Lost Sound after burning to iDVD

I have 53 minutes of marching bands that plays perfectly in iMovie. I chose the White Reflections theme in iDVD and the project works on the computer. After hours of transferring the DVD looks beautiful but there is no sound. The original sound is embedded in the HD formatted tape. I really need some suggestions since the Band Director is depending on this DVD.
Thanks
Paul

Hi PointeCap:
Welcome to discussions!
This is what Apple has to say regarding your problem:
iDVD 6: No audio on finished DVD

Might want to be sure you have all of the iLife apps updated- ( ie QuickTime, iMovie, iDVD, etc.)

  • Foreign audio after burning in iDVD

I am running iMovie with Tiger on eMacs. I have 13 computers in a classroom. Sometimes when I burn in iDVD, the burn is successful, but there is only identical foreign audio over the whole disk. I have four uses set up on each eMac. the foreign audio if from totally different user than the one I am logged into. This plays on both the theme upon loading the disk, and on every movie. Movies play fine in iMovie and when testing in preview in iDVD. Usually I trash preferences and this clears it up. Now, two of my computers are not fixed with this method. I got one to work after trashing and repairing preferences, rebooting, then rebuilding the iDVD project with a totally new project. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Lost Sound After Upgrade

Solved (for now at least). The problem appears to be a bug with alsa. Alsaconf writes a file called /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf, which contains the aliases for the sound card. But for some reason it then wasn't reading the file. Copying the alias entries to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to read directly from there seems to have worked.
Now to fix the frequency scaling.
    ===================== solved ===========================
I lost all sound after the last upgrade. I just rebooted because frequency scaling is also not working, and no sound.
all drivers seem to be there:

I tried firefox, xine, mythfrontend, avidemux2, xmms and mpg123 - there's no sound in any app. If I play something where there are indicators, like in xmms, the eq indicator levels jump, the song progresses like it's playing, but no sound. I reran alsaconf, it seems to be configured properly. The mixer sliders work and aren't muted. It doesn't work either as root or as user.
I have another computer hooked up through the line out and the sound still works fine there, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem.
I'm completely stumped at this point. If it's a bug somewhere, what's it a bug in to cause global sound loss? Is there anything else I'm overlooking? All I can think is that it must be muted somewhere, but I can't find it. Or else it has something to do with the cpu and cpu freq scaling that's also broken now.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Problem: DVD won't loop after burning in iDVD '08

    I need help.
I made a slideshow in Keynote '08 and sent it directly to iDVD (iLife'08) for burning. I wanted to burn it to DVD and have it show continuously (loop) at a kiosk.
I selected the presentation and had set iDVD (Advance Menu) to "Loop". The loop icon showed up on the "map menu" for the selected presentation.
As I read in other forums, I also set the "button" for Play Movie with a TRANSITION.
After burning and playing it on two DVD players, the DVD won't automatically loop. It just freezes after it completes one play.
I also did the "REPEAT" button on the DVD Player Remote and still won't loop.
I went back to iDVD and removed the Loop option and burned DVD. I was hoping that I can play it back with just setting the DVD player itself to REPEAT disc. Again, the DVD won't repeat or loop.
I also converted the keynote presentation to quicktime first then moved it to iDVD for conversion and burning to DVD. The results are the same above.
I need to know if there is a step I am missing or a procedure not followed properly.
    Thanks in advance!

