Lost Startup Disk..Need to Change Password

I bought my iBook G4 from a friend. He went to Iraq and has the startup disk and the admin password...and no way to reach him... How can I change the system without having to take it to get the drive reformatted. i really dont want to do that because he left Adobe Photoshop CS on here and I know how much it would cost to go out and by it myself. Is there anywhere i can get the startup disk or something?

You can call AppleCare Support and ask for a set of replacement disks. They usually charge around $60 to replace a set of lost disks.

  • Removing the need to change password

    This is related to [Pass language parameter to MSA;
    Because we are looking to pass username and a set password with the mobileclient.exe we would like to remove the need to change password every x days
    Is there a database entry that we can change or settings in MSY that will prevent it from triggering the password change?
    This is MSA 5.0 SP11
    Thanks
    James

    Hello James,
    You can change the Password parameter using MSY.
    1> Login to MSY -> Cross-Component Settings -> Password Paramter.
    2> Select the Password Parameter "pass_exp_time" -> Parameter Value to 0.
    3> Save
    Hope this will resolve your query. This disable the need to change the password.

  • Number of days before user needs to change password

    If I enter a value for "Number of days before user needs to change password" will that effect both user and supervisor accounts or just user accounts? I have a supervisor account that we use for a lot of processes and do not want it to expire. However, our corporate security policy is to have user passwords expire at least every 90 days. Has anyone faced this before?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>Mburkett

    mburkett,<BR><BR>Version 7.X has the external authentication option. The integration with active directory is very easy and can be configured in a few minutes. However, if your Essbase user names are different than MSAD user names, you would have to replace all Essbase users with their domain ID in order to use external authentication. If the user names are the same, it is only a matter of changing the flag to use the external AD password, rather then the Essbase password. <BR><BR>If you are not using Hyperion HUB, you should install it prior to implementing External Authentication.<BR><BR>I don't know the details of your custom job scheduler, but if it is based on ESSCMD, I dont see why it would not continue to work with an upgraded version.<BR><BR>Good Luck,<BR><BR>Chris

  • I have repaired startup disk in disk utility but still get message saying startup disk needs repair, help.

    I am on a macbook pro running the latest version of yosemite. I was going to use Onyx to clean it, but I got a message stating that my startup disk needs repair. I command R went to disk utility to verify and repair and the disk was fine. However, I still get the same message when using Onyx. What should I do? Should I command R and reinstall? Will the fact that my startup disk needs repair cause a problem?

    Thank you @EricRoot, I think you may be correct. I don't get that message with other programs. However, I did locate files on my computer taking up way too much space...

  • Mac Book White with lost startup disks

    I gave my daughter my white Macbook and I believe her mother has lost the startup disks.  In cleaning the mac for her I delete itunes and some important files to allow Itunes to be reinstalled.  Is there a way to utilize my MacBook Aluminum to help restore the white Macbook to get Itunes reinstalled?

    I called Apple Customer Support (1- (800) 767-2775) to check on how much they charge for the gray restore disks that originally came with the MacBook and was quoted $16 dollars per disk plus S & H. Which would be $32 for the two disks. Just give them the serial number of your MacBook and they'll know which ones you need.
    You could try the #2 disk from your aluminum MacBook to see if it will work. You can't use the #1 disk to reinstall the OS but maybe you can use the #2 to reinstall iLife.

  • Startup disk disappeared after changing HDD

    Hi all
    Recently i changed my original 160Gb fujitsu HDD from my Macbook to WD 500gb
    i cloned my original HDD to my current HDD using carbon copy cloner via USB
    and i switched the HDD
    during my 1st startup , there is a grey screen for around 20seconds before it starts to boot Mac OS
    so i think that there should be something wrong with the startup disk
    i went to system preferences -> startup disk to check
    and then there is only network startup available...
    May i know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks.

    Most likely you used CCC in Block level (block-for-block) Copy Mode.
    You should avoid Block Level Clones on GPT disks, use file level clones instead. CCC makes bootable
    file level clones that work trouble free. The problem rears its ugly head when you restore files to
    anywhere but the same exact drive and volume you copied them from. It causes incorrect infomation
    to be recorded into the GPT partition table headers.
    http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2006/tn2166.html#SECCOPYINGCONCERNS
    For file level clones always select "incremental backup of selected items".
    http://www.bombich.com/software/docs/CCCHelp/CCCHelp.html?page=clone
    The files and folders that are required by Mac OS X on the new drive must be copied to the new
    target volume using the "Incremental backup of selected items" cloning method, also leave
    the "delete items that don't exist on the source" box unchecked when restoring your clone.
    To correct the problem you may need to recreate your partitions on the new drive, then restore
    your clone to your new drive using the file level method.

