Lost tags

Hi, I have upgraded from PSE 6.0 to 12.  My catalog was stored on an external hard drive, this became necessary to move the photos from the laptop as it was running out of memory.  I have managed to import the catalog from the external hard drive into PSE 12 on my new laptop.  I have started to reconnect the photos in organiser to their location on the external hard drive.  I have lost all my tags, other than re-doing this manually, is there any way these can be restored.  There are 4,000 photos to be tagged.  I would be grateful for any advice.

I am assuming what was stored on the external drive was your media files, which I'll call your 'library'. What the Organizer calls a 'catalog' is just that : a list of those media files with their properties : location on your drive(s), full path, exif data from the camera, your tagging and rating... The catalog is physically a folder. You find its location in the Help menu, System info section. It is built around a database and many auxiliary files. By default, your catalog is on your main internal drive, not in the external hard drive.
If you install PSE12 on the same computer, all you have to do is to use the catalog manager in the file menu of the PSE12 organizer and click on the convert button. A dialog will show you a list of catalogs to convert. The conversion process will create a new catalog in the PSE12 format and recover all the information in the older catalog. That's all.
Even if I don't think it's your case, it's good to know that your PSE6 catalog (folder) could have been on your external drive if you had moved it there voluntarily. The convert feature works the same in that situation, you only have to browse to the location of the catalog in the external drive.

  • Question on Lost Tags and Album Art

O.K., I mentioned in another thread that my iTunes library suddenly vanished, but I have been able to “Add file to library” to get everything back in there. Unfortunately, a lot of my album art and my tagging went back to the way it was before I modified it. If I open iTunes again and find nothing there (seems unfortunately to be common) and have to add the folder back in, is there anyway to do that with all the tags and album art in tact?

    Hi Ken,
If this is what I think you are referring to Ken, then don't worry, all is not lost.
This has happened to me once or twice in the past when either installing a new version of iTunes or when I have re-linked my iPod to my other computer.
One thing to check first though:
If you open iTunes and look in your Library and select any track you like (you don’t kneed to play it) and make sure that you have the 'Show or Hide Song Artwork' tab at the bottom left of iTunes (its the fourth one in) selected, can you see the Artwork for your track?
I know you are concerned about the artwork on your iPod, but this is important, if it is showing that’s great. If not, it might just be switched off. If you look at the grey bar that makes the top of the Artwork box that views the image, does it say 'Selected Song' or 'Now Playing'? If it is the latter, then with your mouse just click on it and your Artwork for that track should appear.
Makes sure this is the case for a few others, and if so, your artwork is not lost and can easily be put back on to your iPod.
Now Make sure your iPod is connected and showing in the Sources list on the right of iTunes.
Now go into the iPod options menu by going to the Edit menu and selecting the bottom option 'Preferences' and then opening the iPod tab. You will see an option to show your artwork on your iPod. Select this then click OK out of the Preferences and do an update.
iTunes will then say its updating your iPod, and when it has confirmed that your music is updated, it will then import all your artwork back into your iPod and it should then be present when you use your iPod.
Depending how many tracks you have on your iPod and in iTunes, this might take quite some time. For me last time without about 4 tracks on an AMD Athlone this took about 40 minutes.
I hope this is of help.

  • Lost tags on contact sheet in Library

I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 on a G4 and have upgraded to the latest LR 1.3.1
I have lost all my tags to let me know that I have keywords attached or that I have a 5 star filter
    on an image etc.
Do I need to dump LR and reinstall?
    Cheers Michael

Well, that's not a kosher way of installing on a Mac or anywhere else. Always quit the app. , trash it or move to a another location, then install. Why don't you now delete your LR .plist, install again after trashing the other versions?
    Good luck.

  • How can I restore lost tags after optimizing Elements 10?

Today, after moving some folders that were incorrectly located (based on year/month/date) back to their proper location, I optimized the catelog.  I then discovered that all my keyword tags were missing, but the image caption and description ("Notes") were not lost.  This amounts to approximately 10 years worth of images.
Why did did I lose all the keyword tags?  How can I recover them?  I have not closed or restarted the Elements Organizer, nor have I tried to Repair the catalogs for fear of overwriting something that cannot be corrected.  When should the repair catelog be used?
I am using a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP.  We have an external HD for backup that is supposed to be constantly syncing for backup.
Where do we go from here.