Check these instructions from iDVD Help to see if you missed anything.
+_Here are ways to turn looping on or off_:+
+Double-click a slideshow button on the DVD menu to open the slideshow editor. Click the Settings button and select the “Loop slideshow” checkbox.+
+Select a slideshow icon in map view, and then press Command-I to open the Slideshow Info window. Select the “Loop Slideshow” checkbox, and then close the window.+
+Click a movie or slideshow button on the DVD menu, or a movie, slideshow, or autoplay movie icon in map view, to select it, and then choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow.+
+When looping is turned on, a checkmark appears next to the command in the menu. To turn off looping, select it again to remove the checkmark.+
+To turn looping off for a background movie on a menu, open the Menu Info window. With your pointer over the menu (but with no buttons or text items selected), press Command-I. Move the Loop Duration slider to zero.+
If you have followed these directions and are still having the same problem, give this basic remedy a try. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
If the problem persists, do the following for troubleshooting purposes. While working on your project in iDVD, create a disk image. Go to File>Save as disk image. This will create a file that can be viewed on your computer's DVD player. You will be able to see just how your project will work when viewed on a regular DVD player. You will be able to catch errors and correct them before burning and possibly wasting a disk. If the disk image plays correctly, then you know that the encoding is being done correctly. This would point to problems with the burn process. If there are problems with the disk image, then the issue is with encoding.
    I hope this helps.

  • Converting WMV to MPEG into IDVD looses sound after burning

When i convert a movie maker film (not my own ofcourse)into mpeg and burn it with IDVD There is no sound anymore. Can anyone help me with that?

I converted it on an other machine to mpg (windows XP) and then put it into a menu of IDVD. When i do a preview everything works OK, but when i burn the dvd there is no sound anymore.

  • My iMovie project has sound, but no sound when burned in iDVD

I created a movie in iMovie then burned the disc in iDVD. The sound is good when I play the project in iMovie, but after I burned the disc in iDVD I cannot hear any sound. What should I do?
    THanks

The following info was obtained from the Apple knowledge base:
Delete encoded assets from the project.
Burn another disc or Save as Disc Image, mount the image and test in DVD Player and then burn your DVD with Disk Utility.
This issue can also occur if third-party (non-Apple) QuickTime plug-ins are installed. If the issue still occurs after trying the steps above, check for third-party plug-ins in ~/Library/QuickTime/ and /Library/QuickTime. Move these to the desktop, and then log out and log back in to the computer

  • Voice and Video out of sync after burn in iDVD

We are having trouble keeping the voices and movement together after a burn. Can anyone give us a suggestion?

    Barbara and Amy
You may have experienced what many of us have encountered. Cameras are usually set to record in 12 bit audio. When these recordings reach iMovie they edit and play fine but when they go on iDVD the sound is out of sync.
Switch your camera to 16-bit in future to prevent/minimise the effect.
You should also look at a couple of apple pages http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42974 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61636

  • Video clip sound after burning

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 10, and I recently made a music video. I put a soundtrack to it. I turned the video clip sound all the way off and just let the soundtrack play over it, like a music video. I then burned it to a disk and played it on my DVD player. When it was playing, I noticed that the video clip sound and the soundtrack were both playingand over lapping each other. I burned several disks after turning every other sound off but the soundtrack, and still the video clip was playing over it. Please give me advice on how to fix it, as it would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
First, I would play the Timeline with the Audio Mixer Panel open, and watch for the Levels of the other Video Tracks. You can also use that to Mute other Audio Tracks.
One can also Alt-click on the Audio portion of the Clip, and just Delete that.
Now, did you place your music onto the Fixed Soundtrack Audio Track? Some users have experienced problems with the two Fixed Tracks, Soundtrack and Narration, and the normal "fix" is to just drag the music (or narration) to an empty, "regular" Audio Track.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Lost music on burning in idvd

I  put together photos in imovie 11 with 30s  background music taken from ilife music to play right through.  I had some voice overs and other sound effects too.  The dvd is 13 min long.  It all works in preview perfectly and in idvd revolution too.  When I burn the last 2 minutes of the music and voice over disappears.  Have re-done several times but it fails each time in the same spot.  Hope you can help please.

    Hi
    Two Qs
1 Did You use iDVD SlideShow function ? - I use iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut = 100% control
2 Did You use audio from iTunes ? - I do in iTunes collect needed audio into a new Playlist - then BURN this out as an Audio-CD (NOT .mp3 - but as .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz) - This audio I use in my movie/slide projects.

  • Where is footage after burning to idvd?

