Lost video ipod

my friend told me there was a way to find stolen or lost i pods...
what do u do. cause i lost my video ipod and.. apparently i seriously need to find it.

all the owner has to do is be more respomsible and cautious of where they leave their ipod. how about not leaving it anywhere!. Its not applees responsibility to enforce a single thing. Just like BMW shouldnt be responsible in encorcing me as an owner to completely secure my car from a possibility of being stolen. Its the ownners liability to take care of their stuff if not well they suffer with a lost ipod.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • Itunes 7 has messed up my video  ipod 30GB

I am getting the error "itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted"
    I have tried everything:
Reset, restore to factory settings, upgrade ipod to 1.2.1,
now it's going to a loop of Do not disconnect,
but the ipod still gets unrecognised and of course I lost all my data:(
    Any ideas?
I wonder if this itunes version has been fully qad with video ipods?
I have seen more postings with this problem but no solution.
    Thanks

Thanks everyone. I have decided to uninstall iTunes 7 and put 6 back on. My iPod was immediately found and my music is uploading as I write this. Luckily I did not have to reimport everything to iTunes.
Guess I will wait for the next release. I have not been able to find anything on the Apple site about this error even though it appears many are having it.
If anyone is looking there is still a version 6 download out there.

  • Dead Video Ipod

    Help..
My video ipod is only a month old.. and it just died.. its not on hold ,the battery was fine.. it wasn't dropped. I tried recharging with the wall unit and USB port.. the chargers work fine since I tried them both with my nano and mini.. this thing is just dead.. any ideas on this... ?? It was sitting on my desk at home.. working fine.. then nothing...no resetting nothing.. dead dead dead

I had experience. I thought I lost my iPod.. I looked everywhere. and gave up for about a month. Then I found it, it was inside a hidden compartment in my bag.
but. it wouldn't start. it was dead. I started for the heck of it recharge it. it didn't seem to respond, then... faintly the apple logo appeared ... and apple logo became more clear....then I pressed the play button... for long time.. volla.. it came back to life...

  • Apple store videos won't import into Video iPod

I spent about 19 hours over the last few days talking with mac support phone people, my own Mac repair guy, and the "geniuses" at the local Apple store, and no-one seems to know why I can't get the tv episode I downloaded from the Apple store website to go onto my new video iPod. The Apple store "genius" I first talked to noticed I had an iPod programmed to work in Windows, even though I have a G4, running 10.4.3, with the newest versions of iPhoto, Quicktime, and iTunes, and told the guy that info when I ordered the thing in October. The "genius" did a system restore, and loaded a couple of music videos, which I could view.
When I synced it up to my computer, I got the dialog box asking if I wanted to associate the iPod with my computer instead of the one at the store. I did, and I lost the ability to import videos. When I clicked on the iPod icon at the bottom of the iTunes page to see preferences, both video and photo buttons were missing. Calls up to the 2nd level of iTunes support and Desktop support failed to restore it, even after I did an archive install of Tiger. I finally installed Tiger on another internal drive (it had Panther), updated everything, and when I boot from that drive, I see the video and photo buttons in the iPod preferences. After making my other drive point to my iTunes library on the first hard-drive, I re-downloaded all of my music files to the iPod, but it still won't import the tv show (it also no longer allows me to import my podcasts). Apple support personnel recommended I exchange the iPod for another one, but the folks at the local Apple store wouldn't let me, even though I have a case number (#56524834, in case any Apple monitors want to help out). I've lost so much time and have become so frustrated (I could have watched the show on my Mac 19 times by now; it does play on the computer, so I know the file works) that I'm thinking of dumping my Apple stock. After all, if the customer service is this lousy for a guy who's always used Macs, I think the company is going to lose ground to other companies. Any ideas on how I can get the videos into my iPod (and regain the ability to import podcasts)? thanks, in advance!

But it was the actual MP4 file downloaded from Apple's own website, so I doubt that it was encoded incorrectly. I think it's faulty software, and I'm waiting for Apple to release a patch to fix it. But I don't expect they'll admit it. On the other hand, I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with the fact that my iPod was originally encoded to work on PCs.
I'm not an expert but my understanding is that the files are supposed to be independent of the HD here. If you were able to load any files to the iPod before this problem, then I don't see why HD format should be a problem in this one particular case.
As to the file being from Apple's own web site, I don't consider that a guarantee that mistakes won't be made. However, as a commercial ($$$) enterprise, I consider their product in a "professional" light and hold them to a higher standard than I would others. The file I previosuly mentioned was, strangely enough, a tutorial on podcasting. It is from a series dealing with Apple products (like Aperture) and techniques (like exporting an iPod compatible file from iMovie or batch procissing in QT using Automator) so I assumed the authors are either Apple Techs or Apple "Specialists." That is why I was surprised when one of the podcasts would not sync.
In any case, the conversion of media to iPod compatible format and podcasting is in what... a 60-75 day infancy. So I do expect there will be problems. Especially based on the mistakes I've made in performing any own conversions and initial podcasting test of a public domain (old 1936 Republic "Saturday" matinee movie) Ray "Crash" Corrigan serial. Software, techniques, and workflows simply aren't "perfected" at this point, so I tend to try and learn from the mistakes -- both my own and others.
On the other hand, however, it might be a god idea to post a list of "problem" podcast files to see if these problems are actually file related, download related, or unique to individual iPods. In any case, best of luck to you.

