Lost the streaming ability
Had all working well, watching instant streamed material on the wireless connection to apple tv. Did the upgrade which worked wonderfully UNTIL I inadvertently somehow resynced and lost all content on the apple tv. Since that time syncing is impossibly slow and I cannot stream anything...not from the primary computer, not from two others which worked for streaming earlier. Music stutters, videos don't show up at all...a 3 minute video was trying to load before it would play (I think cache or whatever works with streaming is gone) and after 8 minutes had not finished. I cannot be sure but don't think it is actually syncing as the same message about the video being synced has been on the screen for several hours, no sign of progression.
Any chance it has to do with a software update for the Mac? Anyone know anything to try? Does anyone know if apple knows something we don't?
I shall answer my own question about why streaming went away and everything slowed down. I moved the apple tv downstairs to where an ethernet connection is available and bingo! it is syncing like lightning and streams just fine. This does not clearly answer why it changed, as it worked very well until a few days ago, but we are going on the assumption that our wireless router may be at fault, also trying to find a hidden way to take ethernet up the stairs.
Thank you for all who answered/looked at the questions. I do still wonder if an update may have done something that cut down the wireless...the signal strength measured the same as it was originally...but anyway I shall redownload the update.
I have just about filled the 32 gig capacity in less than two hours using the ethernet connection, as opposed to 12 photos in over an hour.

Hi. Since I downloaded IOS7 I have lost the streaming "triangle" on my iPhone4S and iPad (4th generation). It's still on my original 1st Generation iPad (I haven't updated the IOS) hence I'm certain the problem relates to IOS7. How can I fix this?
Doody1955If you share an Apple ID, both of your phone numbers should be linked to that ID. You should be able to use your phone number as well. My wife, my daughter and I all share an Apple ID for purchases, and we each text from our iOS devices using our own iPhone numbers.
When iOS 6 came out, you were able to link the phone number with your Apple ID to use for Messages and FaceTime. You will need to sign out of messages on all devices and then start the process all over again.

How to extend the jmf by a codec, with streaming ability
hi people, im sitting on a (in my eyes) realy hard challenge..
i have to build in a additional codec into the jmf and stream a file with this new built in codec ..
tryed to combine jmf with gsteamer fmj and many more but most of the time it simply dont work at all or if it works the solution lost its streaming ability.. so playing only..
any one around who could help me with this problem?

As for the codec...here's the 411 on all of that crap.
To develope a codec, you'll need to look at the following example:

That example is what's known as a "pass-through" codec...it doesn't modify the data, it just passes the input into the output without modification.
A normal codec would take data of a specific format and convert it into a new format (obviously). All of the work to do that should occur in the process function.
You can specify what input formats your codec is able to handle by modifying the "getSupportedInputFormats" function. You can specify what output formats your codec is able to handle by modifying the "getSupportedOutputFormats" function. I'd recommend that you set the input formats to just take in RGB, and the output formats to just be whatever your format is.
Once you have all of the code written to process from RGB to your new format, you can officially use your codec to transcode from RGB to YNF (your new format). You'll actually need to write 3 more codecs at this point...
(1) You need to write one to take YNF and return RGB. (decode it)
(2) You need to write one to take YNF and return YNF_RTP. This could probably just be a pass-through codec, but, I'm not 100% sure as I've never written an RTP codec personally...but it'll need to be something that a Processor would see as a content type of RAW_RTP...
(3) You need to write one to take YNG_RTP and return YNF.
Once you have all of those working, you'll then need to define a custom packetizer/depacketizer for your new RTP format.

This doesn't have to do anything more advanced than break the stream into chunks. The example code will probably work fine, with just the modifications necessary to make it work with your RTP format rather than the one the example uses (linear PCM wav files, as I recall)...
To summarize, you need to write the following peices of code to completely add a new format.
Encoding Codec, RTP-Encoding Codec, RTP-Decoding Codec, Decoding Codec, Packetizer, Depacketizer...

Also, as a sidenote, the RTP Encoding and Decoding Codecs might not be necessary. I've never done this, I don't know anyone who has, so this is mostly educated guesswork...
Actually, if your packetizer says it'll take in the non-RTP version and packetize it, then you shouldn't actually
need the RTP codecs ;-) -
Lost the ability to spell check on all applications
I recently updated my system to Mavericks 10.9.4, since then I have lost the ability for spell checking in all applications. Check spelling while I type is not working and I am unable to check spelling manually through the app menus. Skype, Facebook, Notepad.. you name it, spelling correction functionality is no bueno. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have tried changing languages, booting in safe mode... the only thing I did notice was that the box to check "correct spelling automatically" won't stay checked, but clearly something else is wrong.
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

I use an Epson Stylus Office BX320FW printer with my IMac. Since upgrading OSX, I have lost the ability to print and scan. I have downloaded printer drivers from both Epson and Apple. I am using the printer in wifi mode but can not get it print or scan. How do I uninstall the Epson software and start all over again?
nickel_man_65Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

