Lost Sound / No Audio Device

I have a k7n415 Pro Board using on-board audio.  Updated NVIDIA drivers on Windows Update Site, then lost all sound.  Tried rolling back driver and still no sound.  Device  (NVIDIA NFORCE MCP Audio Processing Unit and Audio Codec Interface) shows in control panel/system/hardward with no conflicts.  However, sound and audio system devices in control panel says "no audio devices."
I also tried to go back a day using Windows Restore point, but got a message that Windows could not restore back to that point.
I'm stumped.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I reinstalled drivers from disk that came with computer, but can still only connect at reduced speed settings.

  • Satellite P30-145: Don't have an audio device in 'Sounds and Audio devices'

    Hi guys,
I've only just fixed one problem with the help of one fantastic member but now I have another!
All of a sudden my speakers decide not to work!! I checked the volume etc and alll was fine but when I went in control panel>sounds and audio devices it says I don't have an audio device!!!
It worked fine this morning and I havn't done anything that could have done this.
These problems I'm having are all spontaneous, I don't know what's going on!
Does anyone know how I can fix this and does anyone suspect virus activity? (I have done a scan which said I don't have any)
    I use a P30-145
    Many thanks

    Hi
Did you check the device manager?? Is the sound card listed properly in the device manager or some yellow exclamation marks appear?
Did you try to reinstall the sound driver? If not, please try it.
Of course I would also recommend to update the anti virus applications and to scan the system for virus and malware

  • Problems with sound drivers - audio device on high definition audio bus

i turned on my computer one day and the sound was gone. no "speaker" icon in the lower right-hand corner of the screen; no choices available via the "control panel: sounds and audio devices" icon. when i went to device manager, i saw "audio device on high definition audio bus" had a yellow exclamation mark. i saw some sites suggested downloading the realtek high definition audio, but that didn't seem to work -- and now i don't see the audio device on high definition audio line either.
any ideas? from what i've read, i gather this is a somewhat common problem but no solid way to fix this. i know something similar has happened to me a year ago but i was able to fix it somehow.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
Have you tried installing the latest audio device drivers for your ThinkPad?  If so, did that solve the problem?

  • Audigy , Sound and Audio Devices Properties 'No Audio Device' appears

<p class="MsoNormal">Out of the blue, in the Sound and Audio Devices Properties, on the Volume tab ?No Audio Device? appears.
On the Sound tab of Sound and Audio Devices Properties, my Default Device says ?Modem # Line play back and is my only drop down choice. I made no configuration changes or installed any new software, it just stopped working.
I have searched for solutions, to no avail. I have an ?!? next to the Microsoft Kernel Audio Mixer in Device Manager that upon re-install displays a message that there was a problem installing this hardware(MEDIA) I/O operation has been aborted because of either a threadd exit or an application request(both installing from driver folder and recovery CD).
I don?t particularly care what sound device I have, just one that works again. I?ve uninstalled the sound devices and let them re-install on reboot and have checked the BIO settings (I don?t have any sound related settings there).

Audigy shares IRQ with IDE controller and firewire controller. This is not good.
NOTE: I suppose you're running your PC on "Standard PC" -mode (since IRQ's >5 not showing). If so, you can try to assign IRQ for the PCI slot, Audigy is installed, manually from BIOS. See your motherboard manual page 4-26.
Can you check if your PC is running as "Standard PC" and not as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" (Device Manager --> Computer). Make it "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" --> you get more IRQs (virtual) in use.
NOTE: You may need to reinstall OS to get this done.
Also you may need to enable APIC mode on BIOS.
    How To:
    A) Go to 'Device Manager' a short cut to get there is "Right Click" on the My computer Icon on your desktop (Control Panel --> System --> Hardware),
    B) Next click on 'Computer', then double click on 'Standard PC'. Then select 'Driver' and then 'Update Driver'.
    C) At this point you will see a screen pop up asking you to do this "Automatically" or Select 'Display a list of the known drivers for this device', - Choose this option.
    D) Next you will see - 'Show all hardware of this device class'. Now you can select "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" in the list shown in the window to the right.
    E) Now Windows needs/will re-start and re-install all hardware/ settings needed to run in this configuration.