  • "White Screen" error after most recent update 60 gig video iPod

I just received the most recent iPod updater software. I installed the updater and ran same. After the update process my 60 gig video iPOD cannot be recognized by my MAC G5. It has a "White Screen" and WILL NOT turn off! When I attempt a reset it simply gives me a 2 or 3 tone beep (I've never heard the tone before). The screen goes dark and it reboots to a white screen. I've re-installed updater and iTunes. I've switched USB ports. I've shut down the computer as well as rebooted same. I've allowed the iPOD to fully discharge (which happened quickly since the screen will not blank). When the unit is plugged into the USB port it charges and the white screen reappears. The updater now refuses to see the iPod so I cannot reset to factory defaults. Any ideas?
The idiots at Apple instituted a 24/7 chat tech support line for iPod shuttle owners. The guys like me who paid the big bucks for their best product get stuck out in the cold! Apple's whole tech support schtick is barely one step ahead of Dell's! The charge premium prices for their product and I like Apple a lot, but their demand that you be either an Apple Care customer or .MAC user to get even rudimentary support *****!

Ok, for all the others out who experience this problem....I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple. You have to go to their SECOND level of support to get an answer. But there is a fix.
If you have a white screen and the unit beep 3 times after a reboot here's what you need to do to fix the problem. Warning all you data will be lost. It will have to be downloaded via iTunes again!
Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Hold the Select and Menu button down for about 7 seconds to until you get a beep. Then hold down the Select and PLAY button for 10 seconds. This will put the unit in hard disk mode. Wait awhile until the Apple screen goes away and if you get a progress bar wait until it is gone.
At this point it will take some finagling, but you basically hook the iPod back up to the computer and do a RESTORE. The iPod should be recognized by iPod updater. Your data MAY still be in place, but if you do not do a restore to factory defaults with the updater you will get the white-screen-three-beeps-problem again.
Once you reboot into the language screen you can reconnect the iPOD and download your data from iTunes.
I complained this info SHOULD be posted online. They guy was very nice and agreed but said that engineering was still collecting data. He thought it was a dumb idea not to post online or allow the first level support guys to fix the problem.
Hey Apple...if you read this how about collecting data on your goddamned time and at your expense. You're the SOBs that collected $399 for the product! Ever seen the Comcast or AOL video on YOUTUBE? You guys could be next!

  • During SYNC Video ipod EJECTS (Removes) on its own

After a couple of minutes of syncing with iPod sitting untouched on desk the iPod is automatically ejected with a warning that the device was improperly removed and that data was probably lost since the device was impropperly ejected. No one touched either the iPod or the USB cord- it just happens. The iPod is then kicked out of iTunes still displaying the DO NOT DISCONNECT warning on its screen.
We've tried restoring the iPod, etc. Just before the 'automatic' removal we do HEAR the harddrive -spinning?

  • Video ipod sync problem

I have just gotten a new video ipod and my windows xp will not recognize it. i have two other ipods on my computer on different accounts and they will sync with the computer but the new one will not. the video ipod will charge but nothing else. HELP!!!!!

Yes all my other USB equipment works on the motherboards USB Ports. Laser Printer, Mouse, Razr Sync Cable, and a couple others too.
I was lost... When I figured out that it was the PC not my iPod I was beyond PO'd at myself for not seeing it earlier.
Here's a tip that card runs for 30 dollars, at staples Take 3 old ink carts with you, and you can knock 9 dollars off the price! It's a real screaming deal when you do that! If you see a Hp or Lexmark printer in the garbage nab the carts! Just watch your hands and clothes.
Glad to help someone else, and those two boards are REALLY Similar, they have the same disease crappy Intel Chipset syndrome. Last intel machine for me, when I upgrade I'll most likely go for a AMD, or maybe a new PowerMac If that's in the budget. At least the mac will hold its value for more than 10 minutes.

