  • Browser not connecting after returning from sleep, but email and imessage working fine

My Browsers are not able to access the Internet after returning from sleep. This effects other browsers (Firefox & Chrome) as well. The connectivity from mail and iMessage is working fine. I am also hardwired and not using WiFi.

I have the same problem since updating to Yosemite, works fine after restarting but once it goes in to sleep it affects email as well as browsers, I have a broadband connection. Also accessing the app store is hit and miss, it's either working or simply not not working.
It also affects other devices trying to connect to the internet over wifi via the airport time capsule, the problems started after installing Yosemite.

  • Network issues after returning from sleep mode

I'm noticing this issue on T440, Twists, T420s, whether it's Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 7.  Sometime around the end of last year and the beginning of this year, my users suddenly started reporting problems with the machines after returning from sleep mode.  The network adapter (whether plugged in or using wifi), would show limited connectivity and would not connect to the internet until the machine is rebooted.
I've tried updating drivers, using system restores, disabling the network adapters from shutting down to conserve power, OS network diagnosis & network adapter resets, none of which has worked.  Hibernation is disabled on all machines.
The only fix I have is to reinstall the OS over the top of the system and reinstall all updates.  Looking for help with this issue.
    Thanks!

  • Retina MBP - visual glitches after returning from sleep

On the new Retina MBP (using the highest res setting), I'm noticing that there are significant visual glitches (ghosting, persistent blocks, lack of redraw, etc...) upon returning from sleep.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Yup, I'm having the same problem, except that my machine keeps crashing over and over again.  I've gone through the console, and it seems like different processes keep crashing (crash reporter, MDS (Spotlight), kernel_task, etc.)  I can safely boot into Safe Mode, but if I restart my machine, almost as soon as I get past the login screen, I get screen glitches and the machine either restarts itself or hangs.  NOT HAPPY.
MBP Retina 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB hard drive.  I installed all of the latest software updates (Thunderbolt, MBP Retina update, MBP mid-2012 OS X version, etc.)
I transferred over all files and apps from my mid-2011 MBP overnight.  I thought it was some incompatibility with installed software on my old machine (from which I'm typing this), so I started uninstalling things as soon as I could get logged in.  Little Snitch, gone.  EyeTV, gone.  SMCFanControl, gone.  Going through the Console, I saw that an old ATI program was trying to launch, so I pulled that and all of its associated .kext files out.  Nothing worked.  So, I'm reinstalling Lion on that machine right now, and we'll see how it goes.
I've spent my entire morning working on this *&(%^ thing.  I am NOT pleased.  I don't have time to be a beta tester for Apple.

  • Airport issue after wake from sleep (lion)

With 10.6, this was not a problem. With Lion, very often after wake up from sleep mode, the system is unable to reconnect to my airport extreme base station. Killing the prefs in the library did not help. Any suggestions?

My wife's Macbook has EXACTLY the same problem and I've been through dozens of suggestions trying to fix it and the problem still persists.
The problem started right after I upgraded to Snow Leopard but also installed an Airport Extreme router and WPA2 wireless encryption. I've deleted all the networks, changed the order to put the Airport as the highest preference, deleted all the keys on the keychain, ran DiskUtility, all to no avail.
I'm not sure if this is somehow related to the Airport Extreme or occurs with any router. Also, have another MacBook Pro (unibody), and it does't have this problem connecting to the same Airport Extreme.
The other factor is it is intermittent --- and doesn't always fail. Rebooting the Macbook or the router will get it to re-connect, as will shutting off and turning on the Airport several times. But that's not a solution to the problem.
Apple needs to pay attention to this as many people are now reporting the problem.

  • Airport Issue After Waking From Sleep (White Unibody MacBook)

Hi all. On my new white unibody MacBook I have an Airport issue that always occurs after I wake the MacBook from sleep. I'm wondering if any of you have a similar issue and/or might not how to solve it.
Basically, when I wake the MacBook from sleep, it connects to my wireless network (and to whichever network I happen to be using at the time). A few seconds later, it will drop the connection, an exclamation mark will appear on top of the Airport icon on the menu bar, and when I click on the icon I see "Alert: No Internet Connection."
Then, if I just sit and wait, eventually Airport will connect to the network. But I have to wait -- selecting the network from the available list or turning Airport off and on doesn't help. And sometimes waiting isn't enough -- I sometimes have to go to "Create Network ..." and start all over to get a connection.
I've upgraded to 10.6.2 and the issue persists. I'd appreciate any help.

