Lost USB drives: Seagate Momentus XT 750GB SSHD upgrade x120e

I upgraded my x120e to a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB SSHD   (I had an ailing WD drive).
The boot and hop up were amazing, but I have a few minor problems. Running WIN7 64bit Home Ed. Prem.
I did an Acronis USB drive clone (via WD and Seagate DiscWiz versions), and amazingly I recovered the whole C: drive. Q:drive Recov partition is present too.
But I have a few problems.......
1. USB drives, flash memory are not recognized as drives.
In Device Manager: USB devices looks normal.
All mass storage devices    via      USB have problem flag.
2. apsx64.sys driver is missing, or not usable. This related to Lenovo crash detection protection of HDs
3. System_drv missing in My Computer.
Thanks for any advice, I am finally beginning to enjoy the x120e a bit.

The problem is Acronis: http://kb.acronis.com/content/30338 You will also see the error in the EVENT VIEWER: ADMIN LOG: kernal error: snapman.exe failed to load The driver \Driver\snapman failed to load for the device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_Generic-&Prod_Multi-Card&Rev_1.00\00000. You need to uninstall either the Seagate or WD versions of Acronis True Image. Now the USB drives are recognized again!

  • Is the T420s ultrabay compatible with the seagate momentus XT 750gb hard drive?

    Hello,
I have a T420s with a 160gb SSD. last friday i got the BAD_CTX error for the SSD drive and lost all of my data. i called lenovo support (still under warrenty) and they told me the drive was fine. i was shocked! never the less, i found a way to get the drive to work again, but this "fix" will delete all the data on the drive.
i want to use the ultrabay to add a new HDD to backup my SSD on and would like to know if the these three products are compatible.
T420s using the ultrabay with a seagate momentus XT 750gb hard drive?
Thanks in advance for your help...

I'm 99.9% certain that the answer is yes. I have a 500GB HDD in my UltraBay with no problems.

  • USB drives not accesible after Mountain lion upgrade

I have a late 2009 iMac and just upgraded to Mountain lion. Win 7 on bootcamp runs fine, but I cannot seem to access USB external hard drives or thumb drives. Any thoughts? The keyboard and mouse work fine, and the drives are visible from the Mac side.

    1. Can you check what they are on the OSX side, as they show up correctly on that side? If they are HFS+, then the BC drivers are not installed correctly.
    2. Can you take a look at Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support and find the correct drivers and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers?
    3. Can you see your OSX volume from the Windows side?

  • Vibrations on toshiba nb505-n508bl w/ Seagate Momentus HDD

Hi all, I recently installed a new Seagate Momentus (ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive) on a Toshiba nb505-n508bl. . . . Even with the flimsy aluminum factory HDD "caddy," it still vibrates/buzzes a bit too much for my comfort. The rubber grip fittings on the bottom of the netbook are in good condition, so that's not the issue. And while vibrations are clearly reduced when on a stable, perfectly flat surface, they still occur on occasion. Also, the netbook seems vibration sensitive/susceptible to even the slightest pressure on the keyboard surface above/nearer the HDD (the mouse buttons just to the left of the HDD or the arrow keys that are directly above the HDD). Of course I have also run several HDD scans with the appropriate utilities (both with Windows and Seagate disk scanning utilities), and the drive always scans perfectly clean and error free. So my first questions:
    1. Do any hardcore Toshiba netbook users know of a more solid/stable non-toshiba HDD caddy to better secure a higher speed HDD than the flimsy aluminum caddy?
    2. Does anyone know if the Toshiba nb505-n508bl simply is not made to handle 7200 RPM (b/c it originally came with only a 5400 RPM HDD)?
    Thank you!

    Hi, moscatomg1:
I am sorry about your present condition (sympathy, first). However, please be informed that this issue was an initial reason I disliked my Toshiba Notebook computer. It has one additional design "problem" and that is not being able to set the viewing angle of the built-in monitor to my satisfaction (unless it is on a high rigid surface). Nevertheless, the built in Toshiba utility, Disc Monitor, was problematic because if it was enabled it would always be triggered by "slight" vibrations or movements. Moreover, it has a poor heat dissipating system and disturbs me if placed into sleep mode for long periods because of this. I feel it I a fire hazard if placed in the wrong environment. Happily, I really like it otherwise. If not for those deficiencies it would be PERFECT, in my way of thinking.
So, I think your solution is not good, Mos. Aluminum heats up quite readily. Also, you are probably using Styrofoam "cushions" which are flammable unless treated. I am sorry I wasn't of any help and I can't think of what is causing those sounds other than the R/W heads moving across the hard disk surface. This indicates poor construction too.
    Good luck!