  • No sound and audio device not working properly, T61 vista

I unistalled the audio device SoundMax integrated HD audio because I had problems getting the mic of my new webcam (Logitech pro 9000) to work. But after reinstalling the SoundMax audio driver the audio device is no longer working.
Installing the SoundMax driver doesn't report any problems and the device manger also says that the SoundMax integrated digital hd audio device is working properly. But the speaker icon on the taskbar is crossed out. When hovering the mouse over the speaker icon it says Volume: 0 SoundMax integrated digital hd audio. When opening the Volume Mixer it says "No audio decivice is installed"...
I've completly removed all drivers and reinstalling several times but I cannot get it to work so I really need some help now.
All software + drivers regarging the webcam has been completly removed.
    System data:
    T61, Vista business
Audio chip seems to be a Analog Devices 1984
SoundMax driver version 6.10.1.5510 (latest available from lenovo)

Really silly bug, but there are times with the T series laptops, specifically the T61s that seem to not project the sound through the speakers and the way to fix it is to just keep hitting the silver volume buttons up by your power button on the actual laptop.  This may or may not work for you, but I literally just got done with this on a T61 running a fresh installation of XP.  The buttons on the lenovo itself control the direct signal input and do a very poor job with integrating with Windows Vista and XP.
Let me know if that works for you.

  • Sound and audio device

hey i just format my Compaq C707TU laptop and its sound and audio driver not working, please suggest me for proper driver to install in my laptop.

    Hi,
    For XP:
Before Conexant Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) here
Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers here
This will create a swsetup folder in c drive ("C:\swsetup\sp34200")
Installing Audio drivers may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.
    Open the Device Manager:
    1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
    2. Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.
    3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"
    4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
    5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.
    6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
    7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp34200 folder and select the .inf (wis30b2a) file and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.
    Similarly install Modem Drivers:
Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP here
1.Right click on "Modem device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.
    2. Select "Install from a list or specific location"
    3. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
    4. Click Next and then select "Modem" from the list.
    5. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
    6. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp33890 folder and select the .inf (wis30b2b) file and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.
    For Vista:
    Conexant High-Definition Audio here
Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP here

  • No active mixer devices, no sound, no audio devices

HP Pavilion dv5000, Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed. Have searched all over; seems to be a common problem but none of the available solutions I could find have worked (save for system restore, to which I haven't yet resorted).

This may be an old reply, but I wouldn't advise a system restore.  Tech support told my friend to do this with his laptop and it never worked the same again, i.e. made the situation worse.  He was trying to get a high spec game to play better, but after tech supports suggestion of system restore no game worked, i.e. were so slow that were un playable.
hope this helps for the future.....

  • *FIXED* No sound and 'No Audio Device' in Control Panel. *FIX

I?m having a problem with my sound. Basically all I get is a system sound, which means no sounds from itunes but the error prompt sounds still play. I?m tempted to say that this is a detection issue because of several things:
-First, when looking in the ?sounds and audio devices? in the control panel I get grayed out selections and a ?no audio device?.
-Secondly, when running the directX diagnostic tool (typing ?dxdiag? in the ?run? window) I get several troubling indications. First under device I have no manufacturer or product ID. Second under drivers I have (copied from dxdiag text file):
    Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys
    Driver Version: 5.2.000.96 (English)
    Driver Attributes: Final Retail
    WHQL Logo'd: Yes
    Date and Size: 8//2006 4:45:38, 499584 bytes
    Other Files:
Seems hunky-doorey but then I have a note at the bottom that reads:
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I have seen another similar post that seemed to have the same problem, but they didn?t provide much information and the fix was to pull out the audio card, run start up, turn it off, and then put it back in and run start up. If this is what needs to be done, could I have a picture or something of what the sound card looks like?
This problem started when I tried to update my sound card and since then my sound has been? possessed? or prone to working at sometimes and then (most of the time)failing at others.
Here is the dxdiag.txt file without the lengthy directShow filters and directx components:

I found that once you reinstall your sound card you need to make sure you hook everything back up correctly.
basically all you need to do is run a start up with your sound card out ofyou computer and then re-run start up with the card back in.

