Lost User Icon on Win 7 Welcome screen

My welcome screen changed on it's own.  We have two users accounts which have been displayed on the welcome screen for the past year.  Now only the last user account and a blank "other user".  Neither of the accounts require passwords.
How can I re-establish the welcome screen to display both user accounts?
FYI: I noticed the problem shortly after I upgraded my Skype account.

Hi,
First of all, we could try system restore to get back to a previous time point which everything worked fine.
If this issue persists, please try the following steps to check how it works:
Note: before perform this action, please
Back up the registry firstly.
1.
Type
regedit in start search box, press Entre and YES.
2.
Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList].
3.
You will probably want to right-click on “ProfileList” and click export to save the entire subtree in case something goes wrong.
4.
You will find several subfolders or “keys” named something like “S-1-x-xx…”, open them one at the time.
5.
Each should contain at least the three value-sets, “Flags”, “ProfileImagePath” and “State”, some will contain more.
1)
Look at the end of ProfileImagePath for the name of the user represented by the key.
2)
You will usually have one for each user on the system, and one for each of the three system entries ‘systemprofile’, ‘LocalService’ and ’NetworkService’.
6.
Delete any key (i.e. the whole “S-1-x-xx” folder) that does not contain at least those three values.
7.
Reboot to check the result.

  • Disable Win 7 Welcome Screen

    Hi all,
Looking to disable the Welcome screen on a WORKGROUP Win 7 Pro 64 SP1 such that it acts just like one would if joined to a Domain: Shows last user that logged in, but does not show all other accounts on the PC.  You gotta hit the Switch User -> Other
User buttons then type the account name in.
I know this has been asked before, but the threads I see on it have the answer marked as "not possible".  I would think if this was impossible to do, then joining to a Domain shouldn't work like this, yes?  There must be registry settings
somewhere that flip to allow it.

    Hi Fots,
I think I misunderstood something in the previous reply, I did more test and find the registry trick, please modify as below:
Please open registry editor, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
under "ProfileList", create a new key ".default", then restart your pc, then you will achieve your goal.
After choosing switch user, you will be prompted a screen like this

  • Lost email icon on my home page screen

I do I get my email icon back on my homescreen

You can't delete it, you can move it. Look on every screen and in any folders. Check restrictions. As a last resort, go to settings, reset, reset home screen layout.

I've always set this in the OCT/MSP, but there are plenty of threads and blogs about doing the same in GPO.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Stalls at Welcome Screen

When you open Dreamweaver CS4, the Welcome Screen never show up.  You can still work in it, but I have a user who really likes the Welcome Screen.  I have had this issue with Windows 7 in both 64 and 32 bit.  Please advise.

Edit>Preferences>general tab   Check the box that reads "Show Welcome Screen".

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Mac - Welcome Screen Is Blank Under Network Account

This is a new installation of Dreamweaver CS4 on a computer running Mac OS X 10.5.7 in a computer lab environment.  All updates have been applied.  Users' home folders are hosted via AFP on a server running Mac OS X Server 10.5.7.  The "welcome screen" window that appears after launching Dreamweaver CS4 is blank for users using network accounts (both admin and non-admin).  The welcome screen appears correctly when launched from within a local accounts (admin or non-admin).  The welcome screen window can be closed and then the application appears to run just fine.  Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution?

Some clues: Apparently, the "welcome screen" is an .swf file located in each user's home directory here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration/Content/Welcome/Flash/welcome.swf
I can open this file in Flash or Flash Player under a network account and it looks just fine, yet it won't load when Dreamweaver CS4 is launched, resulting in a blank, white "welcome screen."
For now, I've decided to push a default preferences file to new users that turns off the welcome screen, but I'd prefer to find a fix. Anyone have any clues?

Either you enabled the guest user, or you enabled Find My Mac, which requires there to be an active guest account for a thief to log into, so that they'll connect to the internet and allow you to locate it.

  • Welcome screen image icons

Is there a way in windows 7 professional to make the user image icons on the welcome screen larger?  I noticed on windows  7 home they seem to be larger but on professional they are smaller.

    Hi
Yes, you can do this. This procedure is actually a font size change for the logon screen, but it also changes the size of the logon profile icons.
    1. Click the Start button and type regedit in the Search box. In the Results, Right
Click regedit and select the Run as Administrator option.
    Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\Fonts
    2. Backup the value you will be changing.
    Right click the Fonts key
in the left pane, select Export. In the Save As dialog, select
the Desktop as the save in location. In the File Name box type  LogonBackup.
    Click the Save button.
If anything goes wrong, you can go to the Desktop, right click the LogonBackup.reg file and select Merge to restore the registry value.
    3. In the right side pane, Double Click the LogPixels value.
In the Edit dialog box, change the
2 digit value using the following guide.
60 -(100% Font Size) -Default size
    78 -(125% Font Size)
    90 -(150% Font Size)
    4. Exit the Registry editor and
restart the computer to test the results.
    Let us know the results.

  • Duplicate Users on logon welcome screen

    Hi
I made a migration from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro
After the Migration, on the 1st start, my two local users accounts are with two logon icons each on welcome screen. Both icons, if used go to the same account. When I activate the guest and Administrator accounts both have twice icons too.
When I associate my account with my Windows Live account, my account was showed correctly with one icon on Welcome screen.
This problem can be solved in other accounts without having to associate the logon to a Windows Live account?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

I have the same problem. I do not have reco apps on my computer. Specifically how does one remove the offending software?  I had Windows 7 and upgraded over internet to Win8 as a MS tech helped me to install over my W7 Home Edition.  After two
days of MS Automatic Upgrades I logged on and these duplicates were there.
I want to remove them as an administrator, how is that done? (Ex: not be deleting reco software as I do not have reco software either facial or finger.  ?? This is a  MS Support issue and when I call I get India who ask for $40 a call to fix.
I cannot do a refresh as I cannot reinstall all of my other software... far too many..

  • How to copy the International settings from current user to default user/welcome screen on Windows 8.1/ Server 2012R2 via PS script?

    Hi,
I have to script the international settings in virtual machines which are Win Server 2012R2 or Win 8/8.1.
For the current user, it's quite easy.
    new-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    set-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    Set-WinSystemLocale nl-BE
    set-Culture nl-BE
But how can I copy these settings to the Default user/Welcome screen? I cannot find a solution for that. Even on the site of Microsoft,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852115.aspx all CMDlets are only for the current user.
Maybe I'm looking with the wrong keywords, but... With Powershell v4 it should be possible, isn't it?
Thanks for looking together and hopefully we can find an answer.
    Kind reg,
    Dirk

Questions like this would best be answered in the deployment forum.
The default lock screen tracks the current user.  The system lock screen tracks the local system admin account.
There is a SYSTEM profile which, I believe, can be set via registry.

I am quite sure the Fingerprint scanner software has caused this to your notebook.
Start the fingerprint software on your notebook and uncheck an option that says something like this:
"Replace Windows logon with fingerprint-protected logon"
I do not own a notebook with fingerprint software, so I am not quite sure of the name of this security tool. it might be something like "Protector Suite QL" which should also show as an icon in the systray. "Start Control Center", "Settings", "System Settings", "Enable Fast User Switching Support" should be the correct procedure to go.
Once you have done this, your notebook should start normally
