Lost Tap Drag on Trackpad

I've got a new MBP, 2.4 w/Leopard on it. After owning it for a week or two, I lost the ability to Tap-Drag items of any sort, using the tap feature on the trackpad: I can't tap and move sliders in Photoshop or tap and drag a window on the desktop, or anything in between. Period. However, if I use the trackpad BUTTON, it works fine, and all other features of the trackpad work fine. The preferences are set properly and I've tried unsetting and resetting them, etc. and I've checked forums and Googled all over the place but no ideas anywhere.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank

I have the same issue. Usually are full restart will bring back the functionality for about a week at most before I have to restart again. Haven't found a full fix. Anyone else? Does Apple monitor these forums?

  • Can't drag using trackpad

    So recently my trackpad on my 2009 macbook pro started acting up. I would constantly have to tighten the little scre in order for my clicks to be registered until my brother had the bright idea of super gluing the screw so i wouldnt move anymore. Bad idea. It wouldnt even register my clicks and was only able to tap. After an hour i was able to replace the screw and now it works even better than before, it registers my clicks perfectly an im able to double click with ease. Bad part is, i cant drag or highlight anything. What could be wrong?

    Perhaps the liquid superglue went further
    into the device and affected the function.
    Depending on what model it is, you may need to
    replace the trackpad, as it may be rather involved.
    There likely as a guide for it at ifixit.com.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Dragging with 3 fingers is horrid. What happened to double tap & drag?

    With the previos OS version I could swipe with 3 fingers to go back and forth on pages and applications and the finder, then if I want to drag something I could just double tap with one finger and drag an item. Easy and simple.
    With Mountain Lion, only way to drag with the trackpad is to hold down the physical trackpad button and drag which is kind of a pain to do, especially since my button on my 2010 Mackbook Pro doesn't seem to work as well as it should...or use 3 fingers to drag which doesn't give you as much room to navigate on the trackpad as with one finger.  The main problem with doing this is that I can't go back and forth on apps/finder/etc with the 3 finger swipe because if I turn on 3 finger drag it turns that option off.  So I'm stuck without going back and forth by swiping in apps which I always used and stuck with a more unfriendly 3 finger drag.
    What happened to the double tap and drag? It made things so much easier.  Or am I missing an option for that somewhere?  Why on earth would apple remove something like that?  It's a feature I expect to use both on Mac and Windows.

    Thanks so much to jeffyg3, I finally found the answer to this!
    System Preferences>Accessibility>Mouse & Trackpad>Trackpad Options.
    Enable dragging ON:  choose from menu "without drag lock".

  • Photoshop cs6 window too big for screen, lost the drag facility?

    I have lost the corner of the photoshop window below the dock so don't have access to the drag facility in the window corner. I have tried resizing the screen but this hasn't helped, any ideas welcome!!

    What OS are you running?  I would think it would have some function to allow you move windows that are larger then your display so you can move the windows so part of the window frame is on screen so you can then re-size the window.
    For example I just move my Chrome browser window sot the top of the window is behind the task bar.  I now can not move it necause I can mot position the mouse int the window header bar.  However I can position the mouse over the running Chrome icon in the task bar. Windows will show a preview of the running Chrome window or windows. If I right click on a preview window Window's will open a right click menu  I can click on the move item and them move the off screen window on to the display using the arrow keys or the mouse.

  • Macbook w/ Bootcamp(Windows XP) "Will the tapping click in trackpad work?

    Just wanted to know if the tapping click in the trackpad will work or not under windows xp.
    Thanks.

    I have not been able to tap the trackpad as a click in XP at all.
    I also don't think that the fn key was functional until I installed a little utility that allows one to press that and click the trackpad button to get a right click.
    I'd link you to that little thing but I can't for the life of me remember where I found it.

  • Significant delay when using the "tap to click" trackpad function

    (I accidently post this in the wrong forum -- for the old MBP -- so this is a repost)
    Hello everyone! I bought a 2.4 Ghz unibody MBP like 3 weeks ago. I had an issue and they replaced the computer with a new one at the store. Today is the first day of using the new laptop. They switched out the ram upgrade and the hard drive.
    The issue seems to be that when using the tap to click function on the trackpad, there is a relatively significant delay (at least for a click). With the regular mouse button the delay isn't there. Such as if I'm clicking on the finder or the file tab, there's a bit of a delay before they pop up, compared to instantaniously with the mouse button. When using the trackpad for regular types of tasks, there is a bit of a delay sometimes too. Such as I'll be moving the mouse across the screen and it will stop.
    Please help me out. If I could solve it without going back to the Apple store that would be great. Thanks everyone in advance.

