Lost Windows partition on upgrade to Snow Leopard

We did an upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  After the upgrade was complete we no longer had a Windows partition in Boot Camp.  I can still see the Windows disk in Finder and can navigate through out the disk and see all the files.  Is there a way to "import" the Windows drive in to Boot Camp (for lack of more technical explaination)?

WinClone 3 $20
When you move to a new OS: clone your system, make sure you have backups you can use - for each - the partition table "rules" change with each new OS. And you want to reformat a drive from time to time especially then.
Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4 is a good way to clone your OS X partitions.
Basically, "start over" and restore to one HFS volume with OS X then run Boot Camp Assistant, then restore with Winclone image you made easier.

  • Can I  install Windows 7 without upgrading to Snow Leopard?

I have Windows 7 and I just bought the Snow Leopard upgrade disk. I want to install Windows 7 on its own hardrive (no partition) but without having to upgrade to Snow Leopard first. I am happy with Leopard and feel if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I am wondering if I can just use Leopard to install Windows 7 onto the new drive, then boot into Windows 7 and use the Snow Leopard disk to install Bootcamp 3.0 and all the other drivers.
Does Snow Leopard have to be on the Mac in order to get the right EFI/Bios to run Windows 7 in XP mode, or does Boot Camp take care of that?
    Thanks

AppleHFS is 'buggy' and HFS filenames can cause Explorer to hang (green bar) if it runs across any special character is doesn't like.
And yes, there is no requirement to be running SL. BC 3.0 also came out before Windows 7 (trying to jump the gun? pre-mature? wanted to get SL out the door before Windows). Newer SL DVDs usually also have later version of "3.0" Shame that 3.0 has to be installed and then updated instead of just a logical download/install of 3.2 (maybe put in any OS X DVD to verify you have it?).
Apple won't, they want sales of SL and pre-install. Any other source, and people have hosted it, not worth the risk, and violates terms of use posting it online.
Instead of using AppleHFS, which you rename to disable, there is HFS driver from Paragon as well as MacDrive8 (which has its own issue with 7). AppleHFS interferes and prevents using Windows Backup is also a concern.
I'm not sure I totally trust NTFS-3G to write to Windows 7, or allow cross platform read/write.
More and more, the tech specs and hardware or software requirements (requires 10.6 DVD is only for BC drivers), or ATI 5770 'only' works with 2009/2010, but doesn't and didn't say 10.6.5 or later), otherwise works with any Mac Pro (would be hard to prevent).

  • Calendars and event data lost in mountain lion upgrade from snow leopard on mac book pro

I just upgraded to mountain lion today. It appears my contacts and emails were transferred without loss to the new system but all of my calendar data and the calendars themselves have disappeared. Does anyone know how I can get my old calendars and event data back? I backed up my laptop on time machine before doing the upgrade, so my old calendars should be on my external hard drive. I'd like to simple recover the data from the laptop if it is just hidden somewhere. Alternatively, if someone could tell me how to import the backed up calendars back in that might be a good plan B. I also still have the old calendars on my iphone which I am afraid to sync for fear of data loss.
I looked through previous responses in the community to this same question and I tried deleting the account and adding it back in but that did not work. Any assistance would be appreciated. Apple support is giving me an cold shoulder that is rather unexpected given my past good experience with Apple support. Bummin out over here

Which way do you reinstall OSX?
I would go through the recovery partition, check Disk there and then run the installer. make sure you have a reliable connection the the Internet.
This could be a third party app you have running in the background that is crashing. what exactly is crashing ?
    are you getting kernel Panics?
You are not able to simply roll back to Snow Leopard, you will have to have a SL disk, and then erase and install SL onto you hdd/ssd. This will erase ALL of your data so I hope you have a Time Machine backup or bootable clone.
I believe your issue is with a third party application installed.
    More information is needed.

On a personal note, I think you are missing out on ML and need to figure out if there is an application running that is causing ML to crash.
Usually a reinstall fixes my issues.

  • When the time comes to upgrade to Snow Leopard...

... will I have to reinstall my Windows partition? Will the Snow Leopard upgrade preserve it or delete it?
Anyone know? Just trying to get prepared.
    Thanks!

    Hi Johnny,
whether or not we have to wait and see until SL is released. The Apple SL website does not have that information.
When going from 10.4 Tiger to 10.5 Leopard my BootCamp Windows partition was untouched.
Nonetheless it might be a good time and idea to backup your Windows using WinClone http://twocanoes.com/winclone/ before updating to SL.

  • Upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion erase my Windows partition?

    Dear all,
I know some one might have asked it but I just wanna re-confirm.
Would the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion erase my Windows partition? I am currently using Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro (Late 2010 Version) and I do not have parallel desktop. I asked the same question when Lion was released, but HK Apple Store said YES and Melbourne Apple Store said no. I am a bit confused now.
    Thank you for answering. Cheers!

    Nothing.
That said, you should ALWAYS have a backup as anything can happen at anytime.

  • Will upgrading to Snow Leopard affect my Windows 7 boot camp partition?

