Lost video files

Hi,
Today I was trying to transfer a few video files in my capture scratch from one external drive to another. A few months ago, Drive #1 started making a weird clicking noise, so ever since I've been using Drive #2 (which is a back-up of #1). To my surprise, I could still access Drive #1, so I tried transferring a few video files from #1 to #2 - I already had them on #2, I was just overwriting them. While doing this, my mail program froze and I had to manually re-start the computer, causing the video files to not fully copy over from one drive to the other, meaning my FCP project is missing footage in it. My original drive - #1 - which still has those files on it will now not mount. I've tried plugging it in to different ports and using different power cables on it, but no luck. Is there any way to get it to mount or to recover those files, or am I going to have to re-capture them and then re-edit the scenes that contained them?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the source material had timecode with it, you'll not have to re edit... just recapture.
There are software programs made to read the files on the drive that won't mount as long as the drive's platters still spin up. Disk Warrior might rebuild the directory so it will mount, but if it can't for some reason, then Data Rescue II might work to copy the files from the errant drive to another. You can google these names to find the software. They run around $100 each or so.

  • Updated to 7.0 and lost video file purchased from iTunes

I updated my iTunes today and a video file I purchased from iTunes in February is gone. The file is still on my iPod because I have not sync'ed it yet. I know that once I do the file is lost for good. Is there a way of preserving it and putting it back into iTunes without repurchasing it?
    Thanks,

This happened to me, but I lost all my purchased music files when I downloaded itunes 7. I should of waited, so all the bugs could be worked out, cause I lost over $100 worth of songs, and have no idea how to get them back. Anybody?

  • How to recover lost video files after iOS 5 upgrade?

I upgraded iTunes today to iOS 5, and lost all my video files from my iPod touch.  When I checked iTune on my laptop, I could still see some of the video file listed under the device name and library.  However, I see nothing on my iPOD.  when I tried to sync them back to iPod, I got nothing either.  when I tried to reload some of the video files, I could see the number of video files (movies) added up.  However, I still cannot find any of the files from my iPod touch.  it's very frustrating just to go through with all the attempts.  please help.  thanks.

If their on your iTunes on your computer, try plugging in your iPod and dragging the files from the iTunes Library on your computer to the library on your iPod.  Hope it helps(:

  • Reconnecting Lost Video Files!

I am working on a research project using FCP 6.0.4 to segment a long video clip into about 600 individual sequences. Unfortunately, the drive that I was working off was recently erased, so when I open up the FCP file, the video file is offline and not present (although the original sequences and audio still remain). I understand that you can reconnect it if the file is available, but it is not. My question is as follows: If I re-do the log and capture process from the original source tapes, and in effect re-obtain the video files that I lost, can I just reconnect to these new video files?
Will these video files appear in the sequences I have edited?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    -P.

    Ok.
I am new to FCP, so would the procedure go something like this:
    -Connect mini DV camcorder.
    -Open FCP.
-Choose "batch capture" for the respective tape I am using.
    -Execute?
In doing that, will FCP essentially "fill in the gaps" to what I had lost?
I am extremely grateful of your help, thank you.
    -P.

  • Lost video file from a flash drive using iMac

I played a video file that was saved on a flash drive on my iMac. After the video played, it was automatically deleted from the flash drive. I did not physically delete the file. When I closed the file, it simply vanished. Is there anyway to recover the file?

Thanks for your response. I didn't notice the file in the trash after this occurred. If it was there, it is long gone by now anyway since I've emptied the trash several times since the incident (unless someone has an answer for recovering files that have been deleted from trash?). If it happens again, I'll pay closer attention to what is in the trash and see if this works. Thanks again.