  • Weird stuff after return from sleep mode

Recently after returning my mac from sleep mode I have had the following problems:
light on caps lock won't go out
top right of menu bar is not showing clock, airport, spotlight etc and when I point mouse at it I just get the spinning coloured disk
when I try and shut down or log off it doesn't work and I eventually get the mirror agent message. After a few tries it will move to a blue screen which doesn't go away meaning I have to just turn the machine off
None of the above happens after a full shut down only a log out/sleep
    Any thoughts???

  • No airport connection after waking from sleep

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to 10.4.11 from 10.3.9 and now whenever I wake my Powerbook from sleep I lose my wireless connection. I can restore the connection by going up to the menu bar and turning Airport Off and then back on. However, I am looking for a permanent fix.
I have searched this forum and found no solutions which fix this problem.
    JP

Okay. I found a solution and thought I would share.
I needed to go into the Network Preference pane and select "Edit Locations" from the "Location" pop-up menu. I then deleted the "Automatic" location and made a new location I named "Home" and all is well again!
So again, if you experience the problem I originally posted about after upgrading or updating your OS, try creating a new "location" in the Network Preference pane. I found it was pretty easy and I didn't even need to re-enter the Airport network info or password. I just double-clicked my home network from a list of networks which appeared when creating the new location.
    Cheers!

  • AirPort Extreme After My Computer Sleeps

When I wake up my MacBook from sleeping, something I try to avoid in the first place, I always lose my connection to the external HD plugged in to my AirPort Extreme.
I'll still have a connection to the internet, but I'll be logged in as a "Guest" on my external drive. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
I just upgraded to Leopard, but I was experiencing the problem prior. The AirPort Extreme is set for 802.11n.
The only solution I've found is to go into the AirPort Utility and reset the AirPort Extreme. This gets to be a slightly annoying.

I was browsing discussions, searching for a solution for exactly this problem. My cold comfort now is just - I am not alone
I have an iMac and a MB (both 10.5.2) connected to Airport Extrem (mixed mode). Either of both computers may fall asleep and the Airdisk connection is broken for both computers. Internet connection is not affected. It is anything else but an accident - 100% reproduceable. The only way to recover is a restart of the Airport Extreme.
I already wrote a feedback to Apple. I suggested to add a Restart-Button to the disk utility. To bad ...

  • Mac Mini WiFi (airport) fails after waking from sleep

I recently bought a Mac Mini (Mid 2010 model)...my first Apple computer since my dearly departed IIe.  I've been having repeated intermittent issues with the WiFi on this machine.
Owning it for two weeks, then one day it woke from sleep, and decided it no longer knew the password to my wireless network.  With everything else in my house on wireless, I knew that the password had not been changed (I am using WPA2).  Every time I would retype the password, I would get either a 'Connection Timeout' error, or an 'Incorrect Password' error.  Every once in a while it would connect, but it would not get a valid IP.
Restarted the system, and then it tells me there's 'No Airport Card Installed'
Reset PMU/SMU/PRAM (etc) and the airport card comes back, but it STILL will not connect.
I go into keychain, and delete the saved wireless password.
    I create a new 'location'.
    No go.
So I made a trip with my machine to the Genius bar at my local apple store.  Miracle of miracles, it WORKS PERFECTLY from the moment they turn it on. Get it home, it continues to work perfectly.  This was Saturday.
This morning, same problem starts again.  I was having similar issues with my iPad not connecting to the WiFi when waking from sleep, but this was fixed when I factory reset the iPad.  I've never experienced this issue with either of my iPod touches (3rd and 4th gen).  I'm not having any wireless problems with my PS3, Wii, Blu-ray player, Android phone, Nook, HP Printer, or Windows laptop.
    My router is a D-link F5D8235-4 v2000, with firmware 2.01.09 (latest available)

  • Wifi Lost and Network Preferences Inaccessible after Resume from Sleep

    Macbook Pro,  shipped with Lion.
I've had a problem when Lion resumes from sleep of not being able to access any networks.  Specifically, the wifi symbol in the menu bar shows the pulsating waves, when clicked it reports that it is searching for networks, however it doesn't find the standard wireless network it is normally connected to at home, nor can I choose any further options in that dropdown menu.   Specifically, I cannot access Network Preferences, via any GUI based method (don't know enough CLI to know how).
Most alarming is that this has happened in a couple of different scenarios:
    1) normally putting the laptop to sleep if 2 different users are logged in via fast user switching
    2) if the computer shuts itself down from the sleep position because it has been unplugged for too long.
Restarting does revert everything back to normal, but I was hoping for a less drastic fix.  Sorry to gripe, but I'm especially disappointed because I'm a mac newbie, and between this and other problems, have had to restart this mac due to spinning pinwheels of death and the like more in 2 months than I ever have a Sony Vaio Z running Windows 7.  Kind of disappointing that Mac has the less stable operating system.

