Lost Source List folders

In ITunes 4 I had carefully made folders with music I liked. When I upgraded to 6 I lost all source list folders. I have folders in my music folder but that is the default folders according to the name of the group and not my personal folders. Everytime I upgrade this happens. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to start all over again?
I don't think I am going to upgrade again.

The only place I've seen the folders matter (other than iTunes itself) is Front Row.
It would be nice to see these on my iPod.

  • Source List Folders - not on iPod

I searched this forum section and Apple's support sections for an answer or discussion on this problem I'm having. I created New folders in the Source List and added playlists to each folder. When I update my iPod, I only get a list of all the playlist (not separated into the folders I created). Is this correct? I spent a lot of time making those folders and adding playlists so that I could manage my iPod viewing/listening more better. Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • I've lost my source list in iPhoto

this seems so easy, but I can't find any documentation on how to view or show the source list. It was up on iPhoto a few hours ago. Now I just see a panel with all the photos in my library, The list of my over 50 albums has dissappeared.
    I run I Photo 5.0.4

    Hi ipod girl,
Sometimes people can't get that source window open, even when they try to move the dot to the right.
First try to drag the button to show the column as show here
If that doesn't work, then you need to delete the Preference file. That info (size of the source window) is kept in the iPhoto Preference file.
    Quit iPhoto
Open your User folder, then open the Library in your user folder, then open the Preferences in the Library folder.
In the Preference folder is a file called com.apple.iPhoto.plist
For now, drag that file to the desktop. Launch iPhoto and see if the source window is there or if you can open the source window. If you can, that means that Preference file you dragged to the desktop was corrupt. Put it in the trash.
IPhoto made a new one when it was launched. Open iPhoto Preferences and set your preferences again and you are good to go.

  • I cannot download photos from my digital camera to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to successfully do this up to 4 days ago but not yesterday. My camera/device is recognized in the Source List but photos won't download for me to import to library.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,
    Novice50

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • IPod not showing up in source list

A friend of mine wanted me to revamp her iPod with my music, erasing all that she had. Problem is, iTunes isn't seeing the iPod. My computer is. It's coming up as Mass Storage Device, and not showing up in the source list on iTunes. And when I opened the "Mass Storage Device" is was empty with the exception of some empty folders. The weird part is, iTunes opens when I plug it in. I already updated my iTunes software and reset the iPod with that menu center button hold manuver, and restarted my computer a few times. All the other troubleshooting stuff needs the iPod to show up in the source list, which it's not doing. So yeah. Any help would be nice.

Where did she originally connect her iPod??? It could be in MAC format and thus not allowing your device to see it... See this KB Article to determine the device's format:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1335
Besides the disclaimer of music sharing, once you erase the content of her device and load your iTunes data on there it will be ok. But of course the next friends device that she hops onto will undo the process that you've done above.
An iPod is really meant for a single users PC/MAC and syncronizing thier library. This causes some of the issues that you are seeing here.
Hope that helps, and I'll end on the piracy harping...

  • Where do I find the source list in iTunes 7

I know this sounds stupid, but I can't find the Source List! I lost my hard drive, put in a new one and reloaded iTunes, but have not reloaded all my CDs. I want to set iTunes so it will not synch up with my iPod and delete all the songs that are on the iPod, but not on iTunes. But, I see nothing labeled Source List. Where is it? Must my iPod be plugged in for it to show up -and- if it is, will I lose the music on the iPod, but not on iTunes?

You can create a smart playlist with the rule Kind is MPEG audio file.

  • IPhoto isn't displaying my source list

When I launch iPhoto, only the menu bar on the top appears. To view the photos, I need to go to View and choose Full Screen. It used to automatically open up with the Source List down the left hand side which made it easier to sort through and organise my folders (albums, events etc). Now I need to toggle between Full Screen or no screen at all. What has happened??
    Thanks.

    Greetings Monica,
While in iPhoto try going to Window > Zoom.
If that doesn't fix the issue quit iPhoto and remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto (anything with this in the name)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iphoto (anything with this in the name)
    Hope that helps!

  • My Ipod does not show in source list in itunes

I have recently downloaded itunes 7.7 (previously using 7.1) - my ipod is no longer showing in the source list in itunes although I get the usual clunk clunk sound when I attach it to the PC.
I have tried to re-set unattached from the PC and attached to the PC to no avail.
The only thing that I can think to do is to uninstall the ipod software and itunes and re-install both - but I will have to get some CDs first as I have a lot of tunes in the itune library which will be lost if I delete itunes.
Can anyone suggest anything else which may help please??
    Thanks.

I am having a similar problem. I have done the "5 R's" and even had my iPod replaced with a new one by apple (suspecting they couldn't solve the problem). But even now, with a completely new iPod, Windows (Vista) recognizes the iPod (as it did previously), but iTunes does not. The iPod displays that it is connected, but does not appear in the iTunes source list! Then, as soon as I disconnect the iPod (as there's no other way) then suddenly it appears and several error messages come up saying: "Jarad's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." !!! This is so fustrating!!!! Is there anyone out there who can help?

  • Album organization/source list question

I'm a new iPhoto user and can be somewhat 'precise' about the organization of some things. In iPhoto 4 help it tells me that I can create a new folder in the source list and that the option to do so is under the file menu. I don't see that option and would like to create folders to organize albums. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi, Jeff. It may be that you, like many other iPhoto 4 users including myself, have been inappropriately supplied (maybe by Apple's Software Update?) with the iPhoto Help file for iPhoto 5. Open iPhoto, then open iPhoto Help, and click on the "What's New in IPhoto" link. Is the blurb that appears entitled "What's new in iPhoto 5?" If so, your Help file refers to a number of features that you won't find in iPhoto 4, because they don't exist in it. One of those is the ability to organize your albums in folders. Forget it — you can't do that in iP4.
There have been quite a few posts here from people who have the wrong iPhoto Help file, and to the best of my knowledge, no one has yet figured out how it happened.

  • Disapperance of Book from iPhoto Source List

After restarting my Power Mac G5 following a software update, my Book and its duplicate disappeared from the source list in iPhoto. The 82 page Book contained over 200 photos with a file size of about 52 MB. Where did the Book and its duplicate go?

    Sam:
A good way to preserve the book for future reference is to:
1 - do a print to PDf on the book in iPhoto
2 - just before you complete the ordering process (or simulating an order) find and save the pdf file that iPhoto creates for uploading and printing. Here's how to find it:
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
3 - copy the following, “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto” (for Panther the path is ‘/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto “), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.

  • After latest iPhoto update source list icons have no color

After updating iPhoto with the latest software updates, the icons in the source list have lost their color. This happened on both my MacBook Pro and iMac. I have iLife 11.

  • How can I share my source list in one mac to another

How can I share my Iphoto source list with my other mac

And can I assume that the libraries include all of the files, folders, albums?
Yes, assuming you're running Managed Libraries
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
Yes I would recommend an externald drive.

  • Doesn't Stay in Source List

The nano doesn't stay in the iTunes source list, so I can only mess around with the settings while it's connected. With previous iPods the icon and options remained even when the iPod was disconnected. Am I missing an option box, or did they change something in iTunes 5?

I remember this feature being available only for the iPod Shuffle, and not any of the other iPods.