  • Restoring lost video files from iPod Classic

I was recently trying to move my Video Files (last three seasons of Cops all downloaded from Itunes) to a different location on my computer. To put a long story short they somehow disappeared and I’m not sure how. I have searched my hard drive and I didn’t even have them in my recycle bin.
Fortunatly I still have them on my iPod Classic (160 GB) and I’m trying to figure out how to recover them from it, but I’m not sure if I have it set up to sync video files automatically or if it even works that way and I’m afraid to plug it into my computer or it might sync and delete the files.
The first thing I tried was to plug it into a different computer (already authorized) so it would upload the files downloaded then I could use an external drive to transfer the files back to my regular computer. I was able to get the most recent season uploaded, but then I got an error message saying that it couldn’t upoload some of the protected files unless my computer was authorized (even though it was). I re-authorised my computer and it still didn’t work.
I read that you can press Ctrl-Shift and hold it down while you plug your iPod in that it will prevent auto-syncing. I tried this but as soon as my iPod said “synchronizing” I unplugged it.
Does anyone know how I could pull these files from my iPod to get them back on my computer?

To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
Then see: How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.

  • Is it possible to recover lost video files from a backup gone wrong?

Hi, my brother in-law was backing up his Macbook (OS X 10.7.5) videos to a seagate eternal hard drive and I managed to accidentally knock it and disconnect it during the process.  Some of the videos were still on the computer but some got deleted. is there any way to recover these files??
    Thanks

It sounds like the files are gone. In the future if something is important, have it backed up in more than one place.
If you don't have a clone backup it's time to start. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection.
Storing files "in the Cloud" is also helpful. I like DropBox, but there are other services like Microsoft's OneDrive, box.com etc that are helpful. I like DropBox because it allows you to upload files larger than 2GB.

  • How to recover lost video files after restoring from back up

I recently had to restore my ipad completely one day in order to update it and I was in a rush. So I took my iPad before I could restore it from a back up. So I set up the iPad as a "new" iPad and just started using it. I bought iMovie with my iTunes account on the "new" iPad and started filming from the iPad for a school project. So I edited the footage in iMovie and had a finished project. Then I went home that night and decided to just upload my most recent back up from my old iPad. In doing so I lost ALL my footage. iMovie still has everything in the correct place and says that my project is just missing some files. Is there ANYWAY I can get this footage back? Isn't it still on the iPad somewhere? Please someone help me out!

If their on your iTunes on your computer, try plugging in your iPod and dragging the files from the iTunes Library on your computer to the library on your iPod.  Hope it helps(:

  • Lost video file

I selected 3 TV shows to purchase and download, but only 1 show downloaded. According to the balance on my iTunes account all three downloaded. Can anyone suggest how I can redownload without repurchasing the shows?
      Windows XP

Click on store at the top of itunes and choose check for purchases. This will check for any content that did not finish downloading to your computer.
If that does not help, here is a link to the itunes store faq on download troubleshooting. Also, at the bottom there is an email support form for contacting itunes store customer service.

  • Recovering Video File when Quicktime 7.6.6 relaunches

    Hi
I was in the middle of a wonderful interview with a Human Rights Activist when Quicktime QUIT unexpectedly. I relaunched the program and continued the interview on another file. Only now I cannot find first file anywhere. Anyone know if it's possible to recover lost video files? Looked in trash, files are garbage, no movie exists. Help!
    Lolo

Update: The problem only happens with MacOS 10.5.6. Running the pre-installed MacOS 10.5.5 the 9400M and 9600M displays movies smoothly using QuickTime 7.6. Disabling hardware-accelerated playback by deleting the "AppleVAH264HW.component" in "/System/Library/Quicktime" also "solves" the problem.

You are in luck, Refer to this recent post by tt2, on recovering media using 3rd Party Software.
He has made a comprehensive list, browse through them and decide which  suits your requirements.

  • Tried to update to IOS6 and now my ipad is trying to restore -- getting error "activation server not available" help!  Have I lost all my video files?