    I need to change the admin passwords on all servers. What, if anything, can I expect to break.
    Thanks

    also, you will not just change passwords from the windows account manager hopefully.
    cisco provides utilities or procedures for changing passwords in most of these environments.

  • Help needed - about change password page

    I had created a change password page and successfully connected to the access database via jdbc-odbc bridge. But, there are still some errors with the coding.
    The situation is like that: whether the NewPassword==ConfirmPassword or NewPassword!=CofirmPassword or both blank, there will always pop up a message dialog "The confirm password and new password must be same."(which I wrote in JOptionPane) and will not update the database that i had linked. I try to correct it but fail.
    Can somebody help me to correct the code below?
    Thank you!
    ========================================================================void jButton1_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
    String userid = jTextField1.getText(); //UserName
    char[] passwd2 = jPasswordField2.getPassword(); //NewPassword
    char[] passwd3 = jPasswordField3.getPassword(); //ConfirmPassword
    try {
    connection = getDBConnection();
    if( passwd2 != passwd3 ){
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The confirm password and new password must be same.", "Change Password Fail", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE );
    jPasswordField2.setText("");
    jPasswordField3.setText("");
    else {
    String query = "UPDATE UserInfo SET Password = '"+ passwd2 +"' WHERE UserID='" + userid +"'";
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement ();
    ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery( query );
    int result = statement.executeUpdate ( query );
    if ( result == 1 )
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog ( null," Password successfully changed", "Password changed", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE );
    else {
    jPasswordField2.setText( " " );

    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog ( null,"Fail to change password.\n Please reenter the new password.","Fail", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);

  • Why does my startup disk need repairing?

    Twice in the last month I've had to repair my startup disk?  Any ideas why?

    Disk Utility repairs inconsistencies in the Disk Directory, which holds information like the name, size, and which actual blocks on the disk store the data. The Directory has a balanced tree structure for rapid searching.
    Occasionally the Directory gets minor errors in it. File length errors can occur when a new file is opened at the default minimum size, and its size is never adjusted to its actual size when closed. It is not a major problem.

  • Lost Startup Disk in Mac OS X Leopard

    Hi. I've been using leopard with windows vista for a long time now. I recently installed a software by paragon that would allow my mac to write to the ntfs partition. I noticed that after doing this (it might not have been directly caused by the software though), that the windows vista partition no longer showed up as an option under startup disk in leopard. I am however still able to boot to vista using the alt key when the mac starts up. I removed the paragon software and it didn't fix the problem.. I tired correcting the hard drive permissions and repairing the disk, but neither of them fixed the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the vista partition back under Startup Disk?
    Thanks
    John

    I don't think it was cause and effect or related. Could be but I don't recall seeing Vista in startup disk since Leopard.
    I have Paragon, but it seems to be buggy and slows down Finder. It also may have led to data corruption on Vista. The MacFuse etc NTFS is probably better method right now.
    Some users can't see Vista from OPTION/ALT on their systems but DO see Vista in the control panel Startup Disk.
    Booting from my Tiger 10.4.6 and Leopard DVD weren't able to see Vista partition as available in Utilities: Startup Disk so that pretty much rules out Paragon.
    I'm still looking for how. Luckily I can just pull my OS X drive or boot OS X from external drives anyway and leave Vista along with NTFS data drive and 3rd for page, cache, and other odds and ends.
    Vista w/ SP1 RC1 boots faster now. You might want to check it out.

  • Lost Leopard Disks, need to format!

    I am currently running the latest version of Leopard on my Mac, but it came with Panther. I need to format my hard drive but lost my leopard install disk. Is there anyway to get a new one without have to buy Leopard again?

    If you have (or can borrow) an external disk, you can "clone" your internal HD to it, via CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!, boot from it, then use Disk Utility to format the internal HD, then "clone" the external back to the internal.
    In theory, and if you have enough space, you could partition your internal HD temporarily, and do the clone, etc., to it. But that's also an easy way to make a mistake and wipe everything out!
    If you bought Leopard directly from Apple, they'll send you a replacement disc for a nominal fee. They may also do that if you have a receipt from another seller. Call AppleCare (I don't know if an Apple Store will do it, but that would be faster, if you're near one, so probably worth a call).
