Lost sound from the internal speakers

My sound work perfectly from the headphone or any external speakers. But I don't have any sound from my speakers and the sound control get locked when I pool out the headphone mini-jack and the audio outport stay lit. any solution?

This problem is surprisingly common.
The usual reason for this problem is that a microswitch in the headphone socket has got stuck.  You can confirm this by looking into the headphone socket - if you can see a red light, then the switch is stuck.
The solution is plug and unplug some headphones into the socket 20-30 times.  If that doesn't work, then use a non-conducting probe to reach into the socket and gently release the switch.
Best wishes

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Good day!
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.
    Have a great day ahead.

  • Probook 4530s (Win 7, 64-bit) - suddenly stopped playing sound from the internal speakers!

    Hi all,
Recently I was watching youtube video on the laptop and the sound from speakers just gone! Just like someone disconnect the speakers, sound silly, I know
I restarted the the laptop then, but speakers are still not giving any sound at all. I can only hear the sound coming through the connected headphones.  I checked all the drivers and everything seem to be fine. Here is a screen shoot from device manager:

  • It kept bugging me so I upgraded to ITunes 10.4.1.  Now I can't get any sound from the internal speakers or my headphones.  Any ideas?

I'm using a Macmini with Snow Leopard.  Everything is up-to-date according to the software updates manager.  Can I go back to the previous version?  I work from home and have very noisy neighbors so my music allows me to stay focused.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Two suggestions:
    1.  Check iTunes volume (the slider left of the progress bar).  It's separate from the system volume.
    2.  Often, speaker problems can be resolved by resetting your computer's PRAM.  This explains how: Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  • For 1/11/11 expert day: can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers

HP Pavilion dv6135nr Notebook internal speakers have stopped working.  I can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers.  A search on HP customer care for my notebook yielded the download recommendation below, even though I had not stated my problem.  However, executing this download did NOT resolve the problem.  Please advise regarding resolution to inoperable speakers.  I do not know if all of my sound and audio settings are correct, but the mute is not on and the volume controls are properly set.  The default device is Conexant High Definition Audio output, per the sound and audio devices properties hardware  tab the device status states "this device is working properly."  Is it possible that a Skype or Foxfire update is in conflict with this device?  If so, how do I resolve this situation?
    Thank you.
Description: This package contains the driver for the Conexant High Definition Audio Chip.

Re: Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged.
HOW DO YOU FIX THIS?? I cannot find the correct Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio that works with my computer...
    My computer:
    VISTA
    HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC
Everytime I use my headphones for more than an hour or two, the **bleep** audio will not play on my notebook's speakers, just through the headphones. Usually restarting a few times resolves the problem, but not this time. If I knew that HP computers sucked this much I would never have spent so much money on this one!!!
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem once and for all? Thanks!!

  • I currently have no sound from my internal speakers. When I go to system preferences, internal speakers is not an option - there is nothing there. What should I do to fix this?

I don't know what to do - I don't have any sound coming from my internal speakers, and with headphones there is still no sound coming out. When I go into system preferences under sound, there is nothing there - it says 'no output devices'. What should I do?

    MacBook Pro model?
Hard to suggest a solution without knowing the model.
The following tips may not apply to latest MacBook Pro 13 inch model.
Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • Changing the sound to the internal speakers

I had my MacBook hooked up to a tv to play a movie, and I changed the sound settings so it played through the tv speakers. Now I can't get it to change back to the MacBook's internal speakers. Help?

Then you didn't disconnect from the TV in a proper manner.  Don't just unplug the cable.  Switch your sound and video outputs back to the internal systems on the laptop and then unplug the cable.  I've seen and heard a lot of people have issues with quick disconnecting interfaces like that and expecting the Mac to switch back properly.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

  • Recording audio from the web without recording sound from the internal microphone...

Is there a way to record audio sound sources, for example a webcast in a browser, without without also recording sound thru the built in internal microphone on the MacPro laptop running Mountain Lion?

You need something along the lines of Audio Hijack Pro or WireTap Studio.  The latter is currently broken in Lion and Mountain Lion for your purposes, so that leaves Audio Hijack Pro.  Neither is free, but both are worth their asking price (well, WireTap Studio will be once they deign to repair it).

  • HT1338 after I unplugged my headphones I have lost the use of the internal speakers

Kbnowing this problem I NEVER insert headphones in my computer. This time it happened by accident, and it happened: no more sound from the internal speakers, and no way to solve the problem.
This is an unending problem that I've had with my previous MBP and now the same problem occurs again and I can't find an answer.
Previously the problem vanished by itself after restarting several times.
    This time not.

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
