Lost segments during video capture

I know I've got enough horsepower to do the job, but every time I attempt video capture either from the S-video input (Hi8 camcorder)or via Firewire (DV camcorder)I get periodic breaks in the captured data. I'm not losing frames per se, I lose 2-3 second segments of the video stream every 9 to 30 seconds with no repeatable pattern that I can see.
I've tried most of the tips found on various sites, ie. eliminating background tasks and registry fiddling with only some improvement.
I've tried the following software:
Intervideo Winproducer
Intervideo Wincinema
Sonic MyDVD
Arcsoft Showbiz
Any help, ideas welcome.
BTW, thanks to the posters here. I've found solutions to a number of problems and some good ideas in the few days I've been lurking here.

On one of my older systems, I've experienced same problem. It was solved by disabling USB in BIOS (I don't have much explanation for this, maybe a strange driver).
On the other hand, try iuVCR (http://www.iulabs.com they could pay me for advertising  :D ), it's the only application I've used, able to capture in divx on the fly without loosing frames (of course it depends on cpu frequency, I have athlon 1ghz, capturing 352x288, but on 2.4ghz 640x480 is ok)

  • Color shift during video capture (moved from Nseri...

I have noticed that the video camera in my n79 is very sensitive to changes in light.  Often I get a major color shift during a video capture seemingly for no reason, especially when shooting outside.  Is this a defect or should I use a particular setting for video? Current settings are:
    quality: High(TV);
    scene mode:Auto;
    video light: off(shooting video outside during day);
    white balance: Automatic (this MIGHT be the culprit?);
    Color tone:Normal.
Two stills from the same video are attached; the second, a few seconds later, is unnaturally vivid (almost day-glo!).
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Wow, what a quick reply!
Delivery was going to be Quicktime HD and probably downconvering to SD MPEG2 for a DVD. I was just going to edit in HDV, since I'm not doing anything fancy, just to try it out as a workflow option (and previews for the client). The first couple of projects I've started on my Macbook Pro though have had this hue shift (I can post an example on-line if need be by filming my monitor...) It's not inherent in the actual captured QT file, just when being played back in FCP. When I export out of FCP the QT file looks great as well. I've never had this problem on my G5 tower with HDV from the same camera or captured the same way. I'm worried that it's the univeral copy of FCP or even worse, my Macbook!
    Make sense?
    Thanks

  • Constant event error being logged during video capture

I recently upgraded my version of Premiere Pro to version CS4.  When I now perform a video capture from my DV Device, I get the following error logged in the event window: "file is busy, and couldn't be updated".  Until the first logging, there is no RED X in the bottom right corner.  Upon the first log, the RED X appears in the bottom right corner.
As far as I can tell, the event error occurs immediately after a scene download has been completed and the next scene is initiated.
The camera I am using is a MiniDV camera (not HD) and it is not listed in the device table within Premiere (Panasonic PV-GS500).  I have Premiere's device set to Standard Panasonic and have also tried each of the Alternatives (1,2,3,4 and 5).
Can anyone please help me understand what this error/event means as Adobe is somewhat prehistoric when it comes to providing definitions.

    Several possible causes:
    1. You are not running as administrator or with administrative rights.
    2. You use Win7 and your firewire driver is not the 'Legacy' one. See Adobe Forums: Can not capture under Win7
    3. Background processes are getting in the way.
    Possible solution:
Try Scenalyzer Live for capturing SD material. Better, more reliable and with more features than CS4.

  • IMovie Importing cuts off during video capture

    Hi!
I am in the process of importing a video footage from my mini dv cam tape into iMovie. It seems that iMovie cuts off the video capture after 16 minutes into the duration. I have a 60-minute footage that needs to be captured for iMovie.
Is there a time limit for video captures within iMovie?
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Can it be
    - Ken Burns effect
    - Zoom in effect
    - Image stabilization
All of them enlarhe the picture. Turn them off
    - set Crop to ADJUST - and all will be there (letterboxed or columned)

  • Premiere Pro won't minimise properly during video capture

If anybody could help me with this it would be much appreciated:
I haven't encountered this problem this before but I have Premiere Pro from the CS3 Master Suite running and the capture window is open, capturing video from a deck. When I minimise Premiere I can normally carry on with other work in Microsoft Excel or other similar software. This only lasts for a few moments before the tab for Premiere on the Start Bar starts flashing and deselects whichever program I am working on so that any keystrokes or keyboard shortcuts I use are applied to Premiere and are halting or otherwise affecting the capture process. I need to know if there are any options in Premiere to prevent it from "re-activating" whilst minimised as it is halting the progress of my work, it is flashing away at me now like an insidious little beacon of hate........I must stop it........