I was trying to do a simple udate of the ios software.  I connected to ITunes and the Ipad screen popped up saying there was an update available.  I clicked on the update and it started updating and also there was a message saying it was backing up.  But then I got a message to click here to complete the update -- with a restore.  I did that and now my IPad is n ot woking at all -- I get the initial startup screen and a message that says "your ipad cannot be activated because the activation server is not available"  I've tried connecting to itunes and get the same message -- server not available.  The devices menu option is grayed out so I cant sync, backup,, restore nothing.... HELP! please!  I only wanted to do a simple update -- now I think I've lost all my pictures and video files -- is there a way to get them back??

Try restarting everything and then try to sync or reactivate. Quit iTunes, reboot your computer, reboot your iPad and then try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Link to Video files gets lost

I am using Premiere Elements 11 Editor (Mac App Store). Ich have my project in the video folder of MacOS X, because after the installation of PRE11 the software forced me to copy the project that I've started in PRE9 to that folder. In the project a list of Video files was already included. The video files are on an external hard drive, plugged with USB 2.0.
After coming back to my project several times later and restarting the software, all links to the video files gets lost and I had to relink them one by one, even when I select more than one and click on Edit/Search Media. With more than 100 video files this is very annoying. Is there a way to bring PRE to the point that it remembers the links? I think this should be the minimum of a video editing software for that price.

    Welcome to the forum.
With the material on an external, you will need to set the Volume name (like a PC's drive letter, but with differences), to match what it was, when the material was Imported.
When media is Imported, the actual media files are NOT Copied over to the Project, but instead, absolute Paths to the media files are established in lnks to it. If anything changes in the absolute Path, then PrE will find the links broken, and they must be re-established.
On a PC, I could step you through the process of setting the drive letter in the OS, so that it is always the same (that is part of the absolute Path), but on a Mac, I am lost, being a PC-only guy. Others, who are on, and know Mac's, will be able to help you with the Volume name.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • 'Lost' or 'un-linked' video files in iPhoto 11

    Hi Everyone,
In a nutshell, it seems that iPhoto can't find most of my video files, even though they are still there on the HDD. Additionally, it won't let me drag them onto / into the app.
Just updated to the latest iphoto 9.2.1 and the video files in my library (apart from some recent ones) won't play. If i click the thumbnail, the page goes to a ! in a triangle. If there is an image next to it on the thumnail page, that image will load. With the video file, if i go to File > Reveal in Finder > 'Modified File' /or/ 'Original File', they're both greyed out, which implies that iPhoto has 'lost' the file.
If i do the same with the image file, i can reveal the original in the finder, and see that the video file (ie .mov) is still there alongside the image file, and if i double click it, then it loads in quicktime and plays perfectly. If i try to drag that file into iphoto, i get the error
    Unreadable Files: 1
The following file could not be imported. The file is in the iPhoto Library.
(It then gives me the true path and file name).
I have started up iPhoto with Cmd (or whatever it is) and ticked all of the boxes to rebuild the folders etc, but it doesn't work, and the fault remains.
At least i have the files (have heard some horror stories about iPhoto 11) but can anyone tell me how to get it all back working?
    Cheers, and thanks in advance

Thank you Terence for taking the time to reply - and thank you v v v much for giving me the answer!
Using iphoto library manager to rebuild the library meant that i could then add the images that weren't showing up, to get a full library back again.
Incase anyone else is coming after me:
i rebuilt the library with iPLM
went to the old iPhoto library and showed the contents of the package (right click on the iPhoto file)
Dragged over whole folders full of images / videos from the 'Masters' folder
    Told it to ignore duplicates.
Also i found this, though it's dependent on you not having opened the library with iPhoto 11:
    http://iphoto11.wordpress.com/2010/10/26/iphoto-11-fix/
    though it may help someone.
    Cheers

  • After upgrading to10.6.8 all video files in imovie lost sound

After upgrading operating system to10.6.8 all video files that were previously imported into imovie from iphoto and apperture lost sound

Further info: In now trying to import new video from camera, the camera signal/images appear in iMovie during import, and thumbnails/clips are created, but no sound or image from these when they are selected and played back.
iDVD works as normal, playing DVD's, and all other apps appear to work as normal.