  • Have no sound and says there is no audio device

last week i had some problems with my computer, those got fixed, but now my sound dosent wanna work. i checked everything, mute isnt on, my speakers are plugged in, all the small stuff is checked. i installed drivers and all that and still no sound...in sound and audio devices i cant click on anything and it says "No Audio Device"..could it be my speakers are fried? or my sound card?...need help bad....thanks

    DonVito,
What sound card and OS are you using? You could try this. Remove the sound card from the computer and boot up the computer without the sound card in the computer. Let Windows finish loading and then have it shutdown. Slot back the sound card to the PCI slot and boot the computer.

  • Sound is missing after start-up, disable/re-enable of the audio device required

    Hi,
I have a MSI K8N Diamond with onboard Creative Live 24! sound.
Since last weeks I have a strange problem with the sound; when I start-up the PC after some hours of inactivity, I have no sound at all. I tried to see what's happening or to find a workaround and I discovered that I can get the sound back by disabling the audio device from the control panel, restarting the PC and then re-enabling the device.
To explain the phrase "I have no sound" I can say the following: when I go to the control panel and open "Sounds and Audio devices", everything seems OK. But when I try to test for example the sound that will be used for the "Asterisk" (or whatever else), the small back triangle next to the sound name turns to a black square (normal) AND REMAINS BLACK SQUARE FOR EVER... (while normally it should turn again into a triangle within some seconds).
I re-installed XP and all the updates from Microsoft, but the problem is still there. I checked the "event viewer" but there is nothing relevant. I also tested both the original drivers from my CD and the newer ones from the MSI site.
Do you think this could be a hardware problem? An IRQ conflict probably? (I've seen that Creative uses the same IRQ with Sil3132). Any other ideas?
    Thank you,
    Petros

So you reckon it to be a hardware issue...
OK, I'll open the case in the afternoon and have a good look inside. It's true that recently I did some work (added memory, changed a HD) so probably it deserves some time to see again if everything is in tact inside.

  • No audio device on windows xp with SB0

Hello, I've a SB0060 with a cd version that does not install on windows xp. I've always had problems installing this card on windows xp but once I've managed to install it.
I was upgrading the driver to try to fix some bugs with TeamSpeak and lost all sound.
I've tried to install again the SB0060 but couldn't get it to work.
    I've tried with:
    SBLi've5XPDrvUpdate.exe
    Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe
    Li'veDrvPack_Patch.exe
    Li'veDrvPack.exe
All of the drivers install on windows xp BUT in the "sound and audio devices" gives me the finger with "no audio device".
In the device manager, No conflits, No troubles, No Shared IRQs, NOTHING! This is really driving me crazy.
Is there any driver or HowTo install this card in the web? Any fixed stuff or people with the same problem?
    Please help.

Try the CD from here instead.

  • Trouble with Audio Console "Unable to find Audio device.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and run XP Pro. Recently lost my install CD when moving back to school (crap...)
I was able to download and install the drivers for the card from creative. Windows Hardware manager says the device is working properly (more accurately the many devices associated with the sound card) and I know the device is functioning (at least in part) because I am able to play music through the digital optical out on the dri've bay panel.
At this point I am trying to install Audio Console.
I have downloaded and installed Audio Console from creative's website and then restarted my computer. Upon trying to launch the program the following message appears in a pop up:
"Unable to find Audio device. Please make sure that your audio device is enabled and installed with it's driver. This application will be closed."
I have checked 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in the control panel and it has "SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [B400]" for all selected audio devices.
What's the problem here? Has anyone encountered this problem before?
The Audigy 2 ZS Platinum is listed as compatible with the Audio Console software.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