If you are capturing SD, try Scenalyzer Live.  I have to use it because Premiere does not capture audio correctly from my camera (one of the few that Sony used an odd audio process on).  Scenalyzer captures fine in the background.  The trial is free.  Check a few files to be sure it is working for you; I have an older system (P4), and no problems with captures.

  • Red light during video capture on N95

CAn I change the orange light lifght to white light at least?during shootng video with N95??

    Very cool there Bhagiratha!
The green stuff looks like a copper oxide to me, perhaps the leftover from thermal paste?
The thermal paste is supposed to make up for the slight unevenness and/or give a better heat transfer if I remember correctly.
Since it's all around the outside edges "squeezed out" that's my assumption.
(don't try this at home folks it will void your warranty and can make you very unhappy if things go bad)

  • Xserve RAID - to slow during video capture

    I have Xserve RAID with 14 drives in 2 stripes ( 2x7 drives ) in RAID5. I can see in my system two "drives" called RAID1 & RAID2 - each 2.18TB.
When I`m using BlackMagic Disk Speed test utility I have only 150MB/s read and 100MB/s write which is to slow for 1080i HD.
What is wrong ? What should I do to get better performance ?
I`m new in Xserve so maybe somebody could explaine me "step by step" what to do.
I read a little about RAID50 but I have no idea how to create it.
    Regards.
    Rafal Szermanowicz

Those speeds are fast enough for HD capture.
Anyway, to ensure you're getting full speed, make sure:
    1) You have the 1.5 firmware on the RAID
    2) Enable controller write cache is checked (enabled)
    3) Use drive cache is checked (enabled)
    4) Allow host cache flushing is DISABLED (unchecked)
    5) Use steady streaming mode is DISABLED (unchecke)
For capture, leaving the settings at 8 stripes as prefetch is probably best. If you are going to be doing extensive playback of uncompressed HD, you may want to consider setting the prefetch at 128 stripes.

It can't be the processing power needed - as this is 3Gs and has lots of power under the hood
I know Video captures Audio as well in the movie - so what - it should still be able to make a video with the voice capture thru the Mic.
This is totally stupid of Apple. Video is a very useful feature and one of the reasons I paid $560 to upgrade and a bad implementation.

  • Ti4800SE-VTD8X & WDM video capture problem...

sheeesh... I did everything I know to solve the problem... I read every thread on this help forum having the word "WDM" using the search engine and also on other webpages and forums. I can see that I am not the only one having problem with the WDM drivers
Can anyone help me with this  ?(  :
The WDM driver fails to load and make my system boot up time to around 45 seconds to 1 minute which is normally booting in less than 18 seconds without the WDM driver installed. In the "Device Manager", I see a nice lil " ! " on the "nVidia WDM Video Capture (Universal)" codec.
Here is what I did to date :
    1) I had an MSI Ti4200-VTD8X on a different setup computer and had the same problem. I changed my 250 power supply to a 350 watts as I read it might solve some problem but it did not.
    2) I exchanged the Ti4200 for a brand new MSI GeForce4 Ti4800SE-VTD8X (MS-8900) and STILL have the same problem
    3) I completely change my "old" P4 1.8 to a brand new setup (see at bottom) AND STILL have the same problem.
    4) Why did I buy an nVidia product instead of ATI ?   dunno...
    5) I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, uninstall, reinstall, uninstall, reinstall... huh ?  ?(  oh yeah, the nVidia WDM drivers 1.21 and 1.22 still doesn't work. I even tried old WDM drivers as some said solved their problem. Installed 1.04, still the same problem.
    6) I have tried the WDM from MSI (was happy to see a newer version 1.27) and disaster  8o  computer crash with a nice blue screen and reset itself as soon XP loads this famous WDM driver during boot sequence. Had to start in safe mode using the last known working version... At least, that worked...
    7) The only way I can make this crappy driver to works (and that is at 50%) is this way
    a) in the device manage, I right clic the faulty codec (that XP kindly took the time to open for me to show me that this is not working...) and go to "update the driver"
    b) then I click "install from a specified location"
    c) then I click "do not search, I will chose the driver to install"
    d) then I can see "nVidia WDM Video Capture (Universal)" in the list so I click on it
    e) click "next" button
    f) XP reinstall the driver withtout the " ! " once I go back in the "Device Manager".
The only thing with that is that it is unstable. Sometimes it might work for 1 hour, sometimes 10 minutes. What it does is it completely crash the application which is using the WDM, for instance InterVideo WinProducer. And here is the kind and gentle warning message box from XP saying : "InterVideo WinProducer has to shut down. We are sorry blah blah blah blah..."   and of course you lose any recordings you were capturing or working on...
If I reboot the system, the codec is once again not loaded properly.
So, can some one help me with this ???
    Thank you !  :D