Trying to do a football highlight video for my three boys for Xmas. Once I burn to DVD where does the footage go? Can't find it anywhere? I want to make some changes. The burned DVD has great quality though!

Multiple Procedures for Saving an iDvd Project and how they differ:
    Saving an iDVD project
There are several ways to save your iDVD project, and which you use depends on what you plan to do with your project.

Saving: As you work on your DVD project, save it periodically to safeguard your work.

Archiving: When you want to move or back up your finished project to another computer, you should archive it.
Archiving creates a copy of your project, keeping all of its elements together and linked within the project file. It can take a while to archive a large project, but after you do, you can move the file to another computer or hard disk, and then open it at any time for further editing or burning to a DVD.

Saving as a disc image: When you save a disc image of your project, a file is created that is formatted just like a finished DVD, except that it’s not actually burned on a disc. All the media is compressed into the format used on a DVD, and you can play it on your computer by double-clicking the disc image icon. You can move the disc image to another computer or hard disk, but you cannot edit it. When you’re ready to burn the disc image to a DVD, use Disk Utility in Mac OS X.
NOTE: If you burn your project to a double-layer disc, you should burn directly from iDVD rather than from a disc image. Burning from a disc image may cause the DVD to freeze on some DVD players.

Saving as VIDEO_TS folder: Saving a project as a VIDEO_TS folder allows you to play it back, on your computer, using software such as VLC media player. Saving as a VIDEO_TS folder is similar to saving as a disc image: the output quality is the same, and both methods take about the same amount of time to complete. You can’t burn a disc from a VIDEO_TS folder.
Here are ways to save your project:

To save your project, choose File > Save.

To save your project with a different name, choose File > Save As.
This creates another copy of your project with the new name. If you do not want both copies, delete the one you don’t want.

To archive your project, choose File > Archive Project.

To create a disc image, choose File > “Save as Disc Image.”

To save your project to a VIDEO_TS folder, choose File > “Save as VIDEO_TS folder.”

  • After burning from iDVD...

After completing my final project in iDVD and burning to DVD looks bad on a HDTV flat screen. I use a Sony AVCD SR-11 HD camcorder.

    Hi
There are no HD version of iDVD till yet.
SD version is equal to old TV standard and that is max from iDVD
    To get HD You need
    • Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl Blue-Ray component
    • Blue-Ray burner and disks (DVD can be used for small projects about 20 minutes)
    • Blue-Ray Player eg PlayStation 3 (even for the DVD made after BR-standard)
There are factors that might reduse the quality from iDVD below SD standard.
    My collection on this
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2.Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU
    *unclemano wrote*
What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario

  • Audio drop out after burning to iDVD

I am running FCE 2 and checked all of my audio (mixed it down and everything). Plays well when I run FCE. When I burn the clips to iDVD, I notice that the audio drops out in certain scenes, and it's the same scenes. Ruined 5 dvds so far after trying to a few things.
I am using all internal HDs (Extended Journaled). Any suggested would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi
    a. Audio from iTunes - has to be used by a work around
I do - create a Playlist in iTunes with needed audio
Burn out as an Audio-CD (.aiff) Not .mp3
Use this audio in Your FinalCut project
    b. I do from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Not selfcontained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME Conversion (Important)
    c. To get iDVD to run OK
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk ! (others of no importance)
    • I use Verbatim DVDs
    • DVD-R
    • Burn speed set down to x4 or x1 (only relevant to newer iDVD)
(Instead download the Hack (Hurz and Pfurz) that makes it possibly to do a DiskImage with iDVD4
if earlier iDVD versions - forget this
then save as a DiskImage - test it with DVD-player tool and see that it runns OK
THEN do the actual DVD burn by using Disk Util tool from this DVD image You just did.
AND Here You can set down burn speed to x4 or x1.
    • iDVD 4 disc image burning can be enabled through the patch Hurz and Pfurz - search the net.
    Good luck Yours Bengt W