When I  last posted questions and answers about this problem with the computer at work, I as at home, but had left the computer on and did not close the program.  Today, when I returned to address the problem as suggested above, I discovered the program had closed. Since my staff knew not to close it, I suspect that an automatic update from Microsoft for Windows or some other automatic caused a restart of the system.
When I re-opened the PE 10 Organizer all the keyword tags were present.  This was in spite of have not had the opportunity to try any of the much appreciated suggestions.  I do not know how the proble become solved but am glad it did.
While the problem has been resolved, it would be helpful to understand about writing information to a file so that the keywords are saved to the image file, which would be a way to save that information in addition to have the information saved in the catalog itself.
By the way, exactly where is the catalog file saved?  Does it save with multiple versions in case a newer one gets corrupted or lost?
Thank those of you who stepped in to help me with this problem.

  • LR3 tags management system: lost tags on upgrade

I think there is something wrong with the tags management system.
After upgrading, the counters of my keywords have become incorrect.
I've lost the keywords associated to the jpeg files, but not the ones associates to the dng.
It's a tedious and annoying problem: I've tried to restore the situation, but I hope they could  find soon a solution to this bug.
    Anyone with the same problem?

How did you "upgrade" you image library to LR3? Did you upgrade the catalog or imported images directly?
    I've upgraded the catalog.
Also, note that image counter on hierarchical keywords in LR3 is different from LR2. parent keywords do no include counts from children, as in LR2.
Ok, but there are differences between the numbers of LR2 & LR3counters.
But why I've lost the tags of my jpg photos?

  • Lost tags in catalog conversion

In a catalog conversion from PsE 6 to PsE 10 all tags have lost their connections to the actual files: What have I done wrong and how can I solve this issue?

Which tags? Can you please explain a bit more?
Are the tags imported correctly? You mean any search you make with tags shows you empty results?
    Thanks

  • Lost tags, etc. when upgraded from Elements 2 to 6, and XP to Vista on new computer.

I was using Photoshop Album 2 on old XP computer. About a year ago, I got new computer with Vista and I installed Photoshop Elements 6 on it. I had copied files from old computer onto a flash drive, then from the flash drive to the new computer. The pictures came over fine, but I lost all of the tagging. Any way to get that back?

You need to find the PSA2 catalog file, and copy that as well. I believe the default name of the file is My Catalog.psa, but I don't know where it would have been stored. You could search your hard disk for *.psa (turning on the feature to search in hidden fodlers). Then, you will have to convert the catalog to PSE6 (File->Catalog->Convert).
Or, in PSA2, File->Backup Catalog and then in PSE6 File->Restore Catalog

  • Elements 6 to 8 - lost tags and ratings

I was running Elements 6 on my old computer with over 6000 photos tagged and rated.... the computer died and I had the hard drive removed. I installed Elements 8 (trial version) on my new computer and copied over all the photos from my old drive. The photos copied over but none of the tags or ratings did. No, I didn't do a backup from Elements (bad, I know). So, I have access to all the files on my old drive, is the tag information stored anywhere? I found the old catalog file but Elements 8 doesn't recognize it. Should I remove version 8 and install 6 instead? or????
    Please help!
    Thanks!!

You need to recover the entire PSE 6 catalog folder and then convert the catalog from PSE 6 format to PSE 8:
    1. Find the PSE 6 catalog folder on the old drive.  It contains a file "catalog.psedb"; see this tech note for likely locations:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402592.html
    2. Copy the entire folder to the same location on your new C drive (it's not essential that it be in the same location, but it reduces confusion).
    3. Start PSE 8, do File > Catalog > Convert, and select your old PSE 6 catalog to convert.  You should now have all your tags, albums, ratings, captions, dates/times, etc. in PSE 8.  If you run into any problems converting the catalog, see this FAQ:

  • Lost tags in move from pse5 to pse8. What did I do wrong?

I just installed pse8 and only about 25 of my total of 5000 pictures have their tags. The tags are listed under Imported Keyword Tags but there's nothing in them except a few pictures. The tags are not listed with their orignal category of people, places, events, etc. I really don't want to have to tag all 5000 again.  Any ideas of what I can do?