    Good luck!

  • Battery life and Momentus XT 750gb SSD 8gb

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 with the usual HDD 320GB and I'm thinking to change it for a Seagate Momentus XT 750gb SSD 8gb.
My concern is about the battery life, if it is affected by this speed improvement (from 5400 to 7200 rpm).
The user Csound1 has this one installed in his MBP (his forum profile says that), so, perhaps he can answer with accurate information to the question. It would be very much appreciated. And, of course, anyone more with the same situation.
Thanks in advance for comment and help about.
    Best regards,

I have (as you said) used these drives (500G and 750G) in several machines. I have not seen any change in battery power usage or heat generated. They are sometimes quieter than the original drive they replaced, and occasionally not.
Seagate have announced a 3rd generation drive, 1TB, not sure if it is on sale yet.

  • Can't access the Time Capsule Drive and attached USB drive

I bought the 3 TB Time capsule a couple of months ago.  I am using it as my wireless router for a cable modem and have attached a USB drive (seagate) to the TC.  I use the TC drive for time machine only.  It worked well at first, for about the first month.   Now I have trouble accessing the TC drive as well as the USB drive.  The router function works perfectly fine.  The drives show up in the Finder under Shared but  cannot connect.  Time machine does not back up because it says the back up drive is not available.  In disc utility, the base station shows with the correct name, but I can't access it. It asks for a pasword but does not respond, so I cannot reboot it from my computer.
If I restart the TC (power off and on), it works fine, I can access both drives.  However, this problem recurs, sometimes within a few days.  I have also noticed, which may be related, that when I enter time machine (when everything is working fine), some of the back-ups are blank.  There is a date and time but no actual back-up.  Not sure if this is related.
I'm runing Mavericks 10.9.2 on an older MacBook, 15" late 2008 with 2.4 ghz dual core.

    Hi Bob,
I updated Mavericks but still had the same problem, so I did a hard reset on TC, although I held the button for over 5 seconds and the amber light was flashing rapidly, it acted like a soft reset.  Still no change so I rebooted my laptop.   Still had an excellent internet connection but in AirPort utility, the TC is grayed out and says device not found.  Light on TC was amber.  So, I tried a hard reset again, but the light wouldn't flash at all.  Unplugged it and after pluggin back in, acted like a hard reset.  I restored previous settings and it is fine for the moment.  Will keep you posted if it recurs.  Hopefully it will not with updated Mavericks, but I get the feeling the problem may be the TC.

  • USB drive doesn't appear

Often when I plug my USB drive (Seagate) into the USB port, it does not appear in the Finder. I have to reboot the computer for it to appear. Is there a reason why this happens, and is there anything I can do besides reboot?
    thanks

  • Attaching USB drive causes EX4 to become unresponsive.

Hello, I have tried to setup a usb to nas backup a few times and keep having the same problem. Upon attaching the 4TB usb drive (usb 3.0) to the back of the EX4 the NAS becomes unresponsive. I can no longer access it from the dashboard or the my cloud app on a mobile device. The app says it is offline. The ex4 is on but no drives are spinning. The usb drive is spinning however.
Once, I was able to see the EX4 and the attached USB drive in my file explorer. It showed the USB drive as a share. It said something like "Share 2_1." However the internal folders were not visible. Then the EX4 froze and went unresponsive - which caused me to try and manually shut it down. It did not power down and after making sure no data was being transferred I had to pull the power (as recommended on this forum).
Once I was able to get as far as setup up a USB to NAS backup on the dashboard. I set up the source and destination folders, etc. upon saving the job the EX4 is inaccessible, while the USB drive spins.
What's going on? Is it taking a long time to index the attached drive? Is it not compatible with the USB drive (seagate 4tb external NTFS USB 3.0)?
Any insight or advice would be great. Thanks!

By default the EX4 will scan the attached USB share for media.  This process takes all the CPU of the EX4 for long periods of time, and can also lead tot he creation of numerous metadata directories in your attached drive.  You should turn this off. In addition, if you use the USB drive for backups, the DEFAULT option for the EX4 is to commence backups when the drive is connected.  This setting can be turned off in the GUI setup for the backup jobs. In addiiton, in my experience, NTFS drives take more overhead than EXT formatted drives.

