Lost Settings in move

Just migrated to a new laptop.
Used my external HD to transfer
catalog over and opened LR with it.
Everything went fine to that point until I see I lost all my previous settings. I do see the settings folder but can't seem to link it.
Any help is appreciated....
Mark

Never mind.......
I just re-exported and re-imported the catalog file without the previews and it works fine now with all my previous settings.

  • Wrt54g lost settings and wireless not detected

    Hello,
I recently had a problem with my wrt54g so i popped in the installation cd and went through the basic setup again.  Now my wired desktop works perfectly but none of my wireless devices are finding the router.  I also went into the config webpage and noticed all my settings had been reset.  All my port forwarding for the PS3 and XBox 360 had disappeared!!!  I couldn't believe it since it took me forever to get the initial settings to work right.
Now my laptop, ps3, xbox360 all cannot detect the the router.  However, the wired desktop pc works fine.  Is there any way to recover lost settings and how do I get the router to be detected by my wireless devices?

I think your router got resetted and that is why you lost all the settings on the router...Change the wireless settings on the router(ssid , channel , wep)...Click here to change the Wireless Settings on the router...Also check the related articles in the given link...

When I updated my MAC I lost all my movies from iTunes.  They are still on my hard drive but will not reappear after I reset my preference in advance section.  How do I fix it?

If they are still on your Mac's drive then you should be able to add them back into iTunes via File > Add To Library

  • The only icons that come up are computers and settings no movies tv  etc

the only icons that come up are computers and settings, no movies tv etc.  I have disconnected the device and one box nothing I have tied has corrected this problem please advise, I am so frustrated second day attempting to correct this.

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, as your tagline says that you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
An iPad 1 will be updated to iOS 5.1.1, and iPad 2 and 3 to iOS 6.1.2.

  • Started a new apple id but lost all my movies can i get them back

i started a new apple id and deleted my old one only to find i lost all my movies can they be retrieved.

All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it. Depending upon what country that you are in (and whether you've changed countries since buying the films), then if the films are still in your country's store (and those film studios allow redownloading) then you might be able to log into your old account and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes.
Logging into an account and redownloading its purchases may tie your computer to that account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID - so you won't be able to use iTunes Match, automatic downloads or redownload your new account's purchases until the 90 days have completed (it shouldn't affect new purchases). And, depending upon what you've already done with your new account, you may already be in a 90 day association to that account.

  • Lost my entire movie collection on itunes?

alright so i don't know how this happened but all my movies that i legitimately bought off of itunes are gone. They still show up in my library, but whenever i try to watch them, it says this ( with the royal tenenbaums for example.)
The movie “The Royal Tenenbaums” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?'
and no matter how hard i look I can't find any of my movie files. anyone know how to fix this?

    jzhessler wrote:
and jim, your telling me that i lost all the movies that i paid for?
Unless you can find them.  My movies are in my user account/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies.
The link I provided earlier is Apple's policy on redownloads.  You may be able to talk the iTunes Store Support Team into allowing another download, but I've heard that each download results in an Apple payment to the content providers.  However, it can't hurt to ask.  Email them at this link and explain what happened, list the titles missing and grovel a bit. I hope you get lucky.

  • Lost settings and import tab on with itunes 10

We've lost the settings and import tabs that are supposed to be at the lower right in itunes.  Any idea how to get them back.  And/or how else to import music from an old computer to a new one using home sharing.

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.

  • Lost settings, library and podcasts

Today my iTunes has lost all its settings. It's showing an empty Music Library (all the tracks are safe and sound on the NAS, just not showing in iTunes), no playlists and, most annoyingly, no podcasts - neither subscriptions nor past episodes waiting to be listened to.
This is iTunes 7.0.2.16 on XP Pro. It was running fine yesterday morning.
Anyone seen this before and know an easy way back? Obviously I can reimport the Music Library from the folders on the NAS, but rebuilding the playlists and the podcast subscriptions will be a PitA. Is there a set of files I can restore from a recent backup to get back where I was?
    Thanks in advance, guys ...
    Nick

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
It also sounds like you have renamed your home account. Change it back.

  • Can't Customize, Change Settings, or Move Files -- Permissions Issue?

    Hey all:
Just got a new MBP w/ 10.5.2. Successfully migrated most of my user settings and applications from the old Tiger HDD (old laptop died a horrible death).
The problem is that aside from everything appearing to be the same, I'm finding that I don't have the access to do a whole lot with my own files. Several different problems that "seem" like they're stemming from the same accessiblity/permissions issue include:
Intermittent trouble downloading files with Firefox's default download tool.
Complete inability to change desktop background.
Programs fail to remember setting changes after quit and re-launch.
System Preferences do not remember changes to settings.
Certain files can not be moved, renamed, opened, or deleted w/o admin authorization, or in some cases, at all.
The problems started after I migrated the old system over after having an interim user account running for a few days prior. After migrating, I attempted to reconcile the two together and that's when things got hairy.
In the past couple days, I have tried:
1.) Archive and Install (preserving User settings - now down to just one admin).
2.) Changing permissions to system read/write, admin read/write, everyone read only for the entire /User directory, applied to all enclosed items.
3.) Repairing Permissions (which took about 10 minutes!)
I'm at the end of my rope here. I'm stuck with my OS acting the way it wants to, which is the exact way it was after being archived and reinstalled, no matter what changes I try to apply in the Finder, Preferences, or in any programs.
I'm thinking maybe a clean install and then migrating over the backup I just made on my external HD will get me my stuff without whatever troublesome thing is freezing me out, but I'm not really sure, and I don't really understand much about command lines in Terminal.
Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks.