    Hi,
Did some preliminary searching on this before posting but couldn't find with confidence my answer. Does anybody know? Details below.
Q: Will upgrading to Snow Leopard affect my Windows 7 boot camp partition?
I'm running 10.5.8 on a single drive with two partitions. 1st partition for OS-x is extended (journaled), 2nd partiction (ntfs) has solid version of Windows 7 RC, build 7100 running.
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
here are some nice 'Myths and Facts' about Intel Macs and BootCamp http://refit.sourceforge.net/myths/
Bottom line: while not exactly needed for installing Windows on an Intel-based Mac, the BootCamp Assistant 'streamlines' the process with a nice GUI (no need for 'cryptic' Terminal commands).
Mac OSX as of now (10.5 Leopard and above) plus the uptodate firmware for Intel-Macs already include everything needed to install and boot Windows.
Deleting or reformating an OSX partition does not affect the Windows partition.
However a repartitioning of course does, if the Windows partition is on the same harddisk.
But even a repartitioning of any other harddisk (ones that not have the Windows partition on them) does not affect the Windows partition.
Did that myself when adding/upgrading the harddisks in my Mac Pro.
Nonetheless, when 'fumbling' with harddisks and partition structure I always have backups of my important files at hand.
    Take care
    Stefan

Please could somebody help me I have an iMac which came with Tiger 10.4.10 installed I have lost my disks and I need to re-install after a hard drive failure. Where can I find this? I will upgrade to Snow Leopard after but I cannot go straight to SL

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:

  • Hi there, I've upgraded my Snow Leopard iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and would like to install windows 8.1, but bootcamp keeps telling me my mac only supports windows 7. Is there a way I can change that, please?

Hi there, I've upgraded my Snow Leopard iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and I would like to install Windows 8.1 using bootcamp. However, there's a pop-up saying that my Mac is only supporting Windows 7. Is there a way to change that, please? Thanks

Please find your Mac Model Identifier from About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Hardware and compare it to the following list. If your model identifier appears in this list, you can only install Windows 7.

Awesome. I had a feeling it could still be there. I'm very happy for you!
Two things you can do now:
1.) Add all of these files into iTunes by using "Add to Library" and selecting the iTunes Media folder. This is the easiest method, but you lose your original iTunes settings, playlists, play counts, ratings, etc.
2.) A slightly more advanced method however will let you salvage your iTunes library and restore it the way it was before. Use finder to look at Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries. In that folder, check to see if there is one dated near today's date (or when the reset happened to you). If there is a very recent one, you can restore to that date. What you'll want to do is take that file, and MOVE it back up one level to the iTunes folder.
Currently in your iTunes folder is a file named iTunes Library (this is the active, and blank one) and now you should have the dated one as well. You can DELETE the iTunes Library one, and rename the dated one "iTunes Library".
Then hold OPTION while loading iTunes, and when asked to choose a library, select Choose Library, and navigate to Music/iTunes, and pick the "iTunes Library" file you just moved and renamed.
If all goes well, your songs, playlists, ratings, and etc. should all be back to the way it was. Just do "Add to Library" and select the iTunes Media folder to make sure nothing was excluded between the backup and your copy before it reset.
    Hope this helps!

  • I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and have lost my epson printer software. On Epson Aus. web page there is no upgrade of their software for my printer with Snow Leopard. Can i download a lesser operating system software for printer?

I have just upgraded to snow leopard and lost my epson printer software. I have checked Epson Aus web site for printer software but they haven't upgraded it for snow leopard. Am i able to download software for a lesser operating system then snow leopard or do i have to purchase a new printer? The model is stylus photo R310.

Have you tried the R300 or R320 software? Typically the software covers a broad spectrum of printers, often providinbg overlap to cover "relatives" of a series.

  • HT6065 I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks OS X, and lost all of my "on my mac" mail boxes.  How do I restore them?

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks OS X, and lost all of my "on my mac" mail boxes.  How do I restore them?

The answer was more complicated.  I had to have an Apple Care tech help me onscreen.  Had to go to Time Machine to restore (which I had tried, but couldn't find the right files to import.  The Mail icon was barred).  They helped me find them.  It was very complicated, with many steps involved.  I never could have figured it out on my own.  Even the tech was not sure how, or if it would work. And it took about 1/2 hour for the stuff to download. But, the problem was solved eventually
.  Thanks again for your help!

  • Just upgraded to snow leopard, downloader apple support drivers for canon mp620.  Why won't a printer list display in add printer window?

Just upgraded to snow leopard, downloader apple support drivers for canon mp620.  Why won't a printer list display in add printer window?

Assuming the MP620 is connected to your wireless network, then there are two components to this device - the printer and the scanner. The printer uses Canon proprietary software while the scanner is supported by Apple's Bonjour service. So in many cases, you will at least see the scanner, shown as Bonjour Scanner in the Kind column, while the printer can take longer to appear and is shown as canonijnetwork in the Kind column. If you cannot see either then you have a network issue. Try turning off the MP620 for a minute and then turning back on. Then see if the scanner / printer component appears in the Add Printer window. If you still don't see either, then confirm the MP and the Mac are using the same network. If you know the MP's IP address you can use Network Utility to Ping the address. You can also enable Bonjour Bookmarks in Safari preferences and when selected, the MP620 should appear.

  • I somehow lost my iMovie app when I upgraded to Snow Leopard

I bought my MBP in late 2008. Leopard was installed on it, and it came with iMovie. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I can't seem to find iMovie.
So after spending $26 to upgrade to Snow Leopard, do I have to spend $75 to buy iLife to get iMovie?

use the Installer Disks, your MBP came with, to re-install all apps.