    Update: I think the 1/2 second delay is too long of an estimate, but the delay is significant enough to make me notice something has to be wrong. My previous MBP had no delay.
    When moving the mouse around, I'm not sure if it's a MBP issue, but occasionally the mouse seems to "get stuck" on the screen and I have to begin moving my finger again on the trackpad. This happened on the first MBP too.

  • Tap to click (trackpad)

    hi everyone, I've searched this issue across forums and quite a lot of people using different apple machines seem to have the same problem about the tap to click. My macbook pro 15 is about a month old, about 2-3 days ago, I realised that the tap to click stopped working occasionally, after a few tries, it did work again but it's very annoying, so I now switched back to the mouse click. The drawback of using mouse click is that it's very noisy if you are in library or at a quiet office. Is there anyone having the same problem? Is it a hardware (trackpad) issue or software (OSX) issue? Thanks!

    Thanks for your answer. No, i never used a bluetooth magic mouse. The guest account so far works ok, so what's the problem with my admin account? If the guest account is being dodgy later, what does it mean then? Thanks.

  • Tap to click trackpad function comes and goes?!

    Tap to click and two finger tap for left click mysteriously come and go. When they go I can uncheck and recheck the appropriate box in system prefs and it works again. Sometimes it starts working again all by itself. Anybody else? Virus?

    Update: I think the 1/2 second delay is too long of an estimate, but the delay is significant enough to make me notice something has to be wrong. My previous MBP had no delay.

  • Delay to release after double tap dragging

    Im experiencing an annoying delay after double tapping and dragging or scrolling. I disabled the lock feature where you have to tap once to release the lock but it still remains locked for a short period after I double tap and drag or scroll. For example if i double tap and drag a window then remove my finger from the pad, I have to wait a second before touching the pad again otherwise it will drag the window again. Any way around this ?

    Let me know if you solve this - it's really annoying. I'd like to decide for myself when I've let go!

  • Brush Tool Won't Drag on Trackpad Only

    I have an issue with my photoshop paint brush tool. As soon as I take my laptop off my desk and unplug my tablet, Photoshop won't let me drag the brush. I click and hold down on the trackpad and the brush won't move anywhere it just gives me one circle with the basic brush and then just stops so that I have to repeatedly click. None of my settings have changed from what they were when I had my tablet plugged in. I'm sure it's worked before as I haven't always had a Wacom tablet. Any ideas? Thank you!

    Reset the brushes by clicking on the cog icon top right corner of Brush panel.  Select any of the first four options in the panel.
    If still in trouble, reset Photoshop Preferences (Hold down Shift Alt Ctrl - Shift Opt Cmd - right after starting Photoshop.
    Tell us what operating system?
    Are you using a tablet, and which one?
    What is the image mode?  Change to RGB if not already so set.

  • Safari Bookmarks Lost via Drag and Drop to Finder

    All of my most important bookmarks vanished without a trace after I dragged and dropped their folder from the "Show All Bookmarks" screen in Safari 4.0.3 to a Shared Network Drive in the Finder sidebar. The Shared Network Drive was not connected at the time (I hadn't realized), but I received no error message that the bookmarks could not be copied to the destination--the folder and its contents were simply gone. I've scoured all drives for the bookmark files with no luck, and I confirmed that dragging other files (not bookmarks) to the disconnected Shared Network Drive gives an error message and no change to file locations.
    Admittedly, this particular situation is somewhat rare, but it seems like a kind of shoddy black hole in the software: no alerts, no trash bin, no bookmark files to be found.
    Obviously this is a perfect example of why one should backup bookmarks via Time Machine, MobileMe, etc.--but I really just want to understand the problem, and to see it resolved if necessary. Any ideas? Similar experiences?
    Thanks for reading!

    Thanks very much for your reply, Carolyn.
    I tried a Spotlight search as you suggested, but found no file called "Safari Bookmarks.html," and nothing with a similar name. Would that be some kind of master log of my Safari bookmarks?
    I'm looking everywhere for an alternate record of those web addresses (router, cache, cookies, Google), but unfortunately I empty my Safari history regularly and nothing else has panned out so far.

  • Lost my drag and drop

    Hi there.  I updated to itunes 10.5 on Lion ysterday, and I seem to have hit a snag.  I can drag and drop everywhere EXCEPT in itunes, which is very irritating (I sort of want to throw my computer out the window).  I have logged out and in, restarted, and repaired disk permissions, which I saw suggested before, but to no effect.  This seems to be an itunes only problem.
    Any suggestions?

    An update: Realized that my Wacom tablet may be to blame, when I saw that suggested as a fix.  I updated the driver, still no luck.
    I'm unable to try it w/o the tablet, as my Magic Mouse is on the fritz again.

  • Focus Lost when Dragging JInternalFrame?