  • Macbook pro i5 2.4 + seagate momentus XT 500gb system freezes randomly

    Hello all,
I have a problem with my Macbook pro i5 2.4GHz 4Gb Ram with upgraded hard drive Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb (with latest freeware update).
My issue began like 2 day of use of my new macbook pro (which dates a month ago). Since then, I re-installed my system like 5 times due to my problem.
When installing for the first time (clean install) the Mac OS X together with iLife, Office 2008 and Aperture, to my new HD there was no problems. The first time my OS freezed was after restoring my Aperture Library (some 16Gb)from an external HD to my new drive. The symptoms were that all my running applications stopped responding (safari, mail, aperture even finder) and dock dissappeared.
After hard reboot the system loads but the dock is missing, no application can be accessed.
I tried reparing permissions with Mac OS install disk without success.
New system install repares the problem. After that the issue appears randomly while using finder after external disk refused to eject or while copying some datas, or simply while using some other application like typing a document in MS word.
Thank you in advance for all your advices / solutions.

Seems that the new firmware update for Macbook pro 2010 version 1.9 resolved my problem.

If you need to extract the drive's content you can remove it and install it in a $10 USB enclosure. It will be readable by any recent Mac.

    Yes...at least I thought it was....I have 10.6.8.
That's the whole issue. I want to run/install photoshop elements but I have to have 10.8. for that. So...be fore I install an upgrade (Yosemite is getting BAD press) I thought I'd check my back up...it's not there...I have the seagate plugged in and the usb into the back of the mac...when I try to turn the time machine "ON" it says airport device not found not ....
By the way...I REALLY appreciate the help here....

  • Seagate USB drives appear on desktop but can't be read or ejected.

I have two different Seagate 1TB USB drives, both formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utilities that work fine on my early 2013 MacBook Pro running Mavericks but cause various issues on my late 2013 Mac Pro (also running Mavericks). The drives will show up when connected to the Mac Pro, but when I try to view the contents of the drives, nothing appears and I cannot eject them. Sometimes, I end up with a spinning beach ball in the Finder. I have run the hardware test on my Mac Pro and no issues were detected. I have also Verified and Repaired the disks using Disk Utilities on my Macbook Pro and no issues were detected for those operations.
I'm figuring this must be some sort of driver issue, but I don't understand why the drives operate fine when connected to my Macbook Pro running Mavericks but not the Mac Pro running Mavericks. I didn't install any drivers on the Macbook Pro to get them to work, they just work.

    >> also Verified and Repaired the disks using Disk Utilities on MacBook Pro
... and why would they need to be repaired on the nMP:?
It sounds like there is an issue with the port you use and assume you used the same cable.
Q: Does the case have its own power brick adapter or one of those cheaper and smaller bus powered?
Seagate does have a Thunderbolt docking station which is very nice and convenient, and of course will cost more than a USB3
Generally I recommend avoiding vendor's cases.
Seems like we need more information  about the drives and case and interface etc.

  • What is currently the best hard drive upgrade for 2009 white mac book? (within reason! ;-) ) looking at Seagate momentus 7200 320gb and momentus XT

hello people of the Apple community.
There seems to be a lot of threads regarding some similar issues. Some of the questions seem a few years old so I thought I'd post a new thread. I have a white 2009 macbook and I need to upgrade the hard drive to I think 320gb - cant afford any more. Im looking for a good 320gb fast-ish drive.
A few questions arise as Im not 100% clued up with the terminology
    1) Is sata 300 of any benefit? how do i check what mine currently uses?
    2) Cache size and spindle speed: is 16mb the standard? and does 7200rpm drain the battery quicker? what do most people go for?
    3) Pleeeese someone recommend something good! The more you look the more numbers and options come available!
Im looking at the Seagate momentus range .. Is the XT range of any benefit on my machine?
    Thanks, Jeremy

If I may, it seems uneconomical to spend any amount of $$ to upgrade a "long in the tooth" Macbook. Instead, why not a huge (say 1 TB) external drive for $100.00? And move some of the files from the internal to the external. It will require some "house keeping" to decide what files go where, but this could free up a lot space on the internal, and therefore boost performance as well. And when the long in the tooth finally dies, you will still have the external.

  • Lost Connection to USB Drive

I have a 1TB USB Drive on my new airport extreme. it work very good ... but .... no each day. some day (after 1 up to 3 days) my airport lost the connection to the usb drive. i must restart the drive (cut power) and restart the airport extreme (cut power).
is this an official bug ? what can i do ?

I am having the exact same problem with a 1TB Glyph 062 drive. it seems like after a day or so the Airport just loses the drive, forcing me to power cycle the drive or disconnect/reconnect the usb cable, which immediately fixes the problem. I'm running the latest firmware on my airport (7.4.1). Is there some setting that i'm not aware of?
