to right, and type "Safari" in the search screen. You will find a link to take you there.
2. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout -
I tried everything but my favorite browser will not open ...
install the new version of Safari 6.0.2. macbook was wrong and try to return to the previous version and well ... lost safari
can someone help please?!

The safari browser search field is displaying results in full screen mode. I am not able to come out of this results box. Please help.
After killing the Safari, my issue has been resolved!!!
Thank you. -
When I type an address into the url field the browser will not load the page...it just sits there as though waiting for me to press enter. Also it won't respond to the recently used addresses that show in the dropdown menu. It will also not respond when I try to use the search engine field (google). This started yesterday after Firefox automatically updated to version 3.5.9. I don't get an error message, just no response at all.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Cursor is in URL field, not (Google) search box
This problem is referred to on so many forums, but after half the afternoon going from site to site trying out suggestions, I haven't been able to fix it...
When I open Firefox (Google is my homepage), the cursor is in the Google search box, but if I open more tabs, the cursor is always in the URL field. Why would anyone want that?
I have tried restarting Firefox with all my addons disabled, and tried using extensions like NewTabURL 2.2.3, but the problem is there just the same. Has anyone found a definitive way to fix this?
Thanks!First, please update to the latest version of Firefox. [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
Currently this is the default behavior to have the cursor in the url bar when you open a new tab. However there has been another add on that has been suggested in the past: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-cursor/?src=search]