    Hopefully this should be a simple question:
    I have a JInternalFrame with numerous simple components like JTextFields.
    When I click the title bar, or click and drag the Frame, the JTextField that had focus prior to that clicking loses focus. Focus goes to the Main Frame window, and if I use setFocusable(false) on the main frame, focus goes nowhere (getFocusOwner() == null).
    I want focus to remain in the same component (the JTextField) when clicking on the title bar and when dragging. How do I do this?
    I'm using jdk1.4.1_01. Thanks for the help!
    Joel

    I HAVE AN ANSWER!!!
    First of all, when you click on the JInternalFrame's title bar, I was losing focus. To fix this, I added a mouse listener to the title bar. I then reset my focus on a mouse clicked event. To find the title bar, I did the following:
    private BasicInternalFrameTitlePane findTitleBar()
        Component[] comps = this.getComponents();
        for (int i = 0; i < comps.length; i++)
             if (comps[i] instanceof BasicInternalFrameTitlePane)
                  return (BasicInternalFrameTitlePane)comps;
    return null;
    If the findTitleBar method doesn't return a null, add a mouse listener to it. In the mouseClicked method, reset your focus. I found by using the SwingUtilities.invokeLater, it worked better. So my mouseClicked method looked like:
    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent  e)
       initFocusFor(getFocusComponent());
    public void initFocusFor(final JComponent comp )
       if (comp == null)
          return;
       SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable()
         public void run()
            comp.setRequestFocusEnabled( true );
            comp.requestFocusInWindow();
    }Now, for the resizing and dragging.... I was losing my focus on that as well. I believe my desktop manager was getting the focus on resizing and dragging. So, on my subclassed desktop manager, I just added logic to reset my focus on the JInternalFrame on the following methods: endDraggingFrame and endResizingFrame.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Audio lost from dragging MPG file?

    I have some MPG files, 10 second or less clips from our Sony digital camera, and I can't figure out how to get the sound into iMovie. All I want to do is rotate the mpg 90 degrees, and I figured out how to do that with Simple Rotate from cfx, but now there is no audio. If I go to "Import" from iMovie, the raw MPG files are dimmed out so I can't open them. If I drag and drop the clips, they are there but there is no sound. And if I try "Extract Audio" iMovie crashes. This is iMovie 3.0.3 on a laptop running 10.4.5
    G4 PB 15 Alu, G3 PB Pismo, G4 AGP, PB Duo 230...   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Sean - welcome to the forum!
    MPG files have to be converted to DV for the audio to be heard in iMovie. iMovie is designed for that format, not MPEG. Have a look here:

  • Trackpad no longer drags after Security Update 2015-003

    I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacPro 2010. After I installed Security Update 2015-003, I noticed my Apple Trackpad can no longer drag. Here are the symptoms:
    I CAN move the cursor around the screen using the trackpad.
    I CAN click, and appropriate responses occur.
    If I click on a menu in the menu bar, then move (hovering) the cursor with the trackpad down the list of menu choices, they DO NOT highlight. I can click on one, and it WILL BE performed, but a submenu would NOT pop out. I CANNOT drag down the menu and to the side to bring out a submenu using the trackpad.
    I CANNOT move a window or other object by tap-dragging on trackpad (double tap, holding the second tap to turn it into a drag)
    I CANNOT select a phrase or paragraph by highlighting it by tap-dragging on trackpad
    Hover behaviors on web pages DO NOT occur (so links that should highlight, menus on a web page that would normally drop down on their own, do not do so) if cursor is moved by trackpad.
    Tool tips or other hover behaviors in web pages or outside of web browser DO NOT occur if cursor is moved by trackpad.
    All behaviors are NORMAL if I use my Wacom tablet stylus to perform the same cursor move.
    So, if I move the cursor over something using the trackpad, nothing happens. If I then move the cursor over the same thing using the Wacom stylus, highlighting or other hover behavior occurs.
    Yes, I've changed the batteries in my trackpad, and it works fine otherwise. It does NOT skip or exhibit symptoms of a poor connection. Three-finger and four-finger drags to go to Previous Page in Safari, or switch desktops, DO work.
    Only single-finger dragging is gone.
    This issue occurs on my 2010 MacPro running 10.10.2, but does not occur on my 2009 MacPro running 10.10.2 at work.
    Both have the Security Update 2015-003 installed, as well as all other current AppStore updates.
    So Security Update 2015-003 would not seem to be the issue, but that was the thing which changed on my OS immediately prior to the beginning of the undesired behavior.
    There is no setting in the Trackpad control panel that has to do with single-finger dragging. I've also checked the Mouse control panel and the double-click speed is the same between the two computers (the one where Trackpad drag works, the other where Trackpad does not work).

    SOLVED:
    This issue went away by itself after a reboot for a software installation.