  • VIDEO IPOD BATTERY HELP OR DID I GET MESSED OVER AGAIN

    Hello boys and girls
my original ipod that i had for several years was stolen....after some debate and penny pinching i decided to buy an IPOD 30gig video ...great i thought..now i can have my music and meditations when i work out again
there is a radio shack nearby so i got it there...i also ..very cleaverly i thought... checked to make sure all the other stuff i had spent good money on ...docking station...fm transmitter for car...Altec speakers [great sound by the way] other stuff would work with it and the new video ipod fit perfectly into the docking station
JOY TO THE WORLD...Mother Apple had been kind to me and i was going to have music again and had told that this IPOD was much easier to use then the one i had for 4 years that got swiped..
THE JOY ENDED WHEN I GOT HOME...
First of all I discovered that the FIREWIRE card i had bought for the first IPOD was no more good...now i have to have USB 2 which of course i didn't have
since i work at night and go to school trapsing across town to get a USB 2 card and the appox $30 for it taxed me a little and reduced the sleep i got...however i was antcipating being able to use my ipod that night when i worked out
    WELL....that's when the nightmare started...
To be scientific and logical about this let me list what happened and is happening...
    1. Initially when i hooked the IPOD to a USB 1 port the coputer recognized it for about 5 sec then lost the connection. Pretty sure that was because the batteries weren't real charged
    2. i put the ipod back in the old docking station and plugged it into the old now useless FIREWIRE card...Ipod is happy it says it is charging...it charged all night an d still said it was charging
must be a very hungry iopd!! well i have lots of electricity to feed it
    3. i hooked it up to the ac adapter..still charging but FINALLY got full
    4. except now when i disconnect it from the ac adapter it goes dead...will not wake up when i connect it to the new USB 2 card Mother Apple said i needed and i staid awake to get
    5. SO NOW...am i stuck waiting FOREVER while it maybe gets repaired..unless i've just done some dumb things and can get it up and running without sending it in...
    6. will radio shack just give me another one that works...i only bought it two days ago
    7. that has been a pain you know where fromt he beginning
    8. guess i have to call Apple ..probably monday..sure they're not open today...and guess what ..it will be when i normally would be asleep 'cause i work at night
will try to post this more concisely in next msg if you read this God Bless you

I'm sorry about your troubles with your ipod , and i would imagine that radioshack would take it back , if not then send it back to apple since that kind of problem is not abuse or anything and it should be covered in the warranty.

  • Video iPod Display Corrupted

My video iPod is suddenly now displaying thin lines on the left 1/3 of the screen, a black splotch on the lower right hand corner of the screen, and cracked "lines" emanating from the splotch. The screen itself is not cracked. I cannot see any menus. The iPod plays, but I can't read any menus. This just happened in the last 30 minutes (it has not been dropped, etc.).
I have restored the unit to factory settings using the most recent iPod updater. I also have the latest version of iTunes (it restored all of my lost music files).
    Can anyone help?

Well, your iPod is pretty much ruined beyond anything you can do with the 5 Rs, so send it in. Your display is severely damaged if it is showing black splotches and all that.
Request iPod service, they wil send you a box:

  • Can't put iTunes Store items on Video iPod

Hi everyone... hopefully someone can help me out!
I have a brand new Video iPod, a flat panel Mac G4 using Tiger 10.4.4, and iTunes 6.0.2.
Every song and audiobook that I have purchased from the iTunes store will NOT go on my iPod. It keeps telling me that "some of the songs in the iTunes music library were not copied to the iPOD because your iPod software is too old." Ok, I know that's not the case because it's brand new, but I updated everything anyway.
What I finally noticed is that the songs are locked. When I see them in my music folder on my hard drive, they have a little lock icon in the upper left corner of the music icon which, coincidentally, is in a M4P format. All the songs I have purchased, and the 3 audiobooks as well, are all like that- locked and M4P format (or MP4).
Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, do you know how I can get this stuff on my iPod? Every question sent to Apple has been met with the same "solution" of either update it, restore it, restart it, etc. I've done all that. It appears to be something to do with the fact that these things are locked. Can I unlock them somehow??

Yes and no... I am TRYING to use the latest update of the software, which is "iPod updater 2006-01-10." It says I am updated, so I tried to put my "purchased" music on my iPod and it still gives me the message that I am unable to add those songs because my iPod software is too old. So I went to restore it instead, and the updater software says I need to connect using the firewire. But when I use the firewire it doesn't recognize the iPod!
I took the songs giving me trouble and put them on a CD. I imported the CD onto my laptop. From there I was able to restore the iPod, finally, and I was able to put those elusive "purchased" songs on the iPod, but when I connected it back to my main computer, I was back to square one. I needed to reconnect the iPod to my main computer because after the restore on the laptop I lost all my original songs, so I had to get the songs from the main computer. By doing that, I lost the "purchased" songs because iTunes wouldn't let me keep them AND add the my old songs back on because they are from different libraries! ARGH!
Apparently I just need to take it in to be fixed because I've serioulsy tried everything. If there was a way to transfer the iTunes library from the main computer to the laptop, everything would probably work. Is that possible?

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.
video   Windows XP   Sony Media Station Both computers

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.