Try and download demo version, and see if you have use for it. I would like to use it, when I want, to watch DVD on my TV.
So now we need MSI or nVidia to make a WDM driver that works with nVidia VGA 44.03 driver.
    Thanks man !
I have tried the TV Tool and quite frankly, I don't really like it... For the moment that is... It messed up a little the video settings like resolution and refresh rate. I have had numerous errors also saying to update to the latest version but you already told me about that.
I have noticed something with 41.07 driver that I lost a nice feature that might interest you ! In fact, with this feature, I think you would not need the TV Tool.
I had the option before to maxize the TV out to full screen when the DVD player started or when I watched any video format.
I can have the Windows Media Player (using nVidia nDVD for DVD) running minimized on my main VGA monitor and get the S-Video out run full screen which was really nice. Sadly, this option looks to be nowhere to find with the Detonator 41.07 version.  :(
I don't know if there will be a serious revision about the newest Detonator drivers so it can support our card with full features like the full screen one...
When you fix a problem, there is a new one that come out  :O
If you get any hint on how to complaint at MSI or nVidia, it would be great to let them know that something has changed since the v.41.07 that makes a lot of nVidia users having problems with the WDM issue.
Thanks again, at least, I can capture some video ! But not able to watch it full screen anymore on the TV out
    Let's keep in touch !
    See ya !

  • Video capture Cables with MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3!

I have the VT64D and I woiuld very much like to know where to find the cables for this card, I need the A/V Cables... as I would like to have the full benefit of sound as well...
If anybody has this calbe/breakout box I would be Extremely interested in purchasing it...
    Thanks,
    Marc
PS: Its the second revision of Starforce 8822

If you have the Video Capture Driver installed then the video capture program should see it. On MSI site version 1.16 of the driver is available for download.
If you still have problems (e.g. too many frames lost) you can try using Virtual VCR (worked best in my case).

  • How can I get Hi8 video captured in NTSC Standard, to display as 4:3 when DVD is played on TV?

I have been capturing Hi8 tapes of our family, using a Sony analog-to-digital converter and Adobe Premier 10's NTSC Standard (4:3) preset. However, when I use Premiere Elements 10 to burn the digital files to DVDs and then play them on a Sony DVD player and Bravia flat-panel TV, the video is distorted in width automatically by the Wide Zoom mode. The TV cannot be configured to display the frames in the Normal Mode because the resolution is 720p, so the images cannot be viewed with the original 4:3 frame aspect ratio.
After much experimentation, I tried capturing a tape in the NTSC Wide (16:9) preset. When I started to burn the AVI file to a DVD, I got a warning that I was using the wrong format, and the choice to correct the format.  I chose NO, and then burned the DVD. To my surprise, it did display on the TV without horizontal stretch, and the images did not appear to have been noticeably degraded.
I would very much appreciate knowing if there is some way for me to go back now and have Premiere Elements 10 somehow reformat all of the Hi8 tapes I captured using the NTSC Standard preset, so that I don't have to recapture them, but can simply reformat them and burn them to DVD's that can be displayed on the TV without being distorted?