The sheet I am working on has lost the ability for me to scroll to the first few columns. I can't see the columns A & B but if I cut and paste the table to a new sheet, the columns I am missing will travel to the new sheet. I have charts and other stuff related the the original table so I need to figure out why I can only see from column C forward. I tried to "UNHIDE" the columns but the function doesn't seem to recognise that there are columns missing. Has this happened to others and how did you fix it?
I've seen it happen before, or at least it sounds something like what I've seen before. The table somehow gets into the margins of the page and the app doesn't know how to deal with it. Go into Print View and try moving the table away from the left side ofthe page. You might have to change content size or resize the table to get it to correct (then put you can put them back the way you like).

I usually use FF 3.6 version to download data from my company intranet. With old FF version I can access the intranet easily. But when I upgrade to the FF 4, I lost the ability to customize the variable data I want to collect. It kind of stuck. Usually when I right click I have option what to do. with the new version my option is none. nothing change. It's frustrating. So now, I go back to previous version. You said previous version is vulnerable to phishing or virus or something but still it user friendly for me to access my company data. Please fix that bug and I'll upgrade to the newest version.
I want to add my progress about this problem. I find this problem in IE 9, but it has compatibility view, though not too perfect but quite helpful. Whereas FF 4, from article in support, said it doesn't have one. So, I beg you FF team to accommodate us who still deal with old web design so we still can use this FF 4. Please..please..please. I still believe Firefox is the best browser and I hope FF team also responsive about current problem. I think I don't have any option, but to downgrade FF to 3.6 until someone tell me how to deal with this kind of problem. Thanks.

I've been taking screen shots for years and opening them from my desktiop. Suddenly, today, I've lost the ability to open them. I can right click on the picture and do "quicklook", but that's it. They just won't open.
Similary, if I scan an image and save it as a PDF file in pictures, I'm suddenly not able to open it either!
Why?Move the com.apple.screencapture.plist file out of /username/Library/Preferences/ to the Desktop, log out and back in, and try again.
BTW, use the default 10 point setting for text. Your choice just wastes screen space. -

It's not a huge deal, but people with iPhones can't text me back unless they try to re-send after finding out that their message wasn't delivered.

I lost the ability to use wifi after the 8.02 update. Is there a way to fix this? I've already tried resetting network. Turned the phone off and on. Nothing is working and now I have to run on just data.

So sorry to hear about the trouble with Wi-Fi! Let's get that working the way it should. Could you provide us some more details regarding where this breakdown occurs? Are you having trouble with turning Wi-Fi on or connecting to your Wi-Fi? Are other devices connecting to your Wi-Fi without issue?

Itunes seems to have lost the ability to play purchased video
Before posting here, I've searched all over the place for a solution to this problem, I found many people who have very similar issues, some solved them, but their solutions haven't worked for me, others with problems closer to how'd I'd describe mine have yet to find a solution
My problem is, when I try to watch purchased tv shows, the video playback is horribly choppy. Most of the time it's like watching a screenshot with audio. (audio plays fine). I've tried all the suggestions of disabling direct3d etc to no avail. I have a brand new pretty beefy system that should have no problems running the video at all. The oddest thing though, is that early today the video worked fine, which confirms that it's not hardware insufficiency. After downloading 2 shows this evening, I watched them with perfectly smooth playback. After getting a few more tv shows, itunes suddenly lost the ability to playback smoothly, even after closing, opening itunes again, rebooting my computer, none of it helped. The only thing left to try which I will try if nobody has any idea what the problem might be, is to completly uninstall itunes and try reinstalling it again, since earlier the playback was fine.
Has anyone else encountered anything at all like this? Nothing about my system has changed since earlier this evening, I already had the most recent version of itunes when everything was working fine. No display drivers or any of that has changed. It was only a matter of a few minutes between smooth playback and where my itunes perminatly lost the ability to playback video properly.
I appoligize for the long winded message but I wanted to cover all the bases so people don't end up suggesting stuff I've already tried. The only clue that might be related is during download of one of the shows Windows Vista popped up the message that itunes had stop working, and I could try and find a solution or close the application. I just closed itunes and opened it again. Everything seemed fine but it may be (not positive though) that it was immediatly after that that the video nolonger played properly.Post in the iTunes Windows section. This is the iTunes Mac area.
Make sure that your Quicktime is up to date.

After I installed 10.6.8, my HP Officejet 7310 lost the ability to print 2-sided. I installed the latest HP drivers for Snow Leopard, the 2-sided option shows up in the print window but is turned off and greyed out. Also the scan function won't let me scan at any density greater than 150 dpi. I have talked to Applecare and to HP tech support and been told "too bad." Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to import certain image files in CS5