That's awkward. It may not be the Mac itself making it unstable, but yet programs on it making it unstable (lazy developers maybe). Although do remember that OS X Lion is fairly new, and a few bugs are still being ironed out.
First thing you should do is Repair permissions. Open up Disk Utility, Chose your disk on the Left and click on the Repair Permissions button. This can take about 20 minutes and fixes most problems.
    Questions:
Have you installed any additonal system prefence panels?
Have you installed any programs that alter with WiFi?
Does your WiFi Access point have enough strength for where you are?
If you have installed addional system preferences then I suggest that you go to Finder, and in the top bar click on "Go" and navigate to "Go To Folder". In that box put this: "~/Library/PreferencePanes" (No quotes though - and remember the "~" ).
It'll take you to a folder, copy those into a safe location and remove the contents of that folder.
If you are an Administrator of your computer then do the same in "/Library/PreferencePanes".
Hope all goes well! Good luck!

  • Airport disconnected after waking from sleep

Hi... I posted what follows below a couple months back and am still having the same problem so I decided to put it out there again with a little more information...
Though not always, still most of the time when I allow my MacBook Pro to go to sleep, when I wake it up I am nearly always disconnected from my Airport connection (I connect to a NetGear wireless router via my internal Airport card). I go up to the menu bar and click on the now grey airport icon and I do still see my network in the list of available networks. I click on it, after several seconds a message comes up that says "there was an error joining the Airport network "network name""... But I then simply click on OK (rather than Try Again, I've learned that by trial and error) and the network reconnects just fine... Then when I let the machine sleep again at some later time, I do that all again... Any suggestions of what might be going on??? I do have "Use Interference Robustness" turned on (not that I know why exactly) but I've also had it off before and that seems not to matter...
One response I got when I posted the above a couple of months ago suggested that with respect to the question (in Airport settings) of "By Default, join??" that I set that to "Preferred Networks" (which I have done for the past two months) rather than what I had that set to before, which was "Automatic"... But the same problem still persists... And what might be causing the deal where I get the above mentioned error message and yet hitting OK always causes the Airport card to go ahead and connect??? The other option of "Try Again" would have left me spinning my wheels forever had I not once discovered by trial and error that clicking "OK" was my path to getting connected...
    Any suggestions??? thanks... bob..

When the MBP goes to sleep all of the non-essential
hardware is turned off. That includes the Airport
hardware. When you wake it up it has to establish a
new connection. The problem that you are having
establishing a new connection is exactly the way mine
has worked since day 1 (10 months ago). It does not
matter if it was sleeping or completely off. I end
up clicking on retry for up to 30 times to get it to
connect. This is only true if I am using the
battery. If I am on AC power when the MBP is turned
on, it always connects immediately. Either the power
supplied to the Airport hardware is different when on
AC power or the AC power cord is acting as a
supplemental antenna. I have tried all of the
"fixes" reported here and none of them have done
anything to solve the problem. I am using WPA
security. It is not a case of a corrupted key since
it always connects immediately when on AC power.
Windows XP under Bootcamp always connects immediately
on battery so I lean toward the insufficient power to
the Airport hardware when running on battery theory.
    Hi Retired Engineer
My brand new apple computer behaves exactly as you describe it. My wife's notebook PC with WInXP does not.
It was driving me nuts for a couple of days until I found your reply and tested in wich situations connection is lost. It still drives me nuts but at least now I know when it will happen (when on battery power) and when the computer will behave normally (when on AC power).
Apple, please solve this very annoying problem ASAP!!!

  • Airport Extreme Stopping G5 from Sleeping.. Help!!

I have just upgraded to Leopard. Before the upgrade my G5 would go to sleep automatically as set in the Power saving prefs.
After upgrading to leopard I found that my G5 will not automatically go to sleep.
After pulling my hair our I have finally discovered that my airport is keeping my G5 powermac awake.
If I disconnect my networked printer and DSL modem from the modem, it does not go to sleep. When I disconnect the airport to G5 cable the G5 goes to sleep.
My Airport SW/firmware seems to be up to date.
    Has anyone got any ideas?
Anything I can do with the ports to stop it from pinging my G5 and keeping it awake?
    Any ideas are welcome!
    Thanks,
    Steve.

Although I know you tried resets, but please give the following a go:
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.