Oddly enough I just had a spastic moment with a mouse click and put my Drop Box in the Trash (I keep the Delete thing in my window toolbar, which is handy, but can lead to accidents)... Since I was playing with it I noticed its absence immediately. Realized what I had done after a moment's reflection, and put it back. Which just goes to confirm something I ALWAYS do before I empty the Trash: open it and see what's in there first, then click empty.
As to whether removing ACLs is for advanced users only: well, up until Leopard that's the way it always was, there were, until now, NO ACLs on the users folders. So should everyone have been an advanced user until now? Did you ever delete a folder in Jaquar or Panther or Tiger and empty your Trash without checking? Indeed, if you use Time Machine, available in Leopard but not before, you are already protected from such goofs, since you can recover things accidently deleted using Time Machine, so actually you are in better shape with Leopard than ever before, WITHOUT the ACLs if you use Time Machine. Until Leopard there was neither belt nor suspenders to automatically protect you from losing data. Leopard supplies both.
The situation reminds me of the continuing debate about virus protection on the Mac. Personally, I have seen various anti-virus programs cause all sorts of problems, and it has yet to protect any Mac system from anything (since as yet there are no Mac system viruses). Anti-virus software may have saved some users of Microsoft Office who share files with Windows users from getting a macro virus in their Word docs, and it might have kept a Mac user from passing on some email virus to some Windows users by forwarding stuff from the Internet. But still.... if you don't use MS Office or forward email junk, you get no benefit and may get some problems.
Same seems to me to be true of ACLs: it is possible to get a benefit (you can't accidently toss your Movies folder and lose data, assuming you mindlessly empty your Trash and don't have a backup), but an awful lot of people are having an awful lot of problems.

  • Best settings for .mov files on a Data CD or DVD ?

    Hi,
I have a series of sequences in FCP. I want to export them as .mov files and .wmv flies to be played off a data CD or DVD. They are essentially talking heads with a few cut away shots about 5 min each.
I'm finding that when I save them as "high" quality .mov & .wmv files through "Export / Quicktime Compression", they don't play smoothly off the CD. Compression too high I guess?
Can someone recommend some settings for me? Somewhere to start and I can tweak... I'd like to keep the viewing window as large as possible. Some of the streaming settings are too small.
I have Flip4Mac installed for making the .wmv files. Suggestions there are welcome too.
    Cheers,
    P

    Nevermind.
I just found out Snow Leopard can only write HFS+ on CD and DVD for data.
I have a utility called "Burn" that is freeware and it lets me choose the filesystem - including Joliet and hybrid.

  • Lost settings and WEP vs WPA2

My WRT310n lost all its settings. A Linksys tech walked me through setting it up again... took 50 minutes via phone. I was thrilled to daeth and happy with the results. However, being a total novice to wireless routers, that begs 2 questions....
    1. Could I have inserted the DVD that came with the router and configured it again like I did when I first bought it... thus avoiding a 50 mintue call?
    2. The tech had me set it up with WEP security. I had read that WPA2 was the strongest security and used it when I first bought the router. The tech said they were equal and that WEP is better with a system running windows XP. I'm nervous about having WEP. Should I be?
Lastly, a comment....  I searched the Linksys sight for 20+ minutes trying to find how to reconfiguremy router... all to no avail... thus necessitating the call to tech... quite disappointing.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide to my rookie questions!!!
    Jim

The tech told you that WEP is equal to WPA2???
WEP is a real basic security. Better than nothing, but not much better. WPA2 is about as good as you'll get at the moment for household use.

  • Lost ability to move items between spaces with gestures after 10.7 download.  Setting issue or glitch?

I downloaded OSX 10.7.2 like the rest of the world and besides icloud conversion issues I noticed that I could not move items (files, jpg's, etc.,) from one "Space" (desktop) to another.  I've gone through all the "gesture" settings in the System prefs and there's nothing to do with it.  Using the key fuctions (Control + 1, 2, 3) still allows for moving objects while you have it selected, however if you select any object with the trackpad no gestures work.  Anyone else seen this issue? Is there a setting that I've missed?

I have absolutely the same problem since the last update. However I really think it is a glitch, because after stubbornly trying dragging a file while using the multi gestures I discovered the following:
    • It works only if you grab the file in the moment you use the multi gesture. It’s like a cat and mice game :D, I wouldn’t say it is a workaround, but just a proof that probably they will fix it.

  • Help! I lost half my movies

Hello, I upgraded my Power PC G5 tower 1.6 mghz to a new '11 Mac mini.
During transfer, only about 80 out of 140 movies actually transfered to the new computer. I went to the old computer to see what was missing. The movies on the old computer now have exclamation points(!). It says the files cannot be found. I then pushed the "locate" button, but no luck.
Is there someway that I can find these movies on time machine? The external drive I used on the old computer is now working on the new computer.
If there is any way of recovering these movies, would anyone know how to recover them from Time Machine?
    Thank you for any help.
    mhh

The ! Means that the path to the file has been lost. You can re- associate which seems to be a bit of a pain at this point if the movis did not get moved to the new Mac.
You can search your HD for the movies files and add them back into iTunes. The default location should be - HD>Users>Your Account>Music>iTunes Music>Movies.
It is possible that the movies did transfer but you will need to re-associate the path. iTunes is a data base manager so if things get 'moved' iTunes can loose the path.
Or as noted re-d/l the movies that are eligible.