It sounds like that, rather than converting your PSE 5 catalog to PSE 8 format, you imported all your photos into a new PSE 8 catalog.
When you first launched PSE 8, it should have asked to convert your PSE 5 catalog, but if it didn't, you should do so manually.  See this tech note for details:

  • Organizer 10 to 11- Lost tags

I installed E 11 with the organzer. I then removed E 10. All of my photos were acquired by Org 11 but not one tag. As I have many photos, all previously tagged I am asking (pleading) for any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

It may be worth starting over with a new catalog.
    File >> Manage Catalogs
    Then click the New button
Choose a name e.g. MyCatalog2 and check the box to import free music and click OK
When the blank catalog opens (name shows bottom right) click again on File >> Manage Catalogs
    Then click the Convert button
Look in the list for your previous PSE10 catalog and select (highlight) it.
    Then click Convert.
Accept all keyword suggestions (select all) and wait for thumbnails to be generated. Good luck.

  • PSE 11: How to recover lost tags?

    PSE 11 on Win 8.1.
I recently upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8.1.
Then reinstalled PSE. Restored my catalog.
Last night I was looking for some photos and I noticed that I am missing a large number of my tags.
I have no People tags at all. Not even a People category. Which I am sure I had before.
I do have a set of tags called 'Imported Keyword Tags'. There are some People in there.
Any way to recover my tag information?
I do have access to my Win 7 PSE Catalog.
However, my Pictures folder structure isn't the same on Win 8 as it was on Win 7.
Thanks for any help or advice!

In Organizer click on the View menu and choose Show people in tags panel.

  • I lost my iphone the other day, and have tried find my iphone, but its offline. is there any way to put my specific serial number under a lost tag?

my iphone was lost on friday. Find iPhone on iclkoud says its offline. can i put my serial number of my iphone under a lost title or something so when someone tries to put a new plan on it or register it it will alert me??

If it is showing off line, either the battery is dead, the SIM has been removed or the iPhone has been restored. Report it to you carrier. Some offer blacklisting. You can also send a remote wipe to the phone via iCloud. There was also the option to send you an email if the phone is located when you were in Find My iPhone. Report it to law enforcement, change the passwords on all accounts that were on the device. Did you have a passcode on it?

  • Do not download songs from iTunes Match

    Hello everyone!
I use Ukrainian iTunes Store and signed on iTunes Match. Some of the songs from my library does not match with the music from the iTunes Store and therefore are loaded into the iCloud.
My problem is that the uploaded songs in the iCloud not downloaded to my device, there is the following error:
All devices are updated to the latest versions of iOS, everywhere including the Internet. I've already done all that is written here does not help. I wrote in support since January of this year, but nothing has changed.
I can download the song on:
    OS X 10.8.4, OS X 10.9 DP3;
    Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1;
I can not download songs on:
    iPod touch 4 with iOS 5.0.1, iOS 6.1.3;
    iPhone 4 with iOS 6.1.3, iOS 7 b3;
    iPad 4th with iOS 6.1.3, iOS 7 b3.

The problem arises with songs that have not lost tags buying from another store.
The songs were purchased in US iTunes Store, after being loaded into iTunes Math lost tags "Kind", "Copyright", "Profile".
Tag "Kind" was "Purchased audio AAC", after being loaded into iTunes Math became the "Audio file AAC".
Tag "Copyright" was, after being loaded into iTunes Math gone.
Tag "Purchased" was my first and last name, after being loaded into iTunes Math missing.
Songs that after being loaded into iTunes Math, do not lose these tags cause errors.
Errors occur in 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

  • Imposing a 12 page spread using Print Booklet...

For some reason, when I save this PostScript file it is only 6 pages instead of 12. Ive checked the file before pressing print and it all looks fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help will be so appreciated! Thanks!

    Now for some home truths
Imposing is not your job, it's the printers job - if your printer requires this then they are not a good printers as this is standard for printing companies.
You really should use File>Export and choose PDF (print) and select your settings from there and then use the Print Booklet feature from Acrobat    Print booklets | Acrobat, Reader
If this is for home printing, then it's fine - I'm not going to argue with your methods... But consider the option of Exporting to PDF and printing booklet from Acrobat as above.
Printing to PDF loses a lot of information required for professional printers - as it's passed through postscript which means it loses lots of smartness.
You lose transarencies, anything done in the fx panel, including blend modes.
    Colour management is lost
Tagged PDF for accessiblity is lost
And loads of other reasons why it's a bad idea to print to PDF.