Thanks for replying Steve.  I've been using a Sony DVMC-DA2, an analog-to- digital media converter which I was advised is used by people converting media professionally. I've been using an S-Video cable to connect it to my Sony Hi8 video camera (Model CCD-TR101), which was considered to be a high-end camera, back in the day (1992). The converter is connected to my Windows 7 computer with an IEEE 1394, "FireWire" cable. I'm not sure how I would check the format into which the Hi8 video is being converted, but I've followed the Adobe Premiere 10 Video Tutorial and configured the capture preset to the NTSC Standard (4:3), which is the one recommended for DV cameras. I couldn't find any advice specifically explaining how to configure the preset when converting analog Hi8 to digital.
In the Premiere Elements 10 editing software itself, the video images burned on a DVD are not distorted, and the quality of the video images during editing looks to be every bit as good as the camera could record.
When I started showing the DVD's to my family, however, I was very disappointed to discover that everything looked stretched in the horizontal direction. I have since studied the configuring of frame aspect ratio modes (Normal, Zoom, Wide Zoom and Full) described in the Sony Bravia TV's instruction manual, in detail. And, I have tried every conceivable combination of the picture and frame settings to see if I could "unstretch' the video images. No, luck. It was then that I came across a footnote that indicated that the Normal mode was not available for video resolutions of 720p, 1080 and higher. Unfortunately, the NTSC Standard preset indicates that it does capture DV in images that have 720 horizontal pixels by 480 vertical pixels.
When I view the Hi8 burned to DVD's on other computers, using Windows Media Player and Video Lan, they are not distorted. In fact, they look so good that I'm just about ready to dedicate my laptop as the DVD player for my TV set!  It was while contemplating whether there might be a way to avoid doing this, that it occured to me to try capturing some Hi8 tape using the NTSC Wide Screen preset option. My half-formed idea was that, since the ratio of pixel width to pixel height in the Standard preset was smaller than with the Widescreen preset, using the latter to capture an analog video image might either (1) expand the width of the overall image much farther, and cause grotesque distortion, or (2) squash the width of the overall image, so that it looked normal. I can't pretend to have known what I was doing, since I don't understand video recording technology, but it also occured to me that the Widescreen preset might degrade the resolution, so that it was somehow no longer 720p, and thereby possibly circumvent the Sony lockout of the Normal Mode for these DVD's. Whatever it did, capturing Hi8 video with the NTSC Widescreen preset did, indeed, reduce the width of the frames appearing on the TV Screen, so that they apperared normal.
The question with which I'm now wrestling is whether to go back and re-capture all of the Hi8 tapes, with the NTSC Widescreen preset, that I had already captured with the NTSC Standard preset - a big job. The warning window that popped-up when I prepared to burn the test video captured with the Widescreen preset gave me the option of correcting my "mistaken" choice of capture preset. I declined, and was rewarded with an undistorted video image. Which raises the possibility that, somewhere in Premiere Elements 10, there may be the capability of invoking that same pop-up window and modifying what the software considers to be the "correct," Standard preset to the Widescreen preset,so that I can change the formatting for all of the HI8 tapes I've already captured, so that they can be burned to DVD's and viewed in their proper frame aspect ration.
This has been a long-winded follow-up to your initial answer to my question, but I would very much appreciate any further suggestions.
    Many thanks.  Paul

  • Video capture

I have a GeForce4 MX 440-VTP graphics card and have the video in and out adapter connected. The problem I am having is with the video capture function. When I start recording the streaming video from either my analog video camcorder (composite input)or VCR (S-Video input) I get a horizontal white bar that takes up the middle third of the screen. The bar does not show up during the recording but is there during playback.

Thank you for your help. I searched on the net and everyone seems to have the same solution for the problem. They say that the problem is caused by the macrovision copy protection and that one needs to download an older WDM capture driver (v1.08 for example) and the problem will go away. I am going to give this a shot this evening and will post what happens tomorrow.
I installed the older capture drivers and now the video capture works just fine. So the solution is to get older WDM capture drivers that do not have the macrovision copy protection in them.

  • Video capture stops when connected to FCP using fire wire

Captured video using Sony VX2000 using 48 khz and 16 bit audio stereo mode. Using Sony Premium miniDV tapes.
Video plays back fine when not connected via firewire to G4 dual 867 with 2 GB Ram.
Using default capture preset of 48 khz 16 bit, connect fire wire and video capture randomly stops stating it has lost connection or is missing capture data. If I switch to just plain capture using non controllable device, I have the same issue except the tape keeps playing but FCP stops capturing.
Tried other tapes and no problem.
Tried other fire wire cable and no problem.
I am having problems only on this tape and when connected.
When not connected it plays back on the camera with no stopping.

    To answer your questions--
Dumping preferences usually does not cause problems. More likely you updated some part of your system or are having other hardware issues.
No updates or hardware issues. The original problem (discussed in another thread) was one where the video is skewed inward on the lower right corner. Apple instructed me to dump the preferences and start from scratch. That I did and now I am experiencing problems I did not have before. If it is hardware problems, then I guess it is just coincidental that FCP is just now presenting problems. However, the other problems I am having are software related and does not involve the camera.
What software versions of FCP, OSX and QT are you running and have you updated any of them recently?
    FCP version-5.1.2
    OSX-10.4.8
    QT-7.1.3
Is there anything special about the 'difficult' tape?
    No.
    Did you record it?
    Yes
Was it the last of a bunch?
Not sure. I buy bulk so this was one in a box of 5 that is was in a case of 50 boxes.
Are you using the same camera as the playback device?
    Yes
Does it work if you use another computer?
Not sure what you mean. I have only one MAC G4.
Was it recorded using another camera in a non-DV format?
No. Playback is through same camera is was recorded on.
